Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Tenacious D performing "Tribute" for the very first time.

I know you probably get this all the time, (but as i sincerly appreciate your videos and your reactions as from being raised in grunge and metal, its interesting to see what other scopes of musical life think about rock) (as a whole). Would you react to the band im vocalist for? See what you think? As someone so esteemed as yourself i personally would find it a privilege to have you do a natural real reaction if you had time to do so and wanted to delve into a wierd side of 'metal'. ua-cam.com/video/gLAB90yjJ00/v-deo.html

Tenacious D is criminally underatted. Wonderboy is one hell of a song to react too... almost like a ballad with the amazing comedy and wit in the writing as well
I agree. The entire album was so good too
Not underrated, underknown.
I dont know anybody who knows the D that doesnt really like them. So all you gotta do is spread the ... Word? Sound? Irrelevant. Do it :D
They are also wonderfully entertaining in concert. I’ve seen a few shows, they bring the same level of energy and playfulness live. Every single time.
They're not underrated as they have a significant fan base, and their last concept album wasn't that great and took a very long time to take off so Jack Black had to do a show on his kids youtube just to get anyone to find it because it was released on youtube and for a year or more barely anyone watched it.
They're great, but they're rated about where they should be now a days. They're not what this song is as artists anymore.
Jack Black is really leaning into being a dad and getting old in ways that make me sad, but that's probably selfish of me. He doesn't really have this level of energy anymore. He hurt himself on Conan practicing for a sketch just running into a doorway. 🤷♂️
Wonderboy ftw
This song actually came YEARS before pick of destiny was a thing. This song inspired the pick of destiny concept.
Facts!!! I owned the self titled first album it was amazing.
Absolutely love it! Smoking hot jams!
In the show which came before the album, the middle of the song was much different. The greatest song to them was Stairway to Heaven and they sang different lyrics on top of it. Definitely worth a watch if you haven’t seen it!
Indeed it did! I hate when people dont do some simple research, she could have googled mid song instead of making poor assumptions
I worked at a music shop in 2001 that had a cassette sampler of this. Listened over and over until the full LP was released, we all thought it was something special.
Seeing her genuinely geek out over the genius of the D made me happy. 20 plus yrs later still killin it
ikr? that squeal of joy is like how I felt first time hearing the D
The squeak of excitement. Gold
Fun fact: The microphone Jack is singing into can be clearly seen at 15:26 in the video. It is the broadcast version of the legendary Buchannon Hammer, The Electro Voice 664. The broadcast version has a matte finish so it would not shine in bright camera lights. It had a slightly different model number, the EV 666! We might say, "The Devil's microphone". Only a handful of viewers would have found that little "Easter Egg" but you know darned well, Jack and Kyle knew.
"we are not aiming for pretty here, we are aiming for FUN"
Is maybe the most fitting discriprion of Tenacious D ever. I love it }:D
@Matej Juhás its ok to like it now, its at some random number again
This man is a bard. He sings songs that tell stories. And his voice is just...amazing. he is charismatic. He is fun. His songs and stories reflect who and what he is.
There were never a truer description of a bard.
Facts.
And he can cast spells....
If they make a sequel to the DND movie, Jack Black should 100% be a Bard in it.
I just saw them in concert. Amazing!
And he can sing Led Zeppelin in original tone.
"Does Dave Grohl also play guitar?"
Yes. He also played everything on the first foo fighters album. Like everything.
Dave Grohl is an amazing person as well as an amazing musician. Love how he exposes young talent during Foo Fighters shows!
@@RaymondBCrisp And his Hot Ones episode is easily in the top 3 best! Seriously funny, insightful, and obviously incredibly dedicated and talented.
@@RaymondBCrisp So fucking amazing, he "killed" his own drummer by forcing him to get that clot shot.
@@fcuk_x Whatever man. I guess it had nothing to do with the 10 illicit substances they found in his blood stream, eh?
@@RaymondBCrisp I'd say that to if I was trying to push that crap to trust me I know personal experience that shot killed two people I know well that was fine before in there 30s and 40s they took the shot dead a few days later don't trust what i say then read where it says "experimental " good luck 😉
You'll be blown away if you dive into Dave Grohl's story. The man is an absolute GOD in music, no matter the genre. Nirvana, Foo Fighters, offered to be a Heartbreaker by Tom Petty, Dream Widow, Queens of the Stone Age, Tenacious D. The list goes on forever and the guy does everything for everyone and kills it every single time.
I think it would take less time to list the bands Dave Grohl's NOT in! 🤣🤣🤣 He's the King-- he's like a kid in a candy store who wants to play with EVERYONE, and they all want to play with him so he CAN!!! AND he's got mad bbq skills! 😁
And has jammed with every amazing rock star on the planet.
Also his book is really really really spectacular.
Dave Grohl is also just an awesomely humble and down to earth guy. He wrote a song called "The Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners" after he found out that one of the men who survived a mineshaft collapse was a fan of Foo Fighters as well.
Them crooked vultures too!!!
Dave Grohl’s pretty much my biggest inspiration, he was the first drummer I ever saw play on the internet, and now I’ve been a drummer since I was 7, plus Foo Fighters, Nirvana and Queens of the Stone Age are all some of my favourite bands (especially QOTSA)
This song came out 5 years before "The Pick of Destiny." They used this song as the inspiration for the movie.
I... Honestly thought it was closer to 10 years.... I did not realize it was that close... And I feel old now that it wasn't that far apart...... For.. Um... Other reasons. Yeah....
That's partly true. They had a really low budget tv show first, and there is where the characters, some songs and "Tenacious D lore" originally comes from if my memory serves me correct.
Copy-paste from wiki.
"Tenacious D is a television series that ran on HBO from 1997 to 2000. It features the fictional accounts of the real-life comedy rock duo Tenacious D, which is composed of members Jack Black and Kyle Gass. All of the episodes of the show are available on Tenacious D's The Complete Master Works DVD.[1][2][3][4][5]"
Came here just to say this. I thank you for your contribution.
They were also a pretty established gig band in LA before they got the HBO show, and a lot of songs were written before it, can't say which ones were or weren't.
The version on the HBO show basically is saying Stairway to Heaven is the “greatest song in the world” that they can’t remember. In the show version of the song the play a few of Stairway’s notes early on.
Actually, “Tribute” came first, and “The Pick of Destiny” is inspired by the song. The ending of the movie is to set the stage, by way of prequel, for the song.
Yes there is the original version with Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven.
ua-cam.com/video/uryLhOT9jiI/v-deo.html
It's amazing how the D have always known in their minds that they're the GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME. It was always awesome seeing them on Conan.
...and then there's the joke from the show, where the first version of tribute is literally stairway to heaven
Thats right.
Tribute is from 1997...maybe earlier
If you think about it "Beelzeboss" is the song they used to defeat the devil, so this is a tribute to that song.
100% true story of how it happened
Tenacious D is High Key the greatest band of all time

@@sand451 Hey
@@alextucker1163 Yo..
My favourite part about this is watching Elizabeth completely forget to do any vocal analysis and just have a great time watching this video. So, SO wholesome. 15/10 A+++ would watch again.
"Be ye angels? And we said 'nay, we are but men.' ROCK!" is my favorite lyric ever. But song has so many wonderful turns of phrase. "Shined a shiny demon" etc. So good.
I love the way Jack Black plays with sounds and his voice is super expressive. I think "The Metal" or "Wonderboy" are both great songs showcasing his talent, but if you want to die laughing, they have a skit called "Inward Singing" that you must listen to in your spare time. 🤯
serj tankian from system of a down is great at it
Wonderboy still my favorite
Wonder boy and tribute was my childhood
"The Metal" is by far and away one of the greatest metal songs, and the biggest pisstake of metal songs at the same time.
If there is one word to describe Tenacious D it would be "Irreverent". Love their work.
Wonderboy is just superb.
About Dave Grohl:
He can do everything... The first Foo Fighters album was recorded entirely by himself (every instrument), before the band actually exists...
Also, he did an amazing song called 'Play' which is 20+ minutes long with him playing lots of different instruments.
The guy is amazing!
What Adriano said... I was typing out basically the same this when I glanced down and seen this comment.
Play…. THE single greatest song of 2018
Agreed, came down to the comments to put the same thing, oh, and also he HAS to be the nicest guy in music!
Play is amazing. There was a website for it too. Not sure if it still online.
I have the LP version which has pictures and information on what he played.
Not just one drum kit or one bass guitar, but multiple around a large room.
Amazing song!
Lots of different instruments? He plays guitar, base guitar, an amateur one handed level of keyboard, and of course the drums, which is the only instrument he absolutely excells. But dont get me wrong, he is a musical genius.
Your giggle at 12:57 was absolutely adorable glad you got as much entertainment out of this song as I did when I first heard it many years ago.
Fun fact: Dave Grohl actually drums on the album version of all of Tenacious D's songs. They have a different drummer they use when they tour, but Dave's the one you're hearing here in addition to playing the demon.
Yeah Dave can play live on special occasions.
Fun fact: Dave Grohl actually played the demon in the video :)
No shit?? Listening back to it, I can hear it in the snare
Came to comments to make sure someone pointed out he's the drummer in this.
@@peterhardyburrell his snare hits have a special power behind them
Jack Black has an unexpectedly soulful voice. You wouldn't know from his speaking voice that this huge, cutting, soulful boom was hidden within it. Hugely underrated. He's the quintessential artist. He's good at just about every form of art there is. And he has such a unique way of combining his talents into one amazing package. JB is the man. Love his work.
ua-cam.com/video/mmcI9v3YGfg/v-deo.html
'Wonderboy', by Tenacious D, is a must-listen. JB shows an insane vocal range in that one, and KG does an incredible acoustic guitar solo. Great harmonies in there too.
+1 for mind bullets
i have a bad habit of attempting that on karaoke night...whiskey is not your friend ladies and gentlemen
@@JRSiebz That's telekinesis, Kyle.
Yes 'Wonderboy' was the first Tenacious D song I heard and I went and bought their album which I loved. Please do a reaction to 'Wonderboy.'
@@davidfuhr5455 We share the same bad habits, my friend.
Did you also notice Kyle was making normal "ah" sounds while Jack is riffing all over the place. I think part of their brilliance is that Kyle plays the "straight man" to Jack's insanity.
A good straight man is essential in comedy
Fun fact about Dave Grohl: He played and recorded every instrument by himself on the first Foo Fighters album, the man can do it all
Also if you haven't already, check out 'Wonderboy' by Tenacious D for another great song by them!
Not only that. The Foo Fighters also played Never Gonna Give You Up together with Rick Astley. Highly recommended to check it out.
Oh, and Wonderboy is absolutely and totally worth checking out.
He also rerecorded the entire drum track of every song on "colour and shape" after the drummer at the time wasnt good enough for him (pre taylor hawkins who was hired just after the recording of the album) dudes just a monster haha
One of the most amusing things for me about Dave's involvement in Pick of Destiny is that he's by far considered the NICEST man in the Rock, if not the whole Music inductry.
...And they made him play Satan. Actually Satan.
Not quite. Greg Dulli of The Afghan Whigs played guitar on X-Static.
he also released a disco album
The D is so underrated. Fantastic musicianship, singing and KG is a KILLER guitar player. The chord progressions are based on Stairway to Heaven, which they played in the HBO show. Long live the D!
In the immortal words of Stirling Archer: 'Uh, Phrasing!'
Coincidentally, Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins have a fantastic live version of Stairway that reminds me a lot of this
@@chainringcalf That guitar solo Grohl plays in it is just.... beautiful 🤣
Please do they're cover "you never give me your money"
"And we said nay, we are but men. ROCK!" This probably is one of the greatest songs in the world.

gosh dang, your happiness and joy and giggles are infectious, fantastic!! And spot on educational as heck, thank you for all the analysis
Your little squee at 12:57 was the most adorable thing! Your analyses/reactions always bring me so much joy!
If you loved Tenacious D's 'Tribute' and you want more, try 'Wonderboy' from the same album. There is more flipping between wistful ballad-style singing and manic narration for the story of Wonderboy and Young Nastyman joining forces, with more made-up word sound effects and crazy lyrics. And cosplay.
Crap, even better than that. I just saw them doing 'Time Warp', It's magnificent!
Came to suggest the same thing. Wonderboy is perfect!
I agree, she'd love Wonderboy. The video is epic
Damn yes! Wonderboy is Tenacious D at their peak
The first Tenacious D album is maybe the closest thing to a perfect comedy/rock album that’s been produced. It’s just so, so good.
THAT'S TELEKINESIS KYLE!!!
I still rate
"Nay, we are but men. ROCK" as one of the best drops ever.
"Does Dave Grohl play guitar?" Does he ever! I have no doubt he could play anything he wanted to.
Dave is basically Gen X's version of Paul McCartney
I believe the word is cock
You nailed it bro!!!

Their whole first album is un-ironically a masterpiece. Every song is great, funny, and doesn’t get old.
Also, just in case nobody mentioned it. Dave Grohl is the drummer on every Tenacious D album (possibly not their latest, haven’t looked it up yet)
But what about lee

Dave Grohl completely played all the instruments on Foo Fighters debut album. He's an amazing musician. And if you watch the Foo Fighters video of the song Learn to Fly, JB and Kyle are in there as well. They've been doing things together for a long time.
He's also been the drummer for Tenacious D on a lot of their live performances.
JB is in a few Foo fighters clips
That actually may not be far off from the truth. There was a song he talked about that the band was having issues getting in to record. So he played instruments and they mixed them. Then later the rest of the band came in and and actually recorded their parts
Low is the best foo fighters video ever. JB and DG are hilarious in it.
I'm not sure if I learn a lot about vocals from this person. But just how much joy she experiences... I love it. So contagious.
This is not the greatest reaction of the world. This is just a tribute!
Best comment haha
This should be a pinned comment
I was looking for this comment
@@meganstorm3248 wow you really know how to kill a joke
I like how Jack mixes the singing styles/techniques of DIO and some 90's grunge bands. He takes a little bit of everything from the bests.
Its like a smooth low key flex. Like he threw in some Blue Traveller just to say "hey guys remember them? I can do that too"
Agreed, and it seems like that is lost on a lot of listeners outside of the context of that time. It's a shame, because it really adds to the song.
Next time you do Tenacious D, totally recommend "Wonderboy." Some of Jack Black's best vocals in my opinion. Also "The Metal" is a great second choice just based on how fun the song is.
That's telekinesis, Kyle!
I don't have a very deep understanding of singing, but I think both of those songs are worth listening to in general. I think Jack Black sings well in both, but they're also just fun to listen to.
@@jjabberjaw8822 yeah and it seems that Elizabeth loved the goofy vocal effects and both songs have that 👍🏽

I can't even tell you how joyful it is watching you discover songs I have loved for a long time. It's like hearing them for the first time all over again and living vicariously through your unfiltered response. So lovely. I've heard this song so many times that I'd forgotten just how funny and charming it really is.
Dave Grohl is one of the most talented yet humble musicians of our time. His musical history is absolutely insane. My heart breaks for him for what he has gone through and is going through now
Indeed.
To echo that statement, he’s such a pleasant and genuine person. I had the rare and joyous opportunity to meet him a handful of years ago and “break bread” with him for a few moments. Hands down (aside from friends and family), favorite person I’ve met. I can’t fathom what he’s gone through
he had that one concert where he fell off stage and broke his ankle and finshed the show
And makes a mean lasagna
^This. I hope she does some videos on Dave soon. He's hands down one of the greatest musicians ever and such an awesome guy all around. I can't imagine what he's going through right now though. he just lost another best friend far too soon. It's been a few weeks and I still can't believe Taylor is gone... 😢
"Dave, which instruments do you play?"
Dave Grohl: "Yes."
Dave started Foo Fighters as a one man project and a band wasn't put together until it was time to tour. He plays both drums and guitar on "Tribute". You should really give Foo Fighers a listen, imho! As for Tenacious D - Jack Black is just pure gold in anything he does and together with Kyle Gass it's just a perfect combination for great humor!
I came here to say the same thing. HA!
Coolest thing too is that he's a complete natural. He has said himself that he doesn't know the name of chords, read music etc. He just does what sounds good :D
I'm pretty sure he doesn't play guitar on tribute. Drums yes.
I'd recommend earlier Foo Fighters (times like these and prior), only because Dave's voice wasn't shot yet.
Second this!!!
This song is an homage to Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin.
You can hear the final notes of Stairway at the end of the song, and the pre-chorus of "..and we played the first thing that came to our heads..." follows the same 3 chord progression from the ending of Stairway (Am, G, F)
The guitar solo is also the solo form Stairway.
It’s a tribute man. Not an homage!
In the original version on the HBO show they actually play the acoustic intro to Stairway. I highly recommend checking that show out if you love TD
@@theroadhomefromwrestling1788 I used to watch an amature guitarist when he played gigs, and he played this song and he would end it with the second last verse of stairway. "and as we wind on down the road" it was such an epic song
With due respect, at least according to Wikipedia, this song was actually inspired by Metallica's song, "One"...although the compositional similarities to Stairway are quite obvious.
Wikipedia is user-edited and fluid. However, the reference to the song "One" with regard to this TD tune has endured on Wikipedia's description and back story of "Tribute" for at least 7 years.
So I'm left with the impression that, although the song is obviously Zeppelin-derivative, it is actually dedicated to Metallica's "One".
Were TD's comments regarding this song satirical? I'm not even sure
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribute_(song)
@@joelneatrour1945 When they played Tribute live in concert, they end it with the vocal line from Stairway to Heaven, but with different lyrics
Your squeal when they do the a capella riff SLAYS me... in a good way. What's not to love about it?!
In my head canon, the song should continue with that bit on a loop.
Dave Grohl is a legend. And "does he play guitar" - he plays everything. :) He did the first Foo Fighters album solo, playing all the instruments and singing. I think it took him a week to do the whole album. :)
He never interned to actually sell the album or make the band. It was a passion project of his to help him cope with the death of Kirk Cobain.
@@MrGhosta5 One of the best stories I've ever heard is when Dave Grohl met Lemmy. Look up Dave Grohl at Lemmy's funeral for the story.

I have always said if tenacious d came out in the 70's, they would have been in the same convo as led zeppelin. Lots of fantasy in the writing, great playing, vocal range, etc. But I love how talented they are, and still use comedy to enhance it all!

Fun fact. They released this song 5 years BEFORE they released Pick of Destiny.
I think every track from their first album is referenced in some way in the movie. Even the chapter cards are based on Tarot cards, like the album cover
Ya, the movie references this album which references the TV show. 😄
Thank you for saying that! I was so confused every time she mentioned the movie… I was like, I could have SWORN the movie came much later, but it was so long ago I wasn’t sure.
I would have guessed waaaay more than 5 years, but that is probably because it took me over a decade to finally get around to watching pick of destiny.
Yep. And they filmed multiple versions of "Tribute" before the final version with Dave Grohl.. who later reprised his role as Satan in Picl of Destiny.
Jack Black is one of the most underrated singers today: his voice has a timbre that sounds almost like he has more than one voice singing at the same time, and man can he belt it out. Did you notice all of the vocal transitions during the giggle fee section? Plus the man has so much energy!
The way you stuck your tongue through your teeth, shrilled and giggled in reaction after their “mini-Classico” part, was the epitome and embodiment of pure joy and happiness. Ben Stiller actually appears in the movie, as the guitar center guy.
Again: I adore your reactions, you're such a natural bundle of joy!
and tim robbins 🤣
Watching someone who actually knows music get as much joy out of this as I (a mere dilettante) is extremely validating.
Great reaction on a great channel from a great Lady.
I feel the same way, especially when she gives TOOL such high praise
Jack Blacks voice is honestly just amazing. I keep wanting him and KG to do an entire album of covers as there's a couple 1minute 50seconds videos of him doing Chris Isaacs Wicked Games and Seal Kiss from a Rose and honestly they're worth viewing!
second that! Please check these out :D
Dave is without exaggeration, one of the best musicians on this planet. He's a treasure.
Also deaf.
He plays everything by now I bet
@@Frysterman not true. He still hears the music just fine. It's voices he has trouble with.
I felt physical pain with the amount of knowledge she lacks about Dave. Does he play guitar? HOW DOES ANYONE NOT KNOW THAT? But seriously I love this channel and she should do some Foo

The absolutely funniest part of the fligigu section is when you’ve heard it 10,000 times and you finally recognize what Kyle is doing the whole section.
Ah, a fellow enjoyer of fligu gigu 10 hours? Lol
@@pcareo-dactyl3327 Well I wasn't before but now I have to look for that. I've just listened to this song way too much.
Literally Thanks to this comment just paid attention to Kyle and it's amazing!!!
Fun Fact: It was such a big Collab that if you watch Foo Fighter's Learn to Fly you will see Jack & Kyle doing their own cameos in their music video. Also almost every other character in the video is played by the band members, many times over.
Learn to fly is such a great video
Jack Black is also in Foo Fighters' video for Low. Video is hilarious if you haven't seen it.
That little old lady is in the band?
I’ve just found your channel and this video. I saw Tenacious D live several years ago, and they were hands down one of the best concerts I have ever been to. Not only do I love their music, it was like a mini stage production throughout the whole show. If they ever tour again, would 100% go and see them again.
IF you want more Tenacious D's i would highly recommend Tenacious D - The Metal
Seconded. Came here to suggest she look at that one next. Or their cover of The Last In Line.
i just heard the intro in my head haha thanks! :')
Thirded. Awesome song.
Yes!
If you want to analyse more Jack Black songs, how about the School of Rock grand finale "Rock Got No Reason"?
good idea....
I'm almost sure this song is not from Tenacious D.
@@TheMeleagan I'm not suggesting it is :)
Lazy you are my favorite

Others have suggested "The Metal" by Tenacious D and I CANNOT AGREE MORE!! It is EPIC!!! DOOO EEEIIT!!
Indeed. Also "Master Exploder" vocal and hilarity-wise.

You're such an amazing reactor. There should be a channel dedicated to reacting to your reactions. Better be a great one though..
I love how extra and expressive you are. It comes so natural. Really a joy to watch!
I truly LOVE watching your reactions. They are so raw. When you get all giddy, like with this video, sad or melancholy you can actually feel it through the screen. Not everyone can show what they feel from music or the lyrics. You, my dear can. Thank you.
The allusions to Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven in this song (in both the lyrics and the harmonies/chords) are genius. Makes me think they want to hint that that's the best song in the world. ;)
Have you heard the original TV show version of Tribute?
Allegedly the actual "greatest song in the world," that this is supposed to be a Tribute to, despite the allusions to Stairway to Heaven, is One by Metallica.
In the original version, they play the stairway riff. I heard at the time that Zepplin's lawyers were not happy.
@@beld9670 Lawyers seldom are, hallmark of the breed
Also lyrical homage to "Faeries Wear Boots". Ya just gotta believe me..on this.
As you listen to the style of lyrics, cord changes, vocal harmony and expression you can see it really is a tribute to MANY classic rock songs.
The irony is, Tribute actually IS the greatest and best song in the world!
ever heard the live version where Stairway to Heaven is actually "the greatest song in the world"?
Side note: yes, Dave Grohl is a supremely multifaceted musical genius 😁
Why does he make such mediocre music though?
@@meganega123 thats your opinion mate
@@mickyy5798 There is always one person in the comments who can't grasp the fact that we all hear and react to music in different ways.
@@mickyy5798 Not opinion, his stuff is very simplistic and repetitive. In his recent visit to Hot Ones he had multiple times in the interview where he said he couldn't play other songs or couldn't believe how good some other drummers were, like the dude from The Police. The dude is no Larnell Lewis, not by a long shot. It's fine if you like his music, but you need a reality check if you think Foo Fighters is technically anywhere in the same Galaxy as Gojira, Devin Townsend, Mastodon, Leprous, Tool or tons of other bands.
@@Eric998765 no very much so thats his opinion of saying its mediocre music
Jack and KG actually have such fantastic voices. Saw them in concert right after this album came out. It was incredible.
Find the live show they did for some comicon, or I think it was for a software companies employees. Dave Grohl drums. It's epic!! It's on UA-cam.
@@ripn929707 thank you! That sounds awesome! LOVE Dave!
@@wickedwings7611 I watched it again last night. It's the Blizzcon show.
You should do a reaction to the Foo Fighters honestly, Dave Grohl is kind of a legend. The man's incredibly talented. It's hugely tragic that their drummer recently passed away. RIP Taylor Hawkins.
You should do an analysis so Taylor Hawkins singing Somebody to Love
Dave Grohl did the whole first Foo Fighters album himself. Both guitars, drums, singing, all of it. His way of processing Kurt's death partly.
Honestly surprised she hasn't uet
They released a cover of "Wicked Game" a few months ago and Jack Black's voice in it is phenomenal, even if its under 2mins.
I've been rocking to Tenacious D for 20+ years and it's just as good now as it was then. JB has one of the most versatile voices out there. He puts his whole heart into every song.
Dave Grohl is one of the nicest, best, funniest en most talented persons at this moment. He is always cheerful, open, enthusiastic, and just a straight-up cool and good guy. You should check out some Foo Fighters music, but also Dave as a person. He has had a rough life, lost his frontman and good friend 30 years ago en just recently lost his drummer and best friend Taylor Hawkins.
I don't know...I heard he drop-kicked a puppy once
Dave has an album that was recently released where he does everything in it.

One of Jack Black’s best pure singing examples (outside of “Wonderboy”) is in the song “F*** Her Gently”, but there’s no way that’ll ever be on this channel.
oh boy
Definitely would get shot down 🤣 but live that song
You can still find it somewhere on net.. i have seen it..
@@dimantsz still plenty of instances of it on UA-cam

But that would be epic if it was.
The absolute absurdist joy of having Jack Black singing silly verses with so much operatic conviction
That was so beautifully said
I love The D!! Jack Black has one of the most underrated voices, he's so incredibly talented. love it!
sounds kinky.
I think Kyle's support when Jack sings the fligagoo thing is underrated.
Kyle in general doesn't get the credit he deserves imo. Saw him with Kyle Gass Band 2013 it was great
He sounded like he was utilizing inward singing techniques there
This was their first ever single! I remember being obsessed immediately and we had to wait an excruciating 5 years for The Pick of Destiny. I still have the collector's edition of The Pick of Destiny cd that came with a replica pick of destiny and tarot cards
yo thats cool af
Their first single was Wonderboy. For some reason Google says it was Tribute but WB came out 5 months before.
I play guitar with that pick. How could you not?
The way you say Kickapoo is just so adorable. I love watching your journey through heavy metal and rock and roll. Especially loved watching you and your husband host Will Ramos and shoving a mic down his throat lol. Awesome channel. Keep it up
Dave Grohl is one of the best pure musicians in the last 25 years. He does guitar, drums, and vocals at a very high level
He's not a great guitar player but his riffs make up for it. A riff master.
I'm thinking that actually in this video is not Dave Grohl. He plays on drum, guitar, ad do singing and played The Devil in the movie, but this guy is a stunt, isn't?
@@makattak88 fair, maybe a jack of all 3. Not the best at any, but damn good at all 3
Dave Grohl also played drums for the D on their 1st album that this song is on. He's contributed to every album i believe.
He played with them live when I saw them in Washington DC in 2006
I just LOVE how she’s nerding out to the whole song… it’s just a pure love for the music!
I love the outside the booth view. Totally captures the juxtaposition between what you're hearing as the recording artist with the backing tracks blasting in your ears and what the rest of the world hear at that moment.
Just like singing with your headphones on 😅
“Wonderboy” is an incredible song by them, I get chills every time I listen to it. Those two are prime examples of why music videos did little good for music. They make it work because they went comedy, but their talent would otherwise be wasted because they’re just not young/sexy/cool enough for most producers to give ‘em a chance. How much amazing music has been lost to us because of mtv…
Also watching your facial expressions and clear joy was so much fun. Like reliving my first experience seeing this video again. I couldn’t help but grin goofily as you jumped with wide-eyed delight at my favorite parts 🥰
We have GOT to get a Jack Black interview on this channel!
im pretty sure you just need to share this to him on twitter and he will be on next week
I was spoiled as this was my introduction to Tenacious D, many years ago. Love your pure levels of joy & excitement in this analysis. And yes, it was Ben Stiller. :-D
IIRC Ben Stiller directed the music video.
Seeing the utter enjoyment you have watching this has made me so ridiculously happy and giggly. I've loved Tenacious D for decades but this just makes me flibbitty giggity goo with joy seeing how much you are getting from this and also hearing your technical knowledge about it puts it at a whole nother level. Thank you for showing us your joy!
I don't think anyone will understand this feeling as those that rocked out to this song when it came out
Video and all
Felt like magic. I floated every time my brother played I for me
This song is the perfect child of Stairway to Heaven and The Devil Went Down to Georgia. The ending arpeggio is right out of Stairway, as is the song Kickapoo. Dave Grohl in Foo Fighters plays guitar, writes, sings, and of course he's a drummer. Between Nirvana and Fighters, he once composed and recorded an album in days all by himself, and performed every part. Voice and instruments. The man is something else.
The original version on their HBO show made the Stairway influence even more obvious
Not to mention Dave was in one of the most underrated supergroups, them crooked vultures
And not to forget his part as drummer in one of the best albums Queens of the Stoneage ever produced. Including the all time classic 'No One Knows'.
It is still mind blowing how many great musicians they got for the Pick of destiny.
But in the end it shows how down to earth many rock musicians are. I love everything about this.
The D hold such a special place in my heart. I know all of their songs and old HBO episodes by heart. However, believe me when I say that watching you react to this video was one of the best Tenacious D experiences I have ever had!! I laughed along with you and felt so much joy watching you experience their wit and music the way you did. There's a fan interview you must watch where JB and KG come out and surprise the fans by playing their favorite song, you will love it it's absolutely amazing!! Love what you do, keep up the amazing work!
I was excited for you to reach the Fligoo-gig-ooh bit and you didn’t disappoint! 😂😊
Back when my husband was in a pub-covers band I would put together lyric & chord sheets, proofing the online lyrics and adding the backing vocals. This song was both the hardest and the most fun to transcribe and always went down a treat! And if the set went well, F*ck Her Gently made a great encore - they even played it at the singer’s sister’s wedding! 🤣
One if Jack Blacks great things is being good enough with music to do parodies of them and you recognize what he’s playing with. The fligoo part feels like a little “hey remember when we all liked Blues Traveller?”
Dave Grohl is one of only a hand full of people inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame 2x for two different bands while having completely different rolls in each band.
Rolls?
@@The_Kirk_Lazarusof course. He wouldn’t be having the same rolls in Foo Fighters as he had with Nirvana. It was years later, those rolls would have been either stale or moldy by then. Great way to get food poisoning.
@@The_Kirk_Lazarus yes, Cinnamon rolls!!
Your expressiveness is such a delight during your listens and analysis. Watching you, for lack of a better term, 'eargasm' during select moments of songs always makes me cackle and nod cause I quite often agree with the reaction! :D Love it.
"Eargasm" , that's the most awesome word that I've heard in years.
