    It really works! I explain how to perform a simple little trick with the shoulder that will dramatically increase your distance and accuracy. This simple trick causes a one piece takeaway which will cause a bigger shoulder turn. Dustin Johnson, Cameron Champ, Rory McIlroy, Joaquín Niemann and Tommy Fleetwood all start their swings this way.
    Taking the club away with the lead hand will cause the face to roll open. Taking the club away with the right shoulder keeps the clubface stable.
    One thing to note, although you won't feel much of a difference when practice swinging you'll feel, and see a huge difference when actually hitting a ball.
    Basically, the right shoulder is the transmission of the swing. It is the part of the body that applies the power of the body into the right arm and then the club, just as it does when throwing a baseball or swinging a baseball bat.
    A friend picked up ~40 yards of distance after watching this video.

    I'm a big fan of Tom at "Saguto Golf" her on YT, but I gotta say, after about six "Overhand" videos now, I'm VERY impressed with this guy's ability to "impart" what he knows/feels in such a way that I can almost instantly feel the move(s) as he relates them.
    Like; "think about it, you don't swing a bat that way", or some other very relatable concept.
    I love that he cuts through all the noise and just talks to you like a golf buddy giving easy to understand advice, without all the unnecessary stuff.
    (Not that the deeper dives into golf "theory", don't have anything to offer, but I imagine at the upper levels, the returns are probably tiny, and not life changing for us amateurs.)
    Great teacher, that's for sure.

    Your videos have given me a better understanding of how the swing works. I shot my best 9holes 34. I now know what I do to loose my my swing. All new golfers do it, and I fall back into it. Hitting from the top. That feeling of power I feel like I'm gonna crush the ball. Your videos all show the speed of your swing doesn't change at the end of your backswing and the downswing. Your acceleration is at impact.
    Thanks again

Just added 10 to 20yds to my pitching wedge, but most importantly, hit no slices, and tightened up my dispersion considerably.... All this with one simple swing thought re. The right shoulder..... At last I feel free to let the ball fly. Thank you for flying in the face of adversity....you've saved my life.... • @m3toz4
    @m3toz4 3 роки тому

    hi Greg, I got your point, the right shoulder and right arm needs to hit down the middle of the shaft to the holly grail ball on plan , straight down not in the circle and release quickly so the club can swing around the left wrist then it will pull the right side to the finish. In other words we want to use the centrifugal force to swing the club just before and after impact where the right hand just hang on for the ride. The club should swing around the left wrist with stout left hand to control the release path. If the left hand too loose we can't control the release on the path we intended.

    Really enjoying your new videos. Strong work! Two things I would be interested in your perspective. First, how do you think this relates to the 'obtuse vs acute thoracic angle' video? Do you still believe in that concept (because I think it is hugely important). Second, you rarely see great ball strikers immediately lose their shoulder tilt in transition. The left shoulder and hip stay low in transition...which is a bit different than the shoulder motion you are demonstrating. Keep the videos coming!

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf  4 роки тому

      Obtuse v acute is just a physics thing so it'll always make sense. Performing it depends on your flexibility and athleticism.

    This video to me, is truly the holy grail of golf.
    I recently revisited this video coupled with watching your videos at the driving range or on the golf course.
    When you pull your right shoulder back, the club goes straight back, which looks like it's going outward.
    Then you relax at the top, which allows your right shoulder to reroute (at least it looks like that) straight down and through the ball.
    A lot of pros do this same look of rerouting the club, but some look as if they go straight back and straight through.
    The relaxing at the top is universal, no matter if it's a quick swing like Jon Rahm or the smooth swing of Ernie Els. They all do it.
    It transforms the amateur's attempt at a swing, which is tense, stiff, robotic and usually over the top because of it,
    to a real swing of the golf club.
    Amazing video!

      My 3rd time thru this video (as well as his wealth of other vids) and starting to separate the chaff from the wheat! Tried various right sided swings, lawn mower, Malaska (a lot) and scapula dig R Shdr swings and they all have some good and bad but are either harder to implement for all clubs and not consistent strikes/distance or have to many moving parts or timing/sequencing. I know R elbow is secret because hit best wedges when pull R Shdr/elbow back and lousy when I don't. What is helping me is to remember to use L arm as a support for the right sided part of this swing (makes it easier to return to address with lean), relax the BSwing as you say (lawn mower and scap dig get tense so no go)as I get into an overhand throw position and keep it all compact. Gud check mark is to make 1/2 or 2/3 swings using the initial shdr (and elbow) move and check for impact/R Shdr thru. then u are almost gud to go for them all. Let u know after taking swing on longer clubs to course using this as best I can interpret.

    Hi Overhand you would be correct if you say the right shoulder and scapula bone and muscles starts the golf swing and not our hands. As Alison Thietje stated several years ago 2 and one half inches of our trail scapula moves our club head at maximum distance away from our body as long as our hands arms and wrists are passive, unlock and active altogether. In fact our weight shift even takes place on this one piece takeaway.
    However the primary fundamental of the golf swing is that ‘All’ the muscles in our body pulling working in tandem with ‘All’ the bones and joints in our body pushing altogether that powers the golf swing.
    The above being said; the golf club plays a major roll in the golfer swing as it is designed to do the very opposite the golfer does; except for the briefest moment when the golfer and the club head meets the ball at tremendous impact shared by both. Cheers

    When I start to search answers about golf swing the unanswered question in all caching systems was sources of force, because the golf club is a object that need to be accelerated and for acceleration the force is needed. No answers you can find in golf coaching industry they all speaks about speed un positions from good players. This is perfect you start to think about. There is lot of leverage based force sources in human body available . And correct uses of them can avoid all injuries in this sport.

    Why in a good baseball swing is the right hand (for right handed swing) released in the follow thru? And conversely in the golf swing both hands remain gripped to the club shaft.

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf

      Good question and the answer is you can let go with the right hand. There's a guy on youtube advocating this type of swing. As soon as the ball is gone it really doesn't matter what you do. That's like waving the barrel of the gun around after the bullet is gone and thinking it'll have some effect. We don't let go of the right hand just because it's convention. There is no reason at all we need to hang on with the right hand at all.

    Hey Greg: If I drop my trail shoulder straight down isn't that going to make it more likely I'll be swinging too much inside to out? That is already my major issue. I was having some success just swinging the club straight down from the top of the backswing.

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf

      It's not down and back it's down and around. Also, don't fix what isn't broken. If you're having success with something don't start adding new stuff to it all the time. I suppose I need to stop saying "straight down," in my descriptions. When I say straight down I don't mean vertically. I mean in a straight linear motion on a diagonal plane. Sorry, that's my fault.

    Maybe a way to think about the downswing throwing motion is to throw the right shoulder on a path that is "inside to out" and not "outside to in"...I know that my forehand in tennis MUST be an inside to out swing in order to get that effortless power and the serve is the same concept...the path of the racket swings from over your head and then up and to the right...it's WHERE the racket face is pointing that determines the direction of the ball. This counter-intuitive fact throws off many players because it feels like you're going to miss it way right. Players that swing outside to in have to muscle the ball and they never go very far in tennis.
