Domestic Manners of the Americans: Case Large Texas Toothpick (610098 SS)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 чер 2011
- The name „Toothpick" was jokingly applied to many large knives, but only the name „Texas Toothpick" became the name of a well-known folding knife pattern. „Texas Toothpick" is not the only name for this kind of traditional knife. It is also called „Tickler", „Powderhorn", „Dance Knife", „Dixie Switch" or „Dixie Razor".
Watch the video and find out what the title "Domestic Manners of the Americans" is all about.
Thanks for watching! - Розваги
Great information. I was just looking for some footage of the knife pattern while I decided if I wanted to buy one. I stayed for the history lesson.
Thank you for your kind words!
Thank you for the smart and well done videos. Your manner of speaking is very pleasant and your historical notes, interesting.
Great review! Just subscribed! Am stuck on Case and USA Kershaw product. Favorite Twain quote:
"It's not that there's too many idiots in the world...
It's that there's not enough lighting."
Looking forward to more! ⚔
I hope that this brings a faint smile to your face when i say that you are costing me money. And im lovin every minute of it. Danke for your fun and informative videos.
After seeing this I began to look for a Case Large Toothpick and was able to buy one for a low price and clean it up Now it is worth quite a bit However I will never sell it and one of my children will inherit it
@TheLazySpoiledKitty Thanks for watching, Caspar!
I loved this series on Case Knives sir
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
@AussieMark909 Thank you, Mark! - I'm very happy that RoscoeBa joined me on this video.
Growing up in Texas we all had toothpicks. I got my first one when I was 11 years old,my first.22 when I was 9 and my first shot gun when I was 10. I also shot my first grouse when I was 10.
Thanks so much for compiling all this excellent information in one great channel!
I love your reviews, I own a smaller version of this knife.
That is a beautiful knife. Thank you for bringing all these knives to us.
@Guru1ofatl Thank you!
Beautiful knife and a great review, plus interesting history.
@discrepancy666 Thanks for watching!
@RoscoeBa I'm so glad that you were immediately willing to support me. Thank you so much, Roz! Great job!
what a great video that was, thank you very much!
thank you for this video !
Excellent review Stefan! My granddad always had one of these when we would go fishing in Aransas Pass, TX
I came across your videos a few days ago. They are well made, and love your German perspective. Great job and very informative!
Thank you very much!
these are my favorite knives.
@edgedweapon88 Thank you for your very kind words, Keelen!
Another outstanding review, Stefan! I really enjoyed the cameo by roz! The Texas toothpick is my favorite patterns from Case. Thanks for sharing this with us.
@H3LLSHOCK Thank you!
Absolutely beautiful!!!
@MrJimbofox Thank you, Jimbo! - Roz immediately was willing to help me with this video project when I asked her. And she did a fantastic job!
I'm looking forward to your Case knife review!
Gorgeous color on that one...all three of the knives you showed in this video are quite intriguing.
Terrific video of a very interesting knife. The blue jigged bone is stunning! Very much liked the reading at the end.
Great vid, great knife , .Really like your documentary style. Nice guest performance too.
Looking forward to the next one!
Once again an excellent video thank you for taking the time research and produce your videos. Great Job!
Too bad case dnt make large t/p’s no more. I like the big ones, as i can “get~a~grip” on the thing. Luv Case knives🔪🔪🇺🇸
@Phitalian It's part of the locking mechanism.
Outstanding. If you enjoy those Samuel Clemens stories - you would enjoy visiting Hannibal Missouri - they have great, well-preserved buildings & displays of Twain's world.
I like the older style of toothpick Colonial and Case used on their fishing knives.
Another excellent and informative video.
Great vid. The book reading at the end was great.
@ometodo1 Thank you!
Awesome vid and great guest spot from, Roz, dude. That was a nice surprise. I have a case knife one of my great buddies here on YT gave me and I'm gonna do a review on it soon. Thanks for this vid, Stefan.
I was cutting up a steak with a pocket knife at a steakhouse here in Georgia USA and then I noticed that the waitress started to avoid my table, so than I go to her and ask for the check and she just runs off. So then I go to a waiter and ask him to ask her what the issue is and then he goes and talks to her and he comes back and says "I'm just going to give you the check instead." so the next time I go there she is the one seating people and she must have remembered me because she walked away and I waited about 15 minutes and she still didn't show up. so I just left and haven't been there since. it's a shame, I really liked their food.
Schroeder_2000 why would you use a pocket knife at a steakhouse? Did they not provide cutlery?
-runswithbeer- They do, but they aren't as sharp as one of my pocket knives.
It is very commom in the countryside of Spain, France or Italy to see peasants eating with theyr folding knives in restaurants or the train.
WOW I could see that happening here in California. But Georgia? I have to be cautious where I pull out my knife cause I dont want to freak people out when im cutting my apple.
@pelahale Yes, one day I want to visit Hannibal.
Very interesting review Stefan, i did not know any of that before this video :).
@troy5690 Thank you, Troy!
What a beautiful video, Stefan! I am honored to have been part of it! :)
Looks like you are living in a knife museum these days, Stefan. And I like your new habit of obsessively wiping the blades after you touch them. :o)
Lovely knife. The largest I have is a 4", but that’s at least street legal here in the uk. By the way, her name is, perhaps surprisingly, pronounced with a silent ‘e’ at the end, just the same as the insult!
Another great video, I own the small texas tooth pick by Case knives. I use it as my EDC knife. I've used it for cutting packing tap, opening letter and hotdog packages. Love the shape, nice and small. Mine also has the blue scales. Thanks for sharing. I see your a book lover maybe you can share some of your favite books.
@masterknifecollector Cool! Thanks for sharing! ;-)
Hey what kind of sheaths can you use for a medium version on this, I can't seem to find one anywhere
@abbath1586 Large Texas Toothpicks from Case can easily be found in online knife shops.
You must've had some very good luck with Case knives. I've had tons of trouble with their fit and finish. Everything from wobbly blades and mismatched scales, to blades that are so off center they rub against the liners. I do have a Case tiny toothpick however that I like.
@modelearth Torx screwdriver? (Btw, your comment is off-topic.)
Awesome video!
I`ve been planning on getting a toothpick for some time now and always wondered where the name comes from!
I hope i get to buy one of these now... I always forget about it when I am at the knife store :)
hey mate,
any tips on how too loosen the boker subcom 42? its VERY stiff, thanks!!
The GEC#12 toothpick knife is back in production !
@tendollarword Thanks for this historical background information! - I can't tell you anything about the durability because I bought my Case knives only a few weeks ago.
where can i find this knife? i keep only finding the small texas toothpick
@bladeblabber Thanks for the info!
this reivew is PRO to the max. ty
but OMG MAN !! OMG !! im in love with this lil navaja.. and i cant find it..
can you tell me anything about it, so i can try look for it ?
plz kind sir.
I'm glad to hear that at least some Americans have refined their manners and habits over time. ;-)
Funny, I always called it a fishing knife. They often come with a second blade for scaling fish.
@stschmalhaus thanks, and yes i am aware of that. but i did not want to trawl to find your video on the boker subcom
What was that clip thing on the back of that Spanish knife?
Great video, Stefan! I've always wondered what the history of 'toothpick' was (as far as knives are concerned of coursed). Now I know, thanks to you.
That female voiceover sounded like Roscoeba.
@teekay989 I edc all knives that are legal to carry in Germany (Spyderco UKPKs, Spyderco Urban, EKA Swede 8, SAKs, etc.). All other knives I use in and around my home (food prep, cutting cardboard, etc.). As for the Case knives, you are right, I rarely use them.
What is the name of the company that made that navaja?
I've been to the Case website and I haven't been able to find a large one. My grandfather had one and gave it to me and brutal condition. Do they large versions anymore?
@Tardisius I guess, using fish-hooks is far more civilized than using pocket knives. LOL
Oh Hansel ... Gretel been looking for you
Are you ok?
I did a review on the Canoe pattern.
The knives you show appear to be in "collectible" condition. What, if any, knives do you use/carry on a regular basis?
@Cz1385 Now you have.
Doesn't everyone pick their teeth with knives? Just kidding! Great review.
I have the small Buck tooth pick.Except for opening letters or small packages I see no use of it.As for the large one here, the Slim trapper is a more practical alternative.
Franny Trollope spoke of the very same behavior (of the American male) that was responsible for the winning of WWII and the rebuilding of Europe and Japan. Basically she was saying that American males "Get er Done"...if only she could be so lenient as to allow "slang".
Those blue case knives are absolutely gorgeous in color! If someone ever fought with one their opponent would likely have stopped to ask if they could examine such a gorgeous blade with such a fetching handle! I am an American from the midwest and I can assure you that spitting, picking your teeth or eating purely with knives is no longer acceptable, except perhaps on a camping trip, far from society, with no women present.
Always wanted me an Arkansas toothpick with about a 15 or 16 inch blade
Interestingly, I've witnessed people with far worse eating behaviors in family style restaurants of London, Paris, Amsterdam, and small towns in the countryside. I'm just too polite to point them out or write about them cuz I got class.
If the blade is not 5" long , it is not a real Texas toothpick. I own a Schatt & Morgan amber "whiskey" bone knife. It is over 15 years old and it cost me $90 last year. Worth every dime too.
5" closed !
I have always heard Bowie knives called Arkansas toothpicks. I have a buck small toothpick
@ATF6281914 If you had watched the video to the end you wouldn't need to guess... ;-)
@stschmalhaus
I stopped mere seconds before that. But damn, I know Roz's voice!
Whats the french knife called?
It's a Laguiole by Laguiole en Aubrac.
Stefan Schmalhaus THANK YOU SIR 👍👍👍
@toothANDclaw13 It's the Spanish company Joker.
I imagine table manners on the early 19th century frontier WERE pretty rough, but I can also see that those rivermen may have exagerated their uncouthness to horrify the stuffy, proper Englishlady for their own amusement.
@mrmonkeyman50 OMG another obsession I didn't know I had.
Voracious rapidity....seized and devoured...uncouth phrases...loathsome spitting...the whole blade seemed to enter into the mouth...cleaning the teeth afterwards with a pocket knife....Someone was spying through my window during Thanksgiving.
Nice review and reading by Roz.
Is Spanish the word navaja means pocket knife....cool video... Rich
The name of this knife may be a comment on the domestic manners of Americans or perhaps a indication of what Americans in general think of Texans?
So Franny Trollope was right ... ;-)
@inquisitivewolf LOL
i found this video and the gec whaler very enlightening
Fanny my apologies.
hahaha .. with a name like fanny trollope .. I dont think she needs to be talking trash about anyone .. hahaha
Actually, this Navaja is a low quality knife from the Spanish manufacturer Joker. Check out joker (dot) es! - There are better Navajas. Google for the Spanish cutlery companies Exposito and Muela.
★★★★★
I never buy case , overpriced and you are just paying extra for the name.Just give me a reliable BUCK.
Talking about uncouth pronounciations, the anglosaxon way of pronouncing "viands" always leaves me with my mouth open and my eyebrows raised.
