Every good player has learned to hit the ball where they are aligned AND NOT WHERE THEY WANT IT TO GO. Dustin Johnson, Cameron Champ, Rory McIlroy, Joaquín Niemann and Tommy Fleetwood, every good player does not hit the ball where they want it to go but rather where they are aligned. This is why why you see a pro hit a shot off-line, the first thing they do is check their alignment. When an amateur hit a shot off line he either makes up an excuse or says he just hit it badly and that's because they were trying to direct the ball toward their target whereas a pro is simply hitting the ball toward where they are aligned. There is a big difference. When you're trying to hit the ball toward a target that you are not aligned toward it's not only hard but often the ball ends up going exactly where you're aligned. How many times, have you heard someone say, "You hit it right where you were aimed."
Golf should not be a struggle. Golf should not be hard. Golf is easy if you know the secret. Start playing golf well. Gain confidence and have more fun playing golf.

Greg, I think that the statement you mentioned 'You have to give up control to gain control' would help a whole lot of us out there trying to put so much tension on our swings instead of just hitting the ball more freely. Thanks for your videos Greg. Take care and stay strong.

Yes, that's exactly right. It's nearly impossible to hit the ball well if you're anxious or scared that it won't go where you want ... and then people try to steer it and that's a sure fire recipe for disaster.

Very true in your statement, a lot of people try “too hard”. But 5mm off the sweet spot of the face the ball is already off target. Yes you should let the club do the work, but the golfer still need to guide the club face into the ball with accuracy. Or else to your theory we can hit a good shot while eyes close or blind folded. Keep up the good work, luv the new ideas and theories of this channel. Very insightful, not just another everyday YT golf channel.

Absolutely brilliant question, chad. A true Million dollar question in golf.
Golf swing is a simple body action. The biomechanics of the swing should simply be executed by the brain which knows the abilities of one's body. There isn't a cookie-cutter golf swing fitting-all and fitting-one all season, all life.
But long ago we took over, became our own brain surgeons. Remember the P1-P10 crap and the millions of training aids, videos, books, lessons, etc. We are totally messed up now.
The best way to learn swiming is to let the brain know human body floats. Get into the water, don't do shit, you float, then gently flip feet and hands, you move. YES, within 60 freaking seconds you are swimmer now.
You are great, Chad. You are the only person indulging thoughts in this direction on the net which I find it amazing.
Now the next question is, what do I tell my brain about golf swing so that my brain would execute a natural biomechanical swing fitting my physique at that swing time?
Hope the answer will be out soon. Thanks Chad, I truly wish to see you come back financially. 🙏

Hi Overhand glad to hear you are back.
Thank you for pondering on the golf swing.
Having said this I sincerely hope you find your next door to health, wealth and happiness You sound a little despondent today; so I wish you well in whatever negative things you are going through.
Within this video; you are 100 percent correct! That once we achieve the correct grip; no manipulation of the club head with our hands and wrists needs to take place as we swing our club back and forth in the manner you have shown and prescribed in past videos.
Although i must ask you: Is the golf swing really more horizontal like a helicopter’s wing as opposed to vertical like a plane’s wing?
    Let’s see now?
At the center of our swing are our rotating hips that propels our body back and then forth more like a helicopter’s wing. Correct? So then that makes our arms more like a plane’s wing that vertically turns up and then down and up again in conjunction to our helicopter rotating hips. Correct? So since we are on a slanted plane; our swing is actually both. Is it not?
And yes alignment is the key to sending our ball in the direction we want it to go. However just before we swing you would think us golfers would need to know exactly where the low point of our swing arc is as we align ourselves to the ball. Wouldn’t you?
Personally I discovered that immediately at the back of my lead hand lies the low point of my particular swing arch no matter where my ball is located on the golf course. The idea now to even have considered the location of my ball relative to the front foot during an actual game of golf seems ludicrous to me now. So with my new found knowledge I simply check where the back of my lead hand is facing just before I do your imaginary side ball downward vertical swing and with my helicopter’s wing moving at the exact same time there goes my ball to my intended target. Cheers

Shawn and every other instructor never once addresses if the student understands how the club works or which direction to swing it so that it does work correctly. There’s a phenomena I’ve named, “unconscious proficiency delusion,” which is that those who have learned to become proficient at golf unconsciously believe they understand what it is they’re doing when in fact they actually don’t. So, when they tell you to do this, which is what they think they do, and you actually do it, it doesn’t work because that isn’t what they’re actually doing.

I understand what you're saying.......but shouldn't it be more from the context that as you use your method (Holy Grail) you try to hit the floor a metre behind the ball with the flat of the club shaft, and as you reach your anatomical limit with your right arm, it pulls you through and round, strikes the ball which somehow hits it straight? I have recently used your method with great success, and find if I stay in posture and don't even look at the target.....assuming I perform the technique properly, it does indeed go straight, without all even looking at the target.....

Delighted to see a vid of yours pop up. With respect, I don’t think a Tour player can be a yard stick for “just hitting the ball”. I could equally hypothesise that such a person has developed fine motor control from playing since 4 yrs of age and practicing hours upon hours every day. Tiger has always talked about how he feels everything through his hands; speed and face direction. He is not just “hitting the ball and trusting it”. Furthermore, tour players hit fades & draws at will. That is fine motor control of the hands/wrists. Cheers

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf  2 роки тому +1

I see your point but I don't think you're seeing mine. I watch people all the time "trying" to hit the ball in a direction instead of just hitting it and letting it go that way. When they do this they manipulate the club in ridiculous ways that puts spin on the ball and reduces the energy transfer. The thing is that every good player has learned to trust their alignment and swing. If you don't you can't swing with confidence. I suppose you could also call this the driving range effect. On the range people are simply hitting the ball and watching where it goes and normally they're very happy with that, but as soon as they get to the course they try to hit it in a direction and everything changes. "I was killing it dead straight on the range and now I can't hit a fairway!" If you haven't tried this yourself, and I mean really try it, I think you'll be amazed at the results.

    • @johnnybravo9087
      @johnnybravo9087 2 роки тому

I get you. For me your observation only applies to the non-athletic type, which granted is the majority of handicapped golfers. I see your demonstrated “guided” swing every day also. However if I swing without regard for the outcome my driver slices about 60 yards right. Conscious thought of squaring it from transition gives me much better results. For context my regular swing speed is 110mph. I wonder if your observations only apply to those sub app. 95 mph?

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf  2 роки тому +2

@@johnnybravo9087 From your point of view that would make sense except that, I mean no insult, there is something very wrong with your swing or most likely your grip if you unguided swing sends the ball that far right. The interesting thing about that is that you've probably gotten very used to making whatever compensation is necessary and you're very used to it. In my opinion that makes golf much more of a game of precise timing. When I hear someone say something like, "I forgot to close the clubface," I wonder, "Do they actually have to close it on every swing?" There could be another reason your ball goes right and that if the shaft doesn't match your swing speed.
Thanks for taking the time to explain your point. I think it's a good basis for another video.

@@HolyGrailOfGolf Absolutely I accept that i could have a serious flaw in my technique. But I can’t fault my effort in terms of trying to discover it! The pursuit of a sub conscious technique is what has me excited by every video you release. But I must admit that you need to address the tour players’ feel for fading and drawing the ball with fine motor control. My reference for conscious face control is P Harrington ua-cam.com/video/TWswmz_XE7c/v-deo.html. Much respect, Johnny

@@johnnybravo9087 Good point. I used to hit a pretty big draw and sometimes I'd need a hook to get out of where that draw put me but lately I've been hitting a tiny fade with the driver and basically straight with irons and I found I have almost no need to work the ball. As they say, "The same shot that got you there is the one that's going to get you out." I purposely haven't made any videos about working the ball because most people are just looking to learn how to hit it straight and there's not a course in the world that you can't play with a straight ball.
But I do have to disagree with you slightly. I think the most pros do work the ball with mechanics and not simply muscular timing. If I need to fade or slice the ball I'll grip it weak and strike the ball from out to in and for a hook I just grip is super strong. I know some pros have said they simply think fade or draw but I don't think works for most people.

Last season (pre grail swing) I played my best golf after reading the Bob Rotella books. His idea is simply to swing freely towards the target. Once you get aligned, what else is there to do really? I have played my last 3 rounds fully implementing the grail. My irons are a club longer and my woods are so much longer that I am still trying to figure out how far they will go. Once I get the grail swing in my subconscious mind, The only thing I will need to do is align myself and swing freely towards the target. I am 100% committed to the grail. Hogan's clubs were at least 8 degrees flatter than modern standard.
The modern club that drives me insane are crazy upright drivers.
Hogan's was 48 degrees where a modern is around 60 degrees!
It's a really bad fix for open clubface golfers, which is most golfers.

"you have to give up control, to gain control." Paul Azinger
In order to "give up control" you must first "have control."
    Q: Control of what?
A: Control of the golf swing.
Q: How do you get control of the golf swing?
    A: Learn, practise etc.
Once you "have control" or at least control of all you can control, you can then have something you can give up control of, but do we really want to give up control of our golf swing?
Based on the assumption one "has control" in the first place (which most do not, hence the channel and lives dedicated to teaching others to "get control", what are we giving up control of? the very thing we spent hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars getting control of?
I'll add one word and give it more accuracy but less meaning:
"you have to give up controlling control, to gain control"
That is the mental state, in which, that which has been brought under control can be fully realised. Any "control" of that which has been brought under "control" will destroy all that has been brought under control.
"you have to give up control (of all you have under control),
to gain control (of that which you have under control)"

Man, you're worse than me. Too much thinking about golf.
I disagree with the idea that we have to have control to give it up. No, it's the desire for control that's causing all the problems. The more we try to control the less control we have over the golf ball. The idea is to stop trying to control it, just hit it with a good golf swing and HAVE it go where you want, instead of trying to force it. We've all done this when hitting a shot we don't care about or didn't think about and the ball flew perfectly far and straight. Those shots are always followed by, "Why can't I hit it like that all the time!?" The answer is simple, instead of just letting it happen you tried to MAKE it happen and YOU got in the way.

1st Control: is either the golf swing or the golf ball.
2nd Control: is either the golf ball or the golf swing.
      Which is it?

@@truthlifefishing1730 The ball, most people are desperately trying to control the ball. In order to actually do that successfully we have to learn how to stop trying to control it. The attempt to control the ball is what makes its direction and flight erratic.
If your objective was to simply hit a spot on the right side of the ball and the ball didn't go anywhere or exploded, you could probably do that really well with a little practice you could hit that side of the ball easily. There would be no need to manipulate any part of the swing in order to attempt to manipulate the ball flight so you'd develop a very consistent strike on the right side of the ball. I know that's confusing, but that's what has to happen. You have to learn how to just hit the ball, with almost no care for where it goes -- other than your alignment -- and accept where it goes. When you do that, they go where you intend! Looking where you want the ball to go is like looking where you want a bullet to go without aiming the gun. Ain't gonna happen ...

Yeah, I think I'm just not used to doing a monologue. When I talk to people I stop every few seconds and let them respond but when doing a monologue I don't know when to take a breath. Or, as one guy suggested there might be something wrong with my heart. It is annoying though.
