- This video shows how to enable OpenSID in your T7 Saab 9-5 or Saab 9-3. This video shows the procedure for my Saab 9-5 Aero from 2002.
OpenSID allows you to see live engine data in your information display, which allows you to read fault codes, boost pressure and much more. I will soon upload a video showing how you can put OpenSID to good use.
Since we will be modifying our ECU software, we need to take several precautions. Never flash your stock ECU, but buy a spare and put the new software there. If anything goes wrong with the flashing and the ECU becomes bricked, you can simply swap the original back and your car will run fine. This video is not for the beginner. Do your due diligence and read up on installing OpenSID and ECU flashing before attempting this guide.
You will need an interface between the computer and the ECU. I will not go into details here since there are so many ways to do it, but I prefer to use JohnC's Combi Adapter from the TrionicTuning.com forum via my p-bus connector in the OBD2 port.
In addition, you need the T7Suite and TrionicCanFlasher software.
Be warned. Enabling OpenSID is the gateway drug to more advanced flashing. Soon you will be hunting for tuning packages and optimizing fuel maps ;)

Once again, thanks for some very useful info. Looking forward to your ECU removal video, it seems difficult to bend the plastic windshield cowl out of the way without breaking it, so I didn't yet have the courage to go thru with it. I thought about removing the whole cowl but was unsuccessful at removing the wiper arms. They are held so tight that they broke my removal tool!

How can I install an aftermarket headunit in a 2004 saab 93
Hi, my OB2 adapter has a USB cable connected to it that i can plug straight into my laptop, with this do i still need the Combi adapter? On my Trionic 7 Program, only two options comes up for me which are Flash ECU and Read ECU, whereas in your one you had several options, and also the option of choosing the combi adapter. I'm just slightly confused and if i need a combi adapter.
+Djamal Djaidi An obd2 adapter is not enough, you need a canbus adapter. The combi adapter does the same as a canbus adapter but does it faster and better. Make sure you have the latest version of T7suite.
Tjena. Do you really need the combi adapter though? If you're able to read/write ECU though the obd2/usb adapter - won't that be enough?

Amazing and very useful video's. I recently bought a Saab 9-3 Coupe. MY2001 (150bhp) and am interested in boosting the power a little. Your videos cover the 9-5 mainly so are there any videos that specifically cover the 9-3 (with T7 of course)?
T7 9-3 and T7 9-5 are very similar!
Okay, but how should I make the changes to the OBD port since my Saab does not have ESP nor CD changer. I am new to this subject, so I might ask the wrong questions or point in the wrong direction.
Hello where did you get this OBD2 to cs232 cable? Already got the Combi adapter from johnc but got no cable for that.
Generic ebay obd2 to rs232 cable, but I had to resolder the pins to get the correct pinout

Hey. I have a stage 1 ecu on my 9-5 2004 b205. But can't find much difference in power. Can you please make a video of how to set the menu on the sid. (which mode to select, or how to set it to feel that 220bhp under the accelerator pedal)
Engine mode doesn't change performance. You should check with your tuner why you don't feel a difference.

Det brukar komma och gå på olika ställen, titta på Saab köp och sälj på facebook och leta efter någon som säljer sin bil i delar. Med lite tur får du den för 200 kr :)

Is it the same for Saab 9-5 2007? My mechanic has no problem with 9-3 OG nor with 9-5 OG phase 1 and 2, but is not managing with phase 3 models

I did ! I've a used black 2005 Saab 93, have admired the car for years (in UK where I lived before) I would certainly love to give it some modernisations, t.ex, modifying head/rear lamps with beaded LEDs . Would attempt custom but if u anyon eon your crew that have come up with similar solutions, would really love to know. tusen tack for my first (heart) lol !
I'd say just go ahead and try stuff, it's quite simple. However, if you don't know what you are doing stay away from electrical stuff as you can damage things.

Can you make a video on how to enter the radio code
Sorry, you'll need tech2 for that. And if it wants a radio code it means you have a fault in the radio. Every time you remove the car battery the problem will come back. You have a bad memory circuit EEPROM in the head unit.
Had this issue. The problem just comes back. I lived without a radio for a couple weeks, and now I installed an aftermarket headunit. That's the best solution honestly.
hi. i have question. i bought saab 9-5 2.0 t 2002. i have got double engine ecu in trunk. i didn' ask previous owner why he changed ecu. do i have to do some basic settings if i want to plug it in just for check is it ok. i am asking because the imob..?

In case you weren't joking, it's called combi adapter because it has both canbus and bdm connectors, it will work both for a wagon (combi) and sedan car
Do you know of any way to swap a 2001 9-5 Aero DIC cassette over to a 2005 9-3 single coil (x4) setup? (would be nice to get rid of those expensive cassettes and be able to just swap single coils)?
No, I'd say that will be impossible

Jobbar oftast då tyvärr. men om jag har tid så kanske det går. Har problem med min årsmodell 2000 3,0 V6:a tyvärr läckande topplock och den rycker vid gasuppsläpp kostnad ca 20000 kr Hos Toreéns söker efter någon som kan hjälpa mig billigare.Älskar ju min 9-5 I övrigt går den som en klocka! har haft den i 7-8 år. Hade 2 st 9000 innan.
Ajdå, tråkigt när en motor börjar gå dåligt. Har hört att just V6:an har en massa problem men ska vara trevlig att köra!

Could be. Open up the broken ECU and check the colors on the plastic feet. Blue => OK. Black => Faulty design. Check my intro to tuning video for more info.
Ok. I helgen skall P-bus in i obd2an... Extra ECU ligger på bordet... Nu skall jag bara bli medlem på Trionoctuning o fixa en adapter..... Det är FARLIGT att börja pilla.... man kan lixom inte sluta :-D
