I've been reading the illustrated Harry Potter books with my kids (my first time reading the illustrated version, their first time reading Harry Potter) and it's been an amazing experience. I'm getting my kids into my all-time favorite series and I get to see all the gorgeous artwork in the illustrated versions. I'm so glad they came out with those editions.
If you enjoy reading anything by Shirley Jackson you need to read “We Have Always Lived In the Castle” you will love it. Is super short too and they movie is coming out (anytime now).
I gasped when I saw your eye makeup. Stunning. One book I absolutely need to read before the end of the year is The Poppy War!! And you've really got me interested in the NK Jemisin trilogy and Red Sister!! And I'm finishing up HP 7 right now :)
I love the idea of just having a group tbr for the end of th year! Because it is coming up :) this was GREAT. I heard literally so much about The Haunting of Hill House
After you talked about Red Sister in several videos I downloaded a sample a couple weeks ago and then the whole thing yesterday. It’s like a song I keep thinking about it in my mind and even read some of it on my kindle app on my phone at work today- that’s a first. I am usually a mystery nonfiction person though I read all of Harry Potter. Thanks talking about it
I really enjoyed the audio version of “The Woman in Black” by Susan Hill available on Audible. Think it would be a perfect addition to your TBR list. The narrator, Paul Ansdell, was absolutely perfect at conveying the emotions. It may be my favorite audiobook of the year in truth. It’s also super short and can be finished in 5 hours.
Just like everyone else said....Haunting of Hill House on Netflix is the best thing I watched movie, show, or otherwise this year. Cannot recommend enough!
I loved reading Grey Sister and can't wait for Holy Sister to come out next year. Between now and Christmas I plan to finish reading the Court of Broken Knives, then I am trying to be good and not buy any more books till after Christmas, so will see what the library has available. I will probably also re-read A Christmas Carol as that is my annual Christmas read.
I have to admit, I spent years overlooking Mark Lawrence's books but this year I decided to give them a go and I have managed to read the Broken Empire trilogy and I have just finished The Red Queen's War and I loved them. They're dark and funny and completely up my alley. I'm saving Red Sister and Grey Sister for next year and read them close to Holy Sister being released.
Good luck with those readings..!😉😄👍 can't wait to hear your 2018 best/worst. December will be pretty light on the amount of books to read..and i don't even feel bad about it!😝😉💖
I don't know if you've read it yet, but The Silence by Tim Lebbon was great and it's getting a movie before the end of the year so now is a great time. Its sort of horror, sort of thriller, sort of pre-apocalypse. A cave diving expedition in Moldova I think unearths this massive sealed off cave system and a race of bat like creatures get out. They breed incredibly quickly and eat anything and spread across Europe killing everyone. They hunt by sound so you have to stay quiet or get dead. The main characters are a family in the UK who are trying to get to Scotland before the Vesps reach them and so it's a very drawn out, dread filled story where they know the creatures will reach them and they're following their spread on social media with cities going dark one by one, but they don't know exactly how long they've got or what will happen. The daughter is also deaf which drew comparisons to A Quiet Place, but this book came out first. Don't know if you'll like it, but I love post-apocalypse stories so seeing it happen was fun. It's a great read.
My goal is to finish a quarter of Atlas Shrugged, and also A Feast for Crows (ASOIAF) by the end of the month. Probably around 30 hours to get there as both are audiobooks :) Also reading Siddhartha again out loud with my husband; it's his first time reading it. What's funny is I am planning on re-listening to Harry Potter book 1 next month! Perfect time of year. But those illustrated versions look great!
Hey Emily, saldy the 4th volume of Harry Potter will not come out before next year (as the illustration process is getting longer), but there is an illustrated "Fantastic Beasts" that just came out tho ;)
Your eye makeup is gorgeous .. I love the pop of blue! Just a heads up The Haunting of Hill House book is quite different from the Netflix show... I haven't read the book but I loved the show.
I didn't realise the Haunting on Hill House was a book...Not sure why I'm surprised as TV and movies are really drawing inspiration from them, which I'm happy about but then I feel like I have to read everything before I came watch something hahaha! My end of year tbr is going up tomorrow! I'm taking part in 2 readathons as well so hopefully will have a really productive reading month and can see the year out happily ^^ I hope you enjoy all the books you've chosen to read for December Also, really random but I don't know how I hadn't noticed your beautiful accent before!
Emily, I don't know if you're near Montreal, but Sylvain Neuvel is at the "Salon du livre de Montreal". You have to bring your english version, but he can sign it :P
I have to put the Red Sister on my To Read pile! I'm currently reading The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, and enjoying it, though I'm getting a bit bogged down by all the male personas. I have a few other things on my shelf, like Vicious by VE Schwab, or The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden, and I need to finish David Suzuki's autobiography. I might fall on a few favourites next month, like a Harry Potter (I haven't done a re-read in 10 years), or The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery. :)
Oooooh, I like the eye shadow and sweater thing you got going on there... Right now I'm reading The Little Shop of Found Things by Paula Brackston which I am really liking so far. More of a Mystery book.
Dance of Thieves and Record of a spaceborn few are on my holds list at the library currently. I am reading blood for blood which is a followup to wolf by wolf which I loved. I have so many books coming to me its going to be like christmas the next time I am at the library I literally have 4 things waiting for me each time it seems! I can't wait to see what you finish up and how far I make it. I already hit my goal for the year so I upped it.
I was wanting to know what people think of Abandon! Hope it’s good. I don’t know if you listen to podcasts but Limetown seems to have a similar plot and is amazing thriller/mystery.
The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager! It felt like an old horror novel set in a creepy camp and the ending blew me away. I got a little frustrated with where I thought it was going and then I was knocked over and actually surprised.
I'm planning on reading a whole bunch of Shakespeare, including Antony & Cleopatra. I'll be doing Book Roast's Magical Readathon in December (on my own time), which will also include the first book in the Broken Earth trilogy. I'm excited!
The Haunting of Hill House is one of my absolute favorite spooky books! Shirley Jackson’s writing is just so beautiful and atmospheric. There are a couple different movie adaptations (I’ve only seen the newer 1999 version, I was 10 at the time so I don’t remember it super well, but I don’t think I would recommend it 😂), and now the netflix series, which I’ve heard IS really good, but nothing like the book whatsoever (which I’m glad I know beforehand so I can just enjoy it as its own thing when I watch it!). I really hope you like the book when you read it! :)

I need to get the illustrated editions of Harry Potter! I've been wanting them FOREVER and I still haven't bought them 🙈
Great makeup today! I am almost finished with 'into the drowning deep' by mira grant. I can't remember if you've read it yet, but its a great book based on killer mermaids...
for an adaptation of Hill house I would suggest the 1963 movie which is wonderful, the tv show netflix made isnt an adaptation, but rather just makes reference to the book.
Haunting of Hill House is one of my favorite horror books. Be warned when you watch the TV show, though. It's a very loose adaptation. The best movie adaptation one so far is the 1963 Haunting. I highly recommend
Have you read the Caraval series? I'm on the first one, and I think you'd love it! I usually don't like YA or any sort of romance, but it's GREAT. It has a magical system that I've never read anything like before.
For recommendation: Can’t remember if you’ve read Tana French’s In the Woods. It’s got a bit more depth than your average mystery/thriller. The main mystery itself is kinda easy to figure out, but there are a lot more layers to it. It’s also the first one and my favorite in that series.
I want to read that trilogy by N.K. Jemison and Dance of Thieves so bad! Record of A Spaceborn Few was my least favorite of the trilogy, because I just didn't care about the characters as much and wanted more aliens-less humans :P The last third to half was better than the first half though. I loved Dark Matter, but after you read those other ones from Blake Crouch I'm nervous to branch out so I'm excited to hear about Abandon! :)
My recommendation for a horror book is HorrorStor. It's the best horror book that I've personally read in a while. Also I'm currently reading The Green Mile and I'm wanting to read over the next few months: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Eragon by Christopher Paolini, Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman, Circe by Madeline Miller. And probably other books. I'm not sure yet. I'm a bit of mood reader.
Your videos are my fav. ❤️ thanks to you I started reading again a year and a half ago :) Btw I know this is your book channel but I need a tutorial on your eye look on your other channel!!
I'm reading Harry Potter too but in French for the first time and it's hard!! 😂 but so worth it. I don't speak as good french as you do English but it will come soon I hope ^^
I need to finish third and forth(last) book from Elena Ferrante(I don't know what is Engish translation, but in my language it's called Napoli's stories). My birthday is coming and I asked for Haruki Murakami's book Killing Commandatore, so I hope I will get to it till the end of a year😅 I have few more books in mind but those three are must reads before 2019! I love you eye look. I hope you will do a tutorial on your other channel on that look😍
I just finished A Discovery Of Witches as an audiobook. Man, it was long! Almost 24-hours of listening only to discover its only the first book in a series (possibly a trilogy)! I endured the last 8-hours of it rather than enjoyed.
@@nelesophie174 It was totally the opposite for me lol! The first half of the first book was a slog and from there I couldn't get to the rest of the trilogy fast enough. It always interests me when people have such vastly different experiences of the same books.
i think you should read Night Flimby marisha pesl because i am also reading it and so far it is good. and i can say that i am buddy reading this book with emily ... :) and as always great video.
My best friend love Michel Bussi, I wanted to try to read his books but I didn't know which one I should start with. Do you think I can try with black water lilies?

pretty much all of these books look so good, and your eye look in this video is killer!!! love u and your videos
The haunting of hill house TV show was sooooo good !! I recommend it 😉 have to read the book too now 😂
I love it so much too :)
What Mystery/Thriller/Horror book should I had to this TBR?
Rebecca?
Have you read heart shaped box? I'm 25% through and I think It's going to interesting!
Rebecca is one which I want to get to soon! Do let us know if you're reading it in Dec! 😁
If you enjoy reading anything by Shirley Jackson you need to read “We Have Always Lived In the Castle” you will love it. Is super short too and they movie is coming out (anytime now).
PLEASE read Rebecca asap!!
The Terror by Dan Simmons is a great one, but it's MEGA long.
The Haunting of Hill House series on Netflix is INCREDIBLE!!!! I would highly recommend checking it out after you read the book!
It was really good and thankfully not too scary..sad as well!
I can't stop looking at your eyeshadows! So prettyyyyy

I'm going to be (trying) reading Harry Potter for the first time this Christmas. Wish me luck.

I was really looking forward to the release of the GoF illustrated edition but I think it’s coming out next year now 😭 I love rereading Harry Potter!
I just bought The Haunting of Hill House ☺ excited to read it!
i mean there are two movies of haunting of hill house (one from the 60s and one from the 90s) but the new netflix series is phenomenal! watch it!

there's so many books to get done by the end of the year and so little time haha

Unfortunately Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is not coming out this year 😩 we have to wait until 2019 🤞🏽
I can't wait to see it's size and pictures!!
Im glad that he/she is taking the time she needs to do a good job 😃
I'm reading Harry Potter too but in French for the first time and it's hard!! 😂 but so worth it. I don't speak as good french as you do English but it will come soon I hope ^^
I could barely get through the fifth season, if the next one is better I might give it another go.
good luck with your tbr! ^^
Read Sadie by Courtney Summers! I think it's a YA thriller you'd enjoy!
The Haunting of Hill House is a series on Netflix, and it's SO GOOD. I really want to read the book. Hopefully I can find a copy locally.
the tv show Haunting of Hill House has subtle nods to the books but isn't like the book. The movie from 1999 wasn't bad.

Netflix TV show of Haunting of Hill House
What's your Hogwarts House? :)
No its not gonna be one a year anymore :( the illustrator needed more time or something.
