Wait, how old are you? I had assumed you were younger than me, but '95-'96? I didn't start getting my own games until like '99-'00. I think the first games I actually got on my own were DK64, Majora's Mask, Banjo-Tooie, Oracle of Ages and whatnot. Not that I hadn't been playing games before that, but those were all got for me by my parents. Also, never had a Sega CD. Always wanted one, but my parents wouldn't get it for me. Still have my original model 2 Genesis though. I think I still have my original NES too. Didn't have the SNES either. Good times.
@@StopSkeletonsFromFighting What are your thoughts on the animated series The Great North? is that an accurate depiction of life in Alaska. When did you move to the continental USA?
Just for info , the version of Panzer Dragoon that was included with PD Orta was actually a straight port of the Windows 95 PC version ,which would have been a much easier game to port than the original Saturn code, even more so given the Xbox was just a glorified PC (right down to the PIII CPU and Geforce3 variant of the GPU). It would have basically been impossible for the original Xbox to emulate the Saturn , certainly at any sort of playable speed
It's amazing how rare Keio became. Before I sold my collection, it was one of the rarest I owned, along with Dynastic Hero on Turbo CD. Had them growing up when they were brand new. Great video!
A couple I'm proud of: Rule of Rose, a super rare but mediocre horror game I got for 15 dollars, complete, at a used book store. Also got conker's Bad Fur Day (N64), a game I loved when younger, for 12 dollars at a CD store.
thegreattesm I never got Rule of Rose, but I do have a copy of Haunting Ground in my cabinet. My brother actually bought it, so I dunno if he paid full price or if he got it discounted, but whatever the case, it’s worth a lot more now than when he bought it. I have played it and it’s pretty good. I love the setting and tone and just how absolutely creepy that game can get. Have you played Rule of Rose? I heard from someone on a different video that it wasn’t that great.
I lost my collection in a fire in 2007, but I had Saturn games like Guardian Heroes and Dragon Force + others. They were $25 used when I got them in 1996. Had the big box Earthbound, also $25 at K Mart in 1996, just being liquidated. Best score ever was Snatcher for $6 used in 1997. CIB of course, even with the foam brick to keep the jewel case sturdy. RIP.
I became a patron after seeing this video. I used to be a video game journalist, and our website got completely crushed and buried when Metacritic decided that they weren't going to list our reviews anymore for nebulous reasons. Publishers stopped sending us review code and copies because Metacritic was half our traffic. Never recovered and I've moved on to other things. I've been there, and I wanted to support. Became a Patron because this video really spoke to me on a personal level. Keep on fighting the good fight!
I loved that this video doesn't look scripted... it sounds much more natural! It's not like I don't like your scripted videos, it's just that this one tastes different, and it tastes good
SalameeQueijos I also that although it’s clearly not scripted it could pass off as scripted due to how precise and well spoken Derek has gotten. He doesn’t ramble on and on like so many other vlogs out there that end up boring me. I was enthralled from beginning to end. I loudly gasped when he said he paid $5 for a closed sealed copy of MM5. Wow
Clearly I don't have a story as amazing as any of yours, but I'm still happy with the time I got a loose copy of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door at a flea market for $3.
Out of all the gaming-related channels on UA-cam, SSFF is the one and only that makes me happy with each new video. Can't even really say why, but I just love this channel.
Panzer Dragoon Orta on xbox is not emulating the saturn, the original game is a port of the pc version (yes there's a version of panzer dragoon for windows 95)that version uses directx, like the xbox, so it was the easiest to port
Mega Man 9 press kit, I’m so glad you that you love it. That’s cool that you got it signed :) It was sitting in my safe for a few years and I was afraid to even touch it because I didn’t want to mess it up. I got more joy out of giving it to you than I did keeping it locked away. Thank you for all of the videos and music you have created. Fingers crossed for some new Starship Amazing tracks at some point :)
That Earthbound Box. For years and years there was a stack of like ten of them in my local Zellers, sticker price of like $50 each. I could have sworn when Virtual Boys were being liquidated, they had a stack of 6 for $50 each too.
SSFF is still one of the best gaming channels around. Both of you play off of each other really well and have this great energy and enthusiasm that really comes through with the way you two interact together and talk with each other and the audience, and it makes for some really enjoyable stuff. Kudos, and thanks for the great watching material!
I remember working at this mall in a comic book shop, and we had a copy of Spider Man: Web of Fire for 32x for like 10 dollars or so. I had no idea it was worth a lot more and some geek just came in and bought it just like that. Crazy.
Derek, I remember years ago in your Rocket Knight HVGN vid, you mentioned Sparkster made a cameo in Snatcher. I’ve finally been able to play it and you’re right; it’s a masterpiece!!!
Thy Name Is P! Oh man I remember like it was yesterday walking into a Best Buy just a few months after Conker’s BFD had been out and seeing an entire rack of new copies being cleared out for $20. I snatched it like nobody’s business and ended up loving it. I have to thank that game bombing in sales for me to get it so cheap so it’s a bittersweet feeling.
I got a copy of BFD loose that I bought for $30 from a small mall game store that was going out. Not my rarest / most expensive game but still a great deal.
@@GuileOhio My second best deal is when I picked up _JoJo's Bizarre Adventures_ on the ps1 for $30 at a pawn shop when it first came out. I could not find this game at any retail store so when I finally saw it at a pawn shop, I picked it up despite the high price. A complete copy now fetches over $150 on ebay.
Seeing the strategy guides Derek owns, I would like to see a video all about that, in particular for same games with 2 different strategy guides and notice any difference or additional information
Game collecting stories are honestly so fun to tell and hear about. When I was a kid I remember going to our local rental store with my uncle around the time when the 7th generation started and I really wanted to play Chibi-Robo on the Gamecube cause I would always rent it. They weren't letting people rent the game anymore cause they wanted to sell it and I was super bummed out but my uncle got it for me at an incredibly cheap $10 Canadian nowadays the NTSC version is around $100 - $200 which isn't really that expensive but that game means a lot to me and I'm just happy to have a CIB that's pretty much new (thank god I took care of my games). I'm not one to usually comment on videos but this video brought back a lot of memories from collecting and it made my day. Great video you two!
Pretty much every expensive game I own was bought years ago for the cheap, with the exception that a few years ago for my Birthday my brother actually paid the big bucks for a CIB copy of Beatmania IIDX 16th Empress for ps2. Thanks Bro! Play that game all the time still.
I've had 2 lucky finds so far: - The first one was POSTAL 2 on PC. I was in high school at the time and I already knew about the game being banned in my country (France) when I found it for 12 euros at a thrift store. It was the English version. I still don't know how that game ever ended up there. - The second one was F-ZERO on SNES. I found the German version, complete in box, on Amazon for 5 euros. It still has the original price tag (50 Deutschmark) on the box!
Game collecting is one of my favorite hobbies, I'd love to hear you guys talk about it more in the future! I'm so hype for flea market season, I already found a Dreamcast with all the hookups and controller for $10 the other day!
Derek, the things you said at the end are the things I'm preaching for years and I'm happy that you are saying it to a wider audience than I ever could. I kinda started collecting arround 20 years ago. My family always visited flea markets and I came along when I was still little. When I was 5 or 6 years old I got a 2nd Hand SNES and GB (the grey brick one), and from then on I always looked for SNES or GB games when we were on a flea market. The games were pretty cheap compared to today, so I could get good games for 5 to 10 DM (Deutsche Mark). This was the way I started getting videogames. Today I rarely buy SNES or GB games because of the prices. I usually get some obscure ones the majority doesn't care about like the Japan-exclusive Super Formation Soccer 2 or The Fish Files. Today I mostly buy Wii, Xbox or DS games on flea markets or at videogame shops, because these are now the games that are easy and cheap to get. For example I lately got Pikmin 3 for 5 bucks. And I tell everyone who wants to get into retro stuff to either look for some good bets or to get the stuff no one else is interested in. The best way to get old games for less money is to get them in this time span where parents sell the console of their kids and no one with an income has nostalgia for them. I used to start my SNES collection like that. Greeting from Germany, I really love your channel! You two are doing an amazing job!
i think the highlight of our collection is my wife has a full set of the .hack// games. we went to check out the local pawn shop and they had #3&4 in the series, for i believe 100$ each (ebay they were going for almost double that). i remember how excited she got, we ran home, she grabbed every book, game, CD, etc of value to bring in and sell to get them.
Your Earthbound box has left me mad jelly for years boii! I have the guide in excellent condition and the cart saves just fine with the battery. Just need the big ol box to complete my set .-.
Because of YOUR video on it (when it was first released), I got Wild Guns CIB for 8 bucks at the local thrift store right down the street that I'd visit religiously in 2007-2011
Cool vid! I'm not really a collector but here's my top 5 most expensive games. 1. Klonoa Door to Phantomile (PS1) $185 Bought it the year it came it out but never finished it. Still in good condition. 2. Castlevania Order of Ecclesia (DS) $133 This is new/sealed. Bought it for like $20 a few years ago, never got around to playing it, but it jumped up in price for some reason 3. Zelda Minish Cap (GBA) $89 I actually have 2 copies of this game (complete/good condition). One was my brother's but he didn't want it anymore. Probably thought it was worthless. 4. Meroid Zero Mission (GBA) $84 Bought it when it came out. Complete/good condition. 5. Pokemon FireRed (GBA) $81 Honestly don't know why pokemon games costs so much considering they sell million of copies.
Mine is Star Fox Super Weekend. Got it back in like 2003 at Gamestop where it was marked as a copy of regular SNES Star Fox so I got it for $8. Your site there priced it at over $1000 now. So that's nice.
I found a copy of Magic Knight Rayearth for Saturn in box for $30 at a swap meet when I was starting to collect Working Designs games. At the time, I don't think anyone knew it was even a rare game, it's crazy to think it's worth hundreds now.
Derek, from the bottom of my heart I write here to tell you I absolutely love your videos. Your style, your demeanor, your positivity, your passion, keep doing what you’re doing. I wasn’t having a good day but after seeing this video (which went by as if it was 5min) I was instantly feeling better after it. You’re the reason I gave Earthbound, the Disney Afternoon Collection, and others a chance. It warms my heart to hear you say EB went from criminally underrated to almost overrated in your watch. Pat yourself on the back, man because you had a hand in that! For the longest time your video was THE Earthbound video with the most views on UA-cam. I can’t tell you how many ppl I’ve recommended your HVGN EB video to. Take care and if we ever come across I’d love to buy you and Grace a beer for all these years you’ve been here. Thank you. PS: you must’ve been a little spoiled if you owned a SNES, a Genesis, a 32X and a Sega CD when you were a kid, lol. The Sega CD alone was $300 (in 1992 dollars!) when it was new!
Cool. Some rare games I have are: Dragon's Lair Trilogy - WII Haunting Ground- PS2 Strider 2 -PS1 King Neptune's Adventure - NES Power Blade - NES Shatterhand- NES Super Spy Hunter - NES Metal Storm - NES
Panzer Dragoon 1 also was released on PC (It's how I played it as a kid) and I wouldn't be surprised if Orta's version is the PC release or code. The PC release actually worked perfectly on windows 7 when I tried it out of the box again. Shoutout to Sega for making Orta back compat on Xbox one thus helping preserve PD1 and Orta.
I usually find the best way to price games is to search on Ebay and select the "Sold" and "Completed Listings" option to then show you what people were willing to pay for a particular title over the past few months to get the best, most recent "average" value.
i think a lot of it depends on where you live. if you live in a big city, it’s really difficult to bargain hunt in thrift stores and flea markets because you are one person in a SEA of people who know exactly what you do, bargain hunting just like you. in addition, thrift stores in huge cities *know* the prices of what they have. the two thrift shops closest to me charge just under market value for rare games, usually, and they keep all video games in the expensive case with the jewelry and designer clutch purses. in big cities, i think your best bet is always gonna be to drive the extra mile to go to an estate sale OR go to the nearest smallish town to hunt. i can never find anything in my city, but as soon as i stepped into an antiques shop in Nowheresville a few hours away, i spotted an anime VHS tape that was easily worth hundreds of dollars.... being sold for $1. never give up!
I remember finding my copy of Earthbound in a local used game store last year and felt ecstatic, with instantly using my saved up rainy day money. It's honestly just insane what you can find if you take the time to do a small hunt for games.
I'm also a game collector, but I'm mad jelly of people that live in the US and can hunt in bargain bins, flea markets and the like. Only really having access to eBay means my success stories are "paying $140 instead of $300 on a game". My prized possessions are Misadventures of Tron Bonne (the aforementioned $140 one, on an eBay auction), a Rule of Rose copy that sadly lacks the manual, which I got for $45 after spotting it on the shelf of a random game store's picture and basically begging the guys to sell it to me, and Kunio-tachi no Banka, a SNES japanese sequel to River City Ransom, which I bought in Japan (for normal retail price, but still, I love this game and wanted to have it for the longest time). And for one that's totally worthless as far as rarity and price goes but means a lot to me, a copy of Final Fantasy VII signed by Nobuo Uematsu.
When you think about it there were a lot of FF7 Killers that never set out to accomplish exactly that. •PD Saga •Legend of Dragoon •Grandia The hype was just too much back then.
Don't forget Wild Arms and Breath of Fire 4... both series' latest efforts were terrible pay-to-win gatcha fests. Be thankful the corpses of your choices have either been left undisturbed, or refurbished faithfully (in the case of Grandia).
It’s great to hear all these Anchorage shoutouts. I also got a lot of great deals out of Bosco’s. Often times, they had no idea what they had. I got over half the Neo Geo Pocket library for $5 each. I had no idea you worked at the I’ll fated Microplay. Ah, good times. Anyhow, great video!
This was a great video. I love seeing other people’s collections. I dunno if I would call myself a collector because I don’t seek out rare or valuable games, but I do have a few Limited Run games. They’re not really worth anything, but maybe their value would increase over time, being limited and all that. It’s whatever, though. I’m not interested in how valuable a game is, I’m more interested in having the physical media to add to my collection.
watching your rarest games video reminds me of the time I went to a local Value Village (kinda like a goodwill) and found a sealed copy of Silent Hill 3. I asked the clerk how much was this and it was only 3 bucks. Thank you SSFF your videos are always great to watch knowing their are others out their like me who are passionate for old and underrated games.
In 2010, I remember getting a copy of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence on PS2 for £4, in excellent condition with all three discs. This was when Blockbusters was still around in the UK. They had a bargain bin with old games from the sixth generation of gaming. When I saw that they had that game in the bin, I had to grab it. I think that game can go for over £100 on eBay or Amazon
I’ve been trying to get a look at that record in the back for months and finally figured out why it looked so familiar. When I was very young I was listening to it with my family while sitting on my aunt’s lap. I got so scared I peed on her. Love your channel!
My best find was probably a couple sealed NES games at a flea market: FF1 and LoZ, for $5 bucks each. I had my older brother sell them on eBay for me so I could buy more games, which is what probably set off my love for thrifty game hunting all those years ago.
I haven't been collecting for very long so I don't have many really ridiculous deals But there is a pawn shop near my house where they don't know anything about video game prices, so I can get everything for €1,- there, the best deal I got was probably my SNES, I got the complete set with a copy of Super Mario All-Stars for €5,- I love these kinds of videos, I can't wait to see more of your collection and to hear more of those crazy stories
Funny this should go up a few days after I found a CIB copy of Armored Core: Project Phantasma (PS1) for ~$31.00 from a used video store, when the going rate for that game CIB on eBay is typically over $80.00.
You have multiple copies of strategy guides because they had a limited shelf life at Gamestop and the assistant manager would "throw them out" or reprice for a penny a couple times a month, where they would immediately land on Amazon for like $9.99
Many of my best gaming purchases (here in the UK) were whenever a retailer was facing financial difficulties and liquidating stock. While it is of course a tragedy when this happens, the company's urgent need for cash means many rare games are sold at staggeringly low prices. When GAME first entered administration in summer 2012, I purchased Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn and Wild Arms XF for £5 each (about $7.80 at the time). Then a year later in July 2013, the UK's Blockbuster went bust and I bought sealed copies of Pandora's Tower, Dragon Quest VI DS, and Project Zero (aka Fatal Frame) II Wii for less than £30 collectively (cira $45 at the time).
I got the rare single disc variant of resident evil 1 DIRECTOR’S CUT for $1 at a thrift store. It’s worth a little over $100. Was really happy to find it!
Rarest Games I have - Gitaroo Man (PS2) found it at Gamestop on clearance for $20. - Both Osu Tatakae Ouendan games AND Elite Beat Agents, all for like $30. - A Distribution Cart for shiny Entei/Raikou/Suicune for the DS, was $45 for me. Ebay. Snore. - Gimmick! on the Famicom. Ebay again, but I got mine for $200 which was crazy considering how high it normally goes.
I got Suikoden II when I was on an JRPG kick in the late 90's for the equivalent of around 15 bucks, and I still have it in really good condition. I think it goes for 200-300 dollars at least nowadays. It's a great game, but I don't think I would pay that much for it!
I remember I was a little kiddo when our local Blockbuster was clearing out their N64 inventory. I went in with my dad and I remember we bought Rogue Squadron and Episode One Racer for $8 a piece. Still have the sticker on it too.
I don't have anything quite on the level as this stuff, but a few of my nicer collection pieces: Rule of Rose - $400 Tales of Destiny II - $160 .hack//Quarantine - $160 Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance - $150 (had to sell, unfortunately, but I can get it back) all obtained for a hell of a lot less than they're worth lol
It's true that you can still find some crazy deals. I snagged a NES Miracle Piano for $1 at a garage sale last month. Never count on it, though. I happen to be a guy who loves visiting secondhand/antique stores, garage sales, and the like just to see what sort of weird old junk I can gawk at. If I don't come home with anything at all, I'm still happy. If that would frustrate you, I say stick to dedicated game stores and eBay.
The best way to play panzer dragoon saga on the original hardware would be with CD-R disc and pseudo saturn. I paid £5 for a reproduction copy and it worked great all the way through zero trouble. Not worth giving some guy hundreds of dollars when none of it goes towards the creators. But if it can make a new panzer fan then it's worth it. (Especially if the first 2 games are being remade)
the biggest problem is that most of the original games actually have disc rot so even if you pay like 600 usd for a copy there is a chance that you can't even play it all the way through
Back in the day not long after it first came out, I got my hands on PSO Episodes 1&2 Plus on Gamecube. Never even noticed the plus appended. Played it regularly for literal years before I realized, and found out even used copies sell for hundreds. Not dirt cheap, but still pretty neat that one of my favorites for so long turned out crazy valuable.
I got a semi-complete NA copy of Solatorobo: Red the Hunter on the DS. I won it from an eBay auction for about $97 USD. I played it and it's a fantastic and technically impressive RPG, and it's super rare, like over 100,000 copies *worldwide* exist, the majority of them in Japan and Europe.
The rarest game I own is Plumber's Don't Wear Ties on 3DO in the box. I remember when a loose Earthbound cart would only fetch $70. I got my copy of Earthbound cheap because it was water damaged. It did not work. I kept the damaged label, but I have a fully functional copy that I've played through several times.
One thing I was amazed to find years ago was Sin & Punishment: Star Successor for $2 CAD new at a GameStop. It seems like hardly anyone bought that. It's still cheap to get though. But, maybe in 10 years it'll be worth something.
Best deal I ever got was FF4/Chrono Trigger for PS1 complete for $20. That and FF9 for $10, when the same store charged me $50 for FF7 in a greatest hits package with no manual. 7 was a rare find in those days but I've seen plenty of copies over the years. I've never seen another copy of 9 or the CT/FF4 double pack. Worth every dime.
The best find I've ever had was finding Metal Warriors for SNES for $3 at Book Off in NYC. This was years ago before they started charging above eBay prices for everything. When I picked it up I actually instinctively looked around me to see if anyone had noticed it, as if I had done something wrong. When I started collecting back in college for my Genesis (because it was cheap), I decided I was going to try and collect games I'd discovered via emulation. I paid $30 for a copy of MUSHA boxed on eBay, which at the time I remembered thinking "Man, this is a bit pricey but I really do love this game." Little did I know it would go for A BIT MORE years later.
I got my copy of Earthbound from a neighbor of my Dads about 10 years ago. He just gave it to me with a couple of other games. He was much older, and just happened to have a little collection of SNES games. He told me he was letting me borrow it, but he has yet to ever ask for it back. It's pretty crazy to think I wouldn't have the kind of reverence I do for this game if it wasn't for the influence of your videos.
I got TWO boxed copies of Snowboard Kids 2. One is an ex rental in a crappy box that was cheap but the other is in good condition with original box and manual from ebay that was more expensive (but not the price it is today). I had no idea it would become rare or valuable, it was seriously just my favorite game ever for a while and I absolutely wanted my own copy and ended up getting two.
My knees STILL get weak when I think about Mega Man 5.
ANYWAYS, thought we’d try a new type of video. We’ll be back next week with Gamecube-GBA Link Cable Peripheral madness, so stay tuned for that. Also tell me about your craziest video game deals!

Earthbound had its strategy guide packed in with the game. That's why the box was so large.
I haven't gotten anything crazy, but a working, non-bootleg cart of Chrono Trigger for $12 is decent
RIP.

Derek is one of the few UA-camrs that I *legitimately* want to hang out with.
Wow
Wait, this is scripted? It barely sounds like it.
Derek, just noticed
Is the Kallax not one of the greatest shelves for game collections?
I’ve heard there really good, but I personally like the Ikea Billy bookcases.
I just want to express how much I appreciate you guys. Your energy and attitude really makes me anticipate every video.
Keep it up.
I got Earthbound brand new from Best Buy for $5 in 1996, I think. Best $5 i ever spent
That's hilarious how cheap that was.
My Best Buy had a big stack of them for $7. I bought one, but I’m kicking myself for not buying a second and leaving it unopened.
Mega Man 9 press kit,
I’m so glad you that you love it.
That’s cool that you got it signed :)
It was sitting in my safe for a few years and I was afraid to even touch it because I didn’t want to mess it up. I got more joy out of giving it to you than I did keeping it locked away.
Thank you for all of the videos and music you have created. Fingers crossed for some new Starship Amazing tracks at some point :)
I just wanna say you guys' channel is really cozy and chill. You're both positive without being loud and annoying. ILY.
Crazy.
Cant believe he stole your paycheck like that
Can’t believe they compressed your $10 paycheck into a Sega 32x cartridge.
Derek, I remember years ago in your Rocket Knight HVGN vid, you mentioned Sparkster made a cameo in Snatcher. I’ve finally been able to play it and you’re right; it’s a masterpiece!!!
My big bargain was a boxed copy with manual of Conker's Bad Fur Day for $40. I am still super proud of that one!
I got lucky and bought _Misadventures of Tron Bonne_ for $5 from my local Blockbusters when it was clearing out their ps1 stock. It still plays great.
I got that one for like $140 and it was STILL a deal. Goddamn, son.
The Final Fantasy 7 ones are cool side by sides; the official one is missing a ton of hidden stat info
I've had 2 lucky finds so far:
- The first one was POSTAL 2 on PC.
I got a Gameboy Adance SP a few years ago for €2 in a charity shop. I don't use it much, but it's cool to have nonetheless
This is the kind of content I LIVE for. The stories here are so fun! Felt like we were hanging out at a bar exchanging game hunting stories!
This was probably one of my favorite episodes. You’re a great story teller man, I would love more episodes like this in the future.
I love just hearing you tell stories! You have a very charming and inviting personality, I’d love to just listen to you talk about gaming stories.
i think the highlight of our collection is my wife has a full set of the .hack// games. we went to check out the local pawn shop and they had #3&4 in the series, for i believe 100$ each (ebay they were going for almost double that). i remember how excited she got, we ran home, she grabbed every book, game, CD, etc of value to bring in and sell to get them.
Your Earthbound box has left me mad jelly for years boii!
I have the guide in excellent condition and the cart saves just fine with the battery. Just need the big ol box to complete my set .-.
There's a box selling on eBay rn for 25 bucks plus shipping
Mad jelly.... boi... big ol box... .-.... stop.
"Kids, get outta here!! Git, or come back and hang out; cuz your friend Derek is d'tupid."
~ Derek Alexander, 2019
Because of YOUR video on it (when it was first released), I got Wild Guns CIB for 8 bucks at the local thrift store right down the street that I'd visit religiously in 2007-2011
Cool vid! I'm not really a collector but here's my top 5 most expensive games.
1. Klonoa Door to Phantomile (PS1) $185
Bought it the year it came it out but never finished it. Still in good condition.
2. Castlevania Order of Ecclesia (DS) $133
This is new/sealed. Bought it for like $20 a few years ago, never got around to playing it, but it jumped up in price for some reason
3. Zelda Minish Cap (GBA) $89
I actually have 2 copies of this game (complete/good condition). One was my brother's but he didn't want it anymore. Probably thought it was worthless.
4. Meroid Zero Mission (GBA) $84
Bought it when it came out. Complete/good condition.
5. Pokemon FireRed (GBA) $81
Honestly don't know why pokemon games costs so much considering they sell million of copies.
I got a zipped cd case full of Dreamcast games for £3, the seller thought they were old junk but to me was like digging up a huge chunk of gold.
Cool. Some rare games I have are:
Dragon's Lair Trilogy - WII
Haunting Ground- PS2
Strider 2 -PS1
King Neptune's Adventure - NES
Power Blade - NES
Shatterhand- NES
Super Spy Hunter - NES
Metal Storm - NES
I found a new in box Super metroid and a link to the past at a goodwill a few years ago for $5 each! Best score of my life !
Nintendrew: Best Deals I’ve Found in Retro Gaming (and where to find them!) (26 May 2019)
SSFF: bruh (6 June 2019)
this video was good lmao
Panzer Dragoon 1 also was released on PC (It's how I played it as a kid) and I wouldn't be surprised if Orta's version is the PC release or code. The PC release actually worked perfectly on windows 7 when I tried it out of the box again. Shoutout to Sega for making Orta back compat on Xbox one thus helping preserve PD1 and Orta.
can confirm that it's the PC version, as stated in an early Punching Weight episode and by Larry Bundy Jr. in the comments section.
More ssff. Doesn't matter the content.
I usually find the best way to price games is to search on Ebay and select the "Sold" and "Completed Listings" option to then show you what people were willing to pay for a particular title over the past few months to get the best, most recent "average" value.
YO We have that same "Sounds of the Haunted House" record and you just blew my mind having it in the background!!!!
i think a lot of it depends on where you live. if you live in a big city, it’s really difficult to bargain hunt in thrift stores and flea markets because you are one person in a SEA of people who know exactly what you do, bargain hunting just like you. in addition, thrift stores in huge cities *know* the prices of what they have. the two thrift shops closest to me charge just under market value for rare games, usually, and they keep all video games in the expensive case with the jewelry and designer clutch purses.
in big cities, i think your best bet is always gonna be to drive the extra mile to go to an estate sale OR go to the nearest smallish town to hunt. i can never find anything in my city, but as soon as i stepped into an antiques shop in Nowheresville a few hours away, i spotted an anime VHS tape that was easily worth hundreds of dollars.... being sold for $1. never give up!
holy crap MICROPLAY
I got my N64 there as a kid, and I cherish the dude who suggested I get Banjo-Kazooie with it. RIP mom 'n' pop game shops.
I've bought some loose NES games before and stuff, but my rarest game is NFL Fever 2003, factory sealed. My dad bought it years back.
This is so rad!
Dude, Mega Man 5 for 5 bucks.
Hot damn, man.
What a steal!
When you think about it there were a lot of FF7 Killers that never set out to accomplish exactly that.
•PD Saga
•Legend of Dragoon
•Grandia
The hype was just too much back then.
I really enjoyed the flow and editing of this video!
watching your rarest games video reminds me of the time I went to a local Value Village (kinda like a goodwill) and found a sealed copy of Silent Hill 3. I asked the clerk how much was this and it was only 3 bucks. Thank you SSFF your videos are always great to watch knowing their are others out their like me who are passionate for old and underrated games.
Here's my SNES flex.
-Pocky & Rocky: $10
-Pocky & Rocky 2: $10
-R-Type III: $10
-Ogre Battle: $14
-Earthbound: NOTHING. Whatup.
Wow! When Alaska switched to DVD from VHS, I was one year away from buying my first Blu-Ray movie...
My best find was probably a couple sealed NES games at a flea market: FF1 and LoZ, for $5 bucks each. I had my older brother sell them on eBay for me so I could buy more games, which is what probably set off my love for thrifty game hunting all those years ago.
I haven't been collecting for very long so I don't have many really ridiculous deals
But there is a pawn shop near my house where they don't know anything about video game prices, so I can get everything for €1,- there, the best deal I got was probably my SNES, I got the complete set with a copy of Super Mario All-Stars for €5,-
I love these kinds of videos, I can't wait to see more of your collection and to hear more of those crazy stories
Loved this style of video! I'd love to see more of these intermingled with your regular videos!
Some UA-cam fandoms get to call their favorite channels patriarch Daddy. We get to call ours Uncle. 😎
Dude, Aunt Grace and Uncle Derek are the fucking best!
Rarest Games I have
- Gitaroo Man (PS2) found it at Gamestop on clearance for $20.
Dude! Stop all your projects and just play that PDS this instant! It's a MASTERPIECE, easily the best jRPG out there!
I don't have anything quite on the level as this stuff, but a few of my nicer collection pieces:
Rule of Rose - $400
Tales of Destiny II - $160
.hack//Quarantine - $160
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance - $150 (had to sell, unfortunately, but I can get it back)
all obtained for a hell of a lot less than they're worth lol
Love the idea of videos focusing on bargain-hunting game collecting!
"There's like 5 good mega man games, but those 5 are different for everyone"
I spit out my drink. It's so damn true.
Oh shit SSFF uploaded! Time to stop literally anything I am doing.
