- I take a look at my latest knife from Case...the 6.5 BoneStag Medium Texas Toothpick. Even if you're not a fan of the pattern, you might want to stick around for my thoughts on the way Case does its "6.5 BoneStag"
I've been collecting Case 6.5 Bonestag for about 10 years now, it looks great and doesn't cost as much as the real stuff.
Buzz Parker - who’s dad owned W.R. Case back in the day - said they added the point five (.5) on the tang so the knives couldn’t be sold on the secondary market as genuine stag antler.
6.5 Bonestag is probably my favorite Case handle material. Thanks for the comparisons.
I'm much more impressed with it now that I saw it in person. They do an amazing job with it.
I watched this video and wholeheartedly agree I have several 6.5 Bonestag knives and they are fantastic My Gunstock is so beautiful one would swear it was polished stag

Indeed the bonestag looks exactly like the real stag. I already was convinced Case did a great job at handle materials, but this is a very good excample. I like to use the toothpicks for fishing, cleaning etc. and the light pull is not any problem for that. Thank you for the review Tobias.

As you know, I like bigger toothpicks, but I also very much like stag. But there’s certainly stag and stag! I’ve a video coming up soon that compares three stag Ettricks by three Sheffield makers. Three qualities of stag, treated in three different ways, at three different price points.
I do have a couple each of Case and RR bone stag knives. Like you, I think they can be ‘better’ than some Stag, but certainly not all!
Finally, I don’t buy GECs, but one of my very rare exceptions is the #12, though mine’s in aqua giraffe bone. It’s a lovely, and very practical steak knife!

The stag bone looks good. When you compared the Case blade to the GEC it reminds me why I love the copperhead pattern. It basically has both the toothpick blade and a standard clip blade.
I love stag antler and bone.
Hi Tobias, I just ordered the Case small center swell jack in Caribbian blue saw cut. Hope it looks as nice in person as the picture. I would like to get some bone stag in my collection too. I like the RR cinamon bone stag I got the Barlow with it.

Tobias I agree that Case’s 6.5 Bonestag is usually a near equivalent of genuine stag so much so I own several examples of it However due to the influence of this video I rushed out to Cabelas and bought a Bareheaded Teardrop so there you go! Happy Easter

Case knives will have “Phantom” spring gaps -looks like a gap but no light leaks through.

That bone stag looks very good. The number 12 GEC is my favorite toothpick knife. Luckily I bought it when it was new & available at dealers.
For most of my toothpick knives, they are the small ones & I use those mainly for cleaning other knives. That little blade gets into places a bigger knife can't get.
I think it's just because we have a tradition of different blade shapes in our knives, but even if i have a few toothpicks i love it seems to me that they are somehow too thin to work with (i am 99% sure that they will work just as well as other knives). BTW a nedium sized nice Muskrat like blade is invaluable to separate the meat from the bones of a dry cured ham, something our beefier pocket and kitchen blades can't do that well.
Is the "toothpick" blade design actually meant for any special activity ? For skinning or something? Thats a beautiful knife.
Yes, It's a small game knife. The blade is the same as the blades found on the Muskrat. The larger versions were used as a bird and trout knife.

Looks great to me! I'm up to 7 medium toothpicks, one of which is a Case, and another one which might be real stag but I can't really tell. Great video!👍
I'm really more into the large but I do have t admit the medium make more sense for many carrying situations, especially where blade size is limited by law.
I would love to see a Toothpick halfway between the Case and the GEC, wishful thinking but be a grat user.
The difference in Stag covers is tough to see without seeing a lot of it on knives. That can be said for the imitations too. Sometimes just buying a Stag cover knife is a letdown if you don’t see what you are getting.
Bone Stag can be made to look better than some of the real thing from a distance. But; looked at closely you can see the difference if you know what real Stag looks like most times. The word Stag adds value to any knife. But; just like Diamonds there is a vast difference in values.
The really best Stag doesn’t come on the average production knife. But; sometimes it does; and that makes that knife a super valuable one. It is easy to miss the word bone; when buying a knife that isn’t real stag.
I have an old Camillus knife with Stagalon covers; that looks really nice. But; if was real Stag; I wouldn’t likely been able to buy it.
I see Case is removing one dot from top line and then one from the bottom line to show the production year. That seems different from past practices when they used all dots. Do you happen to know anything about that? 🧐❔✨
Just curious, what's the main difference between a large or medium toothpick and a single blade trapper. They look similar and on the surface they could fill the same roll.
A slim line Trapper is a hair shorter that a medium toothpick. Beyond that it’s the handle shape.

Yes it does. Not extremely strong but stronger. So 5-6.

lovely bone stag or is it stag bone , the blade may be a little long for the UK , i just bought a case barlow in real stag two blade variant , absolutely the biz , i might give the bone stag a go if yours is anything to go by , must say you are a font of knowledge and i always check in with you if I'm thinking of picking up something new to me , give my best to kitty and skip , t t f n , p
Thanks for the video. I’ve been wondering, Is there a difference between a Texas toothpick and a toothpick? Is it a size based name or interchangeable? Can they ever have serpentine handles or only powder-horn? What differentiates a Navaja or laguiole from a toothpick?
I think it is just the name Case uses to describe it's Texas Toothpick

No, not really. Like actual stag, the sides are rarely symmetrical.
