    I demonstrate why a golf club is so hard to use for many people and what they do wrong. Why you can't swing toward the target. Why your ball slices. The simple physics of how the golf club actually works and which direction the force needs to be applied. The holy grail swing assures that the clubhead will be moving straight down the target line at impact. The impact position is actually a recoil from the direction of force. The golf swing is like a child swinging on a swing-set it needs to be wide and smooth. If you try to hit AT the ball the club won't have the time it needs to square itself at impact. The direction of force needs to be applied to the club before the clubhead reaches the ball. It takes time for the energy to reach the clubhead and during that time we're still turning so by the time the energy gets to the clubhead it's well past the ball.

    I’ve been a playing pro for 20 years. My swing knowledge is pretty extensive. This insight is completely correct. You’re intention has to be tangential (literally and figuratively) to the aim of hitting the ball where you want it to go. Well done Overhand.

      It works because this is how the golf swing works. I'm just explaining golf in a way that makes sense. It's not that we're doing anything differently than good golfers, we're just getting there in a much faster and easier manner. I had to keep thinking about how to achieve the swing with force but in a way that everyone can understand and perform. It actually took years of trial and error and thinking and hypothesizing. There were a lot of nights I couldn't sleep because I knew I was on the verge of something good and didn't want to forget it. Most likely this is the most significant tip/advice you've ever gotten, so how 'bout a tip or donation? paypal.me/OverhandGolf. My wife says I'm wasting my time making and posting the videos. I'd like to prove her wrong.
      What I mean by significant is that you didn't have to do a bunch of ridiculous drills or buy my DVD or study a physics book, you listened, you understood and you performed. It's just that simple.

    I know this video was made over a year ago but just had to comment. This is correct! I bought the pro training aide to help with on where is the force being applied in the swing. It's well before you hit the ball. If you hit at the ball the rope is not taught and the swing isn't fluid. Plus speed is cut down. So it's important to throw momentum well before the ball being struck.

    Funny...if you think of the right shoulder, it is not even swinging to the 'target', it is rotating to the BALL. Your idea of trying to hit the ball with the bottom of the grip while swinging at a point behind the ball (yet on plane) forces the shoulders to allow the swing to happen instead of forcing it to happen. This puts the shoulders into the 'overhand throwing' position to allow the clubhead to 'fling' and square itself back to the setup square position. Genius man!

    Does the ball position in the stance change with shorter clubs or is it best to leave the ball in the same relative spot with all clubs? I would think since the clubs get progressively shorter, then the physics would dictate moving the ball toward center stance...but maybe I am wrong about that.

    Someone just dropping on your films probably thinks who is this guy ,he is not a professional so why is he trying to teach me. Fortunately for me I watched through your previous films and thought this guy may have got something here.. By the way the professionals swing you drool over in a previous film is David Griffiths who works with Dr Noel Rousseau .I practiced the imaginary ball move using a “Planeswing” before taking it to the course last weekend. I only had time to hit 1 practice ball on the range before teeing off but that 1 shot convinced me to persevere. With so little practice I did not produce some record breaking score but what I can say there were enough good shots coupled with really good ball striking that I will continue to employ your method so thank you for posting your films and sharing your insight into what is really happening in the golf swing to produce great shots. Frankly looking at some of the contorted positions some instructors want you to follow you would need paramedics on standby. So other you tube followers pleas do not dismiss this guy out of hand. Just give it a go , you might surprise yourselves. 7

      I'm not crazy! When I'd try to describe this stuff to friends they'd tune out and dismiss me before I could finish so they never got it. They continue to play badly and I'm nearly scratch ... again. Oddly, the better I play the angrier they get. Once you understand you truly can't imagine how you ever believed anything else. It's like math, once you learn it the wrong answer is comically ridiculous.
      I'm glad there are so many golfers out there desperate or crazy enough to listen and actually learn. I'm teaching how to produce golf shots that normally take years to learn by conventional golf instruction.
      Thanks for the info on David Griffiths. I asked Noel if I could use the video but never heard back so ...

Even in golf people try to reinforce their current beliefs even though they know it doesn't work. I have a friend who absolutely believes he can force the ball to do what he wants with sheer will, but the ball refuses to listen, and that makes him very angry. I think of it the other way around - what's the ball telling me?

    There are several steps in swing evolution that come after this one. Soon it will be very good at swinging forward and not down the target line. So good that you’ll develop a massive inside out swing and be hitting big pushes and hooks. At some point your swing will evolve into doing everything you can to feel like you’re coming over the top just so you can get it going straight down the target line. Have you ever watched Matt Wolf or Matt Kuchar make really exaggerated over the top practice swings? Wonder why they do that hmmm?

    Excellent addendum and additional explanation to the original ''Holy Grail'video. Tomorrow I'll be at the range and see if this '' left arm as a rope'' works. At first sight an always somewhat rigid left armt can't work as a rope. But we'll see. I still have to figure out if the stretching of the right arm in the ds (like a piston ?)really works with me sothat I can add some distance to my shots.

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf  3 роки тому +1

      In order to use the left arm like a rope you must have a good grip on the club and a good glove. If your grip is worn out or your glove is sweaty and slippery you'll have to hold the club too tightly for the arm to work properly. A good grip and glove allows you to hold the club gently which keeps the muscles of the left arm supple.

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf  3 роки тому

      You're just not used to it. Practice. You'll get it. These concepts works but they're not magic. You still have to practice.
      That being said, make sure you're not going too straight at the ball. You have to come into it wide. Wide =.smooth. Narrow = snappy recoil.

    • @1DCCX
      @1DCCX 2 роки тому

      If I may, you can swing out like this, and not forward at the ball, and not hit it fat if your mental picture of the clubhead attitude coming through the ball slightly downhill, closing and delofting and therefore the bi-product of this move/swing is a driving of the ball forward, not a scoop underneath.
      Basically you don’t trust the resultant loft to elevate the ball.
      Set the clubhead off in an attitude as shown above, but that results in the slightly downward passage through the ball with a clubface that I delofting and closing.
      Crudely, a 9 iron has 45 degrees of loft, it comes down at -5 degrees, effectively adding more loft; so swing the club in a way that produces an impact attitude that reduces loft by 10-15 degrees. That still gives you 35-40 degrees of loft striking the ball, which is a 7-8 iron’s loft.
      That is how the clubhead is actually designed to be used.
      If you don’t use it like this, you are flipping and adding loft, and it’s why good players hit penetrative, strong short irons that go between a 7 iron and 8 iron distance, and bad players hit high, lazy short irons. Good players basically turn their 9 irons into 8.5 irons.
      If you can’t get enough height when you swing through a ball like this, swing faster in this attitude, not do what a beginner does which is scoop and flip to add loft.

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf

      Sure. When the ball is struck, if done properly, you're not applying power to the club and so you could say you "released" it. Similar to swinging an axe into a tree - you apply the power then let the axe impact the tree on its own inertia. That's what creates those awesome strikes that you can barely feel and yet the ball rockets off the clubface.

How does this "swinging in the direction that the club shaft is pointing at address" square with believing that you are "underneath the club". In this video, you are not rotating you trail forearm backwards like you are in the video where you talk about being underneath the club. Is this "underneath the club" concept newer and therefore more important. If both are important, can you explain how to accomplish both being under the club while swinging in the direction that the club shaft is pointing at address. Thanks for any insights you can give.

    Our golf swing is a 2 pendulum swing of opposing forces pushing and pulling against themselves.
    As we with our first pendulum pushes back with the force of our entire body; our golf club the second pendulum is recoiling pulling against us..At the top of the downswing when we immediately change the direction of our swing pushing with the power of our entire bones and joints we immediately force the head of the club to repel against itself thus lagging behind us until our pendulum 1 meets with our golf club’s pendulum 2 at the exact spot when the club meets the ball. From there the momentum of the club recoils against us pulling us as we continue to push even harder with all our bones and joints to the finish of our swing when both stop together.
    Our golf swing is a power struggle between us and our golf club only to meet cooperatively at the bottom of our swing arch and only for the briefest moment of our 1 and one half second swing; when we both stop the action and counter action together.

      Yes, as you send the middle of the shaft downward the hands and handle of the club are driven toward the target so that by the time the clubhead reaches the ball the hands are well past it. I purposely didn't make backswing videos, well I made one, because when your intention in the downswing is correct you'll naturally create a good backswing in order to perform the proper downswing. 'Make sense? It's nearly impossible to make a proper downswing without making a good backswing so the intention of one causes the other. Most people think of it the other way around, thinking that if they make a good backswing they should have a good downswing but that's just not true.

Also, you shouldn't be making any conscious effort to close the clubface. It will happen on its own if you let it. If you close it too soon it fights back and wants to reopen through impact. It's all physics. The club is only square to the target line AND swing path at impact. Any attempt to rush that will assure that it won't happen properly.

Your left hand needs to be more like you're carrying luggage. Your knuckles should be closer to parallel to the shaft than perpendicular. Finally, I can see that you're not swinging at full speed and not actually hitting a ball so this isn't a real swing. In these videos you're not wide enough as you approach what would be a ball so the club recoils and you get a hitch at the bottom of your swing that snaps your hands and club over.

I truly believe this works.
    I’ve had amazing success with it, but I found that I’m lacking rotation when I’m applying this method.
    My main intention is to bounce the ball from the top. I’m mainly bouncing it with my right hand. Should I change this?

      Very good point! Have you ever wondered why children have such great golf swings? It's because children have no preconception of what a golf swing is or the physics of how a golf club works. Adults think they MUST swing in the direction of the desired ball flight. We do that in baseball, tennis ... virtually every other sport. So that's what adults try to do regardless of how many times it doesn't work, they just keep trying. Children don't care, so they just swing and quickly learn that if they swing the club toward the ground, in the direction of the ball, the ball goes toward the target. It's almost like the simplest puzzle in the world. Children learn to use a lever in minutes and some adults literally swing one for years and never learn to use it.
      If you like making 100 motions in a golf swing, be my guest. If you just want to swing and have the ball go far and straight without thinking, try the holy grail swing.
      Ok, the Holy Grail. Tiger and Phil do know it. Every good golfer does but they figured it out when they were young and have no idea that they're doing it. This is the main reason why people who start young are much better players. When we begin to play after we've developed the preconceptions it's very difficult for people to overcome.
      You're skeptical, I can see, but you'll try it because you're curious and hopefully you'll come back and explain how well it worked and that you couldn't believe it.
