Dude, you do some sick work! I have a couple questions if you don't mind. I've been airbrushing RC bodies for myself for about 3 years now and my hobby has turned into a side business that's really taken off. I mainly use Spazstix and Pro-Line Candy paints for Candy jobs, and for everything else I use Faskolor,Pro-Line, and Wicked. I've been wanting to try Auto Air Candies, but have wondered if they'll adhere to lexan? I've got a Harbor Freight HVLP sprayer and a Detail sprayer that I use for liquid mask, but for my airbrushing I use my Iwata TRN2, Eclipse, Revolution, and Neo BCN. Does Auto Air have to be sprayed with an HVLP sprayer or will one of my airbrushes work? My TRN2 ,Revolution, and Neo BCN have .5 needles/nozzles and I have .3 in my Eclipse. Any tips or advice you could give me before I try and venture into Auto Air for Lexan?
candy2o works for painting polycarbonate / Lexan. New for 2021, Auto Air Colors has merged into Wicked Colors, each being made with the same acrylic resin. For more about Auto Air / Wicked Colors, please see the information at www.autoaircolors.com. Thank you.
Hi Chris, Thank-you for making this video. Did you buff/polish the clear coat to get that amazing glass finish? I am a beginner and would love to try this with your paint products. Best wishes, Michael.
It depends. For the best quality finish, buffing a 2k clear works well. However, with the right technique and allowing the base paint to dry thoroughly before top-coating with the clear, buffing may not be required. This particular panel was not buffed/ polished. Thank you.
Hi, this is really good. Can you tell me, is the colour transparent? And would it look just as good from a spray can? As I thinking of having a go Tnx 👍
candy2o is a dye, which is transparent compared to a pigment-based color, which is translucent. candy20 is applied with a spray-gun or airbrush, not a spray-can. For more, please goto www.candy2o.com. Thank you.
Hi Chris, that came out awesome!!! Curious I noticed you left it to dry overnight but i didnt see you sand before clear? is that correct? thank great job
Createx paints do not have to be (nor should they be) scuffed prior to clear. Apply the first coat of clear medium-wet direct to Createx paints after they've thoroughly dried. A tack / acclimation coat is not recommended. Thank you.
Ive always used spray paints or airbrush paints and 2k clear. But I watched a few different videos about the candy2o. Much nicer then what I've used I ordered the blue and green candy2o, along with 4030 clear and 4013 reducer. Was that the right stuff for this kind of affect.? Secondly do I have to clear it with anything before a 2k clear?
If top-coating candy2o with a 2k solvent-based clear, another clear type doesn't have to first be applied over candy2o. In regard to mixing candy2o, both 4030 and 4050 can be used; 4050 being a newer carrier option that we prefer over the 4030. for more please see our Mixing candy2o video, ua-cam.com/video/nmj_pq8sm0o/v-deo.html, and refer to the candy2o tech data sheet available at www.creatextech.com. Thank you.
iam doinga guitar for a friend its a freebeee so cant spemd a bunch . i porimed the body with u-pol cat white primer and gonna paint the body black coukld i use white with grey with say a candy black over the top to make a more sutle look i have to put graphics on it still camo and a skull on the back .
Make a test panel or two to see what the resulting finish is going to be of your proposed color scheme. The colors and technique show in this video works. If the guitar's owner is a friend, ask them to by the needed paint materials. That you're doing a paintjob free-of-charge is a big gesture, they should reciprocate and but the right paints so the result looks great and is long lasting. Thank you.
The marbling technique is done over AutoBorne Sealer Black, which can be applied direct to metal and wood, although with metal an etch DTM may be applied first. Thank you.
I'm a garden seed supplier, I can just imagine a truck panel done using this effect, with the lettering done in chrome over the top to really make it pop.
I'm thinking about attempting this effect on my project, saw in the murdered candy video you added black candy after the color. I was wondering if that would have the same effect on this?
A marbled graphic can be top-coated with candy20 Black for a “murdered marble” finish. Please make a test panel to see how it looks and how much candy20 Black to apply over the marveling. Thank you.
It seems every one knows but me or they would have asked. So help me understand that you painted on a panel that had some sort of vinyl sticker you cut then weeded after or what did you paint the black sealer on. I just bought a load of stuff to do this. But I’m missing that part
6013 Silver Sealer was first painted, then a border design was creating using masking tape, cutting away the positive design (what is kept silver), then 6002 Sealer Black was applied where the candy-marble graphic was to be applied. For more about masking & taping, please watch, ua-cam.com/video/7nhWdr4Ro-A/v-deo.html. Thank you.
So from what I've read through comments, you painted on the silver sealer, black sealer, then dabbed on the silver to produce the marbeled effect? Two questions. 1: Whats the purpose of adding the silver before the black when you add silver "texture" afterwards? 2: Is the black base coat completely cured before adding the silver texture with the saran wrap, still wet, or just barely dry to touch? I was playing around with some cardboard last night before I paint this guitar to work out the kinks and even though the paint felt dry, after laying down the light coat, it would stick and pull off parts of the lower layers
1) the silver technique is a graphic effect, 2) not cured, but dry enough to tape on, shave when sanded, etc. Great job making a test panel! on your next one, please allow more dry time in between coats and before steps. For more dry & cure time and other application info, please refer our Hard-Surface Application Guide at www.creatextech.com. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors oh brutha I'm using rattle cans on this project. Dupli-color high gloss chrome finish for my black topper, then their metalcast anodized coating A.K.A "the poor man's candy paint". 4659 candy2o Deep Purple over 6002 AutoBorne Sealer Black will be barely noticed. Adding pearl such as W405 Hi-Lite Interference Purple will help light show the candy2o Deep Purple. Adding some Wicked Pearl Purple will also work. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors Thanks Chris!! I have been thinking on something like what you messaged about. I am wondering if you could do a spray out of that so o can take a look at. I want to see how it looks.
How durable is your candies I live in Florida and all the vehicles here always end up fading so all youll see is gold or silver roof, hood and trunk lids and side panels have candy paint on them.
candy2o are dyes intended for exterior coatings, same as what is used in quality solvent-based candy colors. The resin is a durable acrylic-polyurethane, intended for exterior automotive & architectural-grade coatings. Since their introduction in the late 1990s, Createx paints have proven to be a long-lasting, durable paint for use in an automotive base-coat / 2k solvent-based clear coat. We're also proud to say Createx paints won best of paint and 2nd overall (an Elite 8 car) at the 2020 Detroit Autorama's Riddler Competition. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors I appreciate you answering my question. I've used and have your products for air brushing. Just never used the candies because I was scared of them fading. Thank you.
The drop-shadows along the tribal graphic are a 1:1:1 mixture of Wicked Detail Black, Violet and 4004 Transparent base.createxcolors.com/wicked-airbrush-colors/wicked-detail-colors/w051.html Wicked Black & Violet, Createx Transparent Black & Violet could also be used, as can substituting the 4004 Transp. Base with 5601 Transp Base and or adding 4030 Balancing Clear. Whats important is mixing a transparent black & violet, then extending that with a resin based clear to make a very transparent color, then thin a bit, 10% -20% per volume with 4011 Reducer. Thank you.
Did you sand that marble effect paint before you sprayed the candy coat, or did you just let it dry for the 2 hours and then spray the candy? I'm trying to find out when you spray candy over another coat, when/do you sand before candy coat, and when/do you sand the candy coat before a clear coat.
Do not sand candy2o prior to top-coating with a catalyzed (2k) urethane clear. Allow colors to thoroughly dry, then apply the clear with the first coat being medium-wet. Thank you.
Great work! But I gotta mention... I am really interested in the method/steps you took to do the white and drop shadow back ground prior. Any chance that was recorded as well? Or even just an explanation maybe? Again, this is great stuff! Thanks for sharing the process!
I have noticed that you (like me ) like to touch the project fairly often with bare hands , are you prepping the surface often with a degreaser? if so what are you using and how often. My clear coat guy has reprimanded me many times about it... he clears my stuff at his body shop with PPG products.
Good question. 1) This is a demo panel, and if for a real client any touching of would be with gloves on and 2) most of the touching was over masked-off edges; the tape was a few inches deep for the underlying , silver tribal-graphic. This paint was removed with the tape and the underlying silver top-coated with a 2k clear. Cleaning Createx paint prior to clear is surprisingly not as critical as with solvent-based paints, however its best not to contaminate the paint, so you're correct that gloves should be worn or paint not touched prior to applying the clear. Thank you.
The spray-gun is an Iwata W400 with a LV-WBX 1.3 tip. The WBX is a 3-way split tip and sprays Createx paints better compared to the 4-way split tips. Thank you.
Just straight aluminum, as its being manipulated quite a bit, which is easier with an acrylic paint compared to an acrylic- urethane mix created by adding 4050. Thank you.
Marbeling can be done without using a candy. As always, its best to make a test panel or two to experiment with technique and the finished outcome. Thank you,
Thanks! One more question, could I technically do this by just applying the paint directly to the saran wrap instead of transfering it from the painted plastic to the saran wrap?
Wow. That is awesome. Thanks for taking time to make the video. I notice you touch the dried paint with ungloved fingers. Does that ever cause issues for you?
Createx paints are not that susceptible to trace oil contamination. Also, when candy2o is mixed 4050 6:1 candy2o, or 8:1, the dried coating is fairly durable and cures to a hard coating which can be lightly touched without affecting the color. Thank you.
We manufacture water-based paint & coatings. We do not make 2k, solvent-based clears. Createx paints are universally compatible with any brand of 2k clear; a slower / higher temperature reducer is recommended for improved flow and leveling. Thank you.
I am thinking about using this technique for the base on my motorcycle tank, and then pinstriping over it... is the texture caused by the marbling a problem.. when you lay the plastic on the substrate, you can see in your video that it leaves a texture as well as a pattern.. is that going to cause problems with the clear?
This technique will require 2 clear sessions to bury the marble effect. Apply 3 - 4 coats of clear, scuff flat using @ 600 - 800 grit, then apply 2 or 3 more coats of clear. Make sure to keep re-coat times open so there is enough flashing of the solvent. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors I have another question, so i thought id pop back here and see if you could answer for me... If i am wanting silver pinstriping around the marbled area... would i use silver autobourne sealer, tape IT, paint over it with black (autobbourne sealer i guess?) .. do my marbling with aluminum and candy color(s), and then remove the tape for the pinstriping, or would i need to use the silver autobourne sealer, then a sliver metalic paint (not sealer) to tape before my black layer? (in other words, can the silver autobourne sealer serve as the paint layer for my pinstripping? )
Your inquiries are best addressed by a test panel. Quicksilver can be applied by brush, or better poured onto wax paper then dabbed on with scrunched-up plastic wrap. A test panel will show what candy2o Black looks like over various metallic bases. Test various mixing ratios, something between 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear 8:1 candy2o Black, up to 12:1. Thank you.
UVLS Clear is a durable clear for interior & exterior paintjobs, but its an architectural ("Sign") clear which does not have the mar resistance (not as durable) as a catalyzed (2k) solvent-based urethane or epoxy clear, to which a 2k urethane clear is the recommended top-coat when using Createx paints for automotive. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors OK so this is not part of your product line? I am guessing it gives a glossier finish than your 5620. Is 5620 the most glossy finish in the createx line up?
You could try a marble technique then apply candy20 Black over it for a “murdered” finish. Definitely make a test panel or two to test this, perhaps seeing how saturated the marbled candy color needs to be. Thank you.
Yes, we prefer 4050 as the candy2o carrier for any application including polycarbonate, plastics, hard-surface - anything but canvass. However, 4030 still works well and certainly can be used for application to polycarbonate. Thank you.
That is the best marbled effect I've seen. Its absolutely beautiful.

Thank you.
That turned out really nice! What colour did you use for the drop shadows on the outer sections? Looked almost like Candy2o Black.
Thank you.
@@CreatexColors Thank you.
Great work! But I gotta mention... I am really interested in the method/steps you took to do the white and drop shadow back ground prior. Any chance that was recorded as well? Or even just an explanation maybe? Again, this is great stuff! Thanks for sharing the process!
Our Tribal Graphics video covers the graphic technique featured in this video, ua-cam.com/video/zHMcmdTdOG4/v-deo.html. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors hey thanks for the help!!! 😁👍
Thank you.
Amazing 👏
thank you
Super fantastic amazing.Talent
thank you for watching!
Yeah buddy!
Is more easy paint silver and add Black on top and use any plastic take Black out ?
Best way to determine this is to make a test panel comparing the techniques. Thank you.
what is the model of your paint gun? amazing work. Thanks for sharing.
The spray-gun is an Iwata W400 with a LV-WBX 1.3 tip. The WBX is a 3-way split tip and sprays Createx paints better compared to the 4-way split tips. Thank you.
Would you guys recommend using the 4050 to mix with the aluminum for this technique? Or did you just use the straight aluminum color?
Just straight aluminum, as its being manipulated quite a bit, which is easier with an acrylic paint compared to an acrylic- urethane mix created by adding 4050. Thank you.
Can this effect be done with a non candy transparent top coat over the marble metalic? something like a thin coat of wicked detail paint?
Thank you.
Thanks for answering!
awesome, do you sell the 2k clear as well?
We manufacture water-based paint & coatings. We do not make 2k, solvent-based clears. Createx paints are universally compatible with any brand of 2k clear; a slower / higher temperature reducer is recommended for improved flow and leveling. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors Are there clearcoats or paints you don't recommend to go over createx colors?
Круто,молодец дядька!👍🤘
Thank you.
@@CreatexColors Thank you for the response and information.
(in other words, can the silver autobourne sealer serve as the paint layer for my pinstripping? )
Would it be cool to brush out the quicksilver onto the palette? My gun don’t spray heavy.
Also if I wanna do candy black could I do a mettalic elegance or pearl white base?
Your inquiries are best addressed by a test panel. Quicksilver can be applied by brush, or better poured onto wax paper then dabbed on with scrunched-up plastic wrap. A test panel will show what candy2o Black looks like over various metallic bases. Test various mixing ratios, something between 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear 8:1 candy2o Black, up to 12:1. Thank you.
That would make a stunning mens ring
Cool! Thanks!
thanks for watching!
AWESOMENESS 💯👍
Thanks for watching!
how did you do the surrounding area..looks like white and secondly is the uvls clear just as good as 2k clear and safer
Thank you.
@@CreatexColors thank u soo much since motorcycle fairings take alot of abuse i will use the candy 2o with a 2k clear
which clear coat product did you use for the last coat? thx!
PPG EC550, ua-cam.com/video/JuroIpJOCNo/v-deo.html. Thank you.
@@CreatexColors OK so this is not part of your product line? I am guessing it gives a glossier finish than your 5620.
Is 5620 the most glossy finish in the createx line up?
EC550 is a PPG clear. Createx's glossiest clear is 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear, thanks. uvlsclears.com/
Superb..👌✌️
thanks for watching!
Awesome! Do you think this would also work in combination with your “murdered” technique or would that just destroy the effect by taking away depth?
You could try a marble technique then apply candy20 Black over it for a “murdered” finish. Definitely make a test panel or two to test this, perhaps seeing how saturated the marbled candy color needs to be. Thank you.
Dang that’s awesome
Thanks!
Is your black paint wet or dry when you lay the plastic wrap on it?
Dry. For best effect, ease of application, allow the black base to thoroughly air dry. Thanks.
USing 4050 with candies, even if you're spraying lexan / rc bodies?
Yes, we prefer 4050 as the candy2o carrier for any application including polycarbonate, plastics, hard-surface - anything but canvass. However, 4030 still works well and certainly can be used for application to polycarbonate. Thank you.
