The cheapest clubs have a 10 bonus vs infantry, the elite ones 20. In Shield Wall, that becomes a nightmare since it stacks with +15. Both Horse-rekkers have a 30 bonus vs cavalry, again the Encyclopedia delivers. Godansmen are decent, but I agree that the Chosen are a complete waste.
I could see a build fitting maybe one chosen. The extra melee attack does make them go berserk much easier in my limited testing vs ai, and then being fresh they have a lot of killing power. Not worth the price, but fitting in one shouldn't be too awful. I'd prefer them to have the same attack and noticeably higher defensive stats, but ahh well. Leave it to CA to charge you 400 extra for a nearly identical unit.
@Shinobi They're called the "longbeards" because according to Germanic legend in the 1st century the neighbouring tribe the Vandals were trying to subjugate the Winnili but they wouldn't give up so easily and even the women chose to fight and tied their hair down their chin to look like long beards. Godan (also known as Odin) declared that he would shower victory upon the first tribe he laid eyes on at sunrise. The Winnili women appeared at sunrise and Godan said "who are these longbeards?" and the Winnili won the battle that day. After that they changed their name to the Langobards to commemorate their victory.
Well, after watching all three of these videos, I'm gonna be picking this DLC up. I think I'll have a great time with these factions in multiplayer and in the campaign. Thanks again for the very quick uploads of these, Heir. Definitely informative and helpful.
Correct. I don't find the DLC's bad or anything, they're actually pretty good but they are too expansive. They should be free content but Sega being the self righteous bitches that they are, wont allow that.
Thanks for posting - I was wavering about the Langobards as a faction but this has swung it for me. Once my Aleman campaign is over, I will select this faction next.
Hey heir, I was wondering what you think about CA's current business model regarding DLC. The game hasn't even been out a month and it already has 2 DLC, a day one DLC to boot. I think it seems like a money grab and given the release of their last title and its similar DLC pushing and pay to win factions, I feel pretty disappointed. I really like this series but I can't help but feel they have chosen profit over people.
i would mind too, but its good to see thesy make a big chunk of money. the upcoming total War: warhammer is a High risk game, most warhammer titels arent that much of a Cashbringer, so i rather see them get a moneyboost now if warhammer turns out to be a massive flop. rather than seing CA going down because of that. sure thats not their intentional thought, but even though they dont think that way and do it for this reason, its a good thing for now. after warhammer i gotta say: i dont want to see that happen again neither.
If you talking about Rome 2 when it comes to pay to win, it wasn't. The most powerful factions at all points of the games life span were included at launch or free DLC. This game is slightly pay to win i guess, as the new Germanic factions are pretty strong, but not the best.
I watched enough Boii sword spam to say it kinda was. Also the better generals from Caesar in Gaul. Was it game breaking? I wouldn't say so. Were there clear advantages in casual and competitive play for those paying $15 over those who got vanilla? Absolutely.
SirThomasPicklesXXIX If you could not counter the Boii with Rome then you are bad. "Also the better generals from Caesar in Gaul." For a brief period of time the suebi were too powerful with a specific general ability, but it was patched very fast.
I feel you on splitting your time between games and having them blur. I play an MMO a lot, and occasionally I'll see a unit in Total War start losing men and then wonder for a second why the healer isn't doing his job.
Tactical Urban Homo The fun part with the dlc is when you get your Ybor general with the Godan's healer trait with 30% replenishment. Stack that with ancillaries and army traits and you can basically resurrect over half your army after a battle. It's like playing with a necromancer!
Hey Heir I was curious if you could do a campaign series. I'm not shure what factions to try. Manet you could show a faction up until attila's birth. If not it's alright.
correct me if i'm wrong but shouldn't all the DLC hate be directed towards SEGA and not CA since SEGA is the Publisher? i think this has been the case for many other DLC heavy games where the publisher forces the developer to make DLC to increase profits
Because such a game would require intensely and insanely powerful computers, the games have different developers and publishers, and such a hybrid game is so awesome a concept that it can barely be grasped by human comprehension.
total war had to scale down the numbers, imagine trying to run raphia or cannae at full size, you would need a super computer though i think attila is a move in the right direction in the way of campaign complexity
LedZepp1109 Because Eu4 is a board game like Computer game, and it's only 600mb, sure it has lots of campaign features, but they can afford to do so code wise because there is so little sophistication and scale in regards to the engine.
Do factional traits that you receive in the campaign tie through to multiplayer battles? That 10+ bonus against other religions would really help online...?
the langobards are modern day italian and the alans are modern day portuguese,so if you are italian or portuguese and even french you are actualy a german ;-;
***** but some like the suebi tribe settled in today portugal so alot of those where actual german, and actualy the major part of germany is descendant from scandinavian tribes from nordic bronze age
João Victor Macedo Well, it is not really like you said... The Langobards (1) didn't manage to conquer all of Italy, (2) killed the majority of the "roman" noblemen but mixed with the rest of the pre-existing people. AFAIK Italy is much more complex than Portugal, as it boasts a wider variety of cultures (and languages aswell), which all derive from the frammentation that the peninsula suffered after its partial conquest by the Langobards (e.g. the south was mainly of greek culture until the collapse of the WRE while the North was the part which became the more "germanish"). And those "germanic people" come from modern day Sweden and Denmark (or nearby baltic states), so even if your theory was right modern day germans would not count ^^
Maximus tested Scaled Clubmen vs Gothic Warband, the clubmen won both on the charge and in shieldwall. I believe he said they have 20 bonus vs infantry.
Heir I had a battle in Rome II where I was the suebi going up against Rome and I had 4 berserkers. Rome destroyed my entire army besides 1 berserker unit that only had 4 men left and they wouldn't rout because they were berserking. The time ran out and they were the only units I had left so it ended in a draw. It was awesome.
Looks like a really impressive and formidable roster! I'll be interested to see how they shape out; but they seem to be as powerful as germanic brethren. The all powerful germanic cav and bows backed up by solid 'zerkers and heavily armored meatshields. I can say I'm excited! :)
Hey Heir even if you lose the battle, I think it would be very interesting (and wanted) if you used all the unique units of a faction, you pretty much went 6 Germanic Horsemen every time and didnt use too many of the unique units, please consider it
It's great to finally see some recognition of the ancient names and gods of my forefathers and foremothers in a popular media. Hail Gòdan! Hail Frea! Hail Teiws! PS: Gòdan's Chosens are too good not to be used....because you know they are the damn "Chosens of Odin", and to be the favoured soldiers of the Allfather already says something about them.
The best part of these guys is the new general. Goden's Warlord is the best barbarian general. He's like what most general units should be. A single elite unit.
So I bought this DLC expecting a beard. For years I've been the only Spaniard without amazing facial hair. This DLC has *NOT* delivered. I am still without a long beard, let alone an awesome one. *Shakes fist*
Germanic, not German. German is a country named after the peoples, the Germanic peoples are an ethnic group. English are Germanic, for example, yet not German.
Anyone sad over lack of duel swords or two hand swords. Loved the goths but those little two hand swords are so lame. Maybe DeI has spoiled me. Anyways I want to see you play ERE on Hard or higher. I am struggling with that.

The Langobards are also known as the Lombards. They settled at Northern Italy, in the Region named after them.
We're all history nerds here bud.

Shameful display CA Shameful Display
It's Sega that forces CA to make these DLC's. CA doesn't have a say in the matter so hate Sega but give the lads at CA a break.
Luke Snyders True that Sega are forcing DLCs down CA's throat but its up to CA to make them worth their money
Correct. I don't find the DLC's bad or anything, they're actually pretty good but they are too expansive. They should be free content but Sega being the self righteous bitches that they are, wont allow that.
Luke Snyders Amen
SEGA not CA

Pay to win? The most powerful faction in Rome 2 was Rome and it came as base. I get it, the DLC sucks, but don't be dishonest about it.
I watched enough Boii sword spam to say it kinda was. Also the better generals from Caesar in Gaul. Was it game breaking? I wouldn't say so. Were there clear advantages in casual and competitive play for those paying $15 over those who got vanilla? Absolutely.

Heir will you get to finish your Rome 2 faction focus? :3
Where's the voting going to be? Heir play as the franks! And do you plan on doing a faction focus?
correct me if i'm wrong but shouldn't all the DLC hate be directed towards SEGA and not CA since SEGA is the Publisher? i think this has been the case for many other DLC heavy games where the publisher forces the developer to make DLC to increase profits
Indeed!
What affects CA reflects badly SEGA, the only way too strike at Sega's heart is to penetrate the CArtilage.
Do you think they can be a counter to ERE with their unique Horse killing units?
finally some dlc with a unique feeling among the different factions, i must commend CA for the excellent work this time around
careful. the berserk ability also means they will also attack your own men. it says they'll attack any unit nearby regardless which side they're on.
Why can't EU4 have total war combat.
WHY
Because it would take up like 200GB of space?
That would be great combine my two favourite games into one!
Because such a game would require intensely and insanely powerful computers, the games have different developers and publishers, and such a hybrid game is so awesome a concept that it can barely be grasped by human comprehension.

The horse hewer and slayer units could definitely help with the damn tagmata cav for sure...
Do you have one of these videos for the Viking Culture pack?
the langobards are modern day italian and the alans are modern day portuguese,so if you are italian or portuguese and even french you are actualy a german ;-;
Thats not that simple. The original inhabitants are part of the mix too.
i know that is just kind of a fun fact,is fun to think that a lot of countrys are descendant from old german cultures
***** but some like the suebi tribe settled in today portugal so alot of those where actual german, and actualy the major part of germany is descendant from scandinavian tribes from nordic bronze age
***** i know i find it funny thoose turns on history =D
João Victor Macedo Well, it is not really like you said...

Heir id like to kno how do you feel about DLC ... the game just got realese ...
Maximus tested Scaled Clubmen vs Gothic Warband, the clubmen won both on the charge and in shieldwall. I believe he said they have 20 bonus vs infantry.

What pissed me off the most is that they didnt even give a Freelc with viking or longbeards.
Very useful review of the DLC. Thank you very much :)
what key highlights all troop movements?
Looks like a really impressive and formidable roster! I'll be interested to see how they shape out; but they seem to be as powerful as germanic brethren. The all powerful germanic cav and bows backed up by solid 'zerkers and heavily armored meatshields. I can say I'm excited! :)
I noticed you're not using precision on your archers, does the 100% fatigue penalty affect reload time?
Heir?! What is your favorite drink?! What would I be serving alongside this medium steak you said you enjoyed?! A type of beer perhaps?
Hey Heir even if you lose the battle, I think it would be very interesting (and wanted) if you used all the unique units of a faction, you pretty much went 6 Germanic Horsemen every time and didnt use too many of the unique units, please consider it
Please tell me you got this as a freebie from CA and didn't pay for this.
5.99 paid DLC pal.
I know, but I'm hoping heir didn't pay for it.
Please tell me you don't kill seals, that's a 1000 times worse than buying DLC :P
Highly debatable
I believe those godnamen use the heavy spatha just like the herculiani seniores and royal suebi swordsmen, so they dont have any bonus vs infanry.
Carthago delende est. Also Saxon or bust!
U didnt bring horse killers against huns? lol
Huns have bad cav in this game, so weird O_o
It's great to finally see some recognition of the ancient names and gods of my forefathers and foremothers in a popular media.

I wonder if it's worth the price...
High price but it's worth it bby
all things considered the summrer sale isnt that far away, and a campaign pack will probably drop by then
The Horse Hewers are great
One word for the bards
Diplomacy
Lol true
@@HeirofCarthage like its so easy to Conquer the region they are in and take control of the gem stones you basically made the silkroad v2
Interesting, these 3 factions are at least different enough compared to Saxons, Ill probably buy it later.
Optimax71 not a must have but they have enough unique units and a little extra bonus with Ybor to get it eventually, especially on a sale.
Where do women with hair tied like long beard belong to which unit?
white leggings?
Will this play Rome 2 well?

HeirofCarthage play as WRE and just retreat all units to Britannia and stronghold it than conquer outwards!

like for heir to do an awesome Visigoth campaign :)
