    How about doing a campaign with the "theme" of being a colonial power, having a solid but not huge main empire, but the rest being smaller independant pieces scattered around the map, in the provinces being those of with the most valuable recources. Would be interesting with the DEI mechanics with popuation when launching invasion forces far away from the empire.

    That first axeman unit you showed had 4 missiles, as opposed to a typical melee unit's 1. I think its meant to be a more of a hybrid melee/peltast type unit? I found it useful early in the campaign for that reason.

    This is from my experience and looking to the spreadsheet data
    Some of the archer that have shield on their back actually have animation and battle mechanik to allow facing their back shield forward while reloading arrow.
    So yeah, it block projectile infront of them while reloading.

    • @Immersaholic

      That'd be pretty badass, I haven't noticed it myself but I also haven't specifically looked for that animation so I'll have to do that in the future.

    • @bigthoughts2644
      @bigthoughts2644 Рік тому +1

      I'm sorry mate but that only applied to esrlier total wars M2TW and prior where the shield was an object and not part of the model.
      Thats why the testudo is still broken and doesnt work in vanilla because shields are a part of the model and not its own entity so the dividing of the health bars is not possible with the current mechanics.
      That's why it's all spreadsheets. So if the spreadsheet doesnt say shield then they have no shield.

    Know this is an old video but if you haven’t discovered by now the reasoning for the Thracian units is likely because the Spartacid dynasty was believed to be founded by thracians. Which makes sense considering Spartacus was Thracian, the Cimmerians the most enduring Greek city state and the first dynastic rulers identical name it makes sense.

      My main issue militaraly is managing pop loss with my pinnning units and setting up battles out of cities as much as possible. My armies abilities to flank and kite and cause routing through morale loss has been quite impressive. Ive found it easy to isolate and cut down all but heavy eastern cav so far.
      Ive focused my generals/ agents on morale debuffs as well.
      Almost all my cav are effective in a secondary shock role but requires a bit of management to make sure they engage when theyve done thier ranged work and arnt in melee for too long!
      As ive moved south and west ive had to adjust tactics as i recruit local units which has been really interesting. If your expanding rapidly you cany sustain your high tier armies indifently!

      The Ardiaea are a major power and my biggest single concern atm. I've been trying to Ally with them for a long time to help contain Rome. But theyve refused all except non agression.
      Next major issue is border length but the Rauxsa-alanna are about to turn on me so bout tidy up that oversight.

    Well this gives me something to look more forward to when my Christmas Holidays begin (especially since TWWH-3 is delayed). Over all a fun looking faction with clear strengths and weakness's. I remember playing this faction way back in vanilla ROME-2 and had a lot of fun with it despite its (let's be honest) lack-luster unit roster (Cimmerian Heavy Archers were awesome though). So far with these faction overviews I'd still have to say my favourite faction would be Armenia, though factions such as this and Massilia also look like a lot of fun.
    If you're looking to cover barbarians factions perhaps either Averni, Booi, (or Boii), Iceni, or Galatia could be good factions to look at. Unless you've already covered them? Either way great video as always man.

    The empire maintenance late game penalty is easily avoidable! Make sure all characters are married and all that. Then send the wives out and rank them up. Then make sure to research all of the philosophy tree! That and also pick the traits that lower emp maint. when leveling up your generals! Can drastically lower that "tax" in the first 20 odd turns of the game!

  • @vegapunk100

    A very important factor I've seen when comparing cavalry is speed. A catarphract unit with 5 speed and amazing stats will lose a head to head charge vs a speed 8 or 7 catarphract with lesser stats. Main reason why eastern catarphracts are so powerful they have a speed of 8 or 7 minimum and good starts and armour when other factions have speeds of 6 or 5 for their heavy catas so the eastern catas wreck them on the charge

    • @Immersaholic
      @Immersaholic  3 роки тому

      Yes this is certainly right! That’s also why I place a large emphasis on armor as well because that’s a good indication of the mass of a unit since we don’t have hard stats on such things

    • @AbnormalObs
      @AbnormalObs 3 роки тому

      How does speed and mass factor into charge damge?

    • @Immersaholic
      @Immersaholic  3 роки тому +3

      @@AbnormalObs The exact stats are hard to calculate and I'm not sure that there is a hard number. But Kam on the DeI team would be the one to talk to about that.
      However, as a general statement, mass causes units to take more damage and knock over more enemies.
      High speed is nice but if you want a lethal charge having higher mass is better.

    • @Immersaholic
      @Immersaholic  2 роки тому

      Thanks very much mate!
      Bosphorus is in a pretty good position overall, I'd say take some basic territory to your East, maybe even Scythia itself (although that province is massive and difficult), but if you manage to take it all it'll give you a massive amount of line of sight on the area.
      Then focus on marching west into the more condensed cities on your way towards Greece.
      As for army comp, you can do a proper Greek army if you have the Greek pop for it or, the better option, is to use a Greek core for your army with lots of Scythian cav, skirmishers and throw away troops like axemen.

    One thing I wonder about this guides. When you prestent missle infantry like archers why do you even bother to focus on melee attack and damage when you rate a unit? The only thing that is important about those units is how much range dagamge they can dish out, how well do they trade vs other ranged and is it capable to survive a cav charge or does it need constant babysitting.

    • @Immersaholic
      @Immersaholic  3 роки тому +1

      I cover them because I feel they are very important for people to understand. If you have a very low tier jav unit but it has super high weapon damage/AP that's because it probably uses a axe. All of a sudden you have a very low tier unit that can serve as a excellent melee flank unit against heavy infantry.
      Units in DEI can be used for a bunch of different roles thanks to the long time battles go for so in my opinion its worth covering all aspects of units.

    • @AbnormalObs

Although since I get to edit the footage I get to cut out parts like that for your viewing pleasure, so don't be mistaken, I certainly get issues on occasion.

      Rome 2 is very CPU heavy but since my CPU is so old and bad now I play with the graphics almost entirely as high as possible so I can draw my power from my GPU instead of only my CPU.
      I also list all graphic mods in the description of my videos, PLUS I also have my own reshade preset that is the main reason my game may look very different to others. That's available for the public on the steam workshop too :)

    The new "choose barbaric or civilized" mechanic has basically killed my drive to actually play any of these factions anymore to be honest...
    They aren't balanced and dont make any sense in the way that they are currently implemented- building the civilized chain gives you unrest, creates crime and makes people pissed even if its your civilization's hub city, building the barbaric recruitment does the opposite, which I feel like should be switched around or just not exist since crime and unrest is already a huge problem in DEI...
    Also some of the units locked to either or barracks dont always make sense, like the Rhomphoroi being locked to Civilized when the majority of cultures who encountered such troops most likely would have called them Bar Bar's. (but that then leads into the elite Rhomphoroi who are armoured and equipped in the highest possible gear imaginable for a civilized nation at the time)
    I feel like there should be tech or at least a building unlock at the very highest tiers that just combines the two barracks or removes any penalty for building them, or just have the negative unrest traits of civilized barracks removed and just have a higher upkeep cost.

      Hey man constructive feedback like this is always helpful, nothing wrong with wanting things to be done differently.
      I personally enjoy the separate barrack system BUT I'm not 100% convinced the debuffs and buffs are fitting, but I also wouldn't be able to say if it is or isn't until I did a fairly long campaign as one of the factions.
      The main reason I got excited for the changes was that it makes the factions even more unique than what they already were, which is fairly hard to do in the limited nature of Rome 2.
      I'd suggest you also post your feedback in the DeI discord and see what others think. I appreciate you giving detailed and long feedback mate! :)
