My 3 year old son had been diagnosed with an aggressive brain stem tumor, medulloblastoma, in 1993. He and his two-year old sister LOVED this song, jumping on the bed and yelling out the chorus "Wooohhh" as I played it over and over in late 1993 and early 1994. He passed in February, 1994 but I'll never forget this song as it made him imminently happy in his last days!!
Bless you.

Sorry about your son.❤

As a teenager back then I remember coming home from goofing off and finding my Dad at his stereo with my Collective Soul tape in it looking for this song. He looked at me with a BIG smile and said, "Find that, YEAH, song you listen too for me ". It is a memory I will remember forever!! Thanks Collective Soul for that!! I MISS and LOVE YOU DAD!!! Every Day!!!
You will meet again, friend. Someday, in Heaven.
I'm actually listening to this in memory of my dad as well. He passed on 5/9/24. I remember at 5-7 year old (1992-1995) cruising in his Nova listening to this, ACDC, Wilson Phillips and Paula Abdul.
Sorry to hear about your losses everybody. Keep your heads up and take care of yourselves !

My sweet husband Benny played this song for me when we first met and every time we were in his vehicle. It was a favorite of ours, held a lot of meaning for us. He passed 4 months ago. We were together 27 yrs, married almost 24. I still listen to it. Love you Benny Bear.

After all these years, I just realized that Collective Soul might have been one of the most underrated bands of the 90s.
totally agree
Affirmative.
....Yeah... :P
Them and Blind melon.
Yep
They played a concert in Savannah, GA in the early 2000's. It was outdoors down by the river. A storm rolled in shortly after they took the stage and it started raining and lightning pretty bad. And this storm was no joke. Half the crowd left for cover because it was intense. Huge rain drops just pouring down. Lightning not too far away lighting up the sky. They all kind of gathered at the back of the stage for a minute, then came running back out. The singer said something about how they were making them call off the concert due to the weather, but they weren't going to leave until they played the song we all came to hear. Then they rocked this song out while getting soaked. Nobody would have blamed them for leaving when they were told to, but they hung in there for us and I'll always remember that.
Sounds like it was a once in a lifetime experience, I wish I was there.
That's awesome dedication really. Great memory and experience.
in a van down by the river
Aww, they love their fans.
Imagine this: “Heaven let your light shine down” *huge lighting strike
You really don't know how good things are sometimes until their gone, the 80's and 90's were really cool.
Your comment is perfectly suited to this amazing song, thank you.🕊️💯🍁
I was a child thru 80's and teen in the 90's and listened to EVERYTHING due to an older brother into music and the 80's seemed so slow kinda going and 90's just a little faster but not in a rush...just the right speed and tempo for MANY GREAT SONGS !

I’m glad that they’re preserving this epic band’s legacy. Today they don’t make music like they used to. The music of the past decades 90s, 2000s, have more profound songs. Music was artwork. The songs of past decades had lyrics that touched the deepest corners of your soul. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Collective Soul, Nine Inch Nails, Linkin Park, Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilot. Music of the 90s and early 2000s need preserving. They are work of art.

@@SunBunz Sounds like he was a truly special man. It actually reminds me of the story of my maternal grandmother, a severe alcoholic who constantly neglected my mother and her two siblings. It's a very long story, and I don't know all the details, but I do know that her Christmas/birthday present (my aunt was actually born on Christmas day, believe it or not!) to them on, what I believe was my mom's 17th year of life, was to go to rehab.
She hasn't have a drop of alcohol since that day and is now slowly approaching her last days from congestive heart failure. She probably has no more than a few years left, sadly. Still, she's had a long and fulfilling life of about 75 years, so I can't complain. I'm going to miss her so much.

I named my youngest daughter after this song; Heaven. Every time i hear it i send it to her and think about her and how beautiful she turned out to be. "HEAVEN LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE DOWN."
I went to this concert a few years ago. It was a spiritual moment for me! Love is in the air. Teach me! God teach us to love again. Be there! Who's. Heaven let your light shine down! I got the message. I'm always waiting for signs from heaven! Got it loud amd clear!
It was 1994, I had just come home from school and after throwing my backpack anywhere I turned on the TV which of course was tuned to MTV and the first thing that appeared was the video of Shine. The riff captured me immediately, I remember at that time I wasn't the best student, I wasn't a great athlete, I didn't have much money, I didn't have a girlfriend, but the instant the riff started I felt blissful. For the first time I experienced hearing a new song that would become a classic. As the song mesmerized me I knew I was discovering a great band. I had not been able to experience that sense of revelation with the songs of Nirvana, Alice in Chains and other great bands. Now I have a job, a wife, children, in short, a full life, and that moment when I met Collective Soul is still with me. I relive it every time I listen to "shine" and I go back to being that teenager who experienced the joy of discovering a timeless song.

I've always thought that every song has a message . I've listened to this song for many years and I just got the message this morning . My family has dealt with some serious loss in the past two years ( my mother , father in law and our daughter ) . Everything just seemed to pile up on us . I've read through some of the comment and it seems that this tune brings out some real emotion in people who have suffered from a loss . Not being a " spiritual " man necessarily I can't help but hope that wherever my loved ones are now that " Love will be there " !
I used to play this on full blast as I drove my daughter to preschool back in 1994. Now when I play it for her, (she’s 30) she goes “Yeah, I kind of remember this song”. It was also a great song to listen to when you’re walking all over the neighborhood. This was the beginning of my listening to grunge/alt rock. Back when I was in my early 30s. I don’t know what happened to them.

I hope your grandkids will also listen to it.
Shine by Collective Soul is both a healing and well made 90s classic alternative rock song to listen to. This imaginative and soul nourishing song metaphorically made a mark on my memory again today when I unexpectedly heard this classic within a 90 minute span on two local radio stations.
Some day this song will become a big time classic. It could have easily compete against the great ones of early days.
Fredtheguitarguy I'm aware of this too, but why would that interfere with listening to a great song?
Fredtheguitarguy Ah, I see. Yeah, I guess it's hard not to think about Cho when listening to it. Still a good song though, I guess cause it's somewhat of an upbeat/relaxing song at times that it helped cheer Cho up? Maybe that's why he listened to it a lot, I mean? Not sure, that's just one theory though.

My band played with Collective Soul back in 2012. It was just us and them on the bill, and they were absolutely cool to us, inviting us into the Green Room, and they watched us play during our set. The place was not huge, about 2500 people, but it was probably one of the best nights ever. It's nice when a headliner doesn't act like a headliner.
Those are the days
And, unike so many who have posted on this song, nobody seems to have died from seeing that show!
(But absolutely great to hear they're nice guys. I'm just riffing on the dozens and dozens of posts here about 'favorite song relative' dying!!)
Thank you Father in Heaven ❤
Amen.
This is the Way, oh Lord Jesus Shine!!
Gracias Dios por enviar artistas a salvarnos un rato
There is no god.
@@freewill8218 what ever
Thank you Collective Soul for sharing your wonderful music with us.
Yes I agree awesome song and group
I remember this being played often on the radio when I was on the way to school. The sun flickering through the bare trees. Right before I transferred to catholic school and heard the word of God. 🌅 thanks for coming to my lutheran monergist ted talk lol
I heard this on our hard-rock radio station today. Forgot how good it was! I had to play it again on UA-cam immediately. The 1990's was full of great alternative rock!
This is definitely a classic song that will be listened to for generations. To put it simply, it's an legendary song.
Yahhh....
yep legendary
❤❤ Jesus is God. Bless 🙌 our world 🌎 🙏 ❤️ amen 🙏 🙌 👏 ❤️ love ❤️ 🏆 🏆 👎 wars 💖 amen.
I really enjoy music by Collective Soul, I'm soon to be 74 and listen 🎶 whenever I can. Great music all around.
Helped me through my Mother's passing.
I used to wake up to a radio alarm growing up, and I'll never forget the day I woke up to this song. It started in my dreams and turned them lucid before I woke and it finished a couple minutes later. That was the most alert and present I think I've ever been getting out of bed in the morning, in my entire life. Smile on my face as I opened my eyes. And I had a damn good day and a positive attitude. Every time I hear this song I vividly remember that morning, waking up feeling truly ALIVE.
Me and my best friend Brandy. 10th grade and not a care in the world. Now, I'm 39 and she passed in 2001. Always gonna be a bond with this song and now she lets her light shine down. #fuckcancer
+eric hall Sorry to hear about your friend. This song is very powerful and nostalgic for A LOT of people. Underrated band.
+eric hall may brandy rest in peace
Hugs, Eric
Sorry to hear of your friend... great song ....
🙏💙
Im 41 years old and this song still sounds COOL like the first time!!! Hellyeahhhh!!!
I remember riding in my father's truck as a kid to the store and he put this song on. He said, "Son, it's days like this it's good to be a man."
my dad would put this song while on the highway country roads
Very nice.
I was that dad..Jethro Tull,Pink Floyd,Rush ,The Beatles..I am taking them all to see Collective Soul..July 31..
@@todcornellier1689 WOW! That's awesome!
it’s tru almost everyday
I love this song. Can we bring this era back already? 2024 is trash.
Yes a awesome group and song
thats what makes it special we aint getting it back
2024..is made to come back, to greater times
I’m right there with you man. 2024 is absolute dog shit.
I agree
Nostalgic reverie overload.....basically the feelings of soothingly reflective bliss that this soulful tune evokes is beyond mere words, it can only be felt, experienced...The perfect song!
I spent an hour of my life trying to google this song...I couldnt remember a single word so I was typing in the guitar riff with woaaah...
When I found it, my life was complete
Lucky bastard! Took me 2 years to find one of their other songs.
I jus went through this exact same thing
LOL
:D too funny! I've been there/
jajajaja sé lo que dices( know what you mean)
I'm 34 years old
Loved this band and this song.
I've got my kids listening to them as well!
thats cool
I'm 33.. love this band
This is one of the most beautiful songs. My brother fell in love with it in 94 and he passed away in 1995.. I played the song at his funeral and it means so much to me. It’s just beautiful. You have a lot of Italians in my neighborhood and at their funerals they always play Frank Sinatra. I did it my way.
Well, my brother was way ahead of his time I played. I did it my way by the sex pistols in the church. he was kind of a rebel so it’s very fitting. Damn, I miss you, kid. See you when I get there.❤
❤ I just posted a short with this song. 🎶
Unbelievable. Grew up with song. It's a masterpiece. Never saw the video. The melody changes and arrangements are spectacular. Not to mention vocals, harmony. The bass, guitar, keys, drums.
What can you say. Great chill song.
I have 45 years old..and i have to admit the 90's was the real best of my life.
Agreed
+gustavo pereira yup, I loved Mtv so much back then, the animation shows were awesome
Me to brother. That I only think that I like in 2019 is bourbon cheers.
Same here brother. I miss those days.
This song represents a time when music was simple but great
Nah, the alternative revolution brought alot of junk that degenerated into angry uncontrolled fires. This song brought light to an era that was getting increasingly dark.
it's still extremely simple today. You just need an auto-tune
Yes I agree remember in the 90s, great song
Well said!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Im a 49 yr old blk chick and I still love this shit!!! The beat IS DOPE AF
Just hearing this song(every time) makes me feel the light shine down& reading all your comments makes it radiate ✨
This song was there when I first fell in love, and it eventually helped me cope with the ultimate heartbreak! Heaven let your light shine down! ❤️
there is a lot more heartbreak in store, just keep on trucking......
@@ronnietoots6797 Sure mate 🤘
I'm 19 and prefer this style of music over basically anything that is very popular today with people my age.
im 20, you make me proud! : )
good keep it that way, we lost our rock station down in louisana, i have to find other outlets now =(
wow, and i thought i didn't have any unanswered for kids out there.
lmao does that make you better than the rest of your generation or something??
uuuummm what ? i have no idea what you mean, was only backing said statement with support in a positive, joking way, you guys are taking this waaayyy to seriously!
Ill never get sick of this song. Spirtual in so many ways and not just spiritual in a Religon way.
Growing up in the 90s, I never realized how great it was. Now I REALLY miss it!!
+Kelley Pike I second that. Where did the years go...
+Kelley Pike i was grown in the 90's but as far as music goes..the 90's completely rule!
+Kelley Pike i thought on it and the decade of the music was concept '88 to '98 it fades quickly from there imho
yea I would love to go back to the 90's
+Kelley Pike yea that shit was fun as hell. great music too.
My uncle passed about a month ago and when this song came out, he loved it! I would play it for him when I'd see him throughout the years and it was a flashback for the both of us. Anytime I hear this song I remember the times we'd be singing it on car trips
That is a nice memory to have TajinPapi!
Hang in there bro!!
This band should be in the rock and roll hall of fame.
Well they are in the Georgia music hall of fame fwiw
I agree.
Yes
So many memories of my mom and dad listening to this growing up. We love this band and are disappointed the concert got cancelled in co springs but we are all still listening and loving. Thank you
I just discovered this song and I'm in love. It just makes me go back to when I was a kid and feels amazing. Warm, safe, free. So damn good.
You've missed out my friend but you're here now and that's what matters.
🙌😎
No matter where I've lived this song is always in the top 50 rock songs on the rock radio station
watching beast wars after school then playing with super soakers til dark then coming home and reading a goosebumps before bed hehe
Rest in peace to all the ones we've lost and may heaven let your light shine down to remind us you're still there.

Amen! What a nice comment!

The 90’s was a decade for me to learn and mature, being born in the 70’s. The 80’s was innocence and the 90’s was maturing. Both decades had the best music as I was growing up.
I hear ya dude, I was born in '76
I was born in 70. I'm so glad that gen xers had such great music, stories, soul.
Draka Winkle what’s your thoughts on gen z’s music
@@eldin8910 honestly I don't think much about it. There are some good songs. However I don't see it having much staying power. One sentence being repeated over and over doesn't make a song. Nor does autotune. I can't see people 20 years from now gushing about the story in this or that song.
It makes me think that it's like a chocolate Easter Bunny. Looks good, smells good but hollow. No substance.
@@drakawinkle584 I feel the same. Especially this new age rap. 90's hip hop told a story that made sense and had flow that carried emotion. Now its just about sex, lust, drugs, death, money. Basically anything with authenticity doesn't seem to exists anymore except for these new underground bands.
This song chose me when I was around 8 yrs old and someone was playing their radio. All these years I've grew up wondering what was that sound I once heard when I was a kid? Had no idea the name of it, didn't even remember how the song went..but I knew I felt it when it played. Here it is 30 yrs later and I found it!!!!!! And my lord what a time in my life to find it 🙏🏾 maybe I can sleep easy tonight now

Show me where to look,
Tell me what will I find?

What will I find?
Lay me on the ground,
Or fly me in the sky.

Tell me what will I find?

Teach me how to speak,
Teach me how to share.
Teach me where to go,
Tell me will love be there?
Will love be there?

Datgum good song, just seen a cover band, after that I had to go find collective soul. It's been a long time, song still has that feeling.
@@icuabc1235 every generation has their music, but damn if the early 90s didn't bring it.
Little disappointed you didn't put the "ya" in the lyrics. Messed me all up ! Lol
when music was about music. when rock was rock. This song will never die.
90s alternative my favorite music I was about 13 when this song came out great band I always would will love 90s alternative
Z Dax For sure!!
@@vicdipietro9758 IMO opinion Our 90s Alt is gonna stand the test of time like classic 60 n 70s and golden oldies. The 80s was the worst. Though as a young kid just getting into music GnR was my 1st Fav band. Still like iem now n then.
True that
music is still about music bro. opinions like this suck
There wasn’t a kid at my school growing up that wasn’t humming this tune during passing periods or lunch. I remember doing a duet with my friend during a Christmas, a bit vigilant of us but still nostalgic.
This is why music is important. No matter how many years have transpired, this song holds meaning to those who understand the lyrics and enjoy the song. 🥰❤
