You missed out on picking up that Cuman's spurs. Spurs increase your horseriding stats. Gold is the best, followed by silver, and then knight's. Spurs are also just a good thing to loot for selling to merchants- they don't weigh much and have good value. Make sure you check out what weapons enemies were using after you kill them. At this point in the game, there's a good chance their weapon is better than yours.
