Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea is a 1960s American science fiction television series based on the 1961 film of the same name. Both were created by Irwin Allen, which enabled the movie's sets, costumes, props, special effects models, and sometimes footage, to be used in the production of the television series.
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea was the first of Irwin Allen's four science fiction television series as well as the longest running. The show's main theme was underwater adventure. Voyage was broadcast on ABC from September 14, 1964 to March 31, 1968, and was the decade's longest-running American science fiction television series with continuing characters.
The 110 episodes produced included 32 shot in black and white (1964?65), and 78 filmed in color (1965?68). The first two seasons took place in the then future of the 1970s. The final two seasons took place in the 1980s. The show starred Richard Basehart and David Hedison.
The series' main theme, "The Seaview Theme", was written by Paul Sawtell. A new darker, more serious theme composed by Jerry Goldsmith was introduced at the beginning of the second season episode "Jonah and the Whale", but this was quickly replaced by the original version.

Voyage to the Bottom of The Sea will always be my favourite TV show ! Loved it so much when I was a kid , Admiral Harriman Nelson ( Richard Basehart) and Captain Lee Crane ( David Hedison) were my childhood heroes . And you will find a major influence on Lucas and Spielberg was the SF serials of the 30s and 40s like "Flash Gordon." They've admitted those serialized tales were fundamental in the genesis of "Indiana Jones." You can also see it in "Star Wars: Episode 4" and it persists still in that franchise with the use of 'wipe' transitions. I wonder what influenced Allen and Roddenberry? Maybe those same serials. Sidenote: I think Lucas' strongest work remains "American Graffiti" which was drawn from his own experiences as a teenager in California. Just goes to show - personal stories are the greatest source.

Long before the phrase, "Wait for it, wait for it..." came into vogue my maternal grandfather would point out that every week there was a scene where the Seaview's occupants were tossed from side-to-side. My grandfather, keen observer that he was, also noted that each week somebody in the crew would be taken over by an alien presence. Still, of that era's sci-fi shows, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and Lost in Space were my childhood favorites.

I'm 58 and enjoy watching this show and many others from the 60's and 70's as they are my favorites of all time! I avoid most of the crap shown on TV today, including the music as my favorites are from the 50's to the 80's. Goes to show you how much BS there is in society today!

its still amazing that in the 60s they used models and they look very realistic, today they use computer generated crap and looks very fake...This show and Lost In Space were my two favorite shows as a kid...

Amazing series. I was a kid when this was aired in Mexico in the early 70´s. Boy, no bad words, no sex, just imagination and great memories incepted for us. Thanks fpr reminding the good things for us and the new generations. BTW: This is the reason why there is a Madagascar penguin called "Kowalski"... :)

I remember watching this in the summer hols of the early 80s, maybe 82 and / or 83. Great 60s fare! I think the late Al 'David' Hedison was the only actor to play Felix Leiter twice in two separate non-consecutive James Bond films. 👍🏾🎬📽

I spotted "Ski", Chief Sharkey, and Sparky. However, this collection of clips is missing the all-important announcement by the captain: "Damage control, report!" This was yelled out at least once every episode, after what my family called a "throw-around scene" in which the Seaview was violently rocked from side to side, the lights went out, and small explosions of sparks flew out of various machinery in the control room.
