Marcy Playground, Harvey Danger, Blind Melon, The Toadies, etc. So many bands from the 90’s with only one hit that in actuality churned out tons of great songs and albums. What a decade for music.
god i love harvey danger, little by little is probably one of my favorite albums and marcy playground is great too
I love the toadies
@@dylsstuff Seriously Little By Little is criminally underrated.
Fastball..mazzy star..
I smell see
And candy yeah
one of the most underrated bands of all time!!!!!!!!!
They are still putting out albums. Good ones, too.
I had no idea.
Just got Marcy Playground on CD, holy shit it's good...
I agree but if you really wanna see underrated, check out Blue Oyster Cult.
Everyone knows Sex and Candy but they actually have several solid tracks
It doesn't sound like Nirvana it sounds like Marcy Playground those grunge riffs are just the sound of the 90's
tbh their music reminds me of meat puppets more than a silly nirvana comparison.
That's right Max, besides it's okay to be inspired by other great musicians.
Haha no way people actually compared this to Nirvana?
@Marvin Morawski yeah haha. The main guitar riff sounds like it's a couple notes off busting into "come as you are". I hear it every time
john wosniak is a fan of kurt
I had an Aunt Mary that I never got to meet, because she took her life before I was born. This song is bittersweet. I played it for my mom (Mary's sister), and she actually truly enjoyed it.
I also had a great-aunt Mary. This song makes me cry.
I am losing my mind. I'm building a playlist for a friend ten years younger than me who wasn't allowed to listen to secular music growing up, inevitably fell down a rabbit hole and I was OBSESSED with this song as a kid.
Hope that playlist came out well. I’d love to hear it
Howd that playlist come out
@@RafaelRodriguez-wi6ew yeahhh really want an update!
Yes please give us an update!!!
I never finished and it lost its way. He stopped responding and he went dark on all his socials.. he had a decent following on Tik Tok and has posted since November. So. Yeah. Kinda worried.
But here's the unfinished playlist:

I found this cd on the ground when I was biking over to my friend's house waay back in the day lol been a fan ever since.
LMAFO REALLY THE SAME SHI HAPPENED TO ME BUT I WAS WALKING
this album saved my life about 18 years ago.
@CosmoGrenouille Le batracien KoSmIk I have not been able to reply to anything google for a few months.so sorry that missed this, yet so very glad that i have sen it now. I hear ya. we are never alone if we have connections.
i feel that way about a few bands from my youth. soundgarden particularly.
music is interesting
@@Darkness-ie2yl I mother earth 'Dig' helped me also. I love soundgarden
I dont know how it did, but I am glad that it did. This album came out when I was in 6th grade, and it was one of the first CDs I ever owned. Truly has a special place in my mind/heart, as it obviously does for you as well.
Music is beautiful that way
They're so underrated :(
+xBDizzLe their self titled album is one of the greatest albums ive ever listened to
+Spooky Toof true dat
Heck yeah!
@@Spookytoof ye
This album has got to be one of the most underrated of all time Most people only know Sex & Candy and there was soooo much more where that came from. Truth is, that wasn't nearly the best song on the album...and it's a good song for sure. Poppies, Cloak of Elvenkind, Sherry Fraser, THIS song and wow...not a bad track on the album at all.
Cloak of evlen kind was the gem there, yat there is to my knowledge no bad songs.but the book of elvenkind is the D&D anthem
@Ethan Hammons It's about getting bullied on the bus as a kid. John Wozniak said he was picked on and eventually bullied other kids because of it.
one more suicide is easily one of the greatest songs from the 90s period. this album and presidents of USAs debut are so underrated by the mainstream.
@@thinkpadBentnoseTheBlind Agreed, Cloak of Elvenkind is my favourite
Just saw these guys perform on Freemont St in Downtown LV. They shared a stage with Everclear and rocked! MOST.90'S.SHOW.EVER!
saw them back in 98 they were magnificent! this was always one of my favorites of theirs!!
That Siberian Husky was trained to attack whenever it hears "Come As You Are"
xD
Lmak
One of the most thought provoking albums of it's time. I still think it reaches where no one has dared to go to this day. Forever buried now in college radio...
+docholiday13 i miss them dearly
your so right! this is one of the best bands of the 90's and one of my favorites. pity that sex and candy was the only song that ever got any radio play
They told truths that the government didn't want people to hear. Awareness is more powerful than shading it. This band might have saved lives in retrospect...
Care to elaborate? I'd like to hear more!
docholiday13 great days that's for sure
Saw them at Keene State in '97 with Toad. Awesome! They invited us on the tour bus...Who does that...Oh an underrated band like Marcy Playground. I was there as a die hard Toad fan...They delivered, but Marcy gained me for life. Good people...Toad is still my fav band...
yeah man, they've got the crunchy reverb thing going on. it's a cool sound.
Their eponymous debut album and Shapeshifter have sooo many great tracks. It's so wild that they got stonewalled by critics. They bounce around among so many soundscapes from the '90s and early '00s with such grace. Killer riffs, killer vocals, killer lyrics.
I used to listen to this CD every night as I feel asleep when I was like 7!
The first time when I heard this song in a local radio from Lima-Perú, I was still learning english, and I thought that the chorus said "in Maryland". I loved remember that misundertood cause I was learning a forieng launge practicing with music that I loved as a teeneger (:
Underrated as fuck
Could listen to this 100 times... wait, 101 right now. So awesome
Just discovered them. Love the clean vocals and riffs.
I so miss these type of music. Please take me back to the 90's 😫
This song would've had so much views if UA-cam was created then
I love this band! I only knew their hit "Sex and Candy" because it was played constantly in the 90s, but they have other great songs. I like the singer's voice. I find it soothing.
+Ripley2190 He has a voice that is easy to remember.
They were famous. They had the most played radio single in the country in 1997. By the time their follow up CD came out, trends had changed. That said, Shapeshifter is a solid album.
Not true: Shapeshifter was released in ‘99, the same year as Enema Of The State by Blink & There Is Nothing Left To Lose by Foo Fighters & Californication by RHCP. 1999 still had Guitar Rock in Full Bloom. Why didn’t Shapshifter make it? Probably because when you GRAB THE ATTENTION OF THE WORLD, like “Sex and Candy” had done, YOU NEED TO FOLLOW IT UP WITH A GROUP OF GREAT SONGS. Beck did that after “Loser” with his next album ODELAY, and Radiohead did it after “Creep” with their NEXT ALBUM “The Bends.” Both “Loser” and “Creep” could have been ONE-HIT WONDERS. In fact, I remember Rolling Stone wrote reviews of “The Bends” saying they were IN SHOCK that the band that made “Creep” could make an EXCELLENT ALBUM. Marcy’s Playground could have done it, but they would have had to PACK THE FOLLOW-UP with GREAT SONGS. They didn’t do it.
Love this album 😍
gotta love the freaking 90's. this song rocks.
I just saw these guys live a few hours ago. One of the best bands I have ever seen live!
I can't really explain it but this is easily the album I've listened to the most in my life.
Who hasn't met this kinda kid? "The boy who cried wolf" A classic tale.
This band is awesome. I don't know why that never made it big. = (
They sounding like a soundtrack for doing heroin in messed up house. And that's awesome. Pretty bad that they never achive some big success.
i mean they seem like they achieved at least some type of commercial success
@@aggressive4657 omg I thought the same
They kinda did.. What do you count as "big"? All my friends and people I knew rocked out to this and other singles from them. That pretty much counted as making it big when you were recognized nationally and booked on MTV shows and tours.
they did make it big
This song is still fire 🔥
I love the drums in the song! One of my favorite bands from the 90's.
Badass tune right here
Still love their music. Holding on to the wish of one new album.....
If you think about it this song as actually a tribute to Aunt Mary, who used to console her nephew and listen to the protagonist when he was bullied. It alludes to the fact she's passed away by now, or that she can't protect him from the big, wide world anymore. Rip Aunt Mary
This is the song that made me buy the album back in the day. Great album.
The 90's were great!!
always loved the ill guitar flange on this track, and more on this album.
My favorite Marcy Playground song and a song that's stayed with me through the years. Still get tingles up my arms listening to this and remembering listening to this and saying "fuck you" to all the bullies in my life.
I luv marcy mercy playground there so underrated as a band pure talent in my eyes
I wish this song would have gotten more airplay. It is just as good as Sex and Candy in my opinion.
Better
LONG LIVE THE 90s (music)!!!!!
The 90s will be back!
I've always loved this song.
Stopped listening to his a while ago. Decided to took my old CDs back. I really was missing this. Great band and Amazing song.
I agree especially when I saw them in concert and they where outstanding!
You gotta love this band 🔥
Their best song. Yeah, I said it.
Great song, great riff, great 90s video! Marcy Playground deserved way more cred than they received!
Tumbs up to men n women still enjoy this song!90s are awesome.
Just got a new 90s station where I’m from and this was on brought bac memories
Excellent video for an excellent song. I have had the album since '97, but just saw this. I am glad I did..
I my i opinion, this song is better than "Sex and Candy"
The less popular songs of bands are usually better. I don't know if it's because of how overplayed the most popular ones are or they're just worse. I honestly can't stand Smells Like Teen Spirit anymore because of how overplayed it is, but I love other songs by Nirvana that have probably never even been played on the radio before.
pretzelstick12 apples and oranges can't e compared, both rad I say, in their own right.
Smells like teen spirit is a great song, you just have a subconcious need to be a contrarian because all the normies shunned you in highschool

grdfyuugf
I always thought that too
I like this band so much ❤️
Love the guitar...
90's rock n roll was the shit
This song is in my head almost everyday.
This is my favorite song on the album!!
Love this band 👍🏻
Underrated band and song
i always loved their videos!
Vet coat with a dog collar is such a good look
Epic
Somehow, I managed to miss all of these videos in the 90's! I guess I assumed that they only made one for Sex & Candy as their "flagship" title for the album, and never did any others. I'm glad to have finally found the others. I've always loved the thought provoking (if brief) tone of this band's music, and am pleased to add the visuals to the music I've enjoyed for years.
i used to listen this in 2000....all misunderstood n shit....hahahah...still brings back the raddest saddest memories
Cannot wait to see them pretty soon
this song has been stuck in my head since i got the album 3 days ago! best 4 bucks spent in my life!
90s always and forever
One of my favorite 90s songs
they sure loved the come as you are riff
I think he just means music with a real creative vision, like anything marcy playground made, designed to take you to their headspace and feel the sound. People often aren't aware of that dynamic in alternative rock, and just go for whatever they hear on the radio with obvious cliche arrangements which require little more from the listener than to just nod their head and guess the song progression. stuff that record companies jam down some empty shells throat and turn them into an icon.
the riff in this song is almost identical to Nirvana's "Come as you are"...
Love MP. This vid is still fun.
Cool song
I just realised this tonight and glad i did! Awesome music.
COOL
Great tune
one of my fav album
90s, thank Christ we were around for it
this band defines the mid 90s....long live 90s alt
Great track...
I had forgotten about this one. Heard it for the first time in many years on college radio the other night.
The same college station that never would have played it back in the day because it was too mainstream. Funny how that works
I've got this on CD single. I miss being able to buy those.
this band and song is so badass and i cannot figure out why it doesnt have 50 mil views???
One of my favourites from MP
great song
Great lyrics
I saw them in Sydney 13 years ago, Brilliant, they should have made it.. Great Live Band
Damn... 9+13=me being fucking old.
Oh my god this song is brilliant
Is it wrong that I found this music video funny?
Maybe it's because they brought the "wolf" to the vet. Like they noticed he was having stomach problems before they noticed the kid was gone and/or are more concerned for the well-being of the beloved family pet than for the dumb kid who kept screaming "Wolf!" at them.
Either that or the implication that they just left him in there.
"Are you okay?"
"Yes, get m-"
(turns off the mic) "Okay, he says he's fine. And the dog seems to be doing okay too, so... Can I book a return appointment for Monday?"
Come, as you are!
Does anyone else hear the Come As You Are riff a little in this
This song is much better than “Sex and Candy.” I remember first hearing this on the radio in the car with my friend when I was 17, and literally right after I said “I hate Marcy playground and that Sex and Candy song,” this played.
Going to see them this weekend, I think. This is going to be good.
I love the guitar sound. I have to figure out how to get it and learn this song.
best song on the album
this album was my daily dose of teenage “rebellion act” back in 1998 every day before school, sophomore year in HS had nothing on me!! Fuck!! it feels good to be an adult!
It's a damn shame this doesn't have that much views
Great band cool song.
Underrated
Essa banda é muito boa cara 😃😃
Love Marcy >.
