I remeber this song when i was 13. Now I’m 29 and just got the news that I’m expecting a kid. All the nostalgia i feel with this kinda music along with the heavy reality that I’m bringing a human into this world is fucking wild. One end is pure bliss and innocence with being a kind and the other is frightening. Any advice? Such a random comment but goddamn. I’m lost right now.
“There’s gotta be more to life than this, there’s gotta be more to everything I thought exists” has stayed with me since I was 11. So glad to see this song has affected others the same as me and still is, 20 years later. Love to you all!!
I revisit this song everytime there is a school shooting. This time, in my own hometown. Abundant Life, Madison, WI May they rest peacefully. One day, I hope that we can all know love, and not hate. 😢 We are all capable of love and kindness. Don't be afraid to show it to anyone and everyone you meet. ❤

2021 and I'm approaching seventy-two years of existence, still listening at the edge... remembering the first time I heard this, thinking, how tragic. No sense of hope or true vision of a future for themselves or their peers. If You're reading this, you found a path through the crap and I congratulate you. Inspire the generations that are following you to know that life, in and of itself, is worth the pain and confusion of growing into adulthood. We were all there once, some more than others... it hurts less to know that you truly are not alone. Also, believe it or not...I'm a conservative. LOL...we aren't all poison.
I'm 50, and this song makes my weep for an entire generation failed by their parents, their government, their schools, and the business who use them as the product.
This song hits so much harder now that I’m 33. I was a teen when this came out. I’ve lost practically the majority of my friends in our 20’s to overdoses and suicides. 😢
I was the "youth of the nation" back in 2001, and I appreciated every minute of it. Same for this song. Dark, serious tones. At that time I didn't understand the hidden meaning in it. But now I'm 31, and I acknowledged that we were the generation that "just want to be hugged". Much love from Italy
I'm 25 and haven't heard this song since high school. My 5 year old son was talking to his sister and said "we are, we are". This song immediately popped in my head for some reason and reading all the comments brings so much power and respect to this song. It's crazy how it's being playing on the radio lately. The world really needs this song to reach the younger generations ears.
As special as I am, I actually do try to tip toe what's appropriate or not. Like is there a kids bop version bc imagine a whole bunch of youngens playing musical chair to this 😭. & My teen legitimately has school shooting drills. Like wth in the world. Anyways, no real words but just hoping for the best. I came from this generation & now I work with kids. To me, most of em r babies. If they're not even in kindergarten age, yes! They're still babies. The rest r just youngens. Some of these bigger boys r like Pitts to me. Like idk how to calm you down but ur killing my leg. You're a big boy now! Plz behave "little man " & like not pretend I'm s.clause. I know I have excessive use of like but oh well, id . & I'll cringe about this in no time. But awww at little kids anyways.. They must be protected. Somexs they do make me think of how I used to work w/ the elderly bc like I done lost me a whole entire person. Heart drop. Also, no I didn't. It's just kids r so mini form, actually stuck by my leg, following me everywhere, I don't even see em somexs, lol. even being short myself. I just over look em, easily, quick to think they ran off somewhere. Whole time they're right beside me. Stick to an adult. _these ppl r gonna come after me 😭... Oh nvrmnd_ . At least if I hafta get them out of a burning building they're way easier to save.

@@beanie1792 The real magic of the 00's was that alternative was pop music. It still exists today, it's just that it's not nearly as popular as it once was, so fewer bands get into it.
I agree and somehow disagree. Since kinda every decades has the similar blatant music and genre since May 1968 to nowadays . Only difference in todays music as whatsoever is the boring choice of words means to not hurt a certain ethnicity. The same rhythm etc... This music style was so a common back in the 90's . I call it pre-puber generation music that are in their 16-25 years . The style is similar as to Eminem, The Prodigy, LaCuna Coil, The Chemical Brothers,...mix that with some electro music and a fake live like children are singing with it to make it more credible. Kinda another band from that era was similar "Alien At Farm" used a song from Michael Jackson their title and clip showed a monkey etc...
Absolutely. I don’t see a bunch of 30 some year olds coming back to listen to Lil Uzi saying “Oh yeah, those were the days.” Also, look at the subject this touches on? It’s more relevant today than ever before.
Adulthood is a myth. Humans never really grow past beyond their teenage-selfs that much. Especially in the emotional spectrum. It just adepts here and their.
@Demon Slayer Well, share some of that reality you seem to live in. Yes true, like i said, on a evolutional level we cognitively adept, but most so called Adults behaving like idiotic self-centred Douchebags their whole lifes. My Neighbours (in their 30's) are a prime Example, this very nanosecond, as their shitty daily Routine. And don't start me on their psychotic Child they have raised and have to answer for. You really don't want to experience these assholes, ON A DAILY Base, believe me. Having loud and vocal sex, making constant abusive noises, and don't care the slightest on what self-perception they spreading. There are pure Assholes, but yet the image of modern garbage society anyway.
I was 19 and had my whole life ahead of me when this song came out. Seems like yesterday! This song has always hit deep but it hits deeper now...This song spoke to us back when we were the youth and it's still relevant today.
2023, and I've been a metal head since the 80's. Off the top of my head, I can't recall a set of instruments that are so haunting as this bass, guitar, and drums. The hair on my arms and the back of my neck stands right up with just the first few notes alone. Every time. Wow.
I grew up listening to this song in a small city in Tunisia called sousse, today I'm 32 years old dad and I'm still listening to it. Greetings to all of those who still listen to good music.
@@clicheguevara5282 but honestly growing up without internet and social media was very very different, imagine spending weeks on weeks outside every day with friends. Experiencing adventures and getting to know people, because that's just what you do, without having fomo or feeling left off, because some other friend went to this secret or exclusive party or flew to somewhere. It was different. Still idolizing it and viewing it through a lens of nostalgia, but still. Some things where slower, easier and better.

Listening after the shooting in Uvalde. So sad, I remember listening to this song, when I was younger, and now I’m raising the “youth of nation”. I pray my Son grows up strong and not swayed by the world.

But seeing you say you’re here today means everything, and I am glad you wonderful people are still here 💙
46 here and in many ways I wish i was 76. The world is going to go through some serious shit in the next few decades and sometimes I envy those who have already departed from all this shit. I feel bad for the youth who have to live the rest of their lives under the thumb of the elite. At least I had some freedoms during the prime years of my life. I want to weep for the youth because no matter what the indoctrination box tells you, you'll never get to experience the lives that those of us my age and older got to. Your post tells me you are a thoughtful, respectful and intelligent young person and I wish you all the best in life! Peace be with you!
I'm 52 and grew up in the 80s and nothing can beat that decade when it comes to music and lifestyle but I have to say that the early 2000s come pretty damn close. 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002 were magic.
I was also in high school from 1999 - 2002 and you are correct. Some of the best music ever made is in that Era. This new stuff is crap compared to it. Even my 16 year old daughter agrees that 2000s music was way better than now.
This song came on the radio the moment I got off the phone with my sons school about my child experiencing fear in school over a bully. 23 years later and this song hit yet again, it hit when I was in High School. Our youth have voices and they need to know we hear them!!!!!
2023 and still going hard. This song really hits different with all the shootings alone this year. Suicide spikes, and mental health that gets overlooked.
correct me if im wrong, rarely the word mental health been used widely during this era yet somehow, this song's already voicing out partially about mental health
Wow cant believe you just write 8 hours before :D i jusr remembered it somehow and ja we are now all in the 30s, and its the first time i can understand the text, cause when i was 12 my english wasnt that good. that song is just incredible and bring back so many memories to me... just wow
@galaxycrearions in my early 40s. Haven't heard this song in forever. Just found out they are opening for Jinjer, which I'm sitting in the parking lot in Greensboro NC about to go in and see.
every generation has said that for thousands of years. The older generations have always looked down on the younger ones as naive and ignorant and stupid. I think its older peoples way of protecting their psyches from their own inevitable decay, obscolecence and death. Kinda like...."stupid kids, we're way better lol" but in a jealous way, like "our shit was better, yours sucks, I feel sorry for you" to make us feel better lol
born in the 80's...grew up with this kind of songs...now i am 41 in the year 2024...still love to listen it...who ever else same like me ?? pls like my statement...tq
Clocking in at 40. I juuuust missed this one hitting the feels because I was 21 when it came out. Some slow early 90s grunge hits our feels more. But I get it
We know how hard it went. We can still live this through the music. Fortunately, we don't have to deal with the actual Fanbase of this genre. Which was made up entirely of absolute douchebags of unprecedented calibre.
I saw them live two years ago and they played this song with Amy Lee (evanescence) you could hear and feel the emotions from them singing Youth of the nation
The more I hear this song, the more school shootings keep happening. Something is trying to desensitize our nation to all these home based gun violence. Right now in the USA, our worst enemy is AMERICANS, ourselves! Every time we think we have finally reached an era of full scale people getting along wo ANY PROBLEMS, somethin always “randomly” happens that drives our country further and further apart!
Bryan H. Or if you have been the person that was contemplating it... I did for the longest time...I never had the guts but the scars that criss cross my wrist and thighs speak louder than anything ever will. The pain, the hate, the abandonment I dealt with when I was divorcing my ex.
Bryan H. People who commit suicide are the most selfish and it is self explanatory that they just thought about themselves while doing it. I wouldn't care anyway, not even if it were a very close one.
Clarksons Sometimes it's not that simple. People who do that aren't thinking correctly, I've been there. I used to say the same thing you said but when one of my best friends did it and didn't tell any of us what was going on with him that changed. He was hurting so much deep inside I just wish he would've told me.
Quite touching. I'm 34 and still shivering when the sad lyrics come up. I wish they'd done a video attached to lyrics, kinda similar to Pearl Jam 'Jeremy'. But this still has an impact if you listen.
Man I was 16 when this dropped. Peak high school. Goddamn man jamming to stuff like this while hanging out with my best friends smokin pot on the rooftops not knowing those were the times I'd actually miss.
My story is different. For me, those days were rife with bullying, awkwardness, depression, anxiety, and insecurities. Music like this kept me alive. I owe my life to it.
@ThugNastyFYSU I'm as atheist as they come, Thug, but belief in a deity can be a stabilizing force for some folks. As long as his brother doesn't harm others or try to take away anyone's rights in the name of his religion, he can believe whatever he feels like. I've witnessed the devastating effects drugs can have on both users and the people around them, and if belief in some divine entity helps them kick the habit, then I say let them.
If you got this on in 2024.. we got the same playlist as in the 90’s and I miss you bro. I hope we can catch up real soon. Love and miss you always at sunsets, Clarissa
The sad reality is, that every year, regardless of generation, we still are the youth of the nation. School shootings, misguided youth, depression leading to suicide, and much more. More than a song, this has become an anthem for the lost, and misunderstood youth.
i don't think it's "misunderstood" -- i think it's far worse: neglected and undermined. we've allowed ourselves to be persuaded that we're merely accidental survival engines in a purposeless world with no foundation for moral values, no strong connection to the divine, and nothing beyond the "right now" to incentivize our choices. the Boomers started it, the Xers endured it, the Millennials became its apotheosis, and the Zeds and Alphas are discovering just how horrid those ideas are, and are searching for answers in a world that no longer agrees that any such exist . . . . how can it be surprising that so many horrors occur in a society that believes its own cultural heritage is a scam?
Merry Christmas and happy New year to anyone reading this especially my people from the 90s! ! May all your goals and dreams prosper this upcoming year! You deserve it all 🤙
It really does. I have been to more than 15 funerals in the last two years. I took it hard for the first year and now I’m just numb and self medicated. Lost many friends, some of my best friends, my BEST friend for 19 years who was my dog, and family members. Your life can change in the blink of an eye. Let this be a message to everyone, don’t take anything for granted.
@@JeriDro It's one of my favorites. There's so much to take out of that first chapter... It's more than just nothing new under the sun! Everything repeats according to its circuits. Everything is in motion as nothing is still. All is vanity. History repeats itself. The more one gains in the pursuit of wisdom and knowledge, it's a vexation of spirit where grief and sorrow will follow. I'm not that young and I'm not that old. I'm 41 yet I feel like I'm an old soul... should of been born at least 20-30 years earlier, the music in the mid to late 50s, all through the 60s and into the mid 70s was, well still is the best era of music, especially the 60s. Yet at the same time, I tend to be a kid at heart. I can completely relate with Solomon's words! I'm always trying to learn something new that I haven't learned yet, or even relearn something just to refresh my memory... The older you get and the more you take in, it can take a toll on your mind, your responses become slower, you can tend to forget simple things easier. There are many out there such as my father, he struggles with Alzheimer's. He knows who he is and who we are and all, but his short term memory is just about shot. He can tell you stuff from the late 40s and early 50s... but he can't remember what he said or did 20 minutes ago, or where he put his keys... Yeah it's tough! And to think there are some who don't even recognize or know themselves nor their loved ones...
I miss the times more than most know. If I inherited $500M...I'd give $100M to relive every day of the summer of 1999. If I had to negotiate, I'd give half. That's how important those times were to me. So much I miss from those times, including best friends who aren't with us anymore. This song makes me want to tear up, just knowing how much fun the late 90s and early 2000s were to me. If you're a teen today, enjoy every fucking second! I did and I regret nothing. And because of that, goddamn do I wanna go back again! Crappy home life...best friends I could ever hope for.
Me too, I feel you, I miss it so much. The music was real, raw, and the lyrics very prophetic. When singers were real singers and real legit talent. Before autotunes and repetitive nonsense. I wish we can go back just once and reminisce once again of the good ole days. I feel you.
This "simpler time" was before our intelegance agencies finally consolidated their control of the system. It started with JFK and ended with 9/11. They Userped the order of the world in an attempt to bring "order" and crown themselves kings, yet their greed has led them to do terrible thing in the name of 'peace', and in a land built upon the exact opposite of the concept of "kings" to attepmt just that was bound to lead to chaos. Had a good run... too bad it was taken down by rouge factions of the govenment, the nebulous "deep state"; too bad no one who could do anything about it tryed to.
I was once almost Johnny Boy in high school. 3 years of relentless bullying almost pushed me over the edge. My heart goes out to everyone who feel like suicide. You are not alone! ❤
It reminds me a little of Johnny Boy from Twenty one pilots. Their lyrics are powerful. To everyone who is suicidal, please listen to Friend please and Truce by Twenty one pilots. Maybe it's not too much but it can help you even just a little. "Get up Johnny boy" Keep fighting!
Same. Music was one of the few things that brought me joy when I lost interest in everything else I loved. Sometimes the little bit of joy music brings you is what you need to keep going.

Haven't heard this song in years and it still gives me goosebumps.

"Teach the next generation"
Good joke there, fellow sir.
Facts man 💯
As special as I am, I actually do try to tip toe what's appropriate or not.

Late 90's, early 00's. Some of the best music to represent a childhood, everlasting memory and constant feeling of nostalgia.
Defo!!
Miss those days
Best song ever

i don't think it's "misunderstood" -- i think it's far worse: neglected and undermined.
we've allowed ourselves to be persuaded that we're merely accidental survival engines in a purposeless world with no foundation for moral values, no strong connection to the divine, and nothing beyond the "right now" to incentivize our choices. the Boomers started it, the Xers endured it, the Millennials became its apotheosis, and the Zeds and Alphas are discovering just how horrid those ideas are, and are searching for answers in a world that no longer agrees that any such exist . . . .
how can it be surprising that so many horrors occur in a society that believes its own cultural heritage is a scam?

The older you get and the more you take in, it can take a toll on your mind, your responses become slower, you can tend to forget simple things easier.
There are many out there such as my father, he struggles with Alzheimer's. He knows who he is and who we are and all, but his short term memory is just about shot. He can tell you stuff from the late 40s and early 50s... but he can't remember what he said or did 20 minutes ago, or where he put his keys... Yeah it's tough! And to think there are some who don't even recognize or know themselves nor their loved ones...
God I miss the 90's - 00s... when life and music made sense.
It's a shame it's all gone now , no way to listen to it ever again
Me too, I feel you, I miss it so much. The music was real, raw, and the lyrics very prophetic. When singers were real singers and real legit talent. Before autotunes and repetitive nonsense. I wish we can go back just once and reminisce once again of the good ole days. I feel you.
Slipknot still makes sense
This "simpler time" was before our intelegance agencies finally consolidated their control of the system. It started with JFK and ended with 9/11. They Userped the order of the world in an attempt to bring "order" and crown themselves kings, yet their greed has led them to do terrible thing in the name of 'peace', and in a land built upon the exact opposite of the concept of "kings" to attepmt just that was bound to lead to chaos. Had a good run... too bad it was taken down by rouge factions of the govenment, the nebulous "deep state"; too bad no one who could do anything about it tryed to.
Damn, I'm feeling so freaking old, 2001 I was just 17...still loving the song...
I was once almost Johnny Boy in high school. 3 years of relentless bullying almost pushed me over the edge. My heart goes out to everyone who feel like suicide. You are not alone! ❤
Same here. Just like Linkin Park, P.O.D. saved a generation of youth.
Not all life has value...just ask me LOL.
Same. Music was one of the few things that brought me joy when I lost interest in everything else I loved. Sometimes the little bit of joy music brings you is what you need to keep going.
I want to but I don’t have a gun yet, a person I thought was my friend told me to commit suicide as a joke, and it’s not much of a joke to me
This song always gives me a strong feeling of nostalgia...
Absolutely agree dude
Luther foote needs check his spirit
I get chills each and every time I hear this song.
+Susan Murtha , yeah me too . . .
Susan Murtha word.
We are we are…now the middle aged of the nation.
Damn, time flies.
