Yes yes yes. Dude faction focus is the best. Please please do them all again 🙏 just the best the absolute best. This is what first got me on your videos. Keep it up!!
Very solid overview. I think you don't pay as much attention to population classes as I did when I designed the roster. This is what makes Veteran Freemen and the Arverni heavy cavalry so good: you get spear and cavalry units that are basically a tier higher in terms of population. Overall, it was a great overview. Nice work! - Q
Thanks mate and I appreciate the feedback! Your absolutely right and I should probably talk about that part of things more in the overview. I usually just try to assess if the player will get a lot of population based on the region and culture. But the units and when you get them obviously have a big impact. Cheers!
Gallic Slinger Spearmen have carried me through the early game. Paired with other 3 Speed units like naked spearmen or axemen you can play mouse and cat with the opponents wing and force engagements or over commitment from his part to a low tier wing
I try Galatia first and must say, that you were right,..not easy,..i try some turns with arverni and with the 300 men solid cheap spear unit to hold the line, is it much easier to start the campagne. I hold the whole "France" after some moves and grow really quickly. It is much easier campagne. You see, that one or two good units on start can help you a lot to grow properly and then shine. As I said before, by Galatia I need to use merceneries or wait really long to have "good" hold unit then here. Thanks for Faction Overwiew, nice as always. Jan
Hello, nice vid👍 When it comes to the faction leader impact on your "empire", I think that the traits of your faction leader decide the effect. One of the traits is a blue colored card. When I get a "selfish faction leader" - the blue trait is "Egoistic". If your leader has for example a "Cheerful " trait he has always had a good impact on the empire. Try some different campaigns with different leaders and see for yourself 😀 When I play I always try to keep an eye on whoever is going to become the new faction leader, if he has a bad trait and I'm struggling with, for example political loyalty, I might try to get someone else as an heir.
I'm getting to the end of an arverni campaign on very hard for both battles and campaign difficulty, and it's definitely been a very interesting one. For starters, I'm on turn 213, I didn't have a stable diplomatic situation until maybe turn 150. Until that point I was fighting against an alliance of Germans and the nervi in the east and endless hordes of Iberians from the south, and around turn 100 the Romans as well in cisalpine Gaul. This makes for a very diverse set of opponents that requires a lot of adapting in battles. Romans are probably the easiest to fight using phalanx units that outclass the defensive formation legionaries. The Germans were very tough with their pike formations and phalanxes cutting up the front line requiring me to let cheaper spear units hold the line and cutting them up with naked swordsmen from the flanks. The Iberians, funnily enough, are the ones I dread fighting the most, as they can erase even your most heavily armored units in seconds with their javelins and they never seem to run out. That said, there are a few units that really surprised me. Naked swordsmen have insane charge bonus as you said and pretty good melee defense, late game they have like 30 attack and 24 defense once veterans and they've carried me in so many battles as a flanking unit getting up to 1000 kills per unit and losing maybe 20-40 men. Oathsworn are also nice and I usually use them in tandem with the naked swords to protect them from stray enemy units and missiles. Also the cavalry is just insane compared to hellenic factions and even have some advantages over eastern cataphract cavalry imo, having heavy cav with 7 speed and spawning near the war horse resource (which let's you upgrade them to speed 9) really makes them much more versatile, being able to chase down missile cav and run away from melee with other cav without taking too many casualties. Overall it's a very balanced roster which can't really make the best doom stacks but for a balanced army is one of the best in the game when taking into account the amount of extra melee attack/defense you get from both tech and army traditions as the celts. It's hard for me to objectively rate campaign difficulty cuz this is my first time playing with higher battle difficulty but it feels like an 8/10 difficulty to me lol. Anyways, I really appreciate all your videos, these faction overviews always get me excited to try some new stuff in the mod, thanks for all your hard work :)
Thanks so much for the long comment and interesting info! I’m glad my vids help you try new factions. Your a legend mate thanks for your time in watching and commenting!
That is tough but barbarian Walled settlements also aren’t as tough as regular ones. The factions also usually have a general with a couple units outside the city so you can attack that and draw the garrison out.
Somewhat yes although they were buffed in the last update. If you use their shield wall abilities and more they can actually beat a lot of units, not just hold the line
Just a heads up: Veteran Freemen are no joke. You can use them for most of your campaign. They're 3rd class and Levy unit. So with the right technologies, army traditions, ancillaries and general buffs, they can reach 30+ melee defense and decent melee attack. In my last campaign I had them as main line for most of my armies still, for the easier replenishment and the javs
Nice tip mate! I’ve see a few people lately talking about low tier units becoming amazing with certain buffs being added. I’m not really a fan of that happening tbh. There’s no way a unit like that should ever be able to go toe to toe against say an elite spear unit.
@@Immersaholic I mean. I get where you come from. The general skill could use some tunning. But I like that it gives usefulness to levy factional units. Most of the times they can't beat elite or professional troops. But they can hold their ground, you know? So they're not just throw away unit anymore. Of course, that is if you choose to spend a skill slot for that. It is really situational. Not every faction is really affected by it, because most of the roster is purely professional, like the Sucessors or Greeks in general
The “selfish leader” trait is dependent on the character trait (the blue one) of the faction leader. In case of Averni, I remember that the king’s personality is egotistic, which is pretty bad. In addition, the heir’s personality might be “dependent”(I can be wrong on this one), if so, that is really undesirable as well.
