Mixing is great but what about ARRANGEMENTS??? you can mix all you want but if ARRANGEMENTS/SONGWRITING/SOUND SELECTION SUCKS, Mixing will not save your song.

Someone is scamming on telegram with a fake account saying "you've won a contest". Just a heads up. They're claiming they are giving away a free Mac and Mac monitor.
I've understood compression / the various types / the various approaches to different sources for a while now... I still watched this and I've gotta say - this systematic approach is really great. It's like you gave the process some order. Gonna use this approach for sure.
Thank you for these tips! Just something that will help us listen better when you do the A/B comparison: It's easier to hear the difference between the unprocessed and processed sound if you play a section with the effect bypassed and then play the same section again with it on (or vice versa). If you turn it on/off as the audio is playing you're not hearing an actual A/B comparison
Every time when i thought i have a certain knowledge about a specific topic, Devvon brings out a new video and teaches us more cool stuff :) In this case how you easy adjust the compressor settings to have a more controlled vocal sound. Thank you for this great, easy to follow and informative videos Devvon :)
I couldn't tell you how many videos I've watched. Deadass if school taught like this I feel a lot more people would actually learn and retain the knowledge. You've definitely helped my mixing skills over the last two years. In sales we have a saying called "K.I.S.S the customer" which means to "Keep It Simple Stupid" and that's exactly what you do with every single video I've seen. Much love bro!
My Guy.... Honestly Before I started Using Protools,I Didn't know Anything,But You have Been A great Great Forwardness To my Sound And My techniques For Producing Better Quality Music. Thank You My Brother!
Thank you bruh , alot of YT’bers are reading textbooks to us , im not here for the exact definition , you explained it in a way that I understand what everything does . Thanks again !
'Been able to get through' is a key statement. Anyone tried to learn from the high-flyers and big production youtubbers? Those guys are, on the whole, difficult to stick with, lousy educators or subconsciously self-important because they left the basics behind years ago; ergo, their 'tutorial' can hardly be completed because it's pitched at 'their' level. Furthermore, Devvon is a 100% people-person and has an engaging personality that makes his tutorials sparkle - I learn from this guy. Thanks, wee man, and greetings from Scotland👍
Great video on explaining this because I have new and upcoming techs for my church and compression is hard for me to explain without losing them. Definitely saved the video
I kind of knew how compressors worked before but have been struggling to figure out how to make my vocals sound not crappy quality, and I'm really hoping this helps because the way you break it down makes sense and sounds like something I might be able to do even though I still need to build an ear for these things
This is exactly what I've been looking for. Some people teach and some people are teachers. You my friend are a teacher. Thank you for all the many gems you have given us. You are literally saving me from $50,000 in debt. (Fullsail). Do you do private sessions? Because I'd rather pay you before paying them.
Thank you brotha! Found out about you with your collabs with futuristic back in the day and to see you branch out and make this channel is so dope! This is the tutorial I needed as well been looking everywhere 🙏
When you are developing your intuition and are learning how to apply compression-make sure that you do no LUFS metering before and after and turn up the output gain so that the better sound comes from the increased volume instead of actually shaping the dynamics or saturation.
Question Why do much db reduction when most people recommend somewhere between 3 to 6 db of reduction Lower ratio and slower attack probably gives room to get more reduction and still sound more natural? Just wondering how you get away with so much reduction and still sound clean like that
0:55 curious why you have a longer than usual attack time on the compressor for this lead vocal? Obviously it's not THAT long of an attack time, but definitely much longer than what I typically use and see for a lead vocal. With my lead vocals.. or even vocals in general, my attack time is usually no longer than about 10ms. Not saying you're doing it wrong Devvon! Just wondering if perhaps there's something I'm doing wrong or why maybe you went with a longer attack time specifically for this song/vocals?
I love the way how easy you explain such complete things I appreciate you for that u helped a lother artists in their carrrers even if they don't give you the credits you deserve ... appreciate you for that
hi devon, I follow you from africa precisely the ivory coast and I wanted to tell you that I learned a lot from you I watched all your videos, and this video on the 3 steps to compress the voice well you had already done but on the latter you returned to the 3 bottom buttons (ARC -MANUAL) if it is possible for you to return to the Mixbus that would be really interesting

You're a great mixing teacher
the waves renaissance stuff really is legendary for hip hop
The good ol' R-Comp.

I’m sure you get this question a lot.. but do you record vocals with compression already on it? Or is it just preference? Thanks Devvon!
Excellent compression technique!
Dude, great video! You do an awesome job of breaking this stuff down and explaining. Thanks!

Bro youre a great teacher
Wow Devvon is truly the best
So doesn't the auto release knob work to whatever your release settings anyway like in logic? It just makes it more fluent to your settings I'm sure?
once again,, if "Thorough walkthru-" were a person-,, can't thank you enough sir-,, priceless info
Anytime friend!
Not gonna lie I've learned a lot from this man... thank you very much bro

About to recompress 😂 thanks Devvon
This tutorial has helped me thanks
Super clear as always!
Thanks! I didn't have a idea what Ratio did or Attack and release, now it make sense!
Wondering if you have a video for the importance of the order of plugins in your vocal chain?
eq then compression always first after that you can start detail mixing
or compression then eq depends on the artist / engineer
To witness this in action join me on my channel, where I showcase it regularly and provide practical demonstrations!
Definitely needed this 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Very well explained. Awesome..
YOU Are Good You also Explained this perfectly Thanks Brother from antiker Mother 🔥👌🏾❤️
This topic had been beat to death. Same info i got from 2009 YT tutorials. Props to you for getting to the bag tho broham 😂💯
Thank you so much for this video, I almost gave up engineering my music
Best explanation , thanks a lot
the best teacher
Hey first thanks for tutorials, I was wondering do you place your compression for the (Vocalist) while you’re recording or after the recording?
thank you devvon, youre crazy good with explaining THANK YOU !!
Thanks really needed this video.
Anytime got them coming every Monday!

Your a great teacher but your music is amazing as well man🤯 thanks for all the help💯💯
Preciate your passion for sharing the knowledge you have brother.
Awesome video! Where did the number 12 db of gain reduction come from?
How did you get those 'Mix' & 'Trim' knobs?
Hey should I be using fruity limiter for compression or should I buy Rvox? Or is there no difference?
Wow, i feel Now i can dare to let preset, thank you very much 🙏
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Have you ever tried using a limiter and clipper on your vocals? much then results then compressing in my opinion
Always helpfull😉
should i use waves stereo or mono plugins on vocals ?
I love the way how easy you explain such complete things I appreciate you for that u helped a lother artists in their carrrers even if they don't give you the credits you deserve ... appreciate you for that
Very valuable vid dev
Hey bro I bought one of your templates I love it but I noticed the mixs are in mono you think it better to mix that way ?
Genius.
im stckin w u devvon, im stickin w u

Release is the length of time the compressor will hold AFTER it goes Below the threshold.. correct? It's not a static time? Or am I misunderstanding
This was super helpful
You earned a new sub my guy omg
the only one on UA-cam who talks about ratio right
Can you tell me in which part of the vocal chain you put it?
Salute You my brother for the time and work you put in to get this content out to the people.....#PeoplesChamp
If i use maximizer and then vintage limiter, any difference?
thanks bro this video was very helpful
Thanks for the info
