I'm in a reading slump. This video sucks. We're going to roll with it :)

Happy to hear from you anyways! You inspire me to read more. I'm doing a Bachelor's degree in literature, and your videos give me both a push to read and a break from the heavy stuff of my course. I just finished Elantris on audiobook, and I loved it! It could totally have the potential of the Mistborn trilogy, if he decides to write more. The same with Warbreaker - I was so sad to find out that it was (currently) just a stand alone! So much potential in the world, the magic and the many characters I've come to love. Anyways, don't be hard on yourself. We are where we are for a reason, sometimes we need a break. Let your mind breathe and the stories sink in for contemplation and deeper exploration. When you feel curious again, pick up a book that is easy and exciting, and you'll be all good again :) Much love

BookswithEmilyFox I noticed you haven't been around but I didn't know you were in Florida or in a reading slump. I guess we're on opposite ends, because i keep plowing through books... I'd suggest Windwitch because you read that before Shadow and Bone..

hehe you are not alone there Emily!! August/sept have been VERY slow reading months for me. I have 2 books left to reach my reading goal on goodreads and I cant for the life of me finish a book right now. I realise I was just crash reading to get to the finish line faster because uni is starting soon again. I see now reading challenges aren't good for meLOL. I get soo competitive with myself. I think I wont set one next year xP

I vote that you continue with the Grisha trilogy because once you get to the Six of Crows duology I guarantee you it'll get you out of that slump. Worked for me!!! I'll be starting Leigh Bardugo's Wonder Woman Warbringer by next week and I pre-ordered her newest book The Language of Thorns which I can't wait to get. And some where in there I need to read American Street!!! Dying to get to that one too! I need to read faster!

I am the one saying this: Six of Crows almost put me in a slump :O, my god was the first half boring (I would have DNF'ed if I hadn't already bought the second one in the duology...)
Always glad to hear other people did like those books though. I can kinda see where the love is coming from, but I didn't feel it at all. :O

When I'm in a slump. (Like right now). I watch Booktube videos and stare at my bookshelves until I can bring myself to reorganize them. Sometimes that inspires me to read because I see all the books I have and I think about how proud I am to have them and it makes me want more. I don't think that sounds very healthy...

I believe a big reason for a reading slump is just having a huge tbr, i've seen that with a lot booktubers and experienced it myself. There are just too much stories to choose from plus seeing these many unread makes it more a task than a pleasure. For me more than 20 books is already too much and I'm struggling a lot although I love reading.

Possible choices: 1) Finish reading The Shining since you are more than half way done with the book, 2) Start a brand new book that peaks your interest the most (Scythe sounds fascinating), 3) Rereading books you seriously loved in the past, and 4) Take a break from reading for awhile until you really miss it. You could review other things on here... like music, TV, movies, etc. Or maybe vlog?

Hi. Unfortunately, I can't help you there, because I have not read either one of those books. Right now I am just about finished with a stand alone novel called Silver Wattle, which is kind of a mix between being a thriller and a romance about 2 sisters that are living in Prague Czechoslovakia shortly after WWII. I have been listening to the audio book version, and I found the narrator to be mesmorizing. I am also trying to start listening to the Farseer Royal Assassin by Robin Hobb. I also started, but ran out of time to keep going, listening to this Savage Song by Victoria Schwab. It's the first book in a series, the second one is Our Dark Duet. I also have been meaning to get back to finishing listening to all of the Guy Gavriel Kay books. I finished working on the Fionavar Tapestry, and now I need to start working on Tigana.

Please give the Enchanted another chance it is one of my favourites books. So moving so interesting. Also to get you out of the reading slump I recommend The Devil of Nanking so interesting I could stop reading. Very interesting main character and setting because it feels sort ofike a mystery o believe you will feel compelled to keep reading, plus it is really short l. But a Head full of Ghost it is so good as well. I was so enthralled with the story it did almost feel like a movie to me. Great writing too.

I just finished 'Wayward', which is the second book in the 'Wayward Pines' series, and I can't wait to read the next one! So I'd definitely recommend 'Pines'! 'Dark Matter' was the reason I also checked them out, as that was one of my favorite reads last year.
Also, 'The Devil of Nanking' by Mo Hayder is a brilliant book! One of my favorites from Mo Hayder, if not my favorite. It's a book I've been wanting to reread for quite some time actually.
On another note, have you read anything by Don Winslow?

I found the bell jar to be really boring. It was definitely an accurate depiction of how depression can affect someone but not certain it is the best book to read while in a slump. I loved a head full of ghosts. It's not scary but it's creepy and I really liked the ending. Scythe is good too and I ended up staying up all night to finish it but I've heard some people say it's boring. I've been in a reading slump too. I've read two books this month and then some graphic novels. If you like Manga or graphic novels those can, sometimes, help with a slump.

It's too bad that you are in a slump :S If I were you, I would drop Crazy Rich Asians...it's a fun light series, but more for the summertime, and it can be hard to get into because there are so many characters and plot lines. Apart from that, I haven't read many of the books you presented, but Oryx and Crake is one of the best I've ever read. It also can be treated as a stand alone, as I've heard the second is from a different perspective, though I haven't read it yet. The Sythe book, the Brandon Sanderson YA, and the Blake Crouch series look interesting and I might look into them :) In the meantime, enjoy the hot weather we've been having!

Sorry to hear about the revenge of the reading slump :( For the voting, I vote neither, Traitor's Blade by Sebastien de Castell. ^_^ Your going to ban me for recommending that book so much lol I just think it's a great book to read anytime let alone in a reading slump. I just started the second book Knight's Shadow, and I started laughing so much on the first page after the prologue. Sebastien's humour and writing is seocnd to none. :)

Maybe you could put all of those aside and instead pick something new that's maybe more light-hearted/humorous? If you haven't already read it I'd recommend The Lies of Locke Lamora, or the First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie - lots of action but plenty of humour in there so not heavy going.
