@rebeccamd7903 my guess is because of the paint type, especially with the acid wash look, air brush paint doesn't dry like spray paint.

For a smoother finish on canvas you can get Gesso at the craft store and paint the canvas with it.. then when dry sand it smooth. Do it a few times to get a really smooth surface. Most painters/artists need a little texture from canvas as it gives bite or tooth for the paints to stick as brushed on.

I can't remember how I hooked up to your site .... this is the first video of yours that I watched ... but I guarantee it is not the last. I have been into paint, since I created a technique, back in the early 70's (at least I think I created it ... never seeing anyone else do it before) ... using burning plastic, on dash components for my custom van. I moved into air brushing t-shirts, painting car bodies, then painting with brushes on canvas, and now integrating brush and air brush on canvas ... while still painting on other materials ... have seen water droplet effects before but not how it was accomplished ... thanks, Very Cool.

Dude, that was amazing. Could you also have tilted the canvas after applying the water to get the larger droplets to run for a similar effect with droplets and runs?
I have searched and searched for a class where I can learn to airbrush. My problem is with the airbrush clogging up. If I thin the paint too much, the results are terrible, but if I don't thin the paint the brush clogs. I need instruction as to how to adjust the brush and paint for varying conditions. Any suggestions where I can get such instructions?

Fun video. Cool technique. I attempted this. My effort came out looking like the "acid washed" version.
I was going for the bolder shadowed droplet look.
I spray painted a 1/8 in thick rectangle of plywood gloss white and let it dry. Then sprayed water droplets on the panel. I sprayed gloss black at one angle and a green at a different angle.
(not sure how to convey this) My water drops were weak at the edges.
I'm assuming what I am missing is surface tension. What is the trick to make the water droplets more pronounced and stand up from the panel surface more?

    • @DuncanCustomAirbrush
      @DuncanCustomAirbrush  9 місяців тому +1

I like the salon sprayer I have because it can atomiz the water very well and I can vary up the drop sizes. You may just need to spray more water and some will combine to make nicer bigger drops. Also play around with the amount of paint your spray, try more and try less, but a very low sharp angle.

Have you ever done the water drop effect on clear lexan plastic (Thinking of painting a lexan plastic body for a remote control vehicle). I'm wondering if this could work when the whole process of painting is "reversed"... put the drops down, paint them, then put the "backer" color down. Then when you look through the lexan you could see the drops???

    • @DuncanCustomAirbrush

If it was to work, that would be the correct stepst, but may look a little different because you might not be able to get as much of an angle to hit the water drops, but it still should look cool.

Well, just when you think you've seen it all, along comes one those videos of a guy mixing good humor with unique art and a bit of science. I did airbrushing for several years in a tourist town, then got into fractal burning wood, now I'm thinking about epoxy and the like. And now you show me something new. Very cool. Might combine a few different things. See if I can come up with something original. Or is the saying "nothing new under the sun" a real thing? Guess it doesn't matter if it's original to you, right? Enjoyed your video and picked up a bit of inspiration from it. Well done.

Terry..you da man! Love your very creative ideas. Wish there was a way to show you the "Bigfoot plaster cast clock" I made. It's huge and yes I epoxied it. I have a few pics, but not sure how to send them to you....hmmmm....

Quick question why i seen this guy who spray paints lowriders but i was wondering why did he spray water on it too? Does it give the paint more color?

What kind of paper did you just use to cover your canvas. I'm in an art show and I'm doing some spray paint and need to cover the rest while painting

My question for you or anyone that may know.. How well would this work being done on the INSIDE of a lexan rc car body. They get painted inside so all the color layers are reversed.

Not a pro, but I use winded. Looking glass paint, spray in the container (large glass jars) then spray winded inside. Dry. Looking glass paint again, windex. Do it until you get the desired effect. Love your video!!!!

Dude that water effect turned out incredible!! DEFINITELY gonna keep that one in mind.
I wonder if it would work on wood with different stain tones?

I was told about the "rag" technique back in the 70's. Use a basic color for the background, then dip a rag in an opposing color. I tried white with black. Dip a rag in black paint and wring out most of the paint, like a paintbrush. Then just roll it down the wall from top to bottom. My bathroom looked like a zebra exploded in it, but still very cool.
