Puerto Ricans come from a main mix of Africans, Spains and Taínos(native tribes)
So there is a big variety
You can see blondes, redheads and brunettes. Black with dead hair, trigueño(lightskin, that is more taíno than black) with green eyes and white girls with afros. People around the world tend to think that Puerto Rico is mainly made of black people.
I am fair skin with hazel eyes and brown hair. My mom is black with afro and my dad is white and blonde. There is a lot of that in Puerto Rico

Glad to see you know your facts. At my father in-laws funeral in Coamo I was surprised to see all the graves of PR veterans from all the different wars. His brother is retired Air Force. Definitely not judgmental about Mexican culture. I am however, judgmental toward people who insist that there’s no difference. I think a lot of us are tired of the dismissals. When we correct them and tell them we are in fact Puerto Rican, their response is usually something along the lines of “meh, close enough” or “same difference”. Like, NO, we are two different cultures and it’s not only offensive to Puerto Ricans, it’s offensive to Mexicans. The fact that they’re uneducated on those differences is bad enough, but to be dismissive when we correct them is just unacceptable and offensive. Then they turn around and twist it around to try and make it seem like we’re offended to be perceived as Mexican, when that is not the case at all. We’re just tired of every Latino/Hispanic being perceived as Mexican because they’re too intellectually lazy to understand that these cultures are distinct from one another. Just my two cents!

i find it so cool how the latin community is so different yet so alike and we all have something to bring to the table and how a certain group of hispanics can all relate because they're from the same place so all of our parents are the same and we all have the same sayings etc etc
idk i find it all so fascinting
What caught me totally off guard when I was 23 years old was the very intense animosity that I encountered from a significant percentage of Mexicans at the JWs church in Chicago simply because I was Puerto Rican. I had not encountered that animosity based on cultural differences from the Anglo Americans I had met at church. I figured it was just the Chicago Mexicans, But then I came up against the same attitude from a significant number of Dominicans in New York City. Never had imagined that could be possible You see, I grew up being hated by Irish and Italians and had figured that all Latinos were all in the same boat in the USA. I was suddenly forced to conclude that I had been wrong.
That relatedness might be true to a certain degree. But we do not all share the same social concerns and that prevents us from having the same cultural unity that African Americans have.
For example, Puerto Ricans don't worry about borders for entry into the USA. Mexicans aren't living under communism as Cubans are. Other Latin Americans are not constantly concerned about the Falkland Islands, as Argentineans are.
I guess there are definitely affinities based on sharing the same language, religion, and general history in this hemisphere. . However, not always does it pan out that way. For instance, Island Puerto Ricans don't identify culturally with New Yoricans although they both groups claim to be from the same place.
@@radrook7584 That's so bizarre ... In general Latin American usually like and greet each others, especially if you are in " extraña nación pues lo quiso el Destino". Being different, we have a lot, a lot in common, especially the most important of all: moral values (which even if you are not a Catholic, prevail). You must have had very bad luck. I lived in the UK and France for 4 years while a student and I couldn't be more grateful for the warmth, the caring, the affection my fellow Latin Americans showed to me as I was all alone, young and struggling with the languages as I did. REally, I wouldn't have survived without the family affection, which we all cherish, they shared with me. And, asyou say, all this in a religious context, within a Church, so so bizarre ..

Salsa music is a popular Puerto Rican dance music that initially arose in New York City during the 1960s.
The first salsa bands were predominantly "Puerto Ricans" who moved to New York since 1930’s.
Puñetaaaaaa Puerto Ricooooo !!! 🇵🇷💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪🇵🇷
Los mejores del mundooooooo 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷
To redirect the comments into the constructive conversation we had previously, I will like to as that some people point out that reggeaton came up from the city of Carolina first. In any case, the surge of salsa and reagueaton share many similarities, including themes discussed in songs as well as initial rejection as an underground music but transcending into "mainstream" or more popular music. One interesting contrast is the lead of the dance: while in salsa the male leads the dance, in reggeaton the female actually does. Whatever the rhythm, let's keep dancing and sharing the moves and love with all the nations on Earth. Lol

But what did she say?
I saw the title and immediately thought:
"Puelto Lico"
Catherine M.
Actually when puerto ricans do that, its more like they do it when its not a important R, aka the R in puerto, they will change that into a L, but with Rico. They will leave that R the way it is
So
Puelto rico
When talking in Spanish, since it is my second language I say most of the r's as l's. Because it is easier to pronounce.
Is gringee when other latinos say Puelto Lico XD. That's not how we talk. We only change the R for the L after a vowel (when we say Puerto for example). Y arrastramos la R before vowels when the R is after another vowel or when the R is the first letter of the word (when we say Arroz or Rico for example). And also we change the S or Z a lot for the J when we talk but is a weak sound (when we say Arroz or arrastrar for example). 🇵🇷
Being Puerto Rican too lit tbh😝🇵🇷
One thing I'm tired of hearing - "Why do you want to go to Puerto Rico when you got Puerto Ricans in Bridgeport?" Hello! There are Puerto Ricans in Bridgeport, but the island of Puerto Rico is a different world. Some people can be really clueless.
Yea I’m Puerto Rican. Yes I’m not tan, I look like a gringa. What do you want from me?! 🇵🇷
No .I've seen Mexicans that look like you. You don't look white. White people are pink or pale
"So, how far away of a drive is Puerto Rico from (insert somewhere in the continental US here)?" *looks at them to see if they laugh or are dead serious*
They forgot to add, "You're Puerto Rican? So that means you like spicy food, right?" I heard that all the time in England.
"Was it hard coming here from Puerto Rico?" and "I love your Puerto Rican accent." triggered a flight or fight response in me istg
I've heard them all but the "Puelto Rico" one pissed me off. If someone said that to me I would fight
Andre Camila exactly
The olympics one pissed me off. I say Puelto Rico 24/7 so
Andre Camila you must be young....
Yooo! I f%*&ing hate hearing that. It's so insulting!
That's the mature way to respond
I'm white, blonde and have green eyes.. I'm a proud Puerto rican. And whenever I visit the US nobody believes that, todos se pueden raspar pal ca 😁

I finally got to work with a few p. Ricans this past Christmas, and I almost cried in tears after horrible treatment from one Mexican girl. Too bad, I wish she knew how worthy she is. ♥️
Thank God for these kind P.rican humans souls who literally were the blessing to me during the hardest stage in coping blindness from abuse to being made fun of in discrimination. Damn like my people don't even have a country, we come in peace trust me, we support all humans in wanting life of serving.
