I commend her pronunciation. Even if she doesn't know or use it often almost everything she said in Spanish came out naturally.
Because it in her blood once a Puerto Rican always in Puerto Rican❣❣❣
🎶🎊Weeeepaaaa 🇵🇷🎊🇵🇷🎊🎉🇵🇷🎉🎊🎶🎵
I said the same exact thing! Literally commented the same thing almost word for word. You could tell it's in her blood. She has the tongue for it.

ITS IN OUR BLOOD PUÑETA
Its not really that hard though in my opinion
I didn't even know Destinee was Puerto Rican!
Welcome to La Familia Boricua girl!!!🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷
Saber de tu cultura y de tu pasado, y sentirce orgulloso de tus raices, no te hace menos Americano. A lot of the European descendents don't know anything about their European culture and background and don't have something to feel connected to. I believe this is why a lot of them hate and don't like when people know where they come from and celebrate their culture.
She is only a quarter. I don't give a damn about what people say!

Why isn't this blowing up? This could inspire kids and adults who are shy about this topic. When I first got to college in the South the people said I couldn't be both one or the other, but boy are they wrong about this platano
El Mono share it, if you already haven’t friend, I did !!!
RIGHT?! This whole channel would have boosted me up so much as a teen LOL these kids these days are so lucky!
It’s certainly inspiring me
your great great great great grandparent could be Puerto Rican and we'll still claim you as family 😂
Thats beautiful lol
I love this ❤️♥️
This is so true!!! Even if you don’t have a genetic connection, being Puerto Rican is more of a state of mind, a feeling. A good example is our beloved Tony Croatto.
TRUEEE
For real? People couldn't possibly claim that far back?! I thought it went as far back as Great Grandparents and that was it. She sure got the hang of Bomba though! ;D
I battled with this my whole life; I was never Black enough for my Black side, not Puerto Rican for the Puerto Rican side. You CAN be both and be proud of both, and I am teaching my kids to be orgullosos de todo! Weeeepaaaaaa!!! 🇵🇷
Considering puerto rican is an ethicity and we are mixed race anyway..the only way to not be puerto rican enough is to not hold the culture in your heart.

I feel for you. I'm 1/4 Puerto Rican on my dad's side and my Latino friends accepted me but my mom's side of the family which is African American always told me it doesn't count, why are you embarrassed to be black? I'm not at all, but a do accept and love everything that I am. Now my dad wants me to learn Spanish and connect with my family and I couldn't be more proud!
keep in mind puerto rico is a country and not race. Being proud of the roots that you have from there is beautiful. Black is a race , and in puerto rico theres many black people who have majority of black blood but embrace their latino culture . African culture is beautiful as well depending from what part you are and culture you embrace. Be proud its not taking away from your black background.
Puerto rican is a nationality & culture💖not race
You are Afro Latina. Claim your heritage love 😊
You can be any color and be Puerto Rican. There are even Chinese Boricuas. Be proud of who you are.
I’m half Puerto Rican and Half African American. Girl embrace that Boricua culture. Wepaaa!!
My Dear Sister,
There Is No Conflict Between Being Black And Being Puerto Rican! To Be Puerto Rican IS To Be African, Taino And Spanish! We Have All The Best Of Three Worlds Combined And Each Part Is Equal And Wonderful.
I Would Welcome You
Home, But You Were Always Home, This Is Where Your Heart Is!
Not for all.
Not all Puerto Ricans are "mixed". Some are only European or White. So stop the BS.
Yesssss NOT ALL SPANISH HAVE AFRO BLOODLINES Puertoricans barely have Tainos too most Puertoricans have Italian not Spanish Españoles and they dont all have afro either
Tainos are Asian mix not many are known that tribe is very small.

I can tell it's in her blood though because she has the tongue for spanish. She may not know spanish but she sounds good speaking it.
K Fallon Accent has nothing to do with genetics.
@@Maverick.D. I don't think they were trying to be offending but you are making it sound offending
@@Maverick.D. No, but some non-Spanish speakers have really hard times getting pronunciation right when learning. It helps if you've been exposed to the language and accent so maybe she's going by what her grandmother sounded like.

So you separate blackness from being Puerto Rican? Many African Americans would take that statement as evidence that Puerto Ricans are racists. Are you unaware of that?
Puerto Ricans are african descent... embrace your wepa, hermano
I'm half Puerto Rican and it wasn't until my dad passed that I fully connected with my boricua side. I went to the motherland for the first time 2 weeks ago and it was a dream. Never been prouder to say "Soy boricua" 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷

I’ve always felt like this! My mom is half Puerto Rican and I’ve never felt like I was I guess “allowed” to be Puerto Rican. This truly is the insight I was looking for from Pero Like and I love it!
Being Puerto Rican means that you identify with the Puerto Rican culture. I(t has absolutely nothing to do with race. I recently met a Korean Puerto Rican and she was 100 Puerto Rican culturally. On the other hand there are persons of 100% European ancestry who are also Puerto Rican. Makes absolutely no difference.
I’m loving that Pero Like is uploading so many videos related to Puerto Rico🥰

I think she would feel similar to certain Latino Americans who have a strong Spaniard lineage and who who visit Spain.
@@radrook7584 not the same as Puerto Rico! Also, I was always told my heritage was Puerto Rican with ancestry back to Spain but when I did my dna no Spain all Portugal so to me Spain doesn’t hit the same as Puerto Rico, you lose the African influences as well as Taino
Many Spaniard’s arrived in PR when Spain occupied the island. Many identify as Castilian. But don’t get me started, they have their own traditions and most are fair-skinned. Many of the old time Spanish-influenced cafes in the San Juan area (Kasalta plus La Ceiba, España if they’re still in existence) were started by Castilians. They even have their own flag (it’s red) and I last saw one flown above the hardware store in Old San Juan, though I think they’ve closed.
Can we please make this a series? I'd love to see Destinee connect more with her Puerto Rican side and even go to Puerto Rico.
Of course if she decides to identify with her Latina side she will be welcomed. It is a matter of personal choice in such cases. It doesn't mean she is rejecting her blackness since there are black Puerto Ricans.
Seeing somebody be introduced to their culture always warms my heart, because it took me a little longer than most to connect to my Cubanidad y Panameñidad. (And if it includes slang, Mofongo, Bomba, y Arroz con Gandules that's even better!)

Panama!!! I share a similar struggle, but it is good learning about where ancestors are from. I connect through my heritages(Granny spoke fluent Spanish, and this fact was a clue to my partial heritage! I am Jamaican also,) through food and music, as well as learning the language-I always found Spanish easy to learn! Need people to practice with though.
Off topic
But she's pretty ASF 😂❤️

My mom was born and raised in Yauco, PR. I wasn't raised to speak Spanish. I knew very little about the culture and I've never lived there. My dad is your typical white man of Western European descent. Mostly German, Irish, and English. I've struggled with my Puerto Rican identity too. Most people say I'm too white to be Puerto Rican, even though I'm only one generation removed from being Puerto Rican on my mom's side. I have jibaro blood in my veins. I can speak Spanish decently, I love all the food, I cook some of the food, I can dance salsa, and I can survive almost anything. I won't let any uptight prick tell me who I am. No matter if they're from Puerto Rico or not, we'll have a problem if they try to tell me who I am. Be proud of who you are. No one can define who you are except for you.
Ryan Bales anybody that says you are too white to be Boricua is someone that is either non Boricua or a person of Puerto Rican decent born in the states.
Omg I have almost the same experience as you! Except my grandparents were both born in the island and my mom in America. I always feel like I'm not puerto Rican enough even though I'm technically half
@@christinabrown232 embrace that culture hermana.
100% boricua here and I dont look like it... remember we are a mix of 3 (possibly more)
@@SuperVale19 yeah more definitely. People from all over the world settled in PR for centuries. People forget things like that and try to put Boricuas in a box and that we're all supposed to look a certain way.
I needed this! It really helps me to know I’m not the only one feeling that inner conflict and validates the fact that you can be equally submerged in and proud of all the cultures you come from. We share similar stories and I appreciate you sharing yours. 💛😊
🇵🇷🙌🏾WEEEPPAAAAAA!!!🙌🏾🇵🇷
????u only havv inner conflict if u allow OUTER ppl 2 d-fine u........DONT!!!!!!!!
that's a kindred spirit , I was like that but not with puerto Rico , ifelt home in the states but a piece of French and italian.. like somewhere from that ueuropean..
I really hope that Destinee does get to visit PR 🇵🇷. It'd be amazing to see a vlog-esque type of vid of her exploring it for the first time and see her come full circle.
It’s so refreshing to see these types of videos! It’s interesting being an African-American who has no link to the islands whatsoever and inadvertently still feeling connected. De hecho, I’ve learned And practiced Spanish for the last 8 years and its just so powerful and moving that that I can dig just a little deeper into the culture and everything else because I speak Spanish. Destiny, kill it, boo! Keep these videos comin, Pero Like! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
“When you don’t feel like your talking puertorican just start cutting down words” That’s SOOOOO true😂😂😂
I am half Mexican and half puertoriquen but i only know my Mexican side because my mom passes away years ago i never got in touch with it, but i can't wait to one day get tp experience my puertoriquen side as well
Thank you for this!! I'm a 1/4 Puerto Rican on my dad's side too. Sadly my grandma passed when he was young and he was adopted so I've never gotten to know anything about being Puerto Rican really. It's a part of me that I really want to get to know more about and seeing your video was really inspiring!
I am the exact same im black n 4th Puerto Rican n it’s always been hard, I always wanted to be out and be proud of being Puerto Rican pero sometimes I feel like I can’t because I don’t know Spanish that much or look much like a “latina” pero I want to embrace being who I am and this just really made me so happy 💗‼️
I love how confident she is and that pronunciation was soooo satisfying you have no idea how amazing it is to hear someone pronounce a word in a language they don't speak, you'll do great sweetie and I'm sure Puerto Rico claims you as their child before you were born
Im not Puerto rican but my dad married into a Puerto rican family and everytime i visited i felt like family. Never felt outcasted.
I relate to this video on so many levels. My grandma is 1/2 Puerto Rican but I didn’t grow up with much of the culture beyond knowing I loved pasteles and gandule rice and could eat them all day everyday. Recently I’ve been learning more about the Puerto Rican side of my family and the culture, but since I’m essentially only 1/8th, it sometimes feels like barely a connection. It’s so nice to see others like me exploring their Puerto Rican side and especially interesting to see their journey.
TLDR - Gracias Pero Like for helping me to embrace my Puerto Rican side through your videos!
Hola mi gente....I can totally relate! I am finally embracing my mixed heritage, and after just finding my paternal Puerto Rican roots I am so moved by this. To be embraced meant everything to me, but now I have the courage to just BE! Boriquas & women/people of every race stand up!!😘🌻🌞🧚🏼♀️
can i be puerto rican? 😂 omg i loveeee puerto rican people! i grew up in a puerto rican neighborhood here in chicago and every person i met is always so nice, they talk to u like you're part of the family, if youre shy and u dont wanna talk they do all the talking, they make sure youre having a good time, they wanna feed u, and i aint even mad i wish can eat pr food every single day! lol
Being puertorrican is not only about your family descendance or if you were born on the island. It is about embracing the culture, it's people, it's heart. Once you have embraced all of those things, the Island of Enchantment shall be within you wherever you go.❤❤❤

I've been saying for almost my entire life. There's no such thing as "I'm x% Puerto Rican" you're just Puerto Rican. I was born in New York both my parents are Puerto Rican. We're all just Puerto Rican. 😁❤️

I had to hold the tears back!!!!
I EM👏🏾PHA👏🏾THIZE with not feeling __________ enough!!!
Well I'm Dominican...grew up around Dominicans all my life...but I've always been told that I don't "act" dominican...i know exactly what people mean, I don't fit into the stereotypes...I'm not loud, I don't dance merengue nor speak freakishly fast with a Dominican accent...I have a very calm demeanor, like classical music and my Spanish sounds "universal" (I don't know how else to describe it 😁 )...and I'm still 100% Dominican and proud. So yeah, I too represent Dominicans and the culture.
People need to stop trying to define others and categorize them according to what they believe to be is right... and most importantly, people can't let the unsolicited ignorant opinions and thoughts of others, question who you are and what you represent.

Theres a lot of people who question their identity or place in their culture and ethnicity but if you want to learn and be part of your culture, just own it, who care about what other people say because at the end of the day you would loose the oportunity to connect with YOUR lineage and YOUR culture, dont let arrogant "cultured" people take that away.
