The "cabbage" text line from Finch refers to a funny cinema film of the sixties with actor Luis de Funes wich is titled in german"Louis und seine außerirdischen Kohlköpfe" = "Louis and the extraterrestrial cabbage heads" . There are a lot of referals to other SciFi films in this. like Spaceballs, Startrek, StarWars and others.

    1) That Hairdo was devinetly a call back to the Leningrad Cowboys.
    2) "...die Erde ist 'ne Scheibe" -> "...the earth is a pane/disc" (literaly translated). Scheibe is also a colloquial term for a vinyl record. So the earth is a record (figuratively translated)
    3) The thing with the cabbages, and the "blblblblblblblblblblblblblblbl", refers to the 1981 movie "The Cabbage Soup" staring Louis de Funès,
in which he plays a french farmer who is visited by an alien. Well worth a watch.

Although "Scheibe" is working in German as a play on words for being either a flat disc or a vinyl record, I guess Elizabeth wasn't that wrong when translating it with "the Earth is flat", because especially with the lines directly before about white stripes in the sky, they are clearly referencing conspiracy theorists like chemtrailers and flat earthers:
      "Ja-ja, jeder kann sie sehen
Da am Himmel weiße Streifen (da oben)

    FiNCH's first verse:
FiNCHi Gararin (*1), make the beat louder
Yesterday still in the east German slum(*2)
Today I'm a Spaceman from Eastern Germany (*3)
Kiss my ass (*4), everyone can see thr white stripes in the sky (*5) (up there)
Who needs proof anyway, the earth is a disc (*6)
    FiNCH's second verse:
Fred from Jupiter (*7) in front of the supermarket (*8)
Turns the old stereo (*9) on
    And raves to Scooter (*10)
    Stealing his spaceship (*11)
    Flying off to Mars (*12)
    (Blblblbl-sound is *13)
    (Here are the cabbages *14)
    FiNCH'S third verse:
    Where are the Jedis at?
Where are the Marsians (*15) at?
Where are the Klingons (*16) at?
Do it like my ex, dumb you hard (*17)
Gonna send Kebekus (*18) through space, away from us on a special German sausage (*19)
Flying further away thanks to zero-gravity
Nothing is as hard as man's ingratitude (*20)
    Here comes the Rocketman
    Viva La Elton John (*21)
And here are my explanations why I translated it that way. Remember that I go for meaning, not Word for Word.
    *1
Yuri Gagarin was the first person in outer space. FiNCH is known for his East German 'eastalgia', and Gagarin was very important for people in the DDR. He's often forgotten nowadays. I'm half polish, btw.
    *2
Dry walls are what the so called 'Plattenbau', the slab construct living departments very common for East Germany are made off. They are common in slums nowadays.
    *3
Again, people from the DDR would use cosmonaut instead of astronaut, because of the Russian influence of the past. It makes sense he uses this word.
    *4
'Jaja' in German means 'lick my ass', which is 'kiss my ass' in English.
    *5
Not the American stars and stripes, he means Chemtrails obviously. A big part of the East German population has a tendency to believe in conspiracy theories. He makes a nod to them here.
    *6
I can't stop wondering if this also is a comment on Putin's propaganda here. Then again: not everything is political.
    *7
'Fred vom Jupiter' is a Popsong. I don't guarantee for your sanity or any loss of braincells while you listen to it.
    *8 and *9
This is such a 90s kid East German poser image:
A big boom box on your shoulder, and then someone does a really bad breakdance. Welcome to my youth.
    *10
'Hypa, Hypa' did sample Scooter, who also were big in the 80s/90s and get sampled regularly. Definitely a nod to them.
    *12
I feel like this is another nod to a movie, or a song, I don't quite get.
    *13
Chum drum bedrum. He was an ESC participant from Russia. I detect a diss here. But a good one. And honestly, that song is hilarious and good, and it contains a rap part.
    *14
The English title of the movie is 'cabbage soup'. A classic about aliens who like... cabbage soup. From France.
Sauerkraut is also made out of cabbage. And I think most German women in their 30s have tried the cabbage soup diet once in their live. Hint: makes you fart. That's also a part of the movie. Farting.
    *15
    Mars Attacks is a classic.
    *16
Germany has a very consistent Star Trek Fanbase. I assume Picard is his captain, which means this is a nod to Worf.
    *17
German proverb 'schieß den/die zum Mond' means a hard break up.
    *18
I switched the sentence here to have it make more sense in the translation.
Carolin Kebekus is a German comedienne/singer/feminist. She's... Sometimes annoying, I guess. One of her shows is called 'Pussy Terror', but you might wanna check out some of her songs, like 'Dunk dem Herrn'. She is religious, and constantly criticises the Catholic church.
    *19
Liverwurst is so German, it hurts. It's what you eat for dinner. For breakfast. It's a staple piece.
There's a proverb about being a pouting liverwurst when you're fed up.
I think he chose the word for the image, and the rhyme with Kebekus.
    *20
'Undank ist der Welten Lohn' as a proverb translated. I guess he doesn't like Kebekus huh?
    *21
Rocketman, Elton John. A Hommage to a legend.
    thx kiko W

A lot of what makes a song "fun, bouncy and catchy" instead of "dragging you down to the pits of hell" is the drum groove as well as chord choices. Riffs also have somewhat of an impact but you can put blast beats and incredibly fast doublebass on top of many different riffs and they become evil and hellish as - well - hell. Put a two-step (like here) or another simple but driving beat (like calypso or a variation of the basic rock beat) on top and most of those riffs become catchy and bouncy.

It would be so easy for someone to trash a metal or "screamo" song immediately upon hearing it, but you still do your thing regardless. It's absolutely awesome hearing your input. The moustache ship is hilarious. There comes something into my mind: I don't know if someone has seen the new Star Trek series Picard so far. But at the end of the first season the Federation Fleet arrives to fend off the Romulans. This scene was criticised because the fleet consisted of only one type of ship (was called the copy paste fleet). Then Riker gives his speech about that this is the strongest, most powerful ship the Federation has ever created and that he is at the top of a whole fleet of them. Imagine someone would make a video about this scene and replaces the actual Federation Fleet with a fleet of these moustache ships. That would be glorious!

When I first tried reading the English translation, I thought it was mistranslated or I was loosing my mind (the later is still plausible) but glad to hear you say the translations weren't off. Fantastic review as always, though I'm surprised you didn't comment on their awesome moustache ship.

There can be different reasons why a translation feels bad or makes little sense.
      • words that don't exist in the target language
      • play on words or puns that can't really be translated
      • references to specific things you're not familiar with

Thank you, Elizabeth, for reacting to another Electric Callboy track. I love how you analyse not only the vocal techniques, but also how the song is designed to interact with our brains. Their formula for 'stickiness' is a simple one, but it's so fun that it's easy to forgive their blatant bags of hooks. I was surprised that you weren't aware of the Twi'leks from Star Wars, since they're a very commonly cos-played character. Some others have already commented on the many Twi'lek colours, but I thought I'd include some more detailed information from the Star Wars Fanon. If you ever chose to cosplay a Twi'lek, you would have to go for purple / pink skin tone, (Tyrian) as described below:
"Colors held more meaning to a Twi'lek than simple skin tone. Colors aligned a Twi'lek with where on Ryloth they were born. Typically each clan or family was composed of a certain color, various shades thereof. The exceptions of course being the rare colors which were so uncommon, that it was seldom there were even two of them in one family over generations, let alone more than that.
There were various different reasons that Twi'leks were different colors, some of those having to do with elements and other various means. Blue and aqua colored Twi'leks, called Rutian, were born of the Water Doctrin and were known for being peaceful mediators. Those born brown or gray, called Darian, were born of the Earth Doctrin and they were known for being violent warriors.
If a child was born yellow or orange, called Tolian, they were born of the Fire Doctrine and would be known for being headstrong explorers. Green Twi'leks, called Tukian, were born of the Spirit Doctrine and were known for being religious priests. Finally, there were those born with purple and pink skin, called Tyrian, that were born of the Music Doctrine. They were known for being adept in the arts such as music, poetry and dancing and were typically artists. There were also rarer colors such as white, red and black.
Characters didn't always follow these colour-coded stereotypes as I've outlined below, so feel free to cosplay whatever colour you like to bring out your inner Twi'lek:
Hera Syndulla was a green / Tukian but not a priestess. She was an ace fighter pilot and resistance fighter, eventually becoming an Alliance general. She was the daughter of a resistance leader on Ryloth. Oola was a green / Tukian, who was also was not a priestess, but an exotic dancer, who became a slave of Jabba the Hutt, and was fed to his rancor for resisting his advances.
Rianna Saren was an orange / Tolian, and was not an explorer, but a slave, underworld criminal, then spy. Koyi Mateil was another orange / Tolian non-explorer, but WAS a gold-digger, who attached herself to Duke Teta for his wealth and power.
Aayla Secura was a blue / Rutian, who became a Jedi Master, accomplished military commander and general, not a mediator. Other Rutian Jedi included Hallan Krintu, Finn, Ertay and Eldra Kaitis. Twi’lek resistance fighters include Bobie Glie, Kaasha Bateen, Isval and Yendor. Alema Rar, a blue / Rutian, also became a brave Jedi warrior, but her uncontrollable anger turned her to the dark side, and she went insane serving the Sith. Eleena Daru was the wife and lover of Sith Lord, Darth Malgus, fighting beside her husband. Om Free Ta was a corrupt senator and Xi’an was a mercenary who betrayed her former lover Dinn Jarin.
Lyn Me was a pale blue, almost white / Rutian who was not a peaceful mediator, but an exotic dancer and back-up singer, who became obsessed with the bounty hunter Boba Fett and swore to avenge his death. Ann and Tann Gella were twin masseuses owned by the Dug, Sebulba.
Garsa Fwip was a tan / Darian but was not violent. She managed a cantina / brothel, the Sanctuary, with diplomacy, preferring to negotiate and mediate to avoid violence.
Suu Lawquane was a pink / Tyrian, but no mention was ever made of artistic tendencies. She had children by a human father and was fiercely aggressive of protecting her children and husband. Yuthura Ban was a purple / Tyrian, who was also not associated with arts, but began as a Jedi, who also turned to the dark side because of hatred and anger, training many Sith. Bib Fortoona was a pale / Tyrian, who traded his own people as slaves before becoming the majordomo of gangster, Jabba, The Hutt, then succeeding him as a crime lord after his death.
Darth Talon was a rare, red-skinned / Lethan Twi’lek, who was a third generation Sith and became a personal assassin for Sith leader, Darth Krayt. Darth Atroxa was another Lethan Twi’lek Sith

Elizabeth still has to react to the one and only LEMMY KILMISTER!!!!!!
I think it more than about time for it.
Lemmy Kilmister and Motörhead are simply too great to not to.
Motörhead are the band that made double bass drums play a thing.
They are the main influence for ALL the harder styles of metal.
Lemmy Kilmister was the guitar teacher of Johnny Rotten from the Sex Pistols.
Motrhead basically alone kept the Sex and Drugs in Rock 'n Roll.
Lemmy was a roadie for Jimmy Hendricks.
He also wrote the Lyrics for Ozzy Osbournes "Mama,I'm coming home".
Metallica even wrotea song about his bass amp, called "Murder one", the song and Lemmy's amp.
And there is a joke: If there was a fistfight between god and Lemmy, who would win?
Lemmy is god so it is a trick question.

As someone already submitted lyrics, I'm gonna go ahead and do some on the fly translation (and adding in the explanation of the refference if I know it off the top of my head)
    1st verse:
FiNCHi Gagarin, dreh die Boxen doch ma' auf / FiNCHi Gagarin ( ref. to: Yuri Gagarin, russian cosmonaut), turn it up ('boxen' is slang for speakers so it's about increasing the volume)
Gestern noch im Trockenbau, heute bin ich Kosmonaut (Wouh) / Yesterday still in drywall (this is meant as a drywall constructor) today I'm a cosmonaut.
Jaja, jeder kann sie seh’n, da am Himmel, weiße Streifen (Da oben) / Yes-yes, everybody can see 'em, up in the sky, white stripes (ref. to chemtrails)
Wer braucht von euch noch Beweise? Ja, die Erde ist 'ne Scheibe / Whom of you still needs proof? Yea, the earth is flat.
    2nd verse:
Fred vom Jupiter (Yeah) steht vorm Supermarkt (Aha) / Fred from Jupiter (german pop song by Andreas Dorau from 1981) stands in front of the super market
Dreht die Boombox an und geht zu Scooter ab (Bamm-bamm-bamm) / turn up the boombox (a type of mobile speakers) and pops off to Scooter
(Scooter is a german EDM band. Also; the entire image of someone with a 'boombox' in front of a supermarket blasting too loud music and just having his own little party is a reference to german ghetto / slums area)
Klau' mir sein Raumschiff, fliege hoch Richtung Mars / Stealin' his spaceship, flying off to mars.
(Blblblblblb, hier sind die Kohlköpfe, ja) / Blblblblblb, here are the cabbage heads, yea. ( Blblblblblb is ref. to Chum drum bedrum (( /watch?v=tVj0ZTS4WF4 )) and the cabbage heads are from 'Cabbage Soup' a comedic movie featuring Luis de Funes
    3rd verse:
Wo sind die Jedi-Ritter? / Where are the jedi knights? (Star Wars ref.)
Wo sind die Marsmenschen? / Where are the Marsians ? (Mars Attacks)
Wo sind die Klingon’n? / Where are the klingons? (Star Trek)
Mach's wie mit meiner Ex, ich schieß' euch alle auf den Mond / Treat you like my ex, shoot you all up to the moon ('to shoot somebody to the moon' is a proverb for a harsh break up)
An 'ne Leberwurst geschnallt fliegt die Kebekus durchs All / Kebekus flies through space strapped to a liver sausage (I switched the sentence here to have it make more sense in the translation.
Carolin Kebekus is a German comedienne/singer. She's... sometimes annoying. Liver sausage you may already know, It's what you eat for dinner. For breakfast. It's a staple piece.)
Immer weiter von uns weg, danke, Schwerelosigkeit! / further and further away, thanks, zero gravity
Undank (Yeah) ist der Weltenlohn / Ingratitude is the world's wage (proverb. something along the lines of 'Nothing is as hard as man's ingratitude' in terms of meaning.)
Hier kommt der Raketenmann, viva la Elton John / Here comes the rocketman, viva la Elton John (Rocketman - Elton John -> Spaceman - Electric Callboy, the scheme is obvious I'd say. *wink wink* )
I did this kinda on the fly, so anyone wanna add more if I forgot something, feel free to do so. Also correct any mistakes I made.
    Greets from Germany :)

Hey Elizabeth! Great stuff as always! I think you would really enjoy exploring the band Thank You Scientist - particularly their live performance of the song Anchor. They're an intriguing fusion of jazz and rock, and the song is lengthy so you could be satisfied after being spoiled by metal.

Props to you for getting so much of the german lyrics.
This song is great in my opinion, but as with some other songs by them, the lyrics add another layer because some of them have alot of jokes or references to movies and stuff
    Sidenote:
The green alien you were wondering about if it belongs to star wars: it does 100%. Although I am not sure we ever saw a green Twi'lek in the movies, they exist. Twi'leks are not blue in color only

7 months late here, but there was a green Twi'lek in the Original Trilogy. In Return of the Jedi she was locked up in Jabba's palace before getting eaten by the rancor xD

Oola, one of the dancers in Jabba's palace on Tatooine, the one which falls through the trap door into the Rancor cave and gets eaten by the monster, she is actually green. But there are more dancers of different colors and species.

What did you amazing woman just do to me! Isn’t it enough to explain so much about lyrics, ways of singing (sorry for the bad expression, 5:47 AM atm)? No, you just push it by telling your living in Germany for about one year but you rather understand the lyrics very well seemingly and put much research into it. I’m just done, more channels should impress like you do!

I really appreciate how nerdy this song is. I also really love how they change up the tempo and levels of distortion depending on who is singing.
The green gal is a Twilek from Star Wars and I'm pretty sure the hologram girl is a reference to Total Recall.

You were just nerding about the star wars and star trek references and exactly the next few lines mentioned jedi knights and klingons. That was amazing.

Would love to see your reaction to Poets of the Fall's 'Jealous Gods', specifically the Alexander Theatre session! Been a fan of theirs for a little over a decade now, and Marko has some of the most soulful vocals I've ever heard. I really think you'd like them! Keep up the great content.

Hi! This channel is so informative and infectiously wholesome and I really really appreciate it. I’ve been trying to find a good request and think I’m gonna shoot for the song Constance by Spiritbox. If ya do, I would recommend the music video, just for the message to hit home…and their videos are really good. Warning it’s a tearjerker. But I think it worth :) wishing you and the folks who stop by a wonderful week. 🤘
