Your ability to breakdown things so thoroughly is amazing bro.Not to mention you're a very talented singer song writer. Thanks for sharing your knowledge 👌
Most of the people providing mixing tutorials talk trash and give you a little just to be interested in their products. I really admire you Devvon because you actualy care about your listeners and enjoy what you are doing. I will definetely support this chanel, thanks for your hard work and dedication!
For years, my vocals in my compositions sounded lackluster. Yep, that was before the advent of digital recording. I'm talking 2" tape, folks. Now, after watching Devvon's video, I am armed with incredible knowledge on how to improve the sound of my lead vocals. If they sound soft or disinteresting, I know how to dial in the fix. Thanks Devvon, you're a righteous guru, my man.
I just put 16 Multi Band Compressors(with 3 bands) on a vocal, yeah im a little crazy. It was for experiment purposes, but it sounded so good, that i keep it. The result is a VERY tight sound, very clear(obviously with good recorded vocals), right in the front of the mix, and very commercial sounding. With an EQ after you can achieve great results. After doing it, my creativity just went crazy, i was able to hear many more things production and mix wise. I like to almost over-compress below 190hz and boost as much i compress. My CPU still on fire but it was worth the effort. Great video!!
Hey Devvon, I was struggling with vocals, then I found your channel and I've learned everything I didn't learned before by following other channels. Just wanna say thank you. My Style is not even RnB, or HipHop, or even Pop! But your tutorials are really good!
Thanks for the video. I like how you don’t over edit, you made a mistake? So what? You you say sorry and go on, you know like a real human being. Brilliant.
Great explanation. I have the Waves C4 and this is the first video that actually explained it in a way my tiny brain was able to grasp. Thank you, Devvon!
Without even finish whatching this video , I came to comment and say this is a really good video , well explained and everything , BRAVO!! I really learned something thanks to you!
I'm gonna be a pro because of you and I trust your expertise because unlike some tutorials your tracks hit different. Sonically, they're mastered to perfection because they're something I could listen to or would like my music to sound like. Gotta give you props cus you're really talented. If they ask I went to Devvon University Of Music via UA-cam. Oh wait, that spells DUMY.. we'll work on the name lmao
WOOOOW even though I have used Multiband Comps before I never realised that I am actually losing volume in the bands when compressing, I thought that the volume difference was just the frequencies being ducked...damn I think that gain thing is gonna help a lot. Thank you man you are the best
My favourite bit was when you spoke to the multiband like you were about to go for a drink with it "Hey multiband, I only want you to take 5db out this time" 😂 absolutely awesome tutorial as always, wish I had this 6 months ago hahah
I always hated multibands then i started using them 2 weeks ago to once you understand it boy that ish levels up your whole game!!! c4 and c6 are my go to, if you struggling then start with a dynamic EQ like waves f6 or fabfilter pro q3.
That was helpful and beneficial. While I'm more artist than engineer, some concepts go over my head/ears, however, I am thankful for the simplicitiy and ease in this video. I appreciate, thank you.!
Thank you for this Devon!!! You really cleared up things for me! I purchased this multiband compressor but didn’t know how to use it. I’m really trying to get my vocals to sound the best they can. Thanks again!
I always remove and fix unwanted frequencies before compressing to make the compressor happy and so the problematic frequencies don’t build up. Multi band compression helps out a lot to fix problematic frequencies.
Do even know that you outchea birthing beasts Devvon...you the best to ever do it bro. Thanks for giving us who can't afford these expensive schools a chance!!
Logic pro x would think its called multipressor if so 100 percent right a must for bringing out vocals. Been following got notifications ON just stopped studio recording. More then worth it 💯🆙️
Devvon, could you please start doing mix breakdowns of your personal songs? Songs like Cancel Culture, Temperature and all your hits! It’d be lovely to see what the process was. ❤️
Thank You DeVVon, you explain it so well in all of your videos, Subscriber for LiFe! Just wondering does it make a difference if i do this first before I'm tackling the EQ or do the EQ first and then work on the compression part? Thank you!
A lot of helpful words from you about this compressor! Thank you much! By the way, you could also showed how you use it with your songs usually) But it doesn't really matter for me! Thank you again! :)
Great content Devvon. I like the vocal game you're bringing in your vids. For me, processing and mixing bass into the mix is an issue. Particularly controlling the rumble while maintaining fullness.
The fact that this man has singlehandedly taught me everything I know about engineering 🤯
Facts.
I went to school for engineering and yet I still learned more for him than any school. The man should have his own school.
@@johnniejackson3154 what school did you go to? im tryna choose a good oneee
@@johnniejackson3154 Same here... It's a shame I even paid for that school in first place
Broo It’s crazy... best decision I’ve ever made. Now I make music in my room🤧
maaan, we’re ready for the big “mixing start to finish” video

Thanx, From Gabon 🇬🇦!
Thank you for this Devon!!! You really cleared up things for me! I purchased this multiband compressor but didn’t know how to use it. I’m really trying to get my vocals to sound the best they can. Thanks again!

This guy make me realize things like no other man you rock bro love you !
so could you explain how should figure out how much gain should be brought up on certain frequencies
Do even know that you outchea birthing beasts Devvon...you the best to ever do it bro. Thanks for giving us who can't afford these expensive schools a chance!!
I know this is old but you made this so simple
this video is so underated omg
Appreciate you a lot for this. I finally have courage to use this beast. Where would you put the c4 in your vocal chain?
You can put it after your main compressor or before, depending on the sound your going for. You can even use it on the overall mix on a mixbus
@@maavinomusiq good looks b!
Watching from South Africa 🔥🔥🔥
The question is, though:
How to define those frequency ranges correctly to earn maximum benefit from using m-band compressor on vocal?
Helpful! I use the C4 for Upward compression also to add clarity, warmth and brightness. It's a great plugin. Bless up!🇯🇲✌
Only channel i keep watching next video , great ceo
Thank you some much brother devvon I've been waiting for this video from you for so long big love man! 💯🙏🙏👊

When In the chain is it best to multiband compress?
Awesome explanation and demo! I finally get it. Can’t wait to play around with MBC.

Devvon I have a question. Which Fx Plugins do you feel really make vocals mainstream quality? Can u make a tutorial on this?
@Help Me Devvon. This information was very helpful to me. Thanks for sharing this. Much appreciated!
Dear brother, how much is the price to make a full song? mixing and mastering.... PLEASE ANSWER ME
Bought to cop C4 after this lmao great content sir!
One of my favorites
I saw you use this plug in another video. Thanks for going into it here!
Would you use multi band compression before or after u clean the vocal with a multi band eq ?
What are the “feelings” to look for that indicate I should reach for a multiband?
Thank You Devvon !
I've learning a lot from your channel man ✊
Do you do parallel compression with multiband compression? 🍄
Thank You DeVVon, you explain it so well in all of your videos, Subscriber for LiFe! Just wondering does it make a difference if i do this first before I'm tackling the EQ or do the EQ first and then work on the compression part? Thank you!
Hello Devon. I love ur tutorials. Am a producer from Cameroon.
Would you typically use it after an EQ?
So is a dynamic eq the same as a multiband compressor??
youre a genius well explained bro
A lot of helpful words from you about this compressor! Thank you much!
By the way, you could also showed how you use it with your songs usually)
But it doesn't really matter for me! Thank you again! :)
Mix start to finish? 💪🏾
Great content Devvon. I like the vocal game you're bringing in your vids. For me, processing and mixing bass into the mix is an issue. Particularly controlling the rumble while maintaining fullness.
Try a low cut/ hi pass, at maybe 20-30hz. 12 dB curve. And if it still rumbly, put a shelf and lower the bass area 0,5-1,5 dB. Works for me 😄
@@Turd_Polish thx a lot. Appreciated.
@@KeithMarloWatchAndPlayOnline I hope it worked for you 😊
How can you put you vocal recordings all on one channel without it overlapping?
U can’t and if u did it wouldn’t sound right
@@philmomslim526 thanks bro I was asking because he has all his recordings are on one track but he’s not punching in like rappers so that’s why lol.
When is the best instance to throw it in the vocal chain?
Love your tutorials man
I see Devvon I click.
Not a bad thing to live by lol
This is explanatory ❤❤❤
Would you use the MB compressor before or after other compression (CLA-76, RVOX, RCOMP)?
You can do this really nice with soothe 2. More invisible.
