@@tarantinoish Actually, this game was released almost two months before Metal Gear Solid and was based on a movie that was released two years prior, which itself was based on a TV show that initially aired 30 years earlier. In fact, the levels in this game play out like a stealth mission from the shows and movies, with the agents knocking people out, taking their identities, sabotaging equipment, faking documents, framing other people, and overall tricking the bad guys into doing what they want, so to say that Mission: Impossible isn't groundbreaking is a stretch. It makes me feel like I'm stepping into the shoes of an IMF agent. As Martin Landau, who played Rollin Hand on the TV show, stated in an interview, "Mission was a mind game. The ideal mission was getting in and getting out without anyone ever knowing we were there."
I had this game as a kid. I actually liked this game. I never had as many problems with it like Nerd did with shooting, or jumping. Some levels were harder than other, but I enjoyed it.
This game was frustrating in terms of controls and some missions. I did, however, really enjoy the Embassy Function mission. I felt it was really ahead of its time. I had that mission memorized and down to a science, which felt great for being a kid, haha. Beating the game and getting the pistol-sized rocket launcher was also pretty cool.
By today's standards it hasn't aged well but this was actually one of the most creative movie tie-in games from the era. They could have just made it into a generic FPS but they did make an effort to make it seem like a "spy" game. As a teenager playing it back in the day I had a lot of fun with it despite the frustrating controls because it was truly unique for the time in a lot of respects...
The days before engines actually used physics and just used static placement on a single surface: If bullet.object = npcregion.head then animation = backflip Else Animation = nobackflipforyou
6:10 It's the latter, regress. "Innovate" means to introduce something new or make changes to something previously established. "Regress" means to return to a former or less developed state.
I was obsessed with this game when I was a kid. I remember a really gnarly glitch in the hospital level where the helicopter wouldn't spawn on the roof.
I managed to get to the part where you plant the smoke bombs and disguise yourself as a fireman to sneak out on the hardest difficulty. There's a guy standing by the exit who arrests you on sight and I never figured out what to do.
I remember playing through this game as a teenager. Looking back at now, I am surprised that I had the patience to play such a poorly made game. On the Hard setting I got to the computer room at C.I.A. HQ but I could never get past the static yellow alarm laser. I then traded this game for another game.
I made my own fun running around the embassy level shooting and poisoning people. Back in those days I was around 12 so I just immediately looked at cheat codes.
This game was actually really impressive at the time, just because of all the stuff it did. In retrospect... Maybe it was just a little too ambitious, or maybe it was just a bit undercooked. But you can't say it wasn't innovative, it did a lot of things that weren't common until later stealth action games. Remember, this game came out the same year as Metal Gear Solid.
He literally said it was ahead of it's time in his review. It's like you watched the video (his opinion) then just summarized it, but wrote it if what you were saying was unique. Weird guy
What'd you expect? He's dunked in UA-cam money! If Mr.Beast can do crazy shxt then im sure James could afford a demolition crew and C4 to blow up a mint PS1 in his man cave xD
It’s strange, a Mission Impossible game with the iconic shot of Tom Cruise hanging on the floor during the heist would make a perfect box-art for an N-64 Cover.
Doesn't really fit the Nerds MO though, sure it's a derivative Sci Fi shooter but it's competently put together and doesn't really do anything particularly badly except for it's heavy handed narrative.

What about Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake?
I honestly thought this game was awesome back in 1998, groundbreaking for its time
Metal Gear Solid came out the same year, so I wouldn’t exactly say MI is groundbreaking, even for it’s day.
Likewise
"nothing like Tom Cruise" to be fair no character on n64 looked like anyone ever

Way to go
Me too
I had this game as a kid.
The embassy has some of the best music in the game too imo, the theme for the CIA hq rooftop was the best though
Do you remember that weird level at the end in which you can talk to the developers but you have a time limit for some reason
Have watched your vids for the last 12 years, and it's such a delight to continue watching your work! I hope you and your loved ones are doing well.
The days before engines actually used physics and just used static placement on a single surface:

then animation = backflip
Else

Whang?
That Tom Cruise cameo at the end has to be in the top 5 Nerd moments ever.
It was an impersonator. The end of the video says: Evan Ferrante as: "Not Tom Cruise"
That isn't him... It is a impersonator you can hire for gigs. Go back to Fortnite kid
You fellas take things a little too literally.
@@MoondustOverdose Remember it's the internet, you need to always specify the obvious
" imagine a device that can send text messages that fits in your pocket?" That already exists. It's called a pager.
I think he was joking.
it would be cool if they put games in it, like a game boy
r/whoooosh
Nah, that kind of stuff only exists on Star Trek.
Yep, everyone has a pager nowadays. Crazy huh?
I was obsessed with this game when I was a kid. I remember a really gnarly glitch in the hospital level where the helicopter wouldn't spawn on the roof.
If you’re an old-school spy fan, I hope you know about the show “danger five” it’s got a perfect retro vibe for a newer show
That show's fvckin hilarious 😆
where can i find it? i watched it years ago on netflix but now its vanished from the internet (brazilian internet at least lol)
I love Danger Five! I got to know it after their success with Italian Spiderman
Dude, this game was sssoooo friggin hard when I was a kid.
Is it easy now when you're not a kid?
Is it hard now?

This game was actually really impressive at the time, just because of all the stuff it did. In retrospect... Maybe it was just a little too ambitious, or maybe it was just a bit undercooked. But you can't say it wasn't innovative, it did a lot of things that weren't common until later stealth action games. Remember, this game came out the same year as Metal Gear Solid.
He literally said it was ahead of it's time in his review. It's like you watched the video (his opinion) then just summarized it, but wrote it if what you were saying was unique. Weird guy

Guitar Guy's skeleton shoulda flipped him off after he was done.
Missed opportunity. Maybe next time?
or do you mean he should been pick something from the couch and then suddenly jump instead?
What couch? It was all greenscreened all along.

I enjoyed this game but difficulty wise was challenging. I had to cheat by using an unlimited health code to finish the game on impossible difficulty.
