I have a feeling that the kid James is referring to is himself.
'True Story'
Could be
I'm pretty sure he was referring to 6 year old me. That sh@# scared me man.
I played this game in one of those genesis collection games, and when I saw the whole tornado thing I was just confused, but in a freaked out way, like WTH happened??!!!
For a split second I thought he was referencing Johnny Vs.
I love how even some truly terrible games he's finished, but he rage quit this one. Legend.
Except Ecco isn't a terrible game. Assuming you were going in that direction....
@@bradydavis5791 right? I liked this game, it wasn't that bad.
He rage quitted The Immortal. It's a classic game in my opinion like Ecco.
@@jakejutras5420 I'm glad I'm not the only one. It's more of a non-nostalgic favourite of mine as I never played it on the original hardware, but it and its sequel are among my favourites in the various Genesis collections. I was disappointed they never made their way into the current gen one, but I suppose that's why I keep my old games/systems around...apparently to play games from even older systems.
Finishing Ecco separated the men from the boys.
The yellow chroma key effect on the water in the jacuzzi was pretty funny.
Fun Fact: The average jazuzzi tub holds 200-300 gallons. So it would take around 3000 cans of beer to fill that thing.
When I was a kid, my dentist had a Genesis, with Ecco the Dolphin. So, this game reminds me of dental drills...

Just for the halibut? He's too fintellectual to use fish puns.
I had the exact same thought XD haha
I had such fond memories of this game just because its atmosphere was unlike anything I'd ever encountered in a game to that point. In a time where every game was trying to grab your attention with bright visuals, punchy addictive soundtracks and wild settings, it was something unique to have a game based on a real life concept, and with a mellow, ambient soundtrack (at least near the start) and realistic art style. Ecco had an unmatched sense of atmosphere
@Channel07 EVO is also ridiculously expensive.
I love how everybody is talking about him drinking in a pool of Rolling Rock but nobody is talking about how he has a Daniel Tiger towel.
"I've read in zoo books..." best line of episode
Water levels and fetch quests. Everyone's favourite levels.
Both rolled into two Echo games that just so happen to be nothing but just water levels and fetch quests...
I was hoping for sewer levels and docks leverls.
Wayne: NOT!
Said no one ever!
They should've added "swim thorough rings" levels also.
Disclaimer: No Rolling Rock beers were hurt in the making of this video.

...But the dolphin wAsnt so lucky 🤘😂🤣😷🤘
The cans say otherwise
@@WhiteyRAy2422 the dolphin wasn't lucky at all
15:34 It's funny because that sound effect is actually a swearword on _SpongeBob_ .
AVGN absolutely NEEDS to play Chakan: The Forever Man. Has to be one of the most frustrating and cryptic but graphically excelling platformer action game in the Genesis.
Remember playing that on my Game Gear. Don't know if any different on Genesis version. But was a hard game n got me frustrated if I remember right
He's already done Chakan. If you search you can find it pretty easily.
Hmmm, I could have sworn he did an episode on Chakan. Maybe I'm getting it confused with Beetlejuice... 🤔
@@Aquascape_Dreaming Nope, he hasn't done anything on Chakan. Hope he does someday
You mighta saw him playing it. But think was a small review of something, like what the game gear was or game classics of Genesis
As someone who has worked in bars most of his adult life, tossing a keg around like that is no easy task, empty or not. Respect.
@Sean Tron are you gatekeeping being strong?
NGL This game was one of the hardest games ever made
The oxygen mechanic made it more difficult 🤦♂️
tedium ≠ difficult :p
@@serpico1616 Sureeeeee.
I played the Sega CD version which was the same game only with music. I remember the soundtrack being calming and mesmerizing and it kept me playing the game all the way through. I didn't think it was that bad at the time.
'That bad'? It's a great game!
He's in a pool of beer and even as he's under, he drinks from a can. I am so ded
Lol
What a gentleman
Well if you are in a pool of water and you're thirsty, you wouldn't just drink from the pool, now would you?
@@ciberkid22 true true
the soundtrack of the CD port is still the most beautiful and relaxing video game music ever.
Easily! Ice Zone music was my fave.
Oh yes...and the Sega CD version had more levels too, and those extra levels explain some of the story that was left out of the cartridge version.
Super nice to see an ”old school” nerd episode instead of a game rewiev, loved it!
I loved Ecco as a kid- but I'm 90% sure I got almost no were with it. I only recall doing tricks in the air and trying to jump over things.
Fond memories- think I only played it for like- a day- but the idea of building up speed and launching in the air was super new to me. That and pushing rocks and such- blew kid me's mind-
For some reason I liked this game and actually finished it when I was in my teens, this may be down to the fact it came from a video store and only had three days to finish it
Gamely gives you that same feeling if you want to give yourself a time limit before your next game comes in the mail.
"The dreamcast is 21 years old this month!" I'll never forget that.
I had a friend who was pumped for dreamcast. He bought one, and i laughed at him. I said lets see how many games they actually put out.
I was right
congrats you're old
Booyah!

@@b.lloydreese2030 Bro you were wrong lol, the Dreamcast library is full of awesome games.

Do not call him the nostalgia critic. While I still like some of his videos personally, he doesn’t have the same charm anymore.
He’s become The Nostalgia Cricket.
If James would start a stand up comedy, it would be legendary. I like how he goes to edges to make us laugh
Secretary: "Why did you invest in an Ecco re-release?"
CEO of Rolling Rock: "No reason"
You ever wonder if Rolling Rock loves AVGN seeing it probably helped make them a bit more known? Maybe it's just me seeing I am not into the alcohol industry and don't know how popular it was before AVGN.
There needs to be a part 2 to this review, The nerd needs to see the final boss, he just has to... pure nightmare fuel

I had this on Game Gear and it infuriated me to no end.
After so many years he finally did it, he drown in beer.
More like bathed in it and screamed underbeer.
The AVGN missed the occasion of telling the story behind the creation of the character/game, it's rather hilariously weird.
Its made in hungary, thats why its so challenging
I heard the game was heavilly inspired by the drug ketamine.
It's hilariously weird until you find out the dolphin drowned itself out of depression.
Alezander2002 so the difficulty was artificially hard? Okay, then!
Google John Lilly
"I read in ZooBooks" really got me
I loved Zoobooks (or something very similar) as a kid!
I had an entire collection of ZooBooks, sadly they were given away...
Fond mems. I used to often check them out of our elementary school library. If it’s the series I’m thinking of, they had such great photos and artwork and diagrams like James shows of the dolphins anatomy!
I had ecco on the sega CD, and always loved the game. It was tough to figure out, but very memorable.
