@@mariahillenbrand8396you’re correct in saying to never leave the suspect unattended for a variety of reasons, but cops leave the cars running because of the equipment inside of it. They’re not typically too worried about cop cars getting stolen since they’re heavily marked and tracked.
No one is getting away in a stolen cop car. They’ll be caught, whether it’s dead or alive.

When l was a cop l carried an extra set of car keys. When l had to keep my squad running, l locked the doors. In 22 years never had my squad stolen. Common sense.

Two things. I don’t care what my department says, you’re not getting in the front. And 2. Squadron vehicles should have certain things you can press and in order to start driving the vehicle like they have on coach buses. You gotta push a series of buttons and the gear shift in order to drive off.
