These run times are way better than I expected, especially in the RAW modes with the fan running. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Anthony, yes i was surprised with the times. I think its always good to test a camera and see what the limits are ... So far I have been very impressed with the R5C
Hey thanks for the review... I did not know your channel, am happy that finally someone talks less about himself, but more about the matter and immediately without much talk at the beginning but comes straight to the topic... factual and very competent and by the way one has also learned a lot again... normally I never do that, but here I like to ask if it is ok to make a video about the most useful setting option on the R5c also C70... and of course me have now subscribed, so thanks again for many new insights regarding the R5c I'll try that directly and see how it works… 💪🏾
Really love your break down style, detailed and highly informative. Thank you for this video!
Thanks Tim, it was a lot of work but worth it in the end 😉
That's a great test and I thank you for that! Take care! Looking forwar to the promised videos/test you mentioned in this video!! :)
Hey Max, still waiting for some item to arrive 😳
Thanks so much for these tests. Very helpful.
Thanks
I Truly Believe This Was Incredible Video. Thank You...
I am A "New Member" of your channel...
i am planning to buy a Canon R5c very soon.
I am doing my research... Keep These Videos on R5c going...
Thanks for the thorough breakdown! Did you use manual focus or AF during these tests?
Great info, Darryl, thanks for taking the time
Thanks for watching Mike
Awesome tests thanks 💚
Thank you!
My R5c is coming today. I'm pumped. I bought an Anker battery pack too. Looks like I don't really need it. I have plenty of BM batteries. Great work. Thanks!!
Let me know how you get on with the R5C, sadly the Anker battery is not in stock in NZ 😪
Thanks so much.
Thank you sir!
💯 18-35mm is legendary 👌🏼 nice one mate ☺️
This is my second lens, the last one I used to much and killed the AF🤪
Great video! If I were to shoot intermittently short clips of around 10-30 secs, would u say I could get a whole days worth of shot on 1-2 batteries ?
Useful info thanks
Thanks csound
Thanks Daryyl for informative video!!
Thanks HMFilms
Hi! great video and thank you for the info! I also have LP-E6N batteries ad it shows a wrong remaining times recording on display,a charged battery shows 400min! Another question: how you set blocking menu in video mode? thanks :)
Great review, thank you!
Can you test the battery life when shooting in HD?
Great video! I've had issues with my sigma 18-35 on the r5c. It doesn't work for some reason. Do you know if I have to update the firmware on this lens for it to work with the rf-ef adapter?
Great breakdown could you tell me what CFexpress card you used on testing footage
Nice work Darryl 🎥 👍
Thanks Ron 😁
Great Review Darryl! ... as you know competitors pay youtubers to find problems in Canon products when they come out! Also for the R5 I was super scared of oveheating... it happened only one time when I tested it in 8k-raw. My R5c is coming by courier...so your video comforted me greatly. By the way... I tested the Zitay dummy Cf-express that records to an M2 HD... I could record 30 minutes RAW on the R5 without problems... and 2TB are costing MUUUCH less than any 2TB cards.... [not affiliated but I wanted to share with you this result!]
Thanks for the info, just had a look at the Zitay dummy. With the cable coming out of the dummy memory card can you still close the door?
@@DarrylCarey no of course but they give little hack to let the camera go anyway.
Would not use it for run and gun in extreme situations but for long interviews or events is stunning…
@@MCO_group Will have to see if i can get one to test....
@@DarrylCarey May be they will send you a unit to test for free... I had to buy it... not expensive but free would be better... it's on Amazon in most Countries.
Excellent review Darryl. Forty minutes is enough to record an interview, but I was curious about the 30-minute break you took after using the camera. Would the camera work normally if you continued recording without pausing?
Yes the camera will keeping going as long as it has power. A quick swap of the battery and the camera is ready to go. I used it the other day for a 2hr shoot and used a USB-C battery to power the camera the whole time.
@@DarrylCarey And she didn't overheat?
@@niltons.spagnuolo No overheating, the fan was working but could not notice the fan noise
Can you link the camera adapters and nd filter units so I can check them out. Thanks!
Great review. Thank you. Side question. What brand are those vertical lights?
Hi Peter, thanks for watching. I'm using Nanlite Pavotube II. the trick to getting the soft glow is a Tiffen Black Pro-Mist 1/8 filter
Nice! :)
Have a good week!
Thanks Sina, hope you are well
@@DarrylCarey doing good thanks!
I've been trying to purchase one since launch day but it's been out of stock everywhere. I can't wait to get one. It solves all of the issues I have with my R5. Thank you for sharing your results! It helps a lot.
Thanks Sean, have you found an R5C yet?
@@DarrylCarey Of course! No, unfortunately everywhere is still out of stock. I'm renting the R5 multiple times a month for events and it's adding up. I hope supplies normalize soon.
@Sean Coley Hope you find one soon, I know what it like to rent cameras. I spent some much money renting red cameras before I got the Komodo and now I'm making money renting the komodo😱
@@DarrylCarey Thank you! I hope so too. In 2019, I spent over $13k renting equipment. In 2020, I didn't have enough work to rent. In 2021, I was lucky enough to buy most of what I needed but still rent an R5 until I'm able to land an R5c. Hopefully soon 🤞🏻 What platform(s) do you use to rent your gear?
@@SeanColey You are going to love the R5C, shot with it a few times and feels like my C70 and the image is sharper with more detail
Thanks Darryl! Good to know the battery may not be as bad as they are making it out to be!
How have you found the R5c compared to your R3? Now I know the obvious answer is 'The r5c is a video first camera' however im trying to get an authentic comparison between the R5c and R3 as they are both super capable for video and photo. How have you found the two cameras and what are you liking/Disliking between the two cameras?
Hi Harry, the R3 is more for photography and I love the images I'm getting from the new sensor, even more than the R5/R5C but for detail the R5/R5C is way better. I think if you are more a photography and do not need high res images (24mp is fine for most work) then I would go for the R3 which has an insane battery life
Very useful video! 🙌🏾 Are there any limitations shooting 120fps with the sigma 18-35? ie resolution
You shoot 6K Raw in S35 mode with the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8, which is a really nice setup
great video.. maybe i missed where you said what memory card you were using when you were doing these test.
Hey man, thanks for sharing your experience. Everybody saying it is not last that long which makes me stop thinking about canon r5c.
Is there any plan doing a video/review about r5c ?
Not at the moment, as I have a huge back log of reviews 😢
Hi Darryl,
Thanks for this video.
I had heard news that the R5C had a recall which started in Australia. Did this die out and it’s back on the shelves?
Are you still holding on to your R5?
I'm not sure why the R5C was recalled in OZ, but I had one of the first in NZ and had no problems with it. I sold my R5 as there is no point having an R5 and R5c
@@DarrylCarey, thanks for the quick reply.
Good to see you do the battery tests and get better results than I expect. I wonder how much battery savings it would be if you turned on the airport mode.
Looking forward to see more videos on this bad boy!
@@nomad0714 You can even turn off the tally led and card record led, should do another test with everything turned off to see if it makes a difference
does it have the gridlines while recording in video mode like the c70?
👍 Great content as always...these latest cameras and lenses make my 5D Mk2 look obsolete 🤣
Hey mate, hope things are well with you. 5D MKII is an awesome photography camera, sadly cameras have to do everything these days.
thank you!!!!
Thanks for watching
thanks for this!
Thanks for watching Mark 😀
Yes! U have very good and informative content! Keep it up bro! Subbed as well! :) cheers from Virginia!
@Mark Biscocho Thanks for the Sub 😉
were these tests done with the LP E6NH or LP E6N batteries?
I'm trying to decide which recording mode to use for the wedding on Saturday. My first videography client for weddings.
Darryl, what is the AF performance in 120fps 4k? Is there any AF in that frame rate?
it feels the same as the C70
Hi I just spotted the R5C battery video. It’s great and I am going to try too. As some one asked, the recording was done on manual focus mode I also like to clarify that. You mentioned it was fully auto and I assumed that operating mode was on auto. I like to ask one more Question. My R5C camera had something wired that when I try to switch from photo to video the power gets off even the battery is fully charged. Then when I off the camera and try to on it won’t switch on. Even in photo side or video. Then I had to remove the battery and put back and switch on the get the power on. Please let me know. Cheers
u Did perfect test ! Could u tell soimething more about AF? I was woried about battery life but after your test im not. BUT, there is some issiue with AF (its problably same as C70 - it means dual pixel af version one, but on R5 classi u have version 2, im wonder how it works on that version one, albo how it works on 4k 100 fps, i heard its also problem with tracking, or no tracking at all ?
regards brian.
In Video mode I would say the R5c is the same as the C70, which is not a bad thing as long as you understand the limits. Canon included the Face only AF from the C70 which works really well (in good light)
How ypu like the camera for photos?
The problem is not the recording time it’s the standby time which is almost the same as the recording time.
You're the best for doing this man ... was one of my biggest concerns with the battery life. Basically for my situation, this means about 1HR of record time. Maybe more if I'm recording external only to a Ninja V. Now if we can all figure out how to get one since the first batches are all gone!
I have the canon battery grip coming and I hope this will double the recording time, will talk about that in an upcoming video. XF-AVC 10bit Intra-frame is a really nice file to edit and to know you can get 60mins + from one battery is awesome. Some stores in NZ have stock 😉
@@DarrylCarey cool man. Wonder what shipping to the US would be? 🤣
@@Malick333 check out www.photowarehouse.co.nz they have stock and I think they ship overseas
@@DarrylCarey just found and bought one state side!
@@Malick333 That's awesome news, let me know what you think of the R5C after you have used it
Great video. Let me ask your opinion. I do a lot of weddings. Born photo and video. II have the C70, R5 and the R3. I want to get the R5C and was thinking about selling my C70. Do you think the R5C would match up better with my other cameras rather than the C70. Which would you get rid of
Hi Henry, personally i would keep the C70 and sell the R5 as the R5C will replace it as its the same camera in photo mode and it even feels the same in the hand. I love the C70 for the built-in ND's, battery size and the layout.
@@DarrylCarey okay. I thought about selling the R3 sone could have 2 cameras at 45 megapixels. Also the R5C isn’t weather sealed. I also do a a lot of landscapes
@@HenryEiland Good point about the weather sealing, still would keep the C70 because its such a good video camera. You will get a good price for the R3, still really hard to find
Hi Darryl, great video and information, thank you! I'm curious, I've been doing short bursts (10 seconds or so) of recording but my battery drain seems significantly more than yours. When I put in a full battery, the indicator says I have about 40 minutes of time. From there it drops constantly...whether I record or not. I've tried different batteries and different codecs. In RAW I get about 25 minutes. When you put a fresh battery in, what does the camera say the run time is?
Hey Scott, the camera was recording non-stop with every format I tested, do you have the fan set to auto and you are using the LP-E6NH that came with the camera, I did test the older battery model and when I started the camera the battery was dropping really fast.
@@DarrylCarey Thanks for the reply. I had it on auto fan then switched back to low. Not sure if that helped or not. I did switch down to 24p and noticed a bigger improvement. I thiink I had 59.97 on at one point. That may have been the issue.
@@scottw6960 I think the 50p would use more power. let me know if you do anymore testing
Just tested 25p vs 50p - the latter drains (the battery even when not recording) at a very high rate
@@AdrianVenturaMusic that was my experience as well. I did 24p and battery life improved to about 50mn
Hi Darryl How many minutes does this camera record for 4K50fps continuous recording? Is there a problem with heating the body?
Hi Darryl, does R5C support 4k 120fps in super 35 or 16 mode? Thx!
I'd also like to know this!
Only 50/60p in super35 and up to 120 in super16. Can only see 2048x1080 in Super16 mode
What about the fan noise when it came on, did the microphone pick it up. Thanks
The fan noise is very low, my testing was outdoors so could be different if you are in a quiet room.
👍🏾🙏🏾
Did you only use the newest LP-E6NH batteries? Just curious!
Hi J L S, yes I used the new LP-E6NH, I purchased 4 extra because the pre-product reviews said the battery life was so bad 😆
@@DarrylCarey great to know!
Off topic, how much of 8k 24fps raw lite will fit on a 256gb card?
Sorry i did not test storage
How did you get these times? I’m using the same format and settings and getting as little as 20min from the canon batteries 🤷♂️
Just found out it’s because I’m recording in 50p; 25p battery lasts at least twice as long.
Hey Adrian, great to hear you got longer times. 20mins still low, do you remember the settings ?
I think Darryl was using camera on sills and you can get results. When you use R5c with subject or face tracking or every situation that Af have to do some work you will get time not more than 25 min of recording.
Any 60fps is 41mins on the battery. Including 1080. My R5C arrived a few days ago. Anker battery will arrive today. Will do some testing
Hi Ziggy, let me know how you get on with the Anker battery. Still trying to find one in NZ
@@DarrylCarey I got about 1hr:30mins of 4k 60fps on about 20% of the anker powerbank. Will do a more intensive test
What about 1080p?
Yeah it seems that shooting 50/60p or higher that’s when you get around 40mins regardless of the format.
I think you could be right, I wish I had more time to test 50/60 in some of the recording formats
@@DarrylCarey In XFAVC Long gop 4K 60p that battery gives me a warning at 15minutes. I get total 25 - 30minutes total run time on one single LPE6NH fully charged.
there's no way ...I have the same camera I just picked it up yesterday and I'm getting like half that time ...weird
Have you set the fan to Auto?
@@DarrylCarey … I did for some test but the first testing that I did it was on all the time
The strange was, when i was testing the different formats the fan would be on for some and others it was not .....I think the fan being set to Auto helps, unless your in a really hot place and then I would set it to low ..
Not true I’m sorry I do the same you do I used a 500mm f4 with the r5c and I’m not getting more than 20-25 minutes max sorry
I’m still using the R5C now and the recording times are the same as my test. What’s are your settings?
@@DarrylCarey I use 4K long gop 24p 95% of the time, auto AF sometimes screen brightness is set to 0. Recording and stopping shutting the camera off and on between takes maybe I’m getting 30-40 min of usage. Just yesterday I was filming a podcast started with full battery and it only last me for 37min 4K 24p using a 16-35mm 2.8 mark iii ef
I’m not saying you’re a liar just that my numbers and the numbers of pretty much every one I know aren’t even close to what you’re getting
@@nes.torfernandez I will test the settings my R5C when I get home and get back to you 😁
@@nes.torfernandez Sorry for the delay only got time to do the test this morning. I had all the same settings as you apart from 25p. The camera recorded for 1hr 2mins and 51 sec before it turned off .. I was using a RF 14-35mm f4 and the fan was set to low
do u have shitty battery life too?
