Hi Devon, Thank you so much for the tutorial. This Helps me A LOT. I used to only EQ with my ears and eyes but without any theory, I'm really excited to try this out rn.
The only question that is left for me is in the 90hz below range. You've talked about how it could affect your vocal and that Room tones and the Low end rumble lie in that rnage.
My Question is which specific upsides this range brings. Maybe not for Vocals but for other Instruments like basses.
Thank you very much and greetings out of Germany.
Your kick usually hits around 60hz. Below that are also your sub frequencies. You can feel those in your body if you have a sub or big speakers.
The upside the lower range brings (90hz) is it makes your bass and kicks sound fuller and punchy as well.
@@lo-filogic so are u saying we shouldn't roll off 90hz and below because that would affect the kick?
You going to heaven just for this comment alone.
Thanks for the comment, just what I was looking for
He gets wiser the more his beard grows
The beard is the secret behind his skills
Lmaoo the beard is power!!
And when he decides to cut it? Lolz
@@emmanuelabiodun782 depends on what he is trying to achieve, if he cuts around 300 we get more clarity in his knowledge :D :D
Joe Black and if he boosts in the hi’s we’ll be able to understand him better.
This is honestly the FIRST time I've EVER understood what EQing is. Thank you so much for making this video.
Agreed!!
No doubt about it
Same here, I’ve took online courses and read books. This was the clearest explanation of all the frequencies.
Agreed!
Brooo🥲
Devvon, I am a 70 year old rhythm guitarist in a band and songwriter with a very nice home studio. For years I have been concerned with the levels of each channel in relation to the others. EQ has always been a struggle, which was most often overlooked.
This tutorial has given me the basics to go back to previously recorded band and solo projects and enhance, not just balance the sound.
Thank you, You can teach an old dog new tricks!
Lo (90Hz and below) *rumble and plosives
Lo-Mid (100-300Hz) *warmth, mud, boom
Upper Lo-Mid (350-600Hz) *boxy tone
Mid (1000-4000Hz) *harshness, presence
Hi-Mid (5000-8000Hz) *brightness, clarity
Hi (10KHz and up) *air
Thank you! You don’t realize how many years I just been boosting and cutting, not knowing wtf is going on and why lol
EQing by ear is a good start
So many, too many "pro" weekend hobbiest are out there giving advice not knowing what they're teaching. HelpMeDevon may not have as many years wasted in the studio as I have, (thank God), but he sure does have valuable advice! Apply what you heard here and you will save yourself years of working with a producer who is learning as he/she goes!😃
I don’t have a pc I record my music on my phone but still worth the watch for when I get one thank you devvon 🙏🏾
The only advertisement worth clicking on, you're doing god's work man, appreciate it
Dude, you're a hero and a saint. May the children sing songs in your honor 🎖
bruh..from watching him as an artist back when him and futuristic were collabing to now having him teach me how to mix. i love this guy 👍
Yoooo that’s crazy... I just put two and two together lmao. That’s why his voice sounded so familiar 😭
brooo that’s why he look so familiar
Can never learn too much about EQing
Right
Facts, music in general!!
me too
These videos always make me a better engineer
Whenever I search something on youtube to better understand how to make better audio, I always look to see if I can find this guy first
Dude - this probably the best EQ vid I’ve seen since YT started. You’re articulate, you’re intelligent, you have great camera presence, you don’t curse like a sailor for no reason, and your content and Zen is solid. Very nice work, and thanks! 👍🎶
In these videos, they do one high pass on the eq and it already sounds better than my whole mix
66 people mad they can’t simplify EQ like this. This introduction will take a beginner far. Well done you got my follow.
Man this is honestly the best video about EQ I've ever seen
Haven't even watched and already know this is gold
The most accessable tutorial I've ever seen, much appreciated
I can't tell you how many times I've watched this video. Thank you Devvon.
That Floating F6 EQ is a BEAST..... MUST HAVE EQ

Nailed it bro. Really is the last EQ video you would ever need. EQ 101 explained.
Compression next please. Thank you
Agreed
He has plenty of compression videos already
@@yoboi2.044 i should have been more specific i want one just on the 1176.
@@cobie1990 he uses that only.. it's a simple compressor .. input output .. attack release and ratio .. that's it .. basic stuff all compressors have
@@yoboi2.044 okay we get it not everyone knows as much about compressors like you 😂 what he was saying is that he wants the same type of video In terms of going hella in depth but just on compression.
I've watched this 10 times within the past 12 hours. Thank you so much for this knowledge, really appreciate you giving back SO MUCH!
I’m glad it helps!
great tips! loved this!
Dots connected! Thank you Devvon!
You speak with so much confidence and clarity. Makes me really want to listen and learn. Great work!
Probably one of the easiest to understand tutorials on EQ I've ever watched! Also, made me feel a bit validated since I've already been doing a lot of these things. Great job!
So dang helpful. Gave me deeper knowledge and understanding so I know what sections bring out what elements.
Dude you're amazing!!
Devvon is sooo goated!
Great video. It takes patience to sit through a 20 minute video when the concepts are completely new, but this was extremely helpful. My biggest takeaway was breaking up the EQ on a scale: low, low-mids, mids, high mids, high (and assigning hertz to each band and understanding impact of a cut or boost for each). The biggest challenge is understanding the vocabulary and application. Thanks!
More love mann!!! I would love a tutorial on how to use multiband compression and when its need vocals specifically 🙏😭
Agreed
This was awesome! Thanks Devon!
This is sooooooo awesome!
Hello Devvon. Great tutorial as always:)
Can you please make tutorial on Stereo Field and how to pan things around freqency spectrum + some basic rules? I feel like this is the topic not many producers talk about. It would really help me. Thank you!
I got ya!
Damn these Dt770 are good Lol I heard the dog in the background lol BTW great tutorial

@@skyauthor6679 email me at helpmedevvon@gmail.com I’ll take care of ya!
@@HelpMeDevvon I already had sent one not sure if you got it
Bruh. All u do is sell stuff on your website. Ridiculous, that's your idea of helping with vocal chains?? Plus this video wouldve been far greater of u just showed a freaking chart with numbers so maybe others can screenshot, etc.
As a total layman I can’t hear anything that he’s talking about.
Helped out! Great job man
Absolutely amazing!
Thank you Devvon
Devvon is the man !
Great video! Thank you!

DEVVON THANK YOU BROTHER
Great job man thanks 🙏
Love this, thank you
Much needed and appreciated
Great tutorial
You're amazing! Thanks
one thing I've noticed for years, EQs show the numbers in the places where those ranges exist. That's pretty helpful, and when you put these elementary principles to what you know, this video helps even more. 23 years exp.
Your great at this
What a great video. Thank you Devvon!
Excellent! Keep up the Great work!
Excellent video bro 💯💪🏾
