It does seem a lot of work for very little gain until you see what angle he's coming from - example once he adds a blower of descriptions - he can really get the most out of it. Plus thats hp at the wheels. Not engine.
my 09 R6 does 110 hp at the rear wheel...BUT i will acknowledge there was a heck of a lot of engineering to get there. As mentioned above (and probably below) Jobe is probably getting ready to add a power adder.
While I love how well Zach explains things and educates the viewers, one thing cracks me up. "So we're going to add a standalone ECM" Ok, easy. "Now we just have to add this sensor, this switch, this gauge, this other sensor, some power wiring, a couple other parts, tear apart the dash, behind the seat, some wiring under the hood, and that's it!" . . . .for a standalone ECM :D

To clarify, I love the whole crew at donut and totally understand that everything was rushed and on a tight budget.
For real. As much fun as it was to watch them go from stock to built (if you could call them that) was really disappointing that the end result for the HiLow Zs was $70k dumped into two cars that both ended up with serious problems, can't even draw a good conclusion from that

I just hope that in future seasons they have a chance to take a little more time to really get all the bugs worked out before the cars (or maybe trucks) get beaten to death because they just weren't ready to be run that hard. I wouldn't be the slightest bit upset if sometimes the video ended with "Well, we didn't get as much done today as we'd hoped but we'll be back at it next week" rather than watching all of this work getting rushed and at the end having the summary be "We don't know if more expensive means more better because both cars are toast." Here on the internet, everyone wants the instant gratification of a modification completely installed in a single video and the whole car built on a rigid timeline, but in the real world it just isn't always easy to do it quickly AND do it properly. As an automotive community, I hope the Donut fanbase can accept that and give the teams some time to really make sure all the mods are properly supported so we can finally know if more expensive really is more better
I'm still waiting for a HiLow oil cooler episode, I hope one day they will have it. I have to agree in hindsight the series did feel incredibly rushed...
The series does feel rushed but it kinda has to be from a production budget standpoint. They can't pay cameramen and sound guys to stand around and film them build cars for a month. The shorter a time frame they can accomplish filming in the better. It just leads to the cars being half finished in terms of reliability. Ultimately I feel like the point of the series was to show some of the realities of modifying a car, especially one you're intending to keep as a daily driver which it mostly accomplishes. Its marketed more casually and is intended more for entertainment than to be informative. It would be nice if they included some more explanation of the technical aspects of building the cars though.

You've still wired the power to the relay switch window fuse. If that fuse activates for any reason. For instance a jammed window and the motor over currents the fuse and the fuse activates, the relay that powers the ECU will open and the ECU will shut off. The ignition switches usually feeds current back to the fuse panel, where it's current is routed through several fuses for various different accessories. It would be better to run the relay switch line to the key, or the back of the fuse panel.

Its layin the ground work....
@@orderofmagnitude-TPATP exactly.. Can you say forced induction?
Seriously I can't stress how much this video helped me out with my mega squirt in my foxbody since my tuner has been closed since Laura thank you donit media
"Lets do some brain surgery" I do not believe this man is a qualified surgeon
Next episode: "Are Turbo's Worth It?"
Dude! MicroMachines were the best back in the day. I grew up in the 80s and 90s and I had tons of them!!
Why is your miata so big? Zack: I feed it well
Next video idea: "James passes Smog with a tuned ECU"
They are always talking about smog. How many states in the US actually check emissions. Because where I live we don’t
Nicholas tucker More than you think with the largest being California.
Nicholas tucker I just passed emissions in CT with my 5.0 swapped ranger. Not very hard as long as your rear O2 sensors and EGR are working and you have cats.
Thumper5.0Ranger I’ve only got a dog, is that gonna be a problem?
Joseph Redfern dogs are more efficient I hear lol
Paul Walker would be proud of that hair bro! Love this series, feels like the path we all take on our rides, taking it one mod at a time. Keep up the good work!
What happened to the price of the parts? I miss that. Especially when it comes to big parts.
Megasquirt ain't cheap, usually around a grand
That specific ecu is about 1200 to 1300, a wideband kit would cost about 200.
Install yourself? Expensive.
Install by a shop? Your first born.
I love how they are professionally corny lol its hilarious
This show makes me "appreciate / realize how crazy" project binky is .
Finally bought a Miata and money pit has never been more relevant in my life 🥺❤️
I’m looking for one if you don’t mind how much did you pay for yours
Johnathan Godbout I can answer that for you, when I bought mine in May it was 4K. It was a lot cleaner than most though
@@johnathangodbout2297 bought one for $5k. 90k miles and super clean. Prob overpayed but it was the best I could find in LA haha
$500 with a salvage title and the smell of gas fumes.
Johnathan Godbout I was in the market for an NA or NB in California/Oregon. Market prices were steady $6-7k for clean examples. Found some in the $4-5k range, but you gotta be quick they get snatched up same day. I was searching for a good 8 months lmao. Finally came across a crazy deal on a car I thought I couldn’t afford. 2005 Mazdaspeed Miata, which most sell in the $9-12k range. Picked mine up, 2 owner, owned by a really nice 68 year old, for $6500 with 109k on the odom. An absolute steal!! Drove it to California from Eugene, made one hell of a road trip. Didn’t think I’d be able to get my hands on a factory Trbchrgd Miata, but I really got lucky..
Who else randomly found Donut Media one day and has been watching ever since?
There's ur 1 sub
yep
Basically how youtube works maybe??
3rd sub
I don't even own a car. At all.
When I think of car videos or TV this is what I think of. Teach me what my absent father wanted to but never could. Thank you Donut.
"brains is still a little bit behind"
Same bro, same.. 😔
Next will be "Is a Supercharger worth it?"
please
Turbo bro
Supercharger is at least more reliable
The Mazdaspeed version of the Miata N/A came with a 1.6L Supercharged engine or a 1.8L supercharged engine. I think a turbo/turbos would be better
I had a supercharged na miata and yes way worth it, had around 200whp on 10psi

Donut media: MICRO MACHINES ARE THE BEST
Hotwheels: Am I a joke to you?
I can’t wait till it says “Is a Turbo Kit really worth it?”
they tested it on 350z's
I love how the sponsor is literally just a toy maker
Dude, u seem a lot more in rithym with ur own brain when ur doing and explaining the technical side. I enjoy all ur videos but now I'm learning new things and it's great. Thanks yo!
I love this channel so much, I'm saving up for an mx 5 myself
The only person I’ve ever seen hyped for 112 HP 💀
Thats why zach is just the best
It's on a miata... That's why lol
Hyped on getting my car from 60 to 95hp
bruh I'm gonna be happy when my old ass bmw makes the advertised 110

Even though half of it went over my head it’s still so good to watch
Smort.
I wish James had said “back to the jobe”
Nope. Zach to the show!
steve wanke ooh, that’s good.
