I've seen a similar scene set down before me; what I saw (and worse: what I heard) was the sight of an empty seat where once someone so young I had just met sat, and laughed...and lived, and I sung an empty anthem at them, silently, since I couldn't say anything out loud without crying (can't write now without letting out even a little more), as I lay this down before you, unknown, no one and nothing says you'll even see silent tears I learned to cry from the violent years of my youth when it was I that got hit, and slapped around and out of the room if I woke up a still-drunken adult too soon, while someone was hung over after a night of hanging out, and partying down with various partners, something partly didn't seem right, yet to me it was a regular sight and if I made a sound unsettling their rest I was blessed with a hurl of slaps, smacked around the room, the very speech of Hate and Selfishness blasted into my face from some who Fate placed there to teach me about some myth everyone else called Love, so I learned to stay silent until I left for school; later days, in those crowded rooms I learned to stay quiet about everything that was happening to me, since I was constantly being moved around it was easy to not make a sound and quickly go from being unnoticed, or once known, seen as unlikely to succeed, unknown to them was the nightly insanity I saw, but mostly heard, as an only child of divorced parents, I learned to love the silent library, and love being alone since that guaranteed silence, at least a lot less violence hurled at me by others who would later profess they loved me and that it was my nine-year-old self that was lying in Court about their violence and poisoned resource. Now I've gone on and grown up, I've gained the awful knowledge I've learned a lesson only Life shows when it's they taken away too soon and not there that are teaching the awful life lessons of pain that I had autocorrected to be seen as Hate and heard as insanity, since I couldn't imagine a sane God made the scene real, to be asked to join strangers in a new to me older tradition of spirituality, so I left town to go farther East than ever before, to meet new people my Mom was adopted by, this new family of hers was now (back then, about '96) supposed to be mine, too, and it certainly felt like it when I was trusted just to keep an eye on their smallest, a nine year old girl, and, being in public, there wasn't ever a threat to defend her from, but I finally had a potential use for the violent aspect and I had to let it go, instead, so we went swimming in a fine hotel's cold swimming pool, and she then ran from there to the jacuzzi; and back again, repeatedly, but it somehow was enough to set her off into septic shock, and I didn't know what to do except get her out of the pool and to her parents, but by the time I found them she was gone.

Eventually we started connecting. 11 years later we are still married and happier than ever. I owe almost everything great in my life to this song.

I remember listening to this song with my dad in the early 2000s. He passed away sadly due to an accidental overdose while I was in a treatment center for opiates. I remember leaving the service and sitting down with some roommates of mine breaking down crying. Out of nowhere my house manager comes into the room, picks up the guitar, and starts playing this song. This is the only song I would ever tie to my father especially on an acoustic guitar. It took me back instantly to riding in my fathers truck and him showing me all of his favorite songs. I never believed in any sort of afterlife or anything spiritual until after that moment. I knew that was my fathers way of saying everything will be alright and I will never forget it. I love and miss you so much papa and I hope you're looking down at me proud....

THE MOST HONEST LINE IN THIS SONG, talking about all the high scale experience he's had... " You know where it ends usually depends on where you start." Just the raw insight that he knows where he came from, how fortunate he is and his eyes are still open to everything around him regardless.

That's very interesting to me, because I always thought he was referencing that statement to his relationship experience... You know...-like if you start a relationship with a gorgeous cheater, after "helping" them cheat on their lover... In the future they are definitely going to cheat on you. Or you on them. Or both. Or the relationship will just end because you can never fully trust each other. But now that I've lived a little longer, I've met couples who started, "dirty"
... And are still together to this day. So, who really knows. But it's beautiful how these lyrics stir the souls of everyone here enough to type about it. 🙂

I'm, just not willing to walk away from money that I had owed for 19 yrs..child support, stocks, bonds, shares in companies + more...im broke my health is shitty and for the first time in my life I wanted a decent life to live and relax..How is that so damn wrong?

I remember being stopping in my tracks the first time I heard this song when it aired in CA. I cried tears from the heart of compassion I didn't know was inside of me, not yet having suffered these pains myself. I still cry like a crocodile every time I listen to this one. I am Ever grateful to the spirit that inspired Everlast to write this song. I think all of us know what it's like to have blues now. Oh how sweet it feels receive a little tenderness when were down and out. There are those who suffer earlier than others, much earlier, even the white shirts and skirts suffer. I found that suffering gives birth to compassion. Love is Everlasting, its touch never dies. We are living lights that love shines through. Keep on "remembering what's like...." Feeling one another is the natural medicine that heals the world. Right action follows when feel instead of judgments, though often afterward we have hurt another. The touch from pain waters the dormant love within us. Sorry to be so long winded. Best to y'all.

@@Greywitch33 It’s really a fact and I’m starting to realize it after 5-6 other times of running to my own visions and not the ones that God wants me in. I am in the ministry day in and day out serving his people and probably more to be honest. I’m just at this point.
I have been tempted by Satan to leave and rest on my own understanding and not his.
I have several good offers but God is giving me serious signs that this is where he wants me, PERIOD!
Im trying to listen this time as I always end up back in the same position anyway.
Im smart, but I’m hard headed. I’m going right down the road he wants this time.
He has something so great for me I can just feel it so strong. I’m tired of running. This is the last stand. No more being scared in my subconscious and wondering why I do the things I do!
I’m gonna face it head on! In every travesty there is a silver lining and when you pray to God for something, you will get it, but it’s never the way you want it.
I’ve been some major hurt in-order to inflict change. We have to have balance, and when we are way whacked out of our minds or just far off, God is going to answer the parader by going that far the other way and allowing you to balance.
He ALWAYS has a plan for every one of us if we seek him and it may he tough at first, be he’s gonna bring you to who you were born to be!!!

If there's one thing this song has taught me, it's to never judge people by their cover, and it also taught me that I have it better than I realize. I get mad at the world, but at the end of the day, I'm blessed. And growing up, I was cocky about it, but nowadays, I'm way more humble than I used to be. And I'm so glad that I grew out of that way of thinking.

@@geodude6244 we don't condemn those people, instead we hope and pray for those people to learn to correct their ways through Christ, and encourage the few who are already in Christ to keep moving forward. It is better to see that there is a possibility for the few others to change than to limit them to their past or current mistakes, to not forgive them, to declare with your own lips that they are forever stuck in this world like the rest of the world.
It is easier to cancel people out. And very difficult, I understand, to be patient with others. Being patient for others is selfless because it's not on my time or even their time... It's in God's hands and God's time that they become transformed. No form of human intervention can save them.
I don't like being disappointed by others over and over again... Then again, why are we relying on man's ways?

You should never forget that you were homeless once and never disrespect anyone that is homeless no matter what they are doing to get their needs met.
The homeless population is roughly 90 + percent males and they are the ones that for the most part refused to be pussy whipped and bowed down

This is is a beautiful testimony. 🥺🥰 Truly. It's amazing the impact words, spoken or sung is song, can be to a person. This song means so much to me. It's saved me, and now I live a comfortable life. More so than the average person. I'm 33 and don't have to work. But I don't let this change me. This song is a reminder that we are all people, and all people are worthy of love. It's my reminder to always be the kind, giving, and helpful person I have always been. It's my reminder that I'm no different than the homeless mother with her children barely surviving in their car that barely works. That I'm no different than the millionaire down the road from me. I vowed to always help people when I can, and I do to this day, thanks to the things that remind me to stay true to myself, like this song. ❤️ I love how much you adore your sweet Samantha. You can see it just by hoe you type about her.

The message here: don’t judge or harm people who are down. They have enough struggles as it is. If you can’t help them, pray for them, if you can’t pray for them leave them alone.

T Laut, I agree. Prayer is useless and empty. It never stopped any war, it never miraculously cured any disease or fed any starving children ect. It’s just a way for people to FEEL like they’re doing something without having to actually do anything.

Never look down on anybody because yu never know when yu could be in same situation. I think we all need to help each other- praying?? Ya my praying isn’t going to help somebody who hasn’t eaten in days, or no place to go- maybe it makes me feel better because I think “I’m doing something to help”??

Folks, I think many didn’t quite understand my comment. I stated if you can’t (the key word here is can’t ) leave them alone. I wasn’t encouraging anyone or imposing my view or opinion upon anyone. Prayer is something I do. I don’t judge your methods or principles so chilly chill chill! Lol. Be well everyone!
