Well it's not often I see a Saab at the shop but this one showed up with a broken passenger window that came off of it's track. The fix was surprisingly affordable with this one and fairly easy to do with a little time and effort. Enjoy.

@AtlanticFlyer Yea they can be a pain to work on sometimes but they are good cars, well made. Thanks for the comment.
@qbeck11 Try the silicone paste in the window tracks as I show in the video, in addition make sure the run channels aren't rolling up or binding up the window.
Eric,
I have this exact problem on my 2003 9-5 Aero Wagon and my daughter told me to search on the internet. That brought me here. So now I have to verify that the rollers have failed. All in all a great instructional video. A little dark on my screen. Maybe you can get some more light or step up the exposure of the camera 1.0 or 1.5. steps. To avoid losing things, I attach them to blue painter's tape and label them. Same idea for the plugs, but as you say at 15:58 "But where's the fun in that"!
I am in love with you (Eric & JXC) for posting this! I have not been able to find the part ANYWHERE! No dealers could get it, no parts stores could get it. I started to search Google and voila! The video came up and now the parts are on their way. =D Thank you so much!
@hellraiser319 I often call my pocket screwdriver my '11th finger' and pick them up whenever I can. I have one of the type you're talking about and I love it. Thanks for the comment.
This is a great tutoria Eric thank you! I did it on my driver's side door and it was almost identical. There are 2 small differences. 1 is that the mirror selector and director is attached to the top black molding piece. I just left it in and once the molding was detached from the door, just moved it out of the way with the wires still attached. The other difference is the buttons for the gas tank door and trunk. The connectors for these just pop right out! Other than that, exact same thing!
@jxc1139 I'm glad the video was able to help you, thanks for the comment.
@ANDREASRIAL You're most welcome, thanks very much for your comment.
Hello from England where it was, of course, raining heavily on the day both of the rollers broke. Managed to pick up a pair of genuine rollers & soon had the job done with your first class tutorial. Many thanks!
+A19A64 Raining here too, isn't that the way?
Enjoyed the video.
I had the same problem with my Peugeot 306. The dealer wanted to sell me a new regulator. So I fixed the clip with a screw and plastic steel. I think the better the parts supply the better the car!
Straight to the point
Was able to fix my 2002 9-5 aero passenger window today, without breaking anything.
Thanks for the awesome informative video!
I just made this fix yesterday on my 2003 9-5. Wow I bet I saved an easy $150 for $6 in parts! Thanks so much!
He is a hell of a good guy to work on cars and for the benefit of the general people. THANKS A MILLION ERIC.
Saabs was great cars, RIP.
Thanks for a saab video Eric.
I just got a quote from my auto mechanic for $521.00 to fix this very problem. I just bought the part off Ebay for less than $5.00 and I will do this myself. Thank you for the excellent instructions.
I have the same problem on both sides would you happen to remember what the part is called
Lord Gaulo I assume you have found the part already... www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/59148/Window-Roller-Kit-000K10004/ is where I got mine.
@Carlostype I'm glad to hear that, thanks for the comment.
Bill Snethkamp Dodge in Lansing was a former Saab dealer, but they still service Saabs. However, if it's a window repair you need I'd think twice about taking it to a dealership. BOTH of the front windows in my 2001 9-5 wagon were broken so I took it to them. They charged me almost $400 to do the driver's window, so I told them I didn't want the other one fixed. After watching this video I am going to try the passenger window repair myself.
I got a Saab 9-3 Convertible, very similar to the 9-5. (except, ofcourse, it is convertible. lol)
well anyway, eversince i got the car the pasenger window would not go up all the way. always stuck 1/4 inch, would push it up by hand as i pushed the button to completely close it.
it wasnt until i watched Eric's video on the Honda window runner. He said "Silicone Spray". i ran out that night (1:30am) to walmart, grabbed some silicone spray ($2.50). has been working perfect eversince! thanks ETCG! :)
Just a note for somebody who may try this, the metal clips should NOT be removed from the green rollers before installing, they're designed to be left in place so when you pop the arm in they lock, and it's a pain to try to get them in after the fact.
Also, be aware that there's a some plastic/rubber guide that sometime falls off, that is supposed to hold the glass in place in the side guides. I went through this once and had to do it again because the windows fell off the tracks.
Thanks Eric. You saved me some time tearing open my doors just to find out what broke. Great video as always.
Thanks a million. Made it easy. We need more people like you to make this world more affordable and less greedy. Peace and harmony prevails. Thanks and regards.
just pciked up a 9-5 and need to do the passenger window -- this helps so much, getting this done by a local in Adelaide Australia would run over $700 -- they sure know how to rip you off. I'd be happy with a couple of hundred, given the work involved, but $700 --- man that hurts
@dcheverie That's nice to know, thanks for the comment.
@JTheGuitarPlayer To diagnose this you pretty much have to take the inner door panel off and get a look, most times the cause of problems like this are easy to find.
Video was very helpful. I had to change out the rollers on both driver and passenger side on my 2000 Saab 93. Driver's side took a bit longer, found that was easier to seat the window in the fully up position before snapping in the rollers. I also left the clips on the rollers and snapped them home with a pair of pliers. Passenger window went much faster. Kudos and please produce more!
Video made the whole job possible! One thing I found was, make sure the window is correctly seated in the right rubber groove neat the hinges. I got it wrong with the motor struggling to close the window.
Thanks very much for this video - you just saved my father a fortune by showing us how to do it ourselves!!
Amazing video. Great advice! There was a comment at the end about aligning something to make it easier. Eric meant to align the rollers at an angle to make it easy to push the retaining pins in before snapping in the balls into the rollers. Lifting the bottom window squeezee out of the door as the window is slid into it gave more room for the aluminum window holders. How about silicon tent spray and a paper towel for lubricant?
@shayorshayorshayor I'm a little confused by your question if I'm honest as I'm not sure what you mean by 'turbo blow up'.
ok, awesome video dude!....I priced out the cost of having this done and I was like "no way" - so I googled how to do it, saw your video and I would play your video a few minutes, then go out to my car and do the same - I did that repeatedly until it was done and I can't thank you enough! Great quality video and your explanations on how to do this was great - thx again! -Bruce, Ellington CT
@texan176 I did not know that. I do know however that they do make a solid car and I'd rather be in one of those if I were ever in a collision, in fact the Europeans make a very good car when it comes to safety in my experience. Thanks for the comment.
Success! Thank you for this thorough walk-through. Managed to fix in under an hour but imagine it would have taken much longer had I not watched this first.
@smueller99 You're right I misspoke, thanks for pointing that out and for your comment.
The ignition key is in the console in Saabs because their crash testing came up with the possibility of your right knee crashing into the key if the ignition was in the steering column as in most cars. In a really bad crash the key ends up pretty much going into the knee so they put the key where it really could do no harm. They also go way above & beyond the min. rollover standards. The old 900s could support 2 times the weight of the car upside down w/o roof collapse.
pretty cool
Thanks! Because of this video, I fixed my wife’s car yesterday before it rained in 30 minutes. Cheers!
@NETWizzJbirk That's why I'm here to show you how to do it yourself. Thanks for the comment.
Ive always done my own windows. My father helped with the head gasket, one was blown on a subaru...I like the comment of 'while Im here might as well fix the other one" we did that, while we had the engine apart, might as well fix the other side, even though the gasket wasnt cracked. Thanks to your video, Im doing this to the SAAB 9-5 sitting in the driveway with a bag over the window. lol! stay dirty! ha!
Thanks Eric! Just about to replace a window in my wife's 9-5...this really helps a shade tree mechanic like me! Definitely subscribing!!
Thank you Eric for such a detailed video. I have a 2001 9-5 and indeed, it is the rubber (track?) on the door that seem to start the problem. I have to fix it again but this time, thanks to you, I will know to apply that silicone around the rubber. Thank you again!
Thank you for posting this clip! My 05 Aero started doing that yesterday so I need to mend it this weekend.
@salpta I'll keep that in mind, thanks for the suggestion.
@EricTheCarGuy Too bad you aren't in my town. A good, honest/hard-working mechanic can't be beat! I would hire you and not only pay but offer to hold the camera & learn!
@martian953 Hello Marty from Scotland! Thanks for watching and for your comment.
AWESOME!!! Followed the step by step and was flawless...THANK YOU!!! One one the easiest fixes i have tried...
You are an excellent mechanic and a good man Eric. Thanks a mil :-) I miss my Saab now...
@golefevre Rivets are a cheep fastener if a car company is looking to save a little in production they use them as it's a lot more expensive to manufacture a threaded fastener as well as the time it takes to install it.
@bcompany6 It may not be the same on you Toyota, in fact I'm pretty sure you're going to have to replace the regulator on that one. Good luck.
@youtubasoarus Thank you very much for that comment.
@HackTheTouch Good luck and thanks for the comment.
@talleddie81 A couple of people mentioned that very thing, I'll try that next time I run into this. Thanks for the comment.
This is a fantastic video!
I was able to fix passenger side window on my 9-5 2005 Saab, without earlier experince.
Thank you for the detailed instructions. This worked great on our 1999 9-3 model.
You make it look easy.
Life is good!
thank you, thank you so Eric for this video !! the body shop was trying to tell me that the rollers are welded in place on my 2002 93 Se
Thanks Eric - really helpful - much better than any manual!
Excellent as usual. May I suggest doing a door handle/lock cleaning and replacing next time you have to take a door panel off? (Kids keep sticking sticks in the door locks at my wife's school).
@srissy007 This actually was easy. Thanks for the comment.
I love the full body shots of you working.
bonjour
tks eric just fixed my driver window on my 2003 95 , just change those two green rollers with the pins, but without having the pull out the window and not having to reinstalled the window back avoiding to brake it, Just rolled the piece in the rail and it works....
merci
claude
@DStylesHanska Yea they are good cars, good suspension and transmissions too.
Thanks for the video!! I just bought a 02 Saab 95 and the drivers window came out the track. So this was very helpfull
Thank you SO much for that video. I had the same problem on the drivers side. It's a GM van, but the fix was almost exactly the same. Awesome job! :D
Very helpful video Eric.
I just happened to have a broken guide bearing (those green plastic ones. for the glass and this will help me very much since you go into detail about the delicate things on the plastic frames.
Great video helped me out a lot with my Saab 9-3 with a broken window roller!
I'm attempting to do this on my 02 9-3 today thanks to you. Keep it up !
The windows working great =) was an easy job, Thank's again !
I had real trouble getting the clips back in on my 02 9-3. What I wound up doing was installing the rollers with the clips on and just pushing the balls in, and it worked fine.
Thanks for sharing this. Love your dry sense of humor as well.
Very good information that will save the do it yourselfer a lot of money. A technician would probably charge $150.00 easily!
Thanks a lot Eric the car guy for broken power window good explanation in detail for saab 2002.
@tonydinatrucking Not often, I mostly use them on interior trim, I mostly worked on Honda's so they all pretty much come apart like this one did.
@Gatorsrok Not yet but if one shows up I will.
Your vdeos are amazing! keep it going, this video is going to help me in the future because i just got an acura integra, and i think the window might go, so i might need to change it soon. Thanks bro
@legendfang I never thought of that, thanks for the tip.
I'm wondering if this is what happened to my driver side window. It still rolls up and down, but it tilts forward when you try to roll it up. you kind of have to hold the window backward as you roll it up! I'm so happy to see these videos of this Saab! thank you!
Madeline Meamber it's definitely what happened to your Saab
I also found out that you don't have to remove the metal clip to get the window out. You can push the closed end of the clip toward the plastic mount, that will cause the open end of the clip to ride up onto the mount further and spread out the clip, then the pin will come out of the clip.
@IIGrayfoxII Not often but I suspect I'll be seeing this one more.
i love the differences saab, volkswagonns sorry about spelling...the key location, the way every part is installed...i looked at a few back in my earlier days...and then i looked into parts prices...for a simple tuneup...plugs wires, filter...etc...was boocoo money...well a friend of mine baught a nice jetta...the aw4? beautiful car...blew it up...and shes nice to cars..it blew a rod..the engine was more than the car..i think it was $5000 no install..install was 1200..no thankyou! love ya vids
Thanks for the upload. I would like to add something if you don't mind. I noticed when I was testing the roller out that the ball came out of the joint. I was looking around and people have said to pinch the ball and joint in until you hear 2 clicks instead 1. I did that with both rollers with 2 clicks.
The dust cover isnt only for that. Its also for side airbags. It reacts to rapid pressure change inside the door and deploys the airbag inside the front seat.
This was a great video! Thanks EricTheCarGuy!
many, many thanks for the video. I was able to fix the driver's side with no problem. FYI I did not pull the window out and I did not have to pull/snap out that little oval piece near the mirror (you mentioned that was not required). Thank you I really appreciate it.
Thanx for the help Eric!! i manage to do it my self after watching this Clip. was done in max 30 min :) my car went in deadlock.and i was trying to get the door opend. and the same window as you fix in the Clip. got smashed. but all doors are okey now. but i wont dare to try sentral Lock before i replace batteries in the sirene modul :) thanx again for the 2 Clips of saab 9-5 :) have the same model only manual shift.
Clear to point as usual! I Have learned a lot from your tutorials ,thanks
Thanks for the video. I have a pretty good knowledge of car repairs of an array of problems. I just wanted to be sure. I have a 1999 Saab 9-3 and I believe your suggestions will be useful. If the retainers, little green goodies, are the problem I can get them for $2 each here in Ky. If not I will simply realign the window and tighten up and straighten up the window support items. Thanks again.
Eric- thank you so much- same car, same year, and a similar problem. My window froze to the track and I'm guessing those medal grips pulled off the window when I tried to lower (I live in the mountains of Utah). Gonna give this go today. How much $ do you save people??? You the Man!
@Flysohighx21 I actually traded this for other work, this person is a friend of mine.
I have the same job to do tomorrow. Thanks for the great video.
This just happened to my 2000 Saab 9-3. Very informative video. Thank you!
@datakilden Yea they can be a lot of fun to drive.
Thanks for the vid! Just watched yours and FCP Euro's vids, and then this as an insurance policiy, and went at it onmy 9-5. All fixed up. Easy? No. But hard? No. not with these vids for a guide. I cant stress this enough though: Make sure your window gets fully back on the weatherstripping! Mine, while putting the glass in, shoved the rubber track at th e back side of the glass out of its channel. When I rolled the window down it bunched all that rubber up inside the door. had to take the rollers etc back off, remove glass, and fix all that rubber. Then carefully inserted the glass again, making sure it seated right. After that it was gravy.
@TickyTack23 They can be expensive to fix too but thankfully these weren't.
Your dry humor
is the best
@thepopeis1 Good thing there wasn't any window tint on the windows then.
@artfuldodger2809 Thank you, I'm sure you could get another Saab, there are plenty of them out there.
I was wondering do you give a copy of your repair videos to the owners of the car that you make Tue video of? I know if I were to have my car repaired and the mechanic gave me a video that showed me the amount of care and professionalism that went into fixing my car. I would continue to go to that mechanic. You're doing a great job man keep it up I watch all your vids. I just like having the general knowledge.
suuuuuure you didn't break that little piece of plastic, we believe you haha j/k. great video man, you covered every detail clearly. i got the green replacement pieces and am about to try to do it on my saab, i think i can pull it off thanks to this video! if it works it sure will be good to have a working window. i've been driving for 2 years with the passenger window permanently up.
Hey Eric, the reason why Saab put the ignition in the center console is for safety. With a serious collision the keys on the steering collom wil bust yous knee.
@midlantic1 Not really no.
@marsL001 I love your comments, seriously.
@Rafterman555 A full video on that will be on Monday.
