      Spartans were very much unliked and extremely brutal, to put it mildly. I wouldn`t call them "Chads". That title belongs to the Macedonian Greeks, Nubians, Chinese, Ethiopians, Baktrian Greeks settlers, Carthaginians, Mauryan, and Romans. As far as the Classical Era goes. Spartans were Omegas, not Sigma Giga Chads...

    One thing you can use the Spartan Youths for is a manpower reserve to follow your main army around, simply disband them when the locality does not have enough Spartan men around.

      For sure. I've had to restart several times bc I get declared on by literally everyone around me. I've been waiting for this one especially when they got a update a bit back that gave them more units. Thanks so much! Suggestion down the line the Boii. They have a great unit lineup and they also start in a very interesting place on the map campaign near the germanics.
    Edit- awesome video, I'll say I get one or two unit of Spartan youth to chase down people with their insane speed. They can flank very easily as well as the hoplites hold the line. A speed of four or possibly five can come in handy.

      @mojorisin069 3 роки тому

      I was typing mid video that you need to keep Rome off Greece mainland at all cost. I've had good relationship with Rome but let them get a hold and since I had the rest of Greece they broke the non aggressive pact and defensive alliance. It will happen if Rome sees you have even only a small hold on Greece. You don't even need to have pelta for Rome to attack you.

    • @mojorisin069
      @mojorisin069 3 роки тому

      One small thing people don't realize is recruiting a general will take away from your elite population. So if you want two armies early game remember you are losing 300 from Spartans elite.

      @@mojorisin069 Fantastic points mate! And thanks for the suggestion for the Boii. Although the Nervii have been suggested which might be better since they have their new duo-cultural change like how Egypt is!
      Also I'm still not convinced totally about the Spartan Youths. Their stats aren't necessarily bad. But I feel like a aor/merc unit of light cav could do better at chasing/flanking while you instead dedicate the SY social class to getting another mainline hoplite unit instead. Might depend on the situation though!

    Sparta is the go-to handicap faction for me. The population problems really highlight the feature for DEI. No full stacks of native Spartans any time soon.
    As an actual overall faction though? Man, they suck. Skiritai are weaker Agrianians, Spartan pikes are weaker Antigonid pikes, Antigonid Agema can do right flank slaughter like no other, Hetairoi beat Ionion lancers, and dart throwers will make slow moving hoplites their bitch.

    • @Immersaholic
      @Immersaholic  3 роки тому +1

      They are definitely one of the harder factions to manage, although I'm not sure I agree on their roster being so bad. One of the big things about the Skiritai is that they have guerilla deployment and the stalk ability, so you can surprise a player or even the ai really easily with them.
      As for cav they definitely struggle, but they should struggle. They are only Sparta which never had a substantial cav contingent.

    Love this one. I'm a few hours into my Spartan campaign, took Crete and Athens as fast as I could but man Macedon was still a very tough fight even early on. Had to fight two full stacks as well as the garrisons in Larissa and Pella. Their pikes really ground through my Spartan hoplites just like you said. Still trying to figure out best army builds versus pike front lines

    • @Immersaholic
      @Immersaholic  3 роки тому +1

      Those pikes can be proper rough mate! To beat pikes you basically don't fight them :P Keep your hoplites in front of them but keep pulling them back slowly. While your doing that you smash them with peltasts or any kind of skirmisher. That's really the only way for Sparta to beat them without using their own pikes.

      I've figured out the perfect strategy for sparta. Fortified stance. Try to make every fight a mini siege. Use the camp openings to hold them in a big blob and use your Cretan archers and javelin men to fire in the middle. Meanwhile, use your cav to sneak out the backdoor and rear charge the blob until they rout. I've used this tactic against rome and broke wave after wave and took little casualties.

And these guides are very helpful. Also in terms of factions what would be your opinion on Massilia and the Bosporon Kingdom factions? I heard you say Massilia is a good faction but I am curious about Bosporon, maybe because I like the idea of a Greeko-Steppe faction which I really do feel CA missed a good opportunity there along with Massila (Greeko-Gallic would have been awesome as well). And as for barbarian suggestions well I'd say either the other steppe tribes (unless they're identical to Scythia) or possibly the Gallic tribes like the Averni or Boii. Either way keep up the good content.

    The navy is very fun to use bc u can snipe whole armies (looking at u rome) and can get very far very fast
    But for a more traditional gameplay it's good to team up with seleucids/ptolemaoi and get some territories. A fun fact is that Arche Bosphorus, at least in all my campaigns, are very kind to join confederation. Just make sure u declare war on kolchis when u see them

      Also one rank means that it is one less you need to get. And ranks make a big difference especially with Sparta already having such high moral it just makes it even better.

    • @Immersaholic
      @Immersaholic  3 роки тому

      @@mojorisin069 Holden is spot on, you need the Greek City State DLC to play as them. Plus, the extra experience gives them better stats overall that they would otherwise have to earn through battles or training. The first rank of experience helps massively!

      @@mojorisin069 Yes. I do. In fact, before starting my current Parthia campaign, I uninstalled everything and reinstalled to make sure I had the most up to date version. Even so, I couldn't pick these two factions before and can't do it now.
      There are others I can't pick, like Saka Rauka, but Sparta should be available.

    • @anthrax2413
      @anthrax2413 3 роки тому

      @@Immersaholic Well, I get that ranks improve the stats of the troops. But the way I see it, starting off with a rank just means one fewer rank later on to improve, instead of having better stats right off the bat.
      Let's push this theory to the extreme. Suppose the faction bonus provided 9 extra ranks to Spartan troops. Sure, you start with troops with better stats than every other faction. But at some point, everyone else will have the same stats. The way I see it, it just means you are not getting those ranks along the way.
      Considering Spartans train from a very young age and the soldiers provide their own equipment, I'd like to see something like being able to field a full stack of Spartan Hoplites in a single turn, provided you have the population to do so.

    • @Immersaholic

      I believe they have a larger roster with more variation. However, they don't have pikes and their going to be way better with navies. But generally speaking their cavalry will beat Sparta's so that's how Athens would beat them.

    Sparta... I was wondering when you will do them so thanks a lot for this video. What I like sparta is how racist or seclusive they are. Like seriously, you could recruit veteran hoplotes with the xenoi population and even the noble army in the east IS also using xenoi. It’s ridiculously funny and overpowered if u know what ur using or when u have a running economy (usually with your slaves since you have the helot repression).
    Even in my campaigns, i never use the homoloi population. Their helot pikes is good enuf for walls, and fill ur army with foreigners. Cause I like to imagine that the new policies is that the only spartan that can fight are the general bodyguard which ur strongest citizens and consist of ur ever so scarce noble class.
