Same! I went last year and couldn't believe my dream came true to finally see Pantera and Phil live! I thought I would never be able to experience it, thus it makes me even happier. After all, Pantera is my absolute favourite metal band! Starting a 4:54 is exactly what my comment was going to be, it was never PHILS band, he was a hired gun. He has no right to even pay tribute because he broke up the band. No one else but him, go back to the story, and everyone in the Pantera CAMP that was left said, he wouldn't answer the phone, he just ignored everyone, did another Down and Superjoint record, but made no time for them. And Phil also stated "Man I'D Kill those guys, and they need a severe beating". Drugs or not drugs (drugs of course) he said it, and what happened was because of him. He didn't pull the trigger, but he could have prevented it from being pulled, IF he would have done his job. We all know this. I lost all respect for Phil 20 years ago, and I intend for it to stay that way. He's doing it for money, nothing more nothing less. Thank You.

    • @JESSEALLEN77
      @JESSEALLEN77 Рік тому +6

I'm glad you brought this point up. Dime and Vinnie were a HUGE part of the band, but they weren't the ONLY part of the band. They all contributed to the music, this is especially true for Rex. I read his book (which every true Pantera fan should read) and Rex was there from the very beginning, before Pantera was even a thing yet. He even lived with the Abbotts for a while growing up and very much was considered a part of the family. Sure, they did go through a few different singers before Phil, but Rex was there through all of it (even those awkward "glam" years that they tried to completely bury).
Yes, the core of the songs did come from what Dime and Vinnie would come up with while they were jamming, and Pantera never would have happened without them, but then Phil and Rex would fill in the rest. I think Phil wrote most of the lyrics and came up with most of the vocal melodies too. And regardless of that, it was definitely that pure attitude and aggression that Phil had that helped Pantera become THE Pantera we all know and love. If it wasn't for him, they might still be an obscure, 80s style rock band in Texas. Or Dime would be playing guitar for Megadeth (or would have until Dave Mustain kicked him out like he did with all the other Megadeth guitarists LOL).
Rex and Phil have both went on to do other things, but the Pantera stuff they created will never leave them. As someone who has been in a few different bands myself there are definitely songs from my former bands I still love to play live , and some that I can't really do because those former member aren't around or able anymore. One band in particular I was "just the singer" (I usually either play guitar AND sing, or just play guitar). Even though all I really did was write the words, name nost of the songs, and sing them, if a couple guys who weren't in the band knew those songs I'd love to sing them for people again. It wouldn't be the same without all the original guys, but it would at least "something".

He (Rex) was frozen and Zakk had gone over to Rex with a full on hug. Bear hug.... Kinda choked me up a little more than I would want to admit. It's not all about us (the fans)....... But agree, not about the cash grab, he doesn't need the money. I feel it's genuine, but i also feel there are people better tailored to the job. I would have say Ola honestly. He's the gen that was inspired in that peak time of youth where that was your sht. And they're could be no doubt. But these are literal close friends, brothers, older brothers, of the band. And it also seems that a large swath of the fan base welcome it. But i do agree, Zakk is adequate for this gig, but there has to be many others well more "dimed" in on the content.
Signed never really a fan of this band or even Dime. Perfectly awesome, But there were people that we're" better" imo, "opinion" that should have dominated that space. But, hey man, at least someone did. I would say... not for me in particular, because i never swayed metal period, but Pantera definitely succeeded in keeping the vibe alive for the masses in a time in a time where the tides were changing.

I took both my boys ages 16&20 to see this show 5/18/24 here in Ohio. The wife was with us as well lol, she got to see the original members back in the day and she remarked that the current deal was nothing near what the original was but enjoyed the experience anyway. And I personally enjoyed seeing Phil and Rex together and Zach did a great job even though you could definitely tell it was Zach Wild trying to do Dime’s work lol perhaps he didn’t want to mimic Dime and only pay tribute that’s the way I felt as well about Charlie covering Vinnie’s work. But it was awesome to hear the music playing live and to have my boys with me as Pantera has been a big part of my life since summer 1993 🤔 32 years ago 🤦‍♂️ fug I wanna be a teenager again lol. It’s always depressing to remember that Dime and Vinnie are gone forever but it’s super cool that they’ll never be forgotten and live on for future generations as the music is being played again for all to see.

I went to see them at Darien Lake NY on 8/9/23. I've been a fan since 1992 and am still legitimately bummed about the loss of both Dime and Vince.
I totally get what they are saying about the difference between a reunion and a tribute. I have to say, the vibe at the show I was at was ALL tribute. Dime and Vince pictured on Charlie's bass drums, the video montage that played while Planet Caravan was performed on stage. It was incredibly moving. I saw or felt no sense of the continuance or moving on for Pantera as a band. Vince was right, there can never be a Pantera reunion. But what Phil, Rex, Charlie, and Zak are doing now is pure and heartfelt. The same feeling we fans have about the band and the Abbot brothers who are still sorely missed. I love what they are doing and will see them again if they keep touring and come through my area again next year.

I haven't got to see them on the celebration tour, & still hope I'll have a chance to do so. Even if they would do a run of these shoes every few years, you are bringing Pantera to fans new & old. And it is a celebration, not a reunion. I once heard Vinnie say in an interview that he had hundreds of hours of unreleased material. I agree with vinnie not being stoked but dimebag would have been, people also have to remember vinnie saw his brother shot to death on stage within the fallout of pantera. And from that moment showed permanent unwilling to forgive Phil and always somewhat indirectly blamed him for what happened to dime so why would he ever want to step on stage with no brother and two members in his eyes that ditched pantera to move on. No matter what side your on I think that’s an understandable stance. BUT I’m hindsight if vinnie could talk to us now I think he would be happy panteras legacy is living on and being passed to the next generation and generations to come :)

I really don’t see a problem with creating new music with this lineup. It doesn’t take away from the Abbott Bros’ legacy and contributions, but let’s not forget two of the band members are still alive. How many bands in history have continued to make new music with lineup changes when members (even lead singers) have passed away, quit or got fired, etc.? It’s happened with tons of bands in a variety of genres. I actually would to see new Pantera music brought to life with this line. It would be horrible to let a band and the potential to create new songs die when two of the members (including the lead vocalist) are still alive and kicking.
This entire “it’s a tribute thing” makes sense right now being that it’s their first run, but I think this lineup has proven that it has the chops and ability to BE the band and not just a representation of it. I’m fine with them being Pantera and fully support new music. I love the Abbott Bros and what they did, but there’s no reason they can’t respectfully be honored and remembered while letting Pantera and its surviving two members live on with a new lineup like countless other bands have in music history.

    • @cliffordclaussen2321

Phil and rex did not create Pantera. Dime and Vinnie created Pantera long before Phil and rex came along. I don't understand what you people don't understand about this. Sammy hagar and Michael Anthony are going out with Joe satriani Jason Bonham to pay tribute to van Halen. Now eddie and Alex aren't going to be there cause eddie is dead and Alex isn't going to do van Halen songs without eddie. So should sammy and Michael Anthony just go ahead and call there self van Halen since they were in the band? I don't think so, and that shit would never fly with a true van Halen fan. And sammy and Michael Anthony would never do some stupid shit like that. If those 4 guys want to make a album together they better find a different name cause it sure isn't Pantera.

Honestly, it wasn’t a bad experience. Being able to see these songs live again was a lot of fun.
BUT, it wasn’t the same experience (nor do I think that was the intention of these shows). For those that have seen the original lineup, there was just something about Dime hitting the high “squeal” and Vinnie just hammering the drums all night that when you left the show, you felt satisfied. I am not sure if that makes any sense, I would hope that it does to those of us that have seen both. lol.

I’m so tired of this nonsense. The Abotts (especially Vinnie) would not have approved this. If Phil hadn’t turned his back on the band, it could have continued. Let’s face it: it’s all about money for Phil and Rex. They have nowhere else to go. Stop pretending Pantera is still around: they ended in 2001.I won’t go see Halftera.

There is no Pantera without Dimebag simple as that. Dude was definitely the heart and sole of the band. Definitely the shepherd of his flock.

As someone who had the pleasure of seeing Pantera about a dozen times in the 90's, I can tell you that it will never be the same as it was. At first I had a n issue with this tour to the extent that they were going out as Pantera, considering Vinnie Pauls statements. I think the bigger question is the motivation of Rex and Phil. If they are truly, in their hearts, doing this as a tribute to Vinnie and Dime, then so be it, if it's about money, then that's a sad perversion of the name and legacy. They are coming to my city early next year and I have debated on going to see them for nostalgia sakes, but at almost 50 years old, I am not sure that I can handle the crowds. Cheers.

Everybody knows if Vinnie were still alive, this would NOT be happening.
I'm really happy for all the youngsters that would otherwise never get to see Pantera songs performed in a major concert setting like this, but please believe what you're seeing is Great Value Pantera.

I feel what there doing is a celebration. It's keeping the name alive, and paying homage to Dime and Vinnie.

I absolutely loved seeing them but kinda thought there could have been a better set list. I don’t know I was shocked by a lot of songs on the set;it’s and that weren’t. Wish they would have sang cemetery gates instead of it just playing with video. Video was great! It actually made me cry thinking about all the old memories I have and their music being a such a huge part of my life. Our chow chow is even named Pantera! Can’t think of any other 2 guys to help for a fact than Zakk and Charlie bring this tribute to the fans. It’s was so amazing! Really brought me to tears a few times. Loved it!

I saw them this summer. I enjoyed the show a lot. Never saw the original Pantera, so I cannot compare.
