I'd definitely prefer the waving of the foot method. Seems a lot more reliable than having to hope that your voice assistant can hear you in your pocket and transfer the command to open the tailgate over multiple servers without having problems or complaining about the internet connection (in a underground parking garage as an example)

My car has a boot/trunk opener. Its called my hand. Its low maintainance. Does not require electronics so totally reliable. Although using it to throw chocolets into my open gob improves efficiancy.
I've been driving since before you were born, hot rodder in my youth, my Tesla is the best car I've ever owned. It gets a free software update every 4-5 weeks without fail and it keeps getting better with new functionality or cosmetic changes, some are minor bug fixes but most add something. Does your car get better as time passes, my Tesla does.
In that case my microwave performs better than any car I ever owned and is a joy to drive. Must suck if you loose to a microwave at every trafficlight. 😂
