    How can you know if you hit it where you were aimed if you don't know where you were aimed? You can't! Which is why so many golfers are so frustrated. You'd never pull the trigger on a gun without aiming it and golf is no different. Yet many of you simply guess where you're aimed and swing. You're adding variables into the process that can be completely removed.
    When you are aligned properly and you know it and trust it you can SIMPLY SWING. Butch Harmon said, "Swing like you're on the beach aiming at the ocean. You can't miss."
    You should never need to hit the ball anyway but straight.
    Many amateurs tend to aim right then try to hit the ball down the fairway resulting in a fade or slice that finished to the right of their alignment. Aim straight and you can swing straight.
    Golf should not be a struggle. Golf should not be hard. Golf is easy if you know the secret.
    Start playing golf well. Gain confidence and have more fun playing golf.
    Dustin Johnson, Cameron Champ, Rory McIlroy, Joaquín Niemann and Tommy Fleetwood all take great care in their aim and alignment.

    Standing with shoulders, hips, feet, closed to the target, encourages over the top or swinging across the target line, because the brain remembers where the target is and will guide the arms to follow that line.
    Eye Dominance...right handed / right eye dominant person will loose sight of the ball in back swing and tend to limit backswing or look up in order to see the ball. Anika Sorenstan, David Duval. They tend align too open to the target and swing across line for pulls. They should approach the ball from an oblique angle with intermediate target line in full view, step in with rear foot first and place the club down behind ball perpendicular to target line, then bring the front foot in. This sequence will allows the eyes to communicate the target to the brain and reduces the temptation of closing the front shoulder to the line. Get used to the "open" or "aimed left" feeling. Take pics or video or ask someone to check your alignment. It will actually be correct.
    Right handed/ Left eye dominant people can see the target because the dominant eye is out front and peripheral vision assures the brain the they are aligned.

      I don't really "look" at the ball at all. Like Bobby Jones said, "I'm simply aware of where it is." It's not moving and it's not going anywhere until I hit it.

    The Solution at the driving range is always to have in mind the intentional landing of where you want the ball to go. If you missed that spot, you know whatever you did needs ajustements on your part and so figure it out. Jack Nicklaus way as you demonstrate is obviously good; but if your ball still does not land on your intended target you need to find a different way. Cheers

    I was a caddie when I was a kid and one of the better golfers I caddied for smoked a pipe. On every shot he laid his pipe about 8" outside his ball aligned to his path. I picked up on it and when I played I had a skinny little bag and I would casually lay it down about a foot outside my ball aligned with my path. Not legal, but it helped a lot.

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf  3 роки тому +2

      Yes not legal. I had a person accuse me of doing that in a PLGA champions tournament once. I was off the green and deciding to chip or putt. I threw the unused club down and hit the chip. Afterward one of my playing partners asked if I was using the second club to align myself. I had literally thrown it down. So, now I always throw the extra club behind me where I can't see it.

  • @kentbernard9842
    @kentbernard9842 3 роки тому

    My slice solution came from Lee Trevino..."Aim Left, Swing Right, Walk Straight". Alignment and ball position is everything. Since most golfers tend to sand closed to the target line, they must get used to the percieved "feeling open" or "aiming left" of the target. They must adjust to extending the arms to hit the ball or "swing to the right (right field)". Proper setup and alignment goes a long way to eliminate over the top moves. Think of the front shoulder and left leg foot as the door hinge. Swing back opens the door. Downswing closes the door. Your hip can't cross into the wall. So, the hip and body must slide "back" along the wall so the shoulder hinge remains in place. The hinge area is where the club head will meet the ball. Unlike a door, your arms do not stop. Your arms shoulders continue past the "door frame" or ball and will pull your body and head around and the back leg follows around because the back hip leg foot comes forward to the target line on the toe without trying.
    Foot angle helps clear hips to allow arms to swing through. Check out overhand golf guy feet position and angles. Back foot square to line. Front foot is angled 45* forward. You don't "turn" or "fire hips". The hips just go back when foot pushes against the ground to counter the swing momentum.
    Practicing with and without alignment sticks is most important in training the brain to see proper aligment. Dominant eye should be understood as well. Bifocal glasses distort vision perception.

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf

      You're absolutely right. Many people cannot cure their slice because the refuse to align themselves properly and trust it.

    Intermediate point is a must... but no more then a foot in front of the ball. And a remember your mind will try to fight u on this once you're over the ball. Its your eye sight messing with you.. trust your Intermediate point. It will feel like your hitting it way right, for a right handed golfer. Anyway thats my experience..
    Another thing to do is try and predict your ball flight.. fade, draw, high or low.
    Cheers mate and stay safe

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf  3 роки тому

      You're right. I've been doing this for so long that I'd forgotten what it felt like when I first started. I remember thinking, 'that can't be right,' because it felt like I was setup to the right of the target. I'd back off and check it again and it was correct. It's amazing how we get used to an improper setup. I see players all the time setup wildly offline, especially on a hillside lie and I have to stop them and say, 'Where are you aiming, 'cause you're pointed way over there.' They always disagree with me and I have to tell them I wouldn't have stopped you if you were aimed properly.

      @@HolyGrailOfGolf ... you and shawn clement are the only teachers I've ever come across that's got it right. Everyone else is focused on some body part always with a new drill that will magically change your swing. If you learn to throw the club everything will follow. When you are trying to hit the ball and the ball is your target there is no need to clear the hips, no lag, no posture... you need to gove yourself a different task. And your mind can only be at one place at a time. When a tennis player serves the ball his mind is not on the ball, but at a point on the other half of the court. Again thanks for sharing and I hope things will turn around for your business... cheers mate

    Well, I’m afraid I’ve been a little sceptical of all of this stuff. After 2 days of swing practice in my backyard I finally made it out onto the course today for 9 holes.
    The first hole, (I was playing two balls) started and ended with balls going so far left that they almost came back at me boomerang style. “What the hell am I doing here”. After some quick thinking I realised that I was just throwing the club out the back of my swing without doing the downward part, (hitting with the shaft). Hole 2 saw two beautiful tee shots straight down the middle with a slight fade. The rest of the round was the same. No real effort. Just thinking that if I follow the instructions then all will be good. Faith. And it was. No super long distance yet but I can work on that. The irons went perfectly straight too. Hopefully, I can convert my pals after this weekend’s competition.
    Thank you many times for this instruction. It will become my “stake in the ground” from now on.

    (@ 4:50) will that alignment produce a slice when paired with a (somewhat) straight golf swing path? I have been battling a slice for the past few months. I consciously opened my stance up on the tee box and tried to account for a slice and ended up hitting straight. Also, I've heard beginner golfers tend to have a closed stance because they're not used to looking over their shoulder lining up.

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf

      Aiming left or open is far better than aiming closed. Also, you shouldn't be looking over your shoulder toward the target. When you learn to aim properly you'll feel like you're open to the target but once you get used to it you can't live without it.

    I think people start creeping their body more and more closed before they hit cause they have the face way to closed and cupped on set up. They don’t set the club down, set feet and shoulders., then set grip. They set grip first and then line body up to compensate it.

    I'm glad you didn't lay the clubs on the ground. Most golf courses your lie is seldom perfectly level. Alignment is actually a function of where the ball exits your rotation. Your axis point changes with every change in elevation. You have to feel that as you set up. I used to use the alignment spot method...Jack Nicklaus uses it. But I now like to just start behind the ball, then approach the ball very open to the target looking at the target as you change your view to "under." Take dead aim at the target. The target always in your mind as you make natural setup adjustments. Got both my hole in ones this way. I would never pick an intermediate target throwing a ball to someone.....feels unnatural for me. But some have improved their alignment issues in golf using this method.

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf  3 роки тому

      Good point about throwing a ball. In that case, we're not looking at the ball either. Although, when throwing a ball there's no anxiety, at least for most of us. We simply know how to do it the best we can and we never question it. So many people are literally scared to hit the golf ball and this definitely relieves stress.
