How to Unlock Bootloader on Android! [Android Root 101 #1]

- Want to root your Android smartphone or tablet? Want to install TWRP recovery and enjoy loads of custom ROMs available today for your Android device? Well, if so, in this tutorial I show you how to do exactly that starting with unlocking the bootloader. Before you can install TWRP recovery or install custom ROMs on your Android device, you will have to unlock the bootloader in most cases. Android devices guaranteed to work on: - Google devices like any Google Nexus or Pixel devices including Nexus 6, Nexus 6P, Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL and any other Google devices are supported.
All OnePlus devices are supported including OnePlus One, OnePlus Two, OnePlus 3/3T, OnePlus 5/5T, OnePlus 6, OnePlus 6T, OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 7T.
Any other generic Android devices most likely use this bootloader unlock method such as budget Android smartphones, tablets, or no-brand Android devices. For all devices supported/not supported by this bootloader unlock method, please check my website here:

You tutorial videos are the best on UA-cam. You give the exact step by step instructions unlike some of the other tutorials I have seen where they have only music and Captions where they skip a few steps on captions. You make unlocking and rooting simple for those people who are not as tech inclined. I fortunately am inclined in PC Mac/ Linux Android and IOS systems. Also you save people so much time by having the download files compiled and ready available. I wish i had tutorials like this when I was learning systems and coding with ADB. Keep up the wonderful tutorials for everyone my friend told me about this video who is not tech savvy but after watching your tutorials he rooted his phone and he was like I didn't without your help feeling accomplished so thank you for making people feel proud and accomplished for teaching them how to be techie.and not having to rely on a pro to do for them.

every time I try this on my Mac it moves fastboot out of my downloads folder automatically and fails the boot loader unlock command.
when at... "fastboot oem unlock" it says and it just stays there for minutes and nothing happens. i tried both commands in windows 10. windows says the best drivers are installed but i can't find my one plus phone in device manager
nevermind......... i used the most trusted os........ linux

@@FardinMirza download ADB driver for your device. if it still doesn't work, manually install the driver in device manager

My new Realme x50m says "This phone model does not support in-depth test."
In depth test is the app needed to unlock bootloader for realme phones. Any idea how to get around this? I'm completely stuck.
Thanks for the tip, if I ever need to bring my android for a repair, I'll never tell them that it's rooted. Usually, I fix everything on my own, which is the cool part of android. If you have an iphone and something happens with your device, yer f'd.

I clicked to download the Android for PC, but my browser stopped the tab from continuing, saying that quote,

The reason unlocking the bootloader usually performs a factory reset was actually originally designed to protect your data. That’s because back in 2010s, Android didn’t encrypt user data, so unlocking without factory reset would just bypass any screen lock and allow the thief to see your personal info. The "OEM unlocking" option under developer options was actually originally supposed to temporarily disable this factory reset protection (or FRP for short), so that unlocking wouldn’t erase your data, but it would re-enable itself after reboot if you didn’t unlock bootloader. However, on modern devices, which encrypt data, there isn’t much reason to factory reset, so companies do it just to annoy the user (if you know of another reason, let me know).

try bootloader maybe.
cd means going in a directory, which fastboot is a folder located outside of available storage/emulated/0 (or which is yours) you can go in.
When I start up the bootloader that screen doesn't show up it just gives me the power on screen and stays there

I'm trying to unlock my Moto G6, but it seems to be asking for an unlock code when I run the command.

Late reply, sorry. I know it doesn't matter anymore. When you unlock bootloader device security functions can't work and that means that your data can be exploited (someone can hack your phone). So their way to protect your data is to erase them. Stupid i know
because it wants you not to keep it because you are installing third party roms and some might not be safe

I have installed drivers correct and mine still says "< waiting for any device >"
try unplugging the phone when in the boot menu and pluging it back in. then execute *fastboot oem unlock*

yes in the simplest terms, but did you know newer phones like Pixel 2 use fastboot flashing unlock instead? You get B+ for the effort.

Hi I have one problem. After typing fastboot flashing unlock it wont bring the screen asking me if to unlock bootloader. it says that Device is already unlocked

So, how do you do this on an OPPO device? They have disabled access to the bootloader by disabling fastboot mode. It only reboots the device. Is there no one who knows how to get it done on OPPO?

Power down and ebter recovery Than usze Recovery to go to bootloader than Use the Fastboot commands. If you're using a Huawei Phone forget about rooting or Unlocking bootloader.
