The HIFLOW definitely looks better made than the others.
I’ve used that exact Harley filter on my ‘95 Road King for almost 30 years and 146,000 miles. Regular oil/filter changes and paying attention to your machine equals longevity.

The Fram has a larger rubber flapper gasket that prevents unfiltered oil from draining back into the engine when the motor is off. It has the bigger spring and bypass and even pleats, and from the break downs I’ve seen, it’s a much better filter than these here. And it’s like $12 dollars. I remember all the negative issues with Fram from years ago but their quality has improved here lately. I’ve never had any failure from a Fram and never had issues with abnormal wear in the engines I’ve used them on. Had a Honda Accord go 287,000 miles using Fram filters from the first oil change and that engine was still very strong when I sold it. Guy who bought it was the salesman at the dealership and he let his daughter use that car for college and when they finally sold it, it had over 450,000 miles on it. Still running great.

All three filters look very well-made and I especially like that upper bypass valve. Having said that, though, I think the hiflow gets the night as being the best one.

Definitely the Hiflow. All that media and holes in the center tube. I used Hiflow in my bike(cartridge) they're cheaper than k&n and just as good. Great video Pete. Thanks😊

I use HiFlo filters for last 15 years and have no issues at all. Sadly, there are too many fake HiFlo filters in our country. But it's easy to recognize them immediately in the parts shop. Just look in the thread hole - if you see too many glue and curved filter media - it's 100% fake. Oh, and the green color at the box is not very green:) Thank you for this video, nice job, as usual!

oh nice! was going to cut open my hi flow after the next oil change on my new to me 2000fxdwg after doing an oil change end of seaons this fall, looks like its good to go, few more on the way!
I just changed my oil on the Honda Fury. I put a Hi Flo hf 204 on it the last oil change. I cut it opened and was impressed with the build quality of the hi flo. I put on a Fram 6017a this time. In 3000 miles I will compare the Hi flo with the Fram. Great video.

Harley for the loss. I have not heard anything good about modern Harley filters. The orher two filters would definitely be a better choice. I sell a good number of Amsoil oil change kits for Harley motorcycles. Now, that I have seen the internals on a Harley filter, I can see why.

I use hiflo filters on my bike love them...found out there are 2 filters for my bike from hiflo....one without the nut on the end and one with the nut...I have used both...but I got a great deal on eBay for buying 8 filters....for about 8 bucks a piece....down to 2 left and about to order more.....

Hiflo is defiantly the best looking plus much more media. Sloppy glue on the Harley would be my last choice
Two of the filters have my preference of a coil spring and two of filters have my preference of a base end bypass valve.
I would need to know the micron rating and the type of filter media used to make the best evaluation choice here. The HD filter can is thicker walled, but what wall thickness is required in the application to avoid bursting. The # of holes in the baseplate only matters if the total surface area of the holes is smaller and restricts flow; otherwise the baseplate is stronger with fewer perforations. I personally don't care for the leaf spring for pressure control, but they are cost effective. I think if there is room for a longer Wix filter, and if one is available, that would be my pick. I've built and race cars and motorcycles which change filtering priorities. In racing you use a screen type filter to catch shrapnel if something breaks under hard use, as oil flow is the main objective and you change the oil after the race. For street and highway you want to filter the oil only to a point before the filter becomes a restriction itself. Change oil often, use the best you can afford and enjoy the machine.

Glad harley went to spin on oil filters ! My 81 sturgis takes a cartridge filter and its located in the oil tank under the seat ! But definitely the hi/flo for the win👍

Been using a K&N. I like it because of the built in nut on the filter
K&N + Amsoil gives me wonderful peace of mind.👍
That nut doesn't always translate into filter removal. I hade one that wouldn't come off. Had to use a strap wrench . Well really just my belt used as a wrench
Hi flo bypass valve will allow the filter to flow both directions, no important unless the oil lines are backwards, don’t ask me how I know….

Harley filter made by Champ Labs. They are the only ones I've seen using that type bypass design. Some M1 used use it. They also make the premium HD "5 micron" synthetic media filter. I put 5um in quotes because they don't give a % with it, so meaningless. I'm going to say one shown cellulose type, at most blended. HiFlo looks ok, too bad not made in USA and no efficiency rating. At least the Wix is an original design with based end bypass piece. But, made in Mexico and 50%@21um. The others have no rating so could be similar. So, of the three on appearance alone, take the "HiFlo". Thanks for vid.

Ran HD filter it collapsed and caused trouble.

I use to like wix filters but when they changed too Mann and Hummel there quality has gone down
Hiflo is all I use for my bikes, they are cheaper than most on Amazon, they are very robust, never had one let me down.

Definitely the HiFlo ,the Harley filter has so many holes in it that it probably leaks thru as much as a actual Harley leaks oil on the ground 😂

Looks like Harleys base plate is galvanized. I don't like louvers on WIX because of your video on closed holes. I guess Hi Flo is the best because of filter. Too bad u can't take all good & make an excellent one. 😁👍

Is there a point where a filter can be too restrictive? That’s my question about the hiflo. Not knowing this answer I might pick the wix
I can't give you that answer because I dont have the necessary equipment to test these filters, but I think if it was any better than 99% at 20 microns they would be putting that info on the filter box, as that would be a good selling point.

One of the reasons we harley owners change oil at 2,500 is due to that crappy filter. A shame whoever make them does not do better.

Next up juggling four filters? I've noticed that various filters results in higher and lower oil pressures based on media. I wonder how the HIFLOW would do in that respect.

Yep, that's the whole thing how much is too much filtration, the better the micron rating the more restrictive the filter media will be. I would think the Hiflo would be more restrictive but would it matter? I dont know.
@@WhipCityWrencher It really matters on my Cummins 5.9L as the engine runs at a very low RPM. The limits are 10psi at idle, 30psi at operating, and 65psi is the engine's bypass mechanism. I'm constantly having to downshift to keep above the 30psi with some filters. I like the Donaldson, but aFe seems to flow better. Just no idea what the aFe's micron rating is as they don't publish it.
@@mutantryeff I know nothing about diesel engines as I never had one or worked on one. Have you ever tried a Fleetguard? Offhand, I dont know what your filter size would be, but some of them have very good micron ratings. Your Donaldson has one of the best micron ratings out there so probably somewhat restrictive?
@@WhipCityWrencher I have used Fleetguard - both the standard and the extreme versions (don't remember what they call them). It gets even worse for me in the summer when we routinely have 100F+ temps. I run a straight 40W as 15W40 thins out too fast for me. I've tried 50W in the summer and that doesn't help much, so I stick with the 40W. A diesel is unique given its ability to operate at super low RPMs given the high torque.
