What’s the big deal about Link ECUs!? They’re one of our favorite products, so we want you to understand:
1. How they can improve your car?
2. When you should consider upgrading from the factory ECU?
3. The options that are available?
How they can improve your car?
• A correctly selected, installed and configured Link ECU can completely control your engine package.
• The most important part of complete control is having complete tunability of the ECU, in order to achieve an optimal tune for your engine.
• When tuned by a professional, benefits can include:
o Increased power and torque output
o An engine that drives smoothly
o Improved economy, if you can control your righty foot!
o Basic engine safety features, to reduce the chance of engine damage.
• Link ECUs can also improve your car with additional features including:
o Boost control through the ECU, allowing for multiple settings, boost by gear or boost by throttle.
o Flex fuel capability, allowing you to run E85, pump gas, or any combination of the two.
o Advanced engine safety features where additional sensors can be added to further protect the engine from damage when run outside of desire parameters.
o Launch control to provide fast take-off.
o Anti lag to improve boost response.
o Flat foot shifting for fast and smooth gear changes.
o Ghost-cam/Cyclic idle to give an aggressive sound when idling.
o Advanced configurability allows for a huge range of additional functions to be added, specific to your application and purpose.
o Traction control to control the power delivery when traction is limited.
o Datalogging gives the ability to record information about the engine inside the ECU, which can be reviewed for trouble shooting, to improve performance, or even improve race times.
o Run a race dash!
When you should consider upgrading from the factory ECU?
• Deciding to install a Link ECU isn’t always straight forward, and there are some instances where we would retain the factory ECU, or even use an alternate brand of ECU.
• Let’s look at the basic reasons we’d recommend upgrading to a Link ECU:
o If your factory ECU isn’t easily tunable, or
o If your factory ECU is tunable, however has constraints that will be limiting for the power you’re chasing.
o You want to use some of the additional features that Link ECUs can provide
o You’ve performed an engine swap, by fitting a different engine to your vehicle.
The options that are available?
• When it comes to fitting a Link ECU to your vehicle, there are two main options - Plug-in and Wire-in.
o Plug-in Link ECUs are the most common type we install, as they’re easy and cost effective. They replace the factory ECU and plug directly into the factory wiring. They have an expansion harness for wiring in a few additional sensors, switches or outputs.
o These are vehicle specific, so are only available for specific range of vehicles. Check the Link in the description to see if there is a plug-in ECU available for your vehicle.
o The plug-in ECU is a good option if your wiring loom is in good condition and you only require a small amount of additional inputs and outputs.
o Wire-in Link ECUs are just that, an ECU that is wired into the factory wiring loom, or has a complete replacement wiring loom made to suit the engine and vehicle.
o We typically use a wire in ECU in an application that doesn’t have a plug-in option available, or the requirements are a little more serious than a plug-in can offer.
o In general, we use these on vehicles that have had an engine transplant, are a full race car, are building a full wiring harness or need functions and features that are beyond what a standard plug-in ECU can offer.
In conclusion, we believe that Link ECUs are one of the best on the market.
1. They can improve the performance of your vehicle and offer countless additional features.
2. When you need great tunability and want to push the limits of your vehicle, we recommend considering a Link ECU.
3. With a range of both plug-in and wire in ECUs, there will be an option to suit your needs.

Thanks man ! excellent videos brother !
Very light on the customer service in North America.
Thanks pat! This is exactly what I was looking for and needed to know. Cheers!
Thanks nzgSPLITKIT 👍
@@PossumBourneMotorsport can you guys do a video installing a wire in ecu?
@@nzgSPLIKIT Good idea, will put it on our list. Thanks
@@nzgSPLIKIT that's a great idea! We have a few projects coming up that we could certain show the installation of a wire in ECU. Is there anything specific you'd want to know or see?
Awesome, that would be great! My ecu needs to be replaced along with the wiring as recommended by Mitsubishi. I don't anything, so everything is good info for me. Would definitely like to see how to make it all tidy and cost effective so I can make the right choice for my own car
are there any link options for a 1uz?
How much just a ball park figure for the wire in harness ? Doing a lsa conversion on a camaro thinking about using link cheers
Great informative video Pat.
Thanks Bobby! Is there anything you'd like to see in the future?
@@PossumBourneMotorsport I would like to see a turbo charger buying guide or comparison video of somesort.
@@BobbyLowedesign Great idea, we'll put it on our radar!
@@PossumBourneMotorsport which ecu fits my 2011 subaru impreza ej20 engine non turbo
@@MrHatersdie Hi Said, in your case I recommend refreshing the factory ECU unless you are planning significant upgrades. Feel free to give us a call on 09 238 5732 to discuss your options further. Kind Regards, PBMS
Hey awesome video. Ive just bought a plugin v7 wrx link g4+. Is it highly recommended to get an IAT sensor? And is Idle Cyling bad for your car? Cheers
Hi CJ, yes I do recommend installing a IAT sensor. Cyclic idle does not harm your car. If you need help with installation and tune please let us know. Thanks PBMS
How does it go when the air conditioning is on?
For a K20 swapped car, is it worthwhile going standalone / Link G4x over hondata, if you weren't able to use an adapter loom.
Standalone is way better than any piggback
I want to do a 1jzgte vvti swap into a 98 altezza SXE10 what's the best option for me
It depends on the wiring harness you're going to run. Link do a JZX100 plug in, if you're going to run a stock JZX100, you can use the plug in ECU, otherwise we'd recommend something like a Link Fury.
How well does this ecu handle controlling a automatic trans?
Hi William, depends what vehicle you've got. Link does support a bunch of automatic vehicles but not all. Please feel free to send me an email to patrick@possumbournemotorsport.com to discuss this further. Kind Regards Pat
Could plz suggest for my car which ecu best
Toyota camry 2003. Automatic transmission
Hi, for your car I am not aware of any plug and play options. You could look at wiring an ECU in or run a piggy back set up with a Kurofune or similar. Kind Regards PBMS
OEM Toyota ECU
Have you added any of the aftermarket trigger kits for rb26 using this ECU?
Yes! This ECU is highly configurable and has worked with all aftermarket trigger kits we've ever come across including Ross Performance, Platinum Racing Products and other similar ones.
@@PossumBourneMotorsport nice. You're making my choice really easy. What are the biggest differences between the NGTR+ and the NGTRX?
@@SRZRB the NGTRX is essentially the newer, slightly better version, with a faster processer and improved software. They are both highly capable ECUs and you won't go wrong with either.
I have a Evo VII GTA that I'm looking to manual swap in the near future. But because it is a Japanese import I need to have it tuned to Aussie fuel. Would it be worth getting an ECU upgrade before the swap?
Hi Owen, the Ecu will be best to do at time you're looking to convert to manual as the plug in Link G4x is likely not going to work with the auto trans. A reflash is your best option in the meantime
@@PossumBourneMotorsport thanks so much for the reply! I'll keep the ecu for when I swap then
Very interesting. Would this ECU be suitable for a 300zx TT (Z32) Auto?
Hi Martin, unfortunately not. There is a plug in Link G4+ for the 300ZX but you'd need to convert to manual trans.
Link g4 ecu ..are these a standalone ecu that replaces the stock ecu?
Yes, exactly. They can be fitted as a piggyback, but 99.9% of the time they're fitted as a replacement ECU.
What link ecu am I looking at for a 02 sg5 turbo please 🙏
Most likely a V7, however there are a few NZ new versions that don't run variable cam timing so may be a V5/6 variant. Are you able to drop us a line?
Kay, my buddy was telling me he had a plug in link ecu for his s14, and it could control the speed the windows went up and down.. Is this true??
Hi Jeremy, I can see that happen but would require additional parts and labour to make that functionality work. Not something we have been asked for yet but you can definitely do a lot of cool stuff with it.
See that where I think the guys bullshitting me haha. He doesn't know wiring at all, just plugged it in and said he could change the speed of the windows
Hi, I've just done a new motor rebuild on my evo 9 with new cams and Injectors and instead of taking it to a tuner for a breakin tuner and then another tune, would the link g4 be something worthwhile to buy and do a breakin tune myself?
Hi Jethro, my recommendation is to fit a Link G4+ at your preferred shop (we can supply you), then perform the run in on the Dyno, perform oil and filter change and proceed with the tune. Where are you located? Kind Regards, PBMS
@@PossumBourneMotorsport I was leaning towards going in that direction, still decising, does the G4 have any advantages over the Motec and Haltech setups?
@@jethrox827 perfect. The Hsltech equivalent is on par with the Link. Motec depends what series you are running. M1's are another step up but that also comes at a cost.
@@PossumBourneMotorsport ok thanks who would be your best customer friendly tuner in sydney?
@@jethrox827 cant comment too much in that regard unfortunately as we aren't in contact with any tuners in Sydney. I'd do some research and ask other people for their experiences
Just dream to me huhuhu
can the old g4 run speed density
Yes absolutely still a great ECU. Kind Regards PBMS
@@PossumBourneMotorsport last question, does it support the oem knock sensor on gc8
@@alitoroganan2442 just had a chat with Link and on the G4 that isn't an option. With the G4+ you can. Kind Regards PBMS
Could I pass smog if I wire it up right? 😉
If you still have a functioning catalytic converter and car is tuned correctly then you will pass the emissions test.
@@PossumBourneMotorsport California smog? So the smog tech doesn't check for aftermarket ecu?
Is there any way to get the link to run an automatic transmission? I'm running a 2002 is300 in the United states, I really did not want to do a transmission swap so if this could be done it would be outstanding, thank you.
Hi Jice, with autos its tricky. Generally it is a no and the best way to utilise a Link ECU on a non supported auto car is with the Kurofune as a piggy back install. Tuning can then happen via the piggy back set up but factory computer still controls all other functions.
@@PossumBourneMotorsport thank you for the knowledge and I will for sure look into that piggyback as I am only looking to make 300 to 400 crank hp and be able to easily put it back to stock for emissions purposes, thank you!
@@PossumBourneMotorsport can you reccomend a pnp harness for this piggyback or does it have to be wired in to a car like the is300?
@@jicez6649 no not aware of any. A good shop can make a custom adapter loom for you which will be the best option. Kind Regards PBMS
If you don't mind manual shifting an auto find out which solenoid's are activated by 12V relative to the gear selected. Then make a wee touch terminal thing on the shifter mechanism.
Daahm sponsored by reiger suspension? You must be doing great when having them on board. There a local company here
