I would like to thank you Devvon. Every single one of your videos is the formula. I have several questions I will ask a few. What interface do you use? What resolution are you recording at? . Other than the Neve what else do you use on your mix buss? I am currently using an Antelope orion synergy core and I am very dissatisfied with it. Primarily what I am missing with it is top in. I used to use ARME 800 and I loved it when I can pair mixes from the RME to the Antelope the Antelope sounds muffled same song same mix. Do you do consultations? Last question for now I am looking at the lynx Aurora.16 Ch AD/DA Or Apollo 16Ch hexa core. I use a 16 channel passive Summing mixer powered by Neve 1272 with an API 2500 hardware on the mix bus. The Antelope orion synergy core converters are not crisp it’s like 30% of the mix is covered with blankets. If you do consultations send me an email with a cell number I will gladly pay you for your time and knowledge. Again I greatly appreciate as an older producer you taking the art form to another. level great music and great engineering skills etc. Appreciate you Khayree Khayree1@protonmail.com
Bruh, my stuff sounds 10 times better now with your tips than when I was recording before I heard of you!! I literally went and re-EQ'd and compressed some vocals on some old recordings I had did using tips I got from you and they just sound worlds better. thank you so much!!
I didn't even think I needed to watch this. Now I feel like I just had a revelation and I'm about to go re mix all my projects. Critical breakthrough every time. Thankful for you, bro.
When i started mixing i used to cut too heavily at the low end of the vocals - i've found a mixture of low-mids cutting & the "mud" region of 200-400hz to be a better solution. as well as some multiband compression, subtle stereo imaging and a touch of waves doubler all help give vocals that full sound. nice video!
i understand everything so precisely Devon this shit so under-rated, we need a mixer who does not just do other people's vocals, but YOUR OWN Vocals! we're not tryna make beats or produce, we tryna learn how to mix our own VOCALS!!!!! it's kinda rare for a engineer to teach you how to do vocal mixing....because they're all focused on making beats
no dooode there's different type of Engineers in Music Production itself....let alone REAL Mechanical, Software, Electrical Engineers in real life... the main purpose of an "Engineer" is to mix vocals....hella false my ninja does a master engineer or acoustic engineer "main purpose"...is to mix "VOCALS"???? no i dont think so! FIRST OF ALL YOU SHOULD BE THE FIRST ONE to know how and stylistically mix your own vocals... so you can at least have the English to talk to an engineer when you pay for their services you know what you want SECOND if you want to keep the style of the beat PURE then send stem vocals to the Producer that MADE THAT BEAT ITSELF! then let HIM Mix YOUR VOCALS....to HIS OWN STYLE OF his beat instead of a third-party unless you know them and did your homework and have a significant amount of experience using mixing services of all sorts including your own
It’d be dope if you could do a tutorial video recording a full song start to finish using one of your templates. I’m pretty new to the whole recording thing but so far your videos have been helpful, purchased a couple templates of yours to help start my recordings. Keep up the good work tho bro, appreciate what you’re doing!
This is great. I have no damn idea why I never thought about this... My vocals sometimes have that thin / tinny sound, depending on the song. I'm certain this is the issue.
Honestly man , I’ve wasted hours watching other guys tutorials snd videos and I wish I found you a year ago , you have nothing but great tutorials and content !!!! Keep it up man thank you !!!!!!!
Man , you a blessing Fam, the actuality of you sharing the knowledge you learned yourself to us, is a blessing bro, I’ve learned so much from you over the past year, it’s crazyyy!!!💯🔥much love BroGod !!!
My rule of thumb is to keep it natural as possible, today's mixing styles sound more "thinny" due to the preferred brightness and modern microphones, once you start tweaking excessively and cutting or boosting too much you, kill dynamics and ultimately killing the integrity of the human voice , me personally I just rid of unnecessary sub lows and then tame the lows ,(usually with a eq cut at 3 or 500hz and multiband compression to control the low end ) boost at the top and then compress and automate ,the d-ess just a tad .that way the vocal is consistent and balanced across the board
I learned a new thing today that was brilliant, it thickened the vocal up at the click of 1 button. Pressing the phase invert on the EQ made the vocal thicker, only slightly but enough to notice the difference.
Great tip! Recently just switched from reason 11 to studio one 5, the eq’s are much more accurate and with free game it makes even more sense!! Keep up the good work my brotha!!! ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿
makes me wanna go back and remix a whole project now that i know what the problem with the vox was lol. thanks devvon, another gem for future reference
Absolutely love this video, step by step I could follow everything you explained. The best videos I've watched Thumbs up. P.S. and thank you for the knowledge.

Does every frequency spectrum mid high low has to be same volume to have a fuller mix?
