The video at 16:50 is from the Nashville Covenant school shooting, not Uvalde. Officer Collazo (whose body cam footage is shown) was NOT part of a failed police response. He was instrumental in the takedown of the shooter and rushed in to the school in one of the best examples we've seen of a calm, coordinated, unhesitating response.

The worst part is that they are not required to intervene in the shooting. The SCOTUS ruled the police do not owe the private individual any protection. Google Warren vs District of Columbia, Gonzalez vs Castle Rock and Deshaney vs Winnebago DHS. All three are tragic but the second one opened my eyes because the court ordered protective orders are basically worthless. The last is sad because even though the abuse was reported DHS and law enforcement did absolutely nothing to protect the victim, even though there were multiple reports from doctors and hospital staff. While the first one tells us that unless you are in custody or a witness in protective custody the police are there to investigate crimes after they happen or to protect the public at large only. 😢 It's a sad state of affairs that you're responsible for your own safety and at the same time the government wishes to remove the best tools available being removed from use out of fear of the one group who doesn't use them wrong.

I was in 7th grade when that happened, it was scary. The reason we were all so shaken was because the day before there was a police chase that day. The robbers who were armed drove into the school parking lot and one of the gunman fired shots dropped the gun and ran outside of my class room I saw him from under my desk and then a police officer tackled him. Sadly shootings like those are on the rise and they still happen mostly in the USA, in my country we've had only one school shooting for the entire duration of our country existence.
The way we handle guns here is that you are allowed to have one if you keep it in a safe with your ammunition stored in a separate safe and had been member of a shooting/hunting club for an extended time. (> 5 years) There's also regular mental checkups and house inspections for those who own firearms.
I don't need a gun to be safe, neither do my neighbors and because we know we can't really be shot at we dare to correct and educate one another more often from which we all learn. This is what makes tourists perceive our country as generally nice & open minded

To say the Uvalde response was met with controversy is the understatement of the year. That was sheer incompetence. You could tell by the interactions on body cam, none of those people had proper training, nor were vetted to become police officers to begin with. Any one of those first responding officers could have ended it. But then again, that would have risked their lives, and we can't have that. Disgusting.

The uvalde shooting hit me hard because I traveled through there from time to time as a truck driver. It’s roughly 2 1/2 hrs from my hometown. The shooter was heading towards the high school but ended crashing near the elementary school and the school went into a lockdown, unfortunately the teacher who witnessed the ordeal going down, did not fully closed the doors where the shooter breached in. Law enforcement officers were held back from entering by the chief of police, while officers were stating “we gotta go in there now” as they heard shots fired from inside the classroom. A border patrol agent borrowed a shotgun from a barber where he was getting a haircut, was the one who charged in and dealt with the suspect. The agent did suffer a deep bullet grace on his head. The chief was later dishonorably fired from the department due to incompetence and cowardice.

Lots of people come from broken violent homes and never do something terrible like this.
When i was 8 my naked mom high on meth came in and screamed at me and my brother and I became an Armed Security Officer. So you can come back from any upbringing.

Sometimes I blame the Media for this Mass shootings because they give them "Names", talks only about the shooters, who are they, where they born at, I mean backgrounds of the shooter, they sensationalize the names of the shooters. It sometimes looks like they glorify the attacker by giving them valuable airtime, share their manifestos, their letters, their Facebook posts. They should tell the real stories - the stories of the victims, the heroes and the communities who come together to help the families heal. The media should focus less on the suspects and more on the victims, it can prevents future events if less focus is given to the shooters and more on the Victims. Whether it's mass shooters or serial killers. Media shouldn't focus on them and make them some kind of a man who had troubled childhood and all this because of their upbringings, this and that and make them some kind of hero. They want the Media and the Media gives them.

I'm not sure that would make any difference but I see what your saying by making it so their names wouldn't live on or they couldn't be idolized by some in theory would deter those who want their name to be known think twice. If stopping this type of stuff from happening you have to tackle what causes these things because by the time it gets to the point they shoot up a school so many things have already failed the person by that point. It's never just this one thing or that one thing that leads to this stuff it is usually a string of issues that eventually lead to events like these.

Wow. I'm appalled at the hesitation, stupidity, and just sheer lack of courage on display by the police responding to the Uvalde incident. When there is someone inside a school trying to take lives, you don't wait around for backup and take your sweet ass time quietly knocking on class room doors acting like house keepers in a hotel for over an hour. You get the hell in there, and you save the lives of the children and faculty who are in imminent danger. Period. These cops took the job knowing that one day their lives could be put on the line to protect others... and when that time came, they fucking failed. The slow apathetic meandering.. "those are rounds? watch out bro"... I mean COME ON. Utterly pathetic. There could have been kids in there bleeding out that MIGHT have been saved had they acted more decisively. I truly feel for the parents who were willing to run in there themselves but were held back while these bozos fumbled around with lives on the line.

I remember in school doing drills and they specifically taught us to stay hidden and never respond to that as the shooter could use that to draw us out of hiding. It is like they have zero training on how to not only handle these situations but also on how the students and teachers are trained to respond in them. They had like 6 officers standing around waiting, how many more do you need? can only fit so many through a door at one time anyways... those locked doors wont keep anyone out who watches a few videos too on how to quickly defeat locks. Every second counts and they look like they standing around giving a lunch order.

Bad upbringing of these kids have resulted them to become psychopath and or sociopath. Bad family, bad parents, bad people around them and usually treated as outcast in their school and or community. The mind can only take so much stress before they will snap and act violent to those who they believed hurt and or betrayed them.
Be kind to everyone, for you never know that suffering they endure at home and with their personal struggles. Smile and say hello to them and those little things can cheer them up.
I used to know a kid in my school that is severely bullied and I would tell on the teachers on who bullied them. I would say hi to this bullied kid and cheer him up. Turns out he is an introvert, possibly because he is bullied by his step big brother and his friends, and the bullying continued throughout high school.
All that bullying, I'm surprise he managed to hold on to his humanity/sanity and still able to smile back at me and few student that know him. I don't know where he is now, I didn't have any contact with him after graduating high school. I hope his life turned to become better.

I agree, but infuriatingly often it seems like the thoughts and prayers only seem to arrive in the hours and days AFTER the events have already unfolded. In the internet age, thoughts and prayers can be delivered instantaneously, so you would think it would be easy enough to allocate just a tiny bit of thought PRIOR. I don't know how these things work. Maybe there's just not enough to go around. Who knows.
All I know for sure is that it's a waste of time looking at how other industrialized countries deal with mass shootings, because most of them barely ever experience them nowadays, so they're not exactly the experts. I doubt they really have anything useful to bring to the discussion.
Oh, and it's important not to get caught up in the emotional turmoil that follows this type of event, and rush in hasty legislation that is only supported by about 60% of Americans to implement proportionate gun reform. Let cooler heads prevail, folks.
      Anyway, thoughts and prayers x
