Android Mod: Boot automatically when plugged in [REQUIRES ROOT]
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 бер 2016
- Check the description of this video, Some viewers have contributed some additional information on how to do this on other models of phones, and also ES File Explorer no longer allows access to the needed options for group ownership as discovered by Mikey J Hayes, Try using File Root File Explorer by JRummy Apps or another file explorer if you're having issues.
I also suspect this only works on Samsung phones, but some other manufacturers may use the same setup. Easy enough to check for the lpm or playlpm file and then you know!
Today I walk you through modifying a system file to automatically boot your android phone up when it is plugged into power, even if the battery is dead.
The file to modify is /system/bin/lpm
rename it to lpm.old
create a new file named lpm, edit it to have these commands in it:
#!/system/bin/sh
sleep 20
/system/bin/reboot
Change line termination to unix (possibly not necessary)
change permissions to RWX R-X R-X
Change group owner to shell
Enjoy!!
If you want it to boot quicker, lower the number after the sleep command, or omit that line completely, it may be worse for the battery though.
Information contributed by viewers that may help with your phone:
🔸Guillermo C Said that on Philips Xenium W3500 the file you need to work with is called "ipod"
🔸Cerberus Group Says that If you can't find the lpm or playlpm file, look for kpoc_charger. Most chinese phones use that file
🔸Benjamin K reported that for xperia active the file is called /system/bin/chargemon but changes to that file seem like they don't change the behavior, so there may be some kind of fallback if the phone sees that file has been changed.
🔸Artur Wiśniewski Said you should add a new line after /system/bin/reboot or it may just reboot to recovery.
🔸Muhammad Imran mentioned a way to do this on a Samsung galaxy S6, Click the link below and scroll to the comments and his comment should be highlighted: • Android Mod: Boot auto...

Awesome! Good to see an update that this can still work, it's been forever since I made this video
Did you have to root ?
Excellent! Got it working on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite SMT-110
My In Car Dashboard install is now complete. Thanks man!

Hi @ trythisiptv thanks for the video!! This video is the best walkthrough video i have seen in recent times!! You have explained every step and did a recheck of the modified settings which gives us confidence that we are doing the right way and we dont have to surf through the video again. I appreciate your work and this video a lot. Thank you.
Thank you for brief explanation on how to access autoboot or startup file on rooted phone/tablet.
Works perfect for my samsung galaxy s4 gt i9505. Very well explained, thank you very much
You are very welcome! glad it worked for you!
Sm T230 - Works perfectly!!! Thanks!

I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2019) sm-t510 and when I plug in the USB, the power logo is there but never boots. I have to hard reboot without the cable and it boots fine. Any idea? The only thing that I can find is that the GID will not stay set to shell. Reverts back to root.
This tutorial is awesome. I damaged the switch button of my android, i found this solution here on youtube. Totally my problem was solved within 2 hours before my battery totally died :D
Sweet! thanks for the feedback, glad you managed to save a device!
Any idea if already change the name to be lpm.old and then click "done" the result is "task failed".
There's no *lpm file in /system/bin on my LOS 14.1
I cant change group permission to shell. I have only one option - root. How can I find option - shell?
You are genious. Thanks friend
cant get this to work with samsung galaxy S4. ES file explorer not available so used different file manager. Could not see/change line terminator and could not change group owner to shell. any suggestions?
Way to go!
It doesn't work with Samsung Note 4. I tried it in various ways, but I failed. When I plug the phone into the charger, the battery picture appears on the screen and the phone freezes. I need to remove the battery and insert it again in order to operate the phone. is there any solution?
Great it is work on galaxy S5, Thanks
I couldn't find the file, how did you do it?
Brilliant worked for me on old samsung galaxy core prime SM-G361F. I used root explorer v4.10.3 to change lpm file.
Works on Samsung Tab 4. Thanks

I almost broke my device, its not starting (Samsung Tab3). Do you have any recovery method?
my tab t500 doesnt work the code works, but its not the lpm file anymore, there comes a image before it

sir, what's the name of file explorer you used in this video and developer name? Please share app logo to identify correct apk or links in Google drive because in old phones, most apk don't support. So logo and developer name is most important.
Hi, thank you for the effort and the good video. I however have a Lenovo Yoga Tab, YT3-850M and none of the files listed in the description exist under bystem/bin. Any idea what the file name would be in this tablet, or if there are some guidelines by which I can locate the file?
Thank you
Thanks a lot.
Works on GT-I9305
What is the lmp file named in huawei phones?
hello, great video. My mechanical on/off button is not working...this is a big problem if battery falls.
I have rooted www.allviewmobile.com/index.php/viva-h8-life.html
but there is no "Ipm" or play "playIpm" file...the most simlar is "pm" file.
My question is what is written to the original "Ipm", there is a lot of files in my tablet and i'am looking for the right one.
Thank You.
If lpm or playlpm is not found, look for kpoc_charger... It will help in most china phones
Awesome! Thanks for the comment, hopefully this will help out some viewers. I'll add that info to the description!
Hey brother, my android phone (nokia) c20 is automatically turning on when I plug usb for charging. I never enabled it. Can you help my ozone get back in the the Normal condition. I need to charge my phone when it's off.

Hi Bro, Im have a Samsung Note 8, i follow ur step, but it dont work . I dont know why? Can u help me?
I have a problem after this setting my galaxy tab 3 turn on in hard reset mode or fastboot mode???
You should be able to boot into system from fastboot/bootloader, then you need to double check your lineendings, if you don't get that set correctly it can cause the device to boot into the bootloader instead of booting to system. Try using File Root File Explorer by JRummy Apps or another because the ES file explorer I used in the video no longer has the same options in the same place.
its not working for Samsung SM-X205 A8 Tablet. any solution?
I have samsung A750 which boots to TWRP after usb plugged in or power button pressed. If i want it boot to android I have to press @reboot to system@ on twrp. WTF ?
Did not work for me.. i had no lpm file, but making one did not solve it. (Samsung J3)
How do you get to that list of files etc? My tablet has nothing like that? I have file manager but then no device, system etc etc.
The tablet or phone must be rooted to begin, and you'll need to use a file manager that supports root filesystem access like ES explorer, Solid Explorer or another like those, otherwise you won't be able to get access to the system files
What kind of file manager do you use?
Thanks!!
This worked with rooted Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2019) sm-t510. Thank you!
Thanks for the feedback!
How did you manage to get it work? I have also the same tablet and rooted and when i try to add that code and the right permissions it will get stuck on the charge logo.
what if i want to remove that option from my phone...i mean what if i want to see the battery logo instead when i plugged it on...what should i do ?
arnab jan same here
Just replace the new file you created with the old original file
I just get a battery icon with a lighning in it after doing this. Any idea whats wrong? It's a Galaxy s4 active btw.
Same for me in j7pro plz advise
thank you so much
Glad it helped you!
Hi,On the properties on the lpm file I can only choose "root" as the Group, I don't have "Shell" ?
What device are you using? Some are different, this was done on a Samsung Galaxy s4, and a s3 was tested as the same, I haven't tried much with newer phones though
Me too! Sam A300fu
Change line termination to unix (possibly not necessary). is very necessary on some devices otherwise it will only boot into recovery mode
worked great! I'm looking for a way to also tell the device to shut down when usb power is disconnected. do you have info on that? Looking to use a tablet as a permanently mounted device in a car.
I know Tasker can do it, The learning curve is a tiny bit steep but you can automate near anything with tasker. there is an option in the system category named reboot, you can change the option from normal to shutdown and that should power your device off, from there making a profile that activates when the device has stopped charging, it would even be feasible to make several tasks, so it would remain on for a minute, but push a toast notification that the device was about to power down, then power down if power wasn't restored, in the event your car stalled or something and you had to re-cycle the key it wouldn't power down the tablet and power it back up for a momentary power loss.
@@trythistv thanks. I actually got it to work with a similar app called macroDroid.

is there any way to do this some phone, that doesn't turn on while alarm already been set. (i mean, alarm doesn't work if the phone powered off)
That was exactly the reason I did this modification, it is a shame it doesn't work this way on every phone, I'm not sure what is needed for other phones.
It does not work on Samsung s2 gt-i9100
Mine boots into recovery mode. Is there a way to tweak for it to boot normally?
Gary, I missed to change the permissions, same problem for me. Maybe check the permissions...
I'm having this problem as well
finally I found what I was looking for, for the openwrt project and the redmi 4x which automatically boots
Results please?
@@furniturejepara7159 well done.
Anyone know how to do this on LinageOS 14?
Anyone know which file ASUS use?
Works on Samsung Galaxy A7.0 (SM-T280)
lpm is for Samsung devices only probably, for others the filename is playlpm
i tried with Tab A 10.1 T515. When i plug in USB, it stuck in main screen. the only thing you can see its power circle with no percentage indication. Any advice would be helpful. FYI i use for in dash car project
Somehow I missed your comment! I am incredibly sorry! There are several things to check, first I've seen horrible issues caused by the line endings, did the editor you used have the ability to choose Unix line endings rather than dos/windows line endings? I have other new ideas I need to look into for a more universal method but it's not really a complete process yet
@@trythistv no worries man thank you for your replies. I will have to rooted again and make sure use editor that allow extensions editor. I will provide you with the output when I am ready
It won't allow me to create a new LPM files in the Bin folder. My Samsung Tab A6 is already rooted too.
I have the same problem on my note 3 (SM-N9005)
Check my reply to a comment above
i don't find this lpm file in all view viva c703 !
I tried this on a samsung galaxy s5. it works but it always boots up in recovery booting. is there a way that it doesn't go to recovery booting?
All the issues I had with booting to recovery was due to wrong line endings or some other issue with the new lpm file
what if i find lpm file and i manage rename old one as lpm.old and tryed to put those thing in new versio of it but it seems i cant save it or i cant delete it anymore what to do?
What file manager are you using, and if you renamed the lpm file then you've gotta be rooted, is there a possibility your explorer app lost root access?
@@trythistv hmm i had try this root browser classic and when i try to replace some files it just keep loading or trying to remove new just created thing its like loading forever
Thanks, working perfectly on samsung tab A6 (SM-T280).
Though is it possible to do the same thing to turn it off?
If no charge detected turn the device off.
I use tasker for this function. It works pretty well.
Hi, thanks for your great contribution. In a samsung galaxy J5 2016 works perfectly, but in a j3 2017 does not work, the difference is in the android versions, in the J5 is an android 6 and in the j3 2017 is an android 7.0 The lpm flie is the same, I do all the same, but in J3 2017 starts but the screen stays on with nothing and does not start the system. For J3 2017 there is still no TWRP, that's another of the differences, I'm working with CWM. Any idea to make it work? Any additional permissions to activate? Many thanks and sorry for my english, I need to improve it...
Do you have a Samsung Galaxy J5 J510F? I sold the galaxy s4 i9506 not started automatically every time. Yours does not have this problem?
Doesn't work on Galaxy Mega 6.3. It keeps 'bootlooping' to the battery animation unless I pull the cord.
Did you double check you had the proper line ending/line break set, it alternately just doing the /sbin/reboot or whatever the line was in the video by itself without the #/bin/bash and sleep 20 lines?
@@trythistv I tried many variants but I think the Mega just isn't ready for boot on charge haha. It will probably be replaced with a Nexus 7 with a custom kernel.
That's a bummer! The Nexus devices do offer a lot more customization. Sometime I want to test out what's going on with some of these devices, it should work but I do know es made some changes to their explorer editor stuff, and it's entirely possible the locations for files has moved or names changed.
Sir,in my gt s5360,there is no LPM file. There is Playlpm file. What should i do? Should i make another file as playlpm.
Correct! On some models the file was lpm, others playlpm.
sir, what's the name of file explorer you used in this video and developer name? Please share app logo to identify correct apk or links in Google drive because in old phones, most apk don't support. So logo and developer name is most important.
in the video I used ES File Explorer made by ES Global, but I have heard it no longer works for this, Another viewer commented the other day and said Root Explorer made by Speed Software worked for him.
Hi, file lpm nor playlpm exist to me.. any ideas? if you could screenshot the content of the original file i would be grateful.
Pavel Sid what phone do you have?
trythisiptv LG tablet v410, also google search suggested files named "icon", which couldnt find either.
hi,
working samsung s4 thank you..
I have a question,
with the same method, is it possible to automatically boot my android phone up as soon as plugged in the batterry (without power cable) ?
I'm not aware of a way to do that, but that's definitely not proof there isn't a way to do it, I'm just not an expert by any means. If I hear of a way I'll reply back with it though!
It works on Samsung Galaxy Core 2.
Working great with Galaxy Tab A
What version of OS did you get this to work with in the Tab A?
there is no file named lpm
its works with Samsung Galaxy s5 mini!! THANKS!!!!!!!
My Note 3 is Rooted. I found the lpm file, renamed it to lpm.old. But I could not create a new file. What could be the problem?
Does it give you any errors? It could be a write permission type issue
Ludvig Collin try to use es file explorer pro
Did you have any success? I'm having the same issue with the Note 3.
Probably because the system partition is read only so try this command on a terminal emulator
su
mount -o remount, rw /system
The first command is to get root (works only on rooted devices) and the second command mounts the system partition to read and write after this try editing or creating the files using any file explorer like x-plore or mixplorer or root browser or..... Also watch out for the spaces in between the command and the options if it's not given correctly will throw an error.
Anybody ever have any luck with this on a Galaxy S7? I can’t for the life of me get it to work. When saving the lpm file, it changes the read/write options and the owner/group options. On plug in, it sits with the charge logo and only starts with a hard reboot
same problem
Is it the same method for the Android 8 or there is something else for it? Thank you in advanced.
This only worked on some samsung devices, I haven't found a way to do this on any of my newer phones.
It didn't completely work... can someone help me? The phone does boot but it boots into recovery mode. please can you help get it to boot into normal mode (galaxy s5)?
I've seen issues with booting to recovery from the line endings being set wrong, or something askew in the file otherwise. Also another viewer discovered that ES file explorer no longer works for this, File Root File Explorer by Jrummy Apps has been reported to work properly.
@@trythistv thank you, I've used file root file explorer when es file explorer failed. I added a space at the end of the line, didn't work. I added another line with the space I made, didn't work. I then left the extra line and deleted that space, didn't work. I tried all, it seems.
I have got to the point where you change permissions, my group only has root option, nothing else (not shell)? Any ideas?
Ahhhh Fixed it using your theory with File Root File Explorer by JRummy Apps (Black logo with thunderbolt)! Allows the same access as shown on the video to shell group etc!
AHA! I'm thrilled you not only figured it out but posted back here, I thought ES had changed, and you've got proof for everyone! I'll update the description in hopes others will see it!
Thank you for your help 👌
Glad to help!
Galaxy S4 I9500 operation successfull 👍 thank you
work good on tab a
Will it charge itself if battery is in below 20?
Yes, if your phone is one that this mod is able to be done on (appears mostly samsung) it will keep trying to reboot while charging, I tested it with a fully drained battery on the s3 or s4 I used in the video, and it took maybe 2 minutes before it had enough power to actually boot, but it tried maybe 3 times to boot then went back to a black screen.
lol i trough auto on your phone it's only a boot faster that's why too fast

I believe it was es file explorer. I'm now using solid explorer as es started getting kinda weird and bloaty

Look for the file playlpm and follow the steps substituting playlpm for lpm.
Benjamin Burn playlpm not found
What is the lmp file named in huawei phones?
no lpm and playlpm files on sony phones ;P
on a rooted samsung Galaxy Note 8 it wouldn't let me rename the lpm file (I also noted it has quite some binary content)
Did you double check that you had remounted /system to readwrite? I have had issues with different filemanagers acting weird with the system partition too, I'm not sure what the best option is anymore
@@trythistv you're right... I had to use Filemanager +, because in ES Filemanager I didn't find how to get into /system. And in Filemanager+ I couldn't find a remount option ;)
@@trythistv used root explorer now, that worked... however boot doesn't work, phone only shows the charging symbol and stays there (looks bricked, but 3-button reboot works). So not the right solution for a Galaxy Note 8 it seems ;)
Anyone else ending up in recovery when it boots now?
Somewhere in the comments I chatted with another viewer about some possible causes of that, I can't seem to see it right off on my phone though. Had something to do with the line endings and one other line in the file

A50 u2 help
Hi! This video helped me make my galaxy s5 turn on automatically when I turn on my car. I use my s5 as a gps and dash cam. Anyway, i want to replace my s5 with my sam galaxy tab pro 10.1 running on lineage Os 14.1. Do you know how to do it? Thanks!
Different roms do this differently, I didn't fully understand that when I made this video, lpm is a samsung specific thing it seems. I'm not sure how lineageos does its charging animation but there is sometimes a file that can be edited, I'd just be guessing which one though.
Hi! Thanks for your video! I have a Motorola Moto G4 with Nougat. Do you
think it will work with this phone? Also, does it reboot even if the
phone was ON, or only while being OFF? In my case it is for a car. I
would like it to power ON/boot only if it was previously OFF and ideally
if the battery has been charged at least 5% or 10%.
+Enzo Alberti I'm not sure what phones it'll work on, as when I did this it was on a Samsung s3 and s4, both of which are rather old now, there are other ways if you're already rooted, which you would have needed for this mod anyway.
As to your question, it would not reboot the phone if it was on. Basically what this mod is doing is instead of showing the battery charging system when the phone is off and plugged in, it runs the reboot script, which since it's powered off, it won't power down but rather just boots normally.
This would be perfect for a car install, but your phone may require a different method to achieve it.
I may try doing a car phone/tablet install sometime soon, I've always kinda wanted to try it, and have been doing a ton of automotive mechanic type work which I decided I should probably film and upload even if it is a big change from the norm for my channel
I am doing a car phone install myself with a Motorola Moto G4. I am using Automate for automating all needed tasks (including cool animations and handy background processes). When I take out the key of the car, the phone stops charging (or being powered) and it goes automatically in Airplane mode and kills any unnecessary process. Everything works flawlessly! The only thing I am missing is the possibility to switch it on, automatically, when it is OFF. It rarely happens as it can stay in airplane mode for more than 10 days, but when it does happen (e.g. I have been on travel without the car) it is a boring process to extract it and switch it on again, hence my question! Unfortunately though I didn't find a way yet to achieve this, as in the Motorola Moto G4 (Nougat) there was no lpm file and/or group permission different from root unfortunately.
Ok, a couple more options that may work, each manufacturer uses different ways to accomplish this: check for /system/bin/charge_only_mode, or possibly /system/bin/chargemon, or /system/bin/playlpm, or also /system/bin/kpoc_charger
possibly also doing "fastboot oem off-mode-charge 0" from your computer when connected and in the phone is in fastboot mode may work
Ok, thanks for the hints, I will definitely give it a try!
Hi there, I finally found the solution for the Motorola Moto G4 (Nougat 7.0, rooted). It is basically a combination of the solutions above mentioned! Here's a quick summary of what I did: 1) Backup /bin/charge_only_mode (for example /bin/charge_only_mode.BK) 2) In bootloader mode (not to be confused with recovery mode), type "fastboot oem off-mode-charge 0" 3) Restart in normal mode 4) delete "/bin/charge_only_mode". Next time the phone is off and a USB charger is connected, it should switch on automatically.
Thank you. Is there a way to prevent autoboot on a device. My tablet does not have lpm or playlpm file. If I create lpm file is there a command that will prevent autoboot?
What tablet do you have? The lpm and playlpm files were only working on a few Samsung devices as it turns out. Other brands used different methods
