Power house of a drummer. He hit so hard and yet had the speed and precision to keep everything lined up perfectly. I've watched a good amount of Pantera live shows and i haven't heard him make a mistake once.

@@jimmyfreeman5714Not really, they were always into hard rock/glam/metal. Their dad was a country music producer so I'm sure they were exposed to it...and could do country rock with the best of them if they wanted to.

His drumming is a voice, that future drummers won't be able to replicate, and shouldn't. Every musician has a signature sound they should be proud of.

@@rorrycalhoun836 the singer from Skynyrd is sitting in on vocals. Dime is jamming out some freebird! Cliff Burton on bass. I bet Dime could give that solo a whole new meaning. I don’t think these guys were really into heavier stuff before Phil introduced them to stuff like Slayer. Phil said the heaviest band they liked was Metallica when he joined. Dime is jamming out trading licks with Van Halen, Randy Rhodes and Ace- some of his faves. Nm Ace is alive lol 😂

Back in the 90s I remember saying to people in my band , I've been listening to this kind of thrash / funk kind of band , the album was cfh, I converted the band into pantera fans .
Then vulgar came out and was harder and heavier we loved it .
When far beyond driven came out it sealed pantera as the one and only thrash ,groove ,metal band that recorded and released harder ,faster ,heavier metal than all the other bands around them , at the time most of the major thrash bands were cutting their hair ,wearing skater clothes ,and trying to fit in with the emerging nu metal scene .
Pantera kept thrash alive in the late 90s early 2000s .

Not the fastest, not the most technical in modern Metal BUT in my opinion the last one with such an unique sound and style that is heart in a few seconds. Something that Mcbrain, Paice, Ulrich got and millions of modern drummers and their pro tooled Records havent got: Individuality
...and remember: Most great Rock drummers came out of jazz an blues and created so their "weird" grooveness in Rock. Mitchel, Baker,....Vinni comes from southern ans marching styles to metal and so he seems 'bounce' and breath that Heavy stuff.
His signature snares arent so "sharp" and "cutty", they fit also warmth and bottom.
