You should watch this show, as I was making this video I ended up removing over 20 minutes of audio because after rewatching all the episodes for a second time and thinking about it, I no longer held those opinions. I enjoyed this show and I have to say that the work that went into it is amazing. Now my opinions from the video still stand I’m just being real with you on that, but I look forward to season 2 and I am hopeful for what is to come.

About this video: we talk about the Fallout TV show by kinda reviewing it to see what was good about the Fallout show and what was bad about it. I also talk about what I was mixed on, and what I think could have been better. This is not really a Fallout TV show review, more of a thoughts on the Fallout TV show type of video, by the way, the VFX for the show was amazing, and the soundtrack was awesome. but the Fallout TV Show does get New Vegas Lore Wrong, Especially Mr. House, they messed up Mr. House the Fallout Show, they mess up a bunch of New Vegas lore, and New Vegas is my favorite game so it really did make me mad. @@ByrgenworthGraduate Shady Sands was destroyed when Lucy's mom died...which was in 2277, according to the show. The chalkboard also seems pretty clear. Todd Howard is pulling things out of his rear to try to cover up this glaring error.
Them nuking Shady Sands tells me everything I need to know how they care about the lore.

Broke my golden rule of plot twists: A plot twist isn't good because you didn't see it coming. It's good because you *should have*. If you telegraph the twist too much ahead of time--or don't telegraph it at all, and it comes out of nowhere--it's gonna suck. Also lol Bethesda is going to legit die mad about the fact that so many people's favorite Fallout game is the one Bethesda didn't make.
I think that ol’Todd is EXTREMELY angry that new Vegas is so beloved over his starfield and fallout 4.
That's why I hated franchises like FNAF that pretends to have "deep lore" even though they literally just retcon each other in future games for shock value.

I don't know what to say about Starfield. I actually expected it to be good, because it's a new IP. The first game in a potential new series needs to be good, to pull people in. Then they released it, and it's barely a game?
Amazon is definitely paying these sites for good reviews, they're pretty much all the same script. They done the same thing for rings of power.

If they invested 150mil in tv show, they can invest easily 1.5mil in shiIIs and bots....
That and RT no longer allows User or Critic reviews to be individually read, unless there's VERY specific circumstances under which they can be seen.
So, the high scores have to be astroturfing. If they're not, then the public tolerance for bad media is loosening quite a bit.
I knew that slowly over time the honeymoon phase would end and people would realize the show is terrible and start criticizing it just like what happened to F4 and there are a lot of comments in this section denying that lol

Bethesda is going to end up getting axed and all their IP's will be in limbo until Microsoft finally dies.
All the good fallout games weren't made by bethesda so tod is determined to destroy them (the new vegas hint in the episode 8 disaster anyone?) There is only so much retconing they can do before it's no longer fallout. It ended with 76.
I like the show but it feels very off to me. These are the main things that stuck out to me about the world. I would give it like a 6/10
Imo, a lot of the jokes are very out of place and dont land. (they feel more like a borderlands game)
A human life in that show feels like it literally has no value. To like an unbelievable extent.
As was said in the video, pain is basically not a concept in the show.
People that you would expect to have a more visceral reaction to gore, basically have none. (lucy)

I didn't get into fallout 1 or 2, Fallout 3 is my favorite game in the series, I rushed through NV because It bored me to death and I liked Fallout 4 but didn't finish it. Guess what? I quit after episode 2 of this show...

Only this show isnt made for the fans at all. its another example of a franchise being bastardized, just like Netflix' Witcher series and Halo.
Netflix should have made something great if they had given the showrunner's role to someone that cared, like Henry Cavil. Instead they gave it to an liar named Lauren Hissrich. It came out later that the other writers straight up hated the games and books and wanted to tell their story. You dont do that with a preestablished IP unless your outright doing it out of spite.
Lauren said, and i quote: it'll be a one for one adaptation, just like the books, there's so much there it would be criminal not to try.
And when they got called out for making sh*t up that wasnt in the books, they used paid accounts to call fans racist, toxic, and other "names". Because they are the types that cant take responsibility for screwing up. Its always "EVERYONE" else thats the problem.
And this " Fallout" show is more of that. Its not faithful to the games at all. The only way things get fixed is when Fans finally smarten up and take over these productions themselves and respect what came before.

Fallout 1 and 2 got even worse off than new vegas by the show, the Whole vaults 31, 32, 33 being in LA create a massive plot hole in Fallout 1, and if Shady Sands is in LA then the story Fallout 1 is just impossible because vault 4 I assume is close to shady sands and it is another plot hole in fallout 1.

It's not disappointing for me, I didn't expect much in the first place. Games like Fallout cannot be televised without being cringe. I mean I can accept ghouls in game universe but not on tv....
Marvel-generation like it because they are trained to accept any bs without question.

The problem is that the show isn't made for the fans, it's made for people like my father (someone who has heard of the Fallout IP, but never played any of the games). So to them, yes, this seems like a "good show" that represents Fallout, when it's far from true. While I do agree that the props and and set pieces looked nice, the story was very lackluster and pathetic, especially when we can look back and see how deep and complex the plot was in all the old Fallout games. Just because the show had nice set pieces or good props, doesn't make it a good show. The story sucked and retconned so many events/plots the Fallout games have been building for decades. Now, these same people who haven't played the games (except maybe Fo4), are now defending the show and acting like they've been long time fans of the series.
To sum up the show, the NCR, House, and the Legion have essentially been wiped off the map, replaced by the Brotherhood of Steel, the Enclave, and Vault-Tec, who are now the major factions of the setting. A single season of Bethesda's/Amazon's "fallout" have undone everything that Fallout 1, 2, and New Vegas had built.
What do you mean by "good show"? I tried to watch it, looking at it as any show and not some game-based show, and you know what? It still sucks, it's shallow, boring and in my unpopular opinion unnecessarily perverted.
I feel like the show was made specifically for the fans, but only those who worked on the set to make it look like from Fallout, really cared about it, but those who wrote the script didn't and they thought that we, the fans, would eat it anyway.
Y’all are just winy babies that can’t handle when something has changed in the show. Also just because they left a few factions like ceasers legion out doesn’t mean that it won’t show up in future seasons. It was an incredibly good show honestly everything you look for a good show. But it appears you fallout nerds that spent half your lives playing this franchise can’t handle 1 single change in anything.

@@Austinb0614 The problem is that Bethesda does not change anything in Fallout they just keep it the same really. Lore and Worldbuilding wise, no development, and vague bs about the previous games, and reusing the Same things that make no sense being there: Super Mutants(ruined FEV by being the only thing expect the master (as far as I know) that FEV makes instead of cool, and interesting ideas with it) just making them dumb walmart brand orcs that lose what made them cool to begin with, Deathclaws are everywhere because bs and are weak leveled wimps in Bethesda Fallout who are just there because Fallout 1 & 2 have them so we must(same goes for Rad scorps, Brahmin, and other west coast wildlife), BOS just being a major faction everywhere because POWER ARMOR IS COOL and just milking them to the point where if they are never in another piece of Fallout story, game, or whatever I would feel that would be better than them being in every Fallout game, story, show or whatever because they are just been done to death. The Enclave being Everywhere to be less complex than cartoon villains so the BOS are not the worse faction morally, and they do not curb stomp, or lose to better tactics, numbers or be morally worse. The Enclave just exist to be the Bad guys so the BOS can stop them and not deal with the fact the BOS are Techno Facist hypocritical Cultists holding everyone back by robbing people of tech and are glorified thugs in power armor. Also people forgetting that roofs to work do not have holes and patch it up or cover the hole, forgetting how to clean, organize and make a better life for themselves. Or how raider gangs would work in Real life, raiders in Bethesda fallout are more akin to Borderlands bandits, than real life bandit gangs, highwayman, nomadic raiders, and marauders.
Why are so many people hating? It's like you haven't even watched the full video...

I have never played Fallout and didn't enjoy the show because the characters and dialogues were flat, and the plot progression relied on convenience and had a lot of holes. I absolutely loved the Last of Us, so game adaptations are not the problem here.
I mean game adaptations are absolutely the problem with how difficult they are to do right. The last of use show only works because the game was practically a show to begin with

I had completely checked out of the "Hollywood is woke and/or dying and they're killing all the franchises and IPs I loved on their way out" space online cause it had felt like it was getting repetitive and nothing new was being said anymore, plus it seemed more and more people were catching on and not liking or watching the new crap being put out anyway, so why keep engaging with the content creators who focus on how bad that content has gotten? Then along came this god awful Fallout show and suddenly all my friends and a bunch of people online are praising it as a faithful adaptation to the games and saying it's canon while also telling me to ignore all the inconsistencies and changes to the lore and canon of the games. Suddenly I find myself once again looking online to see what other people are saying about the show cause surely I can't be the only one who thinks it's terrible.
I'm glad I'm not. Even if it was trying to do it's own thing separate from the games and be it's own version of a Fallout world, it's a crappy show with terrible writing and tons of plot holes and inconsistencies on top of not being visually entertaining enough to forgive said plot holes and inconsistencies. I also don't know why anyone would think they can point to Todd "16 times the detail" "it just works" Howard as a source for anything when he's the internet's most mocked and notorious liar. He lies about every single one of his games, but not the show? Ok, you buy that if you want to. I will not buy that any more than I'd buy a canvas bag from Todd. He'd probably send me a nylon one instead and then argue with me about why that was ok to do.

I already question what the heck happened to Maxson since in 3 of the endings you destroy the prydwen. But according to the year the show takes place in elder maxson would just be 40.

They establish in the first, episode I’m pretty sure, that the brotherhood came from the commonwealth they weren’t in California

@@sirpicklepepperkills8105well yeah but the California division was wiped out in fallout 2 and the Mojave division was pretty much wiped out in new Vegas so they shouldn’t really have any presence in the west. Hence why the east coast division went there

But really, great video. This is actual constructive criticism. I personally love the show, but I do agree with most of what you have to say.
I actually think you hit the nail on the head man, although I actually liked the show I don't think it's amazing or a masterpiece in any way.
And the most insulting part for me was seeing those prospectors wearing the NCR veterans ranger armor and how bad it looked.

I think my biggest issues with the show are how they treated the NCR, and the Brotherhood. The Brotherhood is just a joke, and the NCR was deleted. Bethesda really doesn't like things they didn't make themselves. Look out New Vegas. Otherwise it wasn't a bad watch. Just those two bits I didn't like the most.
NCR is still very much there, and the brotherhood they aren’t as power as they are in 3 because they are currently transitioning in California, but yeah the NCR is the biggest point in the movie
The NCR wasnt deleted (like at all), yeah Shady Sands got destroyed, but Shady Sands also only had 34k people, and NCR has like 700k (I think)
@@devil1ndisguise_ Maximus says to Lucy that they failed when Shady Sands went up, after she says it was supposed to be the vaults that were to re-make the US. Implying that the Brotherhood doesn't see the NCR as intact anymore. Which would be odd, as in New Vegas they very much feared them. So now all you have are potential fragments, or idealists, ripe for remaking in Bethesda's image. But by the sounds of it, the NCR in its original form is gone. And the Brotherhood is just a joke. Like raiders cosplaying as the Brotherhood. They were decently established in Nevada, and did adhere to their more foundational principles.

The worst writing in the show was definitely the BOS. But for god sake the cyclopes overseer has got to be some of the worst case of lore breaking I've seen in a while. I know the vaults are messed up but I think if they just brain stormed for a few extra minutes they could have come up with something better.

Lucy just reminds me of a low-level charisma build she is always trying to talk her way into situations and always fails. Failing peace talk with the Goul, failing romance with maximums, failing to convince vault 33 to help her search for her dad, failing to save the semi feral Goul. Ive seen a lot of reviewers criticize this aspect of lucy as a lack of character development, that is she should learn from her mistakes and be less trusting or more aggressive, but this was the most relatable thing for me. Failing a charisma check, everything goes to shit, you lose an advantage, or an awkward moment occurs. I hope next season Lucy dumps some points into charisma and can succeeded some checks :)
Making this show in the perspective of a player is unnecessary meta. The show is 100% aimed towards millennials and it's written in a self-aware, meta, and forced humor style BS. I don't need a character mentioning "sidequests" to me when watching the show - it's not funny, we know why sidequests are in games and it's no exclusive to Fallout. It's like making a Zelda show and having an entire episode of Link running around chasing chickens. It's not creative nor is it clever.
Fallout, at it's core, is a post post apocalyptic tale with pulpy science fiction aesthetics following a lone wanderer through the rubble and attempted rebuild of society. Lone wanderer being key there - a good portion of Fallout games have you wandering alone through the wastelands. It's a choice of the player to have a companion. The Fallout games have always had the world and it's atmosphere be the secondary character to the lone wanderer - it has never needed zanny one liners every other moment so they can meet some bad contract obligation they gave to their highest paid actor.
It just shows how devoid of creativity writers are right now and how accepting audiences are of mediocrity and hijackings. I don't even care too much about inconsistency of lore or retcons - Fallouts lore is already a bit messy and even New Vegas itself is a bit iffy in places. I care if it feels like Fallout rather than a show masquerading as Fallout. If you guys want something that resembles Fallout, watch A Boy and His Dog. Not only is it more like Fallout, it actually inspired Fallout.
Right, they took the superficial elements of the games, and made them into the entire show; the 1950's aesthetic and music, some gameplay mechanics, the references, the occasional humor or gore, etc. It's like loving a cake someone makes, and you "recreate it" by opening a can of frosting and eating it by the spoonfull, and saying it's basically the same. No. So far, it seems like people who know nothing about the games, and people who know the games backwards and forwards, are critical, while the fans are folks who have played a few of the games, somewhat, and vaguely recognize stuff so they point and clap.

Watched your entire review and although you had some crtiques for most of the vid, i wasn't seeing the "disappointment" ... but by the time i got towards the end i understood better the reasoning for the title of your review. I think you offered some fair input on why it frustrated you and your vid will give me things to look out for in how they approach season 2.

As someone who played the games too, the show was pretty good.
"Forget the past. Kill it if you have to." Forget all these hater bots, you were spot on with yer analysis (other than the oopsie of course). This was Bethesda's way to kill the games they didn't make and are constantly compared to without pulling the trigger themselves - plausible deniability anyone?

They really didn't need 3 different stories in the first season. Just the ghoul and the vault dweller would have been fine. Heck even if it was just the ghoul and they played the whole season as a western i would of liked it more. The brotherhood of steel in this was dog shit.

When I saw the first Trailer and I saw Lucy, I thought this will be Woke Trash.
And Lucy Really Shines. Her Arc and the Stuff that Happens.
Maximus is tooo PASSIV. HE IS not there. He does not Move stuff.
HE IS LIMP. And that is why his Storyline is just....a Waste. So Underused and Mist Opportunity. Don't they know. ... Writing Characters all must Move the Common Theme from different Perspectives. Has the ART of STORYWRITING gone Lost in the Winds of ARAKIS?
What ever they did with The MAXIMUS Character (ARC)... WAS WRONG.
Cause it is boring and goes nowhere.
LUCY has a strong URGE...and is Fleshed out Cool.
Walt unfolds his storyline...and is driven.
Norm starts limp and becomes a Shark... I loved every scene with him after a While.

Although this is a good video game adaptation and good entertaiment, this is abysmal for Classic Fallout.
- Fallout was about the passage of time and the taming of the wasteland, but human nature (war) staying the same. Civilization rising from the ashes of the old world, this series just deleted no only the main faction from Fallout lore but all the progress just to make California like any other post-apocalypse, Bethesda really prefers the empty and lawless wasteland, there is no progress. (It does not help that the show is a Frankenstein of ideas from old Fallout games, so it felt extra lazy for me but this point is entirely personal).
- Fallout was a grimdark universe with pockets of dumb comedy, in recent years Bethesda flipped it for more of a comedy with pockets of darkness, and the show took it to the extreme.
- Many original fans are pissed because the only corner of Fallout that still had the original mindset was California, and that is gone now. I would have loved the series if they set in anywhere else and kept the old lore having the two sides to the same universe, but they went right after the jugular of Classic Fallout and it stings.
I feel great that people are liking the show and discovering Fallout, but for a veteran like me, I feel like this series is not for me anymore...

I think you can only enjoy this show if you don't think too much about what's happening on screen and I certainly enjoyed it, but the writing is simply lazy and the plot holes are ridiculous. So far I've really liked it...not a whole lot to gripe about especially for a video game adaptation
I thought it was pretty good for tv adaptation of a game TBH.
Yeah but it is pretty disappointing in a lot of ways. I think most people who are upset about the problems are upset because its a great show and it could be so much better.
I agree show was fine for what they wanted it to be, had humour, gore, structure and flavour of the Bethesda Fall out games.
I will be back for season 2, compared to the Halo tv show this is 10/10.

@@X862go Yeah, what's wrong with getting more people into Fallout? It's not even like they turned it into Marvel slop, they left hints and easter eggs for the die-hard Fallout fans and gave it a solid story (better than Fallout 4's story I might add) people still aren't happy, I don't get it...

Dunno, why you didnt like it tbh. My fav is Fo2 (and NV obviously) and I liked the show. I liked how the vault dweller is a do gooder cluesless almost noob player character, BoS hyprocritical, and my fav was the ghoul with his deep story. Pls tell me how to do this better and not be too nerdy (was a fan service all around anyway) to speak to audiences outside of the playerbase? CGI was good, not great, what was great was the characters. I liked each of their journey and development.
I dont know what you didnt like about the show, my fav was also the vault storyline as well as the ghoul. Max was insteresting, I think season 2 come, Maximus will have a way more intricate story. Season 2 will bring alot more moral conandrums.. He wanted to join the vault, champion of the BoS now, Things will only go side ways from here on. What not to like?
Haven't watched the show, but from what I've heard of it, including from this video, it seems like a very Bethesda version of Fallout show. As you said, they have a hard on for the Brotherhood of Steel. I kinda get it as they have big guns & power armour, but in no way are they the "good guys" of the Fallout universe, despite what Todd "It just works" Howard might think.

This is essentially how I feel about fallout new vegas, and that makes everyone rage. Like compared to the wasteland series, fallout's predecessor, New Vegas ain't shit. Just because everything that actually separates it from fallout 3, was ripped off from wasteland. We're talking everything from the dust bowl aesthetic, all the way down to dusters over combat armor for the rangers. Everything was literally ripped off from wasteland. So to me New Vegas is a lazy. If you're going to beg Todd coward to actually give you rights to do anything with his games, make something new..... Not a rehashing of wasteland, an actual better game 😅

I've had Fallout since 1999 and I've played everything but Tactics and Brotherhood of Steel. I've played all the mainline series and I love New Vegas. This show does not hurt canon and it was fucking great IMO. People don't seem to understand that a line pointing from 2277 means that time passed DURING THE ARROW.... Meaning huge clouds could have happened DURING New Vegas or even 2 weeks after New Vegas....
man i dont even know why people consider it a plot hole, yeah shady sand's was the NCR capital but it wasn't the only wasteland city under NCR control, this "plot hole" is the equivalent of Washington DC being the only city in the US to be nuked but somehow that nuke took out the entirety of the US military
@@sirringus Exactly, hell it even says "First Capital of the NCR" on the billboard that Lucy and Max are standing at. Which implies that there's ANOTHER capital now. Maybe they started moving their government facilities to other towns cos Shady Sands was starting to get rough anyways.

It’s definitely very Bethesda Fallout take away the Fallout paint and this series is full of plot holes and the characters have strong plot armor. I have played Fallout 3, Fallout 4 New Vegas and Fallout 76. I haven’t played Fallout 1 or Fallout 2.

So many moments had me rolling my eyes. Eventually, the show made so many errors I couldn't watch anymore. Only made it halfway through episode 4 before I couldn't take it anymore.
I'm actually surprised how much praise this is getting... because it definitely doesn't deserve it.

It's refreshing to see someone who likes all the games at least a bit and still has a logical, critical opinion.
There are two bad sides of Fallout show opinions.
The first one is people (mostly just synthetic man) screaming "woke" over and over again, hating it without actually trying to analyse what's wrong with it.
The second are the blind fanboys, they see some cool reference or the pip-boy making the good karma sound effect and they go "HOLY S**T, THEY REFERENCED THAT" "WOW THIS REALLY SEEMS LIKE A "WILD WASTELAND" MOMENT" "LMAO, MAXIMUS AND LUCY HAVE LIKE 1 CHARISMA". It's so f**king obnoxious it makes me want to kill myself. It isn't based on any good qualities of this show, it's just blind fanboying.
These two polar opposites make it seem like there's no inbetween of being critical of the show for its faults and praising it for its wins.

the series is based off the games which is what makes it so good. when you step on a land mine and cripple a limb your guy will just say "urgh" then take a stimpak and all is well. it would've been more annoying to have some traumatising scene when they cut her finger off. its part of what the show is.
we have to wait for season 2 to see more, but most of the complaints are coming from the people who love new vegas and hate every other fallout game. new vegas didn't create the fallout universe they were hired to make one of the games and did a good job with it, but that is not the centre of the fallout universe like the hardcore new vegas fans like to think.
it says the fall of shady sands in 77 and the nuke comes after that, they will obviously go into that more because the final episode ends with loads of NCR and vegas cliffhangers.
i do agree with that turret though, those things dont miss in the games and to see it unload so much ammo and hit everything except what its aiming at did annoy me at the time

People I've seen review it who know nothing about Fallout seem to hate it. They don't understand what's going on. Like, the Enclave, what is that? They don't know. The show assumes you're going to have Fallout knowledge while also constantly contradicting that knowledge, which is basically the same thing they did with Rings of Power--confuse people with no Tolkien knowledge, but also constantly contradict alot of the lore.
