Probably the most surprising film of the last 5 years for me. I expected nothing or even worse I was absolutely convinced it would be bad and it was hands down one of the best movies in recent memory.
That fight between Guy and Dude came about right as Disney purchased Fox and they got permission to do what they wanted. Also the Chris Evans cameo took him about 10 minutes to do while he was in the area working on something else.
Late to the party, but when I saw this in the theatre and he said, "What the shit?!" at least a dozen people shouted out, "Language!" over the laughter.
There were a LOT of great cameos in this movie, including some that were not as obvious At the beginning of the movie, the hooded-masked character Molotov Girl meets the alley was Hugh Jackman. John Krasinski was the Silhouetted Gamer being interviewed about playing the Free Guy game. Tina Fey was the mom vacuuming in the boy's room. And Dwayne Johnson voiced one of the bank robbers.
You cannot believe how funny this movie was to watch in the theatres....the whole theatre erupted when Cap's shield and Chris Evans showed up and i haven't laughed more than at Dude's every line...i freaking love this movie
@@GreenFalcon926 omfg I know. My mom and I started watching it during quarantine in 2020, and we both loved the characters from the start, so this finale was incredibly disappointing. The movie was partly delayed because Fox was being purchased by Disney than Covid hit. The good things that came out of the delay was the film was able to use Marvel & Star Wars references.
Ryan Reynolds is great! If you think really hard he tends to play the same character in everything he does, but it never gets old and never actually feels like the same character as you are watching. Probably because the movies are usually so different even though the character isn’t. Such a fun actor to watch.
It really helps that it isn't a shtick or something. It's just genuinely him. That honesty and going all in sells it. It's how Channing Tatum gets away with playing the role he did in this. They both commit completely to it and make it real.
I go to see Ryan Reynolds perform a character, not to see a character played by Ryan Reynolds. It's like Robin Williams, he always played the same character to the point many people don't know the character, just "That Robin Williams character", because his style became so closely identified with him. And that was a good thing.
@@dylancole1910 They announced it last summer, so they are still in the writing phase. I would speculate it will hit cinemas early in 2025, because Ryan has such a tight schedule. Hopefully it will be sooner
Love Jodie Comer, she is just the best actress of our generation.. you should see Killing Eve or whatever she is on… You will see her s lot from now on
Once you start Killing Eve you become obsessed… Ryan Reynolds become obsessed so he hired her for Free Guy. Ridley Scott become obsessed so he hired her for The Last Duel… 😂 and on and on
I watched one yesterday with Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson called "The Hitman's Bodyguard". I'm pretty sure it's a newer film. Salma Hayek is hilarious in it.
Was Salma Hayek the one that kept arguing with Sam L. Jackson? Because I thought that was Florence Pugh, you know, Black Widow’s sister in the “Black Widow” movie. Guys in the reaction video, don’t read this.

Went to see this in the theater about 5 weeks after it released, and it was still nearly full. I was expecting some dumb GTA-style fun only as the trailers did quite well to hide the IP theft story, but this went high above my expectations. It was truly entertaining and had the whole theater laughing hard.
Ryan had the Trifecta with his last 3 movies. Red Notice, Adam Project and Free Guy. An absolute machine. Can't wait till DP 3 comes out and you guys do a vid on it. Take care and thanks!
I saw this movie for free on a flight awhile ago and absolutely LOVED it!! I don't game at all so I didn't even get all the references (or recognize any of the streamers), but it was just such a good movie that just like Steven, I watched it with a HUGE smile on my face. @@clarkbarrett6274 its always best experience to see it on big screen in theaters, i watched this at home via projector connected on my pc and could watch it on my ceiling from wall to wall off the room.
You should watch some of the behind the scenes videos. Reynolds found out Evans was in town and called him. He talked Evans into the cameo. They had a film crew drive across town and it took about 5 minutes to get the shot. He contacted Disney and asked them if he could borrow from the MCU and Star Wars.
My experience with this movie was the same as most everyone commenting here: I knew next to nothing about it, and it is one of the best and most hilarious movies I've ever seen!!! Absolute genius. The Chris Evans cameo was pure gold. LOVED your reactions!!
The song that's playing when Guy puts the sunglasses on DUDE is, I think it's named anyway, Believe it or Not, from a TV show from the early 80s called The Greatest American Hero. It was a long time ago but I think aliens gave him a special suit to fight crime or something. It was funny. The suit gave him the ability to fly but he couldn't get the hang of it and kept crashing into things. And he couldn't land, so the mayhem continued. Free guy reminds me a lot of a little skit from Viva la dirt league 'Bealin's route', when the npc gets recruited by player and is forced off his path leading to an epic and hilarious adventure. NPC can be pretty overpowered, and bealin and his fishing rod (being the town fisherman) are unstoppable, that rod is like +4 vorpal sword or some thing. Love it, and this movie is so fun workin on that same idea.
sooooo the guy in the mask at the beginning who gave her the map was voiced by Hugh Jackman, and the robber that Reynolds takes the glasses from is Dwayne Johnson.
This movie is honestly tied with Ready Player One as the best video game movie ever made. I really loved how they used REAL LIFE game streamers as not just a cheap ploy but an actual narrative device. And Taika Waititi is perfect as the living embodiment of Ubisoft, Activision, Blizzard and EA Games.
I'd say Ready Player One is awful in comparison. It's not a good movie and it pales in comparison to the book. (Which isn't exactly great literature either) Free Guy is stunning and pulls the heartstrings, while saying a lot about the human condition.
The music that played when Millie kissed Guy to wake him up and again at the end of the movie is from a short Disney film called Paperman. And if you haven't seen it, you absolutely should.
I just watched this an hour ago and I was so surprised! I believe that Ryan was the only one who could pull off a gaming movie without it being cheesy. I love that they implemented so many gaming things like lag, players just jumping for no reason, PORTAL!, and of course, tea bagging. :D Great reaction, y'all! ♥
This instantly became one of my favorite movies. And I have been saying "don't have a good day. Have a great day" ever since. So hearing Nikki say she was going to start saying it in the beginning had me laughing
I hope Channing Tatum gets to make his Gambit movie he seems so passionate about the Gambit character and he loves the X-MEN world hopefully he shows up in Deadpool 3 and maybe gets his own movie
I put this movie a hair...just a sliver below Ready Player 1, this movie was such a surprise!! I literally watched it 5 times in theaters!!! I just kept taking new people who honestly had no interest in it but they all came out LOVING it!! There were soooo many more cameos in this movie than you realize, from the Rock as the voice of the bank robber to Hugh Jackman as the guy that sold her the clip in the alleyway...lol.
This movie was such a delightful surprise, I went to see it in the cinema, not having high expectations other than liking the cast, but it was such a blast to watch! Also all the cameos are so fun!
This movie has a special place in my world. The day I went to see it I was in a depressive cycle of my bipolar disorder. I simply went to see the movie because it looked like it was goofy and kind of mindless and it would give me something to just sit and watch and vegetate and sit out the world for a couple hours. Now humor is not something you use to pull yourself out of a clinical depression. It just doesn't work like that. (Make a note: Don't try to use humor to "cheer up" someone with depression. It may even make things worse.) But this movie, while certainly hilarious, also engaged my thinking circuits a bit. That combination distracted me enough to forget about feeling horrid. By the time the Chris Evans cameo happened, I actually laughed. The end result was that I walked out of the movie actually feeling a little better. Of course I wasn't all better but it felt kind of like I'd been carrying 300 lbs on top of me and now it was only 150 lbs. That's practically a fucking miracle. So yeah, I really loved "Free Guy". I'm not planning to prescribe it as an actual treatment for depression though.
Funny thing, nobody recognizes the cameos of The Rock, Hugh Jackman, and Tina Fey. Also, Jodie Comer sang the Mariah Carey song at the end when Guy ran across the bridge.
"Stardust" is an awesome movie. A star falls to Earth. a lovesick young man sets out to collect it for the spoiled girl he fancies. Robert DeNiro as the Captain of a flying ship that fishes for lightning. Michelle Pfeiffer as an Evil Witch. Action. Comedy. Romance. Magic. "Inkheart" with Brendan Frasier from "The Mummy" is terrific. whatever he reads from any book becomes real. he reads from the wrong book. summoning villains from an awesome story.
Only Ryan Reynolds could do a movie with a Deadpool poster in the background, hold Cap's shield, _and_ use a lightsaber. Just such a fun movie from start to finish.

Seeing "Free Guy" on the big screen was one of the most fun experiences of last year. Belly laughs. Euphoria. An oasis of positivity to make up for a very painful stretch of time. The barista was my favorite character (the whole cappuccino arc was confusing at first but then adorable), while Dude is a close 2nd for how mythically dumb he is. "I can bench-press a sentence!"
You won't get electrocuted plowing an axe into something, unless there's enough power running through it to arc across a 2-foot gap. Which, no server is going to be running that much juice. Wood isn't a conductor. It's not an especially great insulator, but with a handle that long, you're not really in any danger unless you're slamming it into a substation's lines or something like that.

"He's, 'in the computer!'" Bonus points for the Zoolander reference.
Guy in the alley that she shoots at beginning was actually Hugh Jack an! 😜😂😎🇬🇧 Such a great movie great reaction. Remind me not to meet nikki in GTA,! 😜LOL
i would love to meet nikki in GTA 5 and duke it out with her.
This movie was so fun to watch in theatres
i’ve watched free guy before and almost cried at the end where they kiss
first UA-cam comment I've EVER made but felt the need to now. LOVE you guys, every video is awesome to watch you guys and love that i finally see someone on here that shares interests and reactions. This movie in particular worked, IMO, because of (well yeah, Ryan Reynolds lol) but because whoever wrote it gets it when it comes to gamers.
and just as a side note Nikki, "aww bitch" has entered common use in my house now, you're adorable lol. and i will say it again, you guys are awesome. thank you for the videos.
I didnt even want to see this movie when it came out coz the trailer looked meh but I did watch it and now its one of my faves, absolutely love this film
I rented this on a whim - never expected it to be so fun, funny, and have so much heart.
bought blu ray off it, also downloaded torrent file off it so i can watch it on tabled at work.
This movie is full of cameos. Even the masked characters have cameo VAs with the guy she gets the intel from before guy breaks out being voiced by hugh jackman and the bank robber guy got the glasses from being the rock
The Dude was just some bodybuilder they found that looked close enough to Ryan... The Dude is 6'7 315lbs saw it in a behind the scene for the movie. An that's actually Jodie singing "Fantasy" at the end.
Yeah I loved this movie when seing it in theaters . I loved how dudes undergarments that were sticking out his pants saying “game over” 😂😂
this is definitely one of my favorite movies. I watch this movie a lot they really makes me laugh
Was on a plane and had nothing interesting to watch. Randomly put this one cuz I like Ryan Reynolds and oh man it made my flight awesome! Loved it!
