I always read Harry Potter in the summer for some reasons. It's also my goal to finish Sapiens this month. I feel exactly the same about it: the beginning was fascinating, but it gets kinda boring after a few chapters. I still want to finish it. I'm 3 books behind, I feel like I won't reach my goals! Thank you for keeping me inspired all throughout 2017, Emily!
i started harry potter i switch between the audiobooks and the physical copies and i read the first 3 books in a week and i'm almost done w the goblet of fire omggg i definitely get that warm fuzzy feeling
Wuthering heights...😇 My Christmas read! Not an obligatory one though, just tend to get more attracted towards books and stories with winter or snow as an integral part of the plot...
I’ve been reading one Harry Potter book per year. Usually between Halloween and New Years. It seems the atmosphere is perfect around that time. 😊 hope you feel better soon!
I reached my reading goals of 50 books in June, I was quite surprised! I'm on track to finish 100 books for the year, so I'm doing super great! I reread Harry Potter around Christmas two years ago, but usually I picked them up right when school was over in June! My typical Christmas read is the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness. I used to receive the latest book for Christmas so I would always reread them ;-) Like you I am trying to finish what I started... except it's series I want to finish, not individual books! I'm attempting to finish 5 series this month, it's going to be tough!
I just started reading the illustrated HP books, only have the first 3 but that's fine. My husband and I binge watch HP over Christmas every year. Happy Holidays! Love your videos, books and make-up!
A discussion video will be really good. I feel like a lot of booktubers have so many amazing books but none of them talk on how to maintain them. There's surprisingly not so much information on the internet. I take good care of my books still it turns yellow over time. So, can you discuss about how you maintain your books? Do you dust them everyday? Cover them while reading? How do protect them from yellowing?
I think I take good care of my books and maybe I'm wrong and but I believe there's no avoiding the yellowing over time, it just happens... It would be a good topic tho, specially from booktubers since a bunch of them have a lot of book to take care of.
I think my books are in a cool, dark and dry environment. Like, everyone keeps their books in a similar environment ,either living room or bedroom. Still, they face yellowing . There's no escaping that.
The yellowing is caused by acidity in the paper. The only way to prevent it is to purchase books printed on acid-free paper, which isn't widely available, and then keep them away from other sources. Ex. Don't store books in cardboard boxes.
I'm on the same page as you, Emily. I met my reading goal early in the year and now I'm just excited for the New year! Getting a fresh start in 2018 is what I'm preparing for. 🎇🎇
Can't wait to watch all the HP movies again! It's such a Xmas tradition with my husband but anytime they're on tv we'll watch lol. Even though we have them on DVD.
Emily, I'm so excited that you're reading So you've been publicly shamed. It's changed the way I deal with social media. And as a UA-camr with two channels I really think you'll get a lot out of it! So exciting!
In the last few months I've been in a reading slump and additionally I haven't had a lot of time to read, but I want it to change in december, even though it's going to be a really busy month, so fingers crossed! I want to finish books I've already started (and not start new ones! so I definitely feel you), in particular "the first fifteen lives of harry august" - I picked it up because of you and I'm really enjoying it- "The sun and her flowers" and "why God is a woman". Hopefully I'm going to read more after I'm done with these!
I’m so glad you finally got the Last Town, I can’t wait to hear what you think! I haven’t watched the show, so I don’t know if they ended it the same, but I was surprisingly ok with the book end. I totally agree with you on the Gemina audiobook, I gave it up after 2 hours and got the physical book instead. I haven’t started reading it, but at a glance, I find I missed out on a lot in the audio, so I’ll start it again from the beginning.
Emily I just found your channel & was wondering if you have a video talking about your all-time favorite books or favorite genres? I’m a voracious reader (300+ books each year, but to be fair, I’m a really fast reader) and am always looking for books to read! It’s nice to see you discussing books, Bc makeup & books are literally my MC topics of discussion w/ my friends (if we don’t count RL topics like work or politics) 😜
Myy goal is 100 so I have to get a move on as I am almost done 80. . I have 6 library books on my floor and a few waiting in the wings and I am excited but still nervous - I have some amazing ones that I can't wait to get started. Currently reading wonder woman warbringer by leigh bardugo and loving it so far. HP I always re read in the summer its the best! Finish your books girl its so satisfying :)
I actually really like to read Harry Potter right at the beginning of the year. It gives me motivation to keep reading throughout the year. I really want to read Scythe by Neil Shusterman and I really want to finish A Feast for Crows by George R.R Martin. I too have lost motivation since I hit my reading goal at like the end of October. Lol.
My favorite time to read Harry Potter is definitely around Christmas! I’m actually rereading the series for the first time in a long time too, and I want to finish the 6th and 7th books before the end of the year. I also started a million books that I want to finish, just like you haha
I just started reading HP this year and I love the series so so much!!! I think it's great for any time of the year but for some reason I love it during the Fall season (maybe it's because that's when I started reading it) and definitely Christmas time also!
Hi. I am so sorry to hear that you are sick. I hope that you get better soon. I do know how you feel about starting books or series and then getting the urge to start other books. I have been getting into the bad habit of not finishing series for a long time. I am still listening to the Kong's Dragon, Crown of Stars book 1 by Kate Elliott, which has been really interesting. In this series I am reading not only about a new magic system, but also about a new religion too. That has been really cool. I am also still working on the Subtle Knife too.
I definitely hope to get to at least one Harry Potter. Also reading The Secret Garden and some Dickens. At least A Christmas Carol. I have been in mood to pick up some Austen too, but we will see how far I get. Basicly the month to pick up whatever is tempting! I enjoy your videos a lot, thank you!
Yeah no, Illuminae is DEFINITELY my favourite of the two. But as someone you cringes at hearing cheesy YA lines on audiobooks, I'd say reading them is definitely the best way to go. The Illuminae files is definitely one of my fav YA sci-fi series though, and I can't wait for Obsidio!! 😄
I started Gemina as well and literally it’s just been sitting on my coffee table staring at me for months while I spend time reading other things. I’m maybe about 1/4th of the way through it and I agree that it isn’t nearly as good at the first one. However, I’m hoping I can push myself and finish it before the end of the year so I can be ready for the final book.
Last year I hit my goal way to early so I upped it this year by 10 books but already hit that goal on October and am now 12 books beyond that. Best book was Something Like Happy by Eva Woods I would say and the Remnant Chronicles. Worst book was probably one I read for my classes at University...
I feel the same about geminae, but it's also true that the written form has a lot more to chew, drawings, handwriting, etc. My issue is with the plot actually
I want to read Let it Snow for Christmas this year. I’ve only ever read one christmassy book for Christmas and that was an accident but it was perfect 😂
Thank you! I had Illuminae as an audiobook and I HATED it. Then I hear of how many people loved it, and I just couldn't finish it. I might give it a second chance but as a physicial book.
I associate Harry potter with Christmas, no idea why. Tbr for the week: steelheart by brandon Sanderson and finish strange angels by lilly st crow (?). I rarely plan, I just pick whatever I'm in the mood for :)
I'm hoping to read A Christmas Carol during Christmas week and also 101 Dalmatians because I've never read either of those before and they seem quite Christmassy reads
I set myself a reading goal of 30 books and I'm barely at 10, I just can't seem to read as much as I used to... Hopefully I'll read the 2nd and 3rd books of Harry Potter this month. (first time reading them -shame- 😳) Can't wait for those best and worst books of 2O17 videos.
I really want to re-read the Darker Shade of Magic series - I started it last year at Christmas and I want to re-live the amazing whirlwind of the trilogy!
My goal was 50 boks this year and I met it! Right now I'm at 60 books. Next year I might drop it a bit, to 35 maybe, so I can focus on other hobbies more. :D
I want to read the Wayward Pines trilogy. I watch the tv show some years ago and only recently found out that it's a book! I'm reading Harry Potter for the first time this month!
Thanks to how busy and chaotic my life will be dealing with holiday hours at work I only have four books on my tbr for this month. Sleeping Beauties by Stephen and Owen King, Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero, Strange Weather by Joe Hill, and Bonfire by Krysten Ritter. I hit my goal of 75 books for the year in September.
My goal for the year was 52 books, and currently I'm at 55. My last "goal" is to finish A Clash of Kings and I'm down to about 450 pages, but it is sloooowwwww depending whose PoV I'm in.
I also had to quit my Goodreads reading goal because I had set a 90 book goal and could only get up to 65. It takes me a lot longer to listen to audio books.
I am reaaaally considering reading Sapiens. I don't read a lot of nonfiction, but I love anthropology and history. I really should read more of it. Very curious to hear what you think of it.
(I really should finish watching the video before I comment lol) - I usually do my Harry Potter re-reads in the fall and winter because I always seem to associate Harry Potter with fall smells. I like lighting my fall scented candles and reading them curled up in a blanket.
I actually liked Illuminae more too, I mean gave both 5 stars but Illuminae was more action and more intriguing I think, in Gemina I really hated female lead and the story kinda was in a way very similar. Tho I am really excited for third one :) I love HP reading on Christmas too, somehow it just feels perfect :)
Hey Emily, love your videos. :) I was wondering if you'd be reading The Snowman by Jo Nesbo. I've picked up a bunch of Jo Nesbo books and was thinking I'd read alongwith you. In fact I follow you on Goodreads and saw that you had The Bat on your TBR, and I have the same book as well. Do share when you read that one, would be fun to read along. Cheers!

So happy to hear it! I keep hearing people rave about audiobooks I hated... same with Waking Gods by Sylvain Neuvel.. I don't get how people can like that audiobook 😂
I just started ready The Raven Boys and so far... 😳I'm not loving it. I'm really not far in so I need to give it a chance but I'm not getting the hype yet...
I don't get the hype for that one...it does get a bit better at some point but nothing crazy. I want to read the second book since I have it and hopefully I'll like it more!
Okay, I have been SO CONFUSED why the Illuminae series gets recommended so much as an audiobook... I read the physical copy and really enjoyed it, but I just couldn't understand how all the cheesy stuff that doesn't seem TOO BAD when you see it in next format wouldn't be unbearable when it's read outloud.
Me neither! Yes there's a cast of voices and some music but the cheesy stuff becomes painful and there's only so many times you can listen to email addresses, dates and file numbers! I probably would have liked Gemina fine if I had read it but it was very meh as an audiobook :/
As much as I dislike Matt Dillon, I preferred the Wayward Pines tv show over the book. I quit after Pines because I hated his writing style, despite how great the plot was. The sentence fragments and ridiculous misogyny totally turned me off.
Hey Emily, I tagged you to do the Books Under the Tree tag in my latest video, I hope you enjoy doing this very cool tag. Have a very lovely day! ua-cam.com/video/UNYLb_Erg7Y/v-deo.html
I'm new to book tube and to be honest when I see people saying they've read 10 books a month I wonder whether they actually really enjoy them? Or take the time for the stories to sink in? Just seems like over consumption, so don't beat yourself up for "only" reading five - I would take your reviews on them much more seriously! x
I'm not saying that it isn't feasible, i'm just saying that reading books requires a level of concentration, and like everything, I wonder if you don't lose a bit of something when you binge. Quality over quantity! (but again that's just my opinion)
Agreed, I just don't think booktubers should feel guilt about not consuming as much - I've seen a few videos about it and thought I should say something as Emily seems quite nice, that's all.
Would you prefer a Q&A or a discussion video on a chosen subject? If so what would you like to discuss? :)
A Q&A 🙌 would be great
I like discussions maybe some theories on some of your favorite books
A Q&A please Emily! 😀 but a discussion video would also be great!
Q&A
Discussion!
I have my tea, a blanket, I'm so ready to watch!
I always read Harry Potter in the summer for some reasons. It's also my goal to finish Sapiens this month. that deathly hallows cover is so awesome
I’m only 2 books left from my goals so i think it’s gonna be easy even tho i’ve been kinda slow for the past two months. Hope you feel better soon. x
I reached my reading goals of 50 books in June, I was quite surprised! I'm on track to finish 100 books for the year, so I'm doing super great!

I always thought the yellowing was due to oxidation and the sunlight?
Keeping them in a cool dark and dry environment is probably key!
I think my books are in a cool, dark and dry environment. Like, everyone keeps their books in a similar environment ,either living room or bedroom. Still, they face yellowing . There's no escaping that.

Started The Reckoners trilogy off your love of Brandon Sanderson, and I love it! about a quarter of the way through Steelheart.
Sapiens is pretty much one of my top three of the years. I agree though, I preferred the beginning too, but I learned so much from that book. So cool
In the last few months I've been in a reading slump and additionally I haven't had a lot of time to read, but I want it to change in december, even though it's going to be a really busy month, so fingers crossed! I've never read Harry Potter, I did see the movies with my daughter. Hope you feel better soon and finish off those books before the new year.
Last year I met my goal way to early, so for 2017 I upped it and now won't make it lol. ugh.
Can't win 😂
Oh no!
Definitely think illuminae is better than Gemina!
Feel better!!! 💖💖💖

I love re-reading Harry Potter in the Fall!

Good luck!! I'm technically supposed to read 11 more books for my Around the Year in 52 Books Challenge, but I know that's not going to happen haha
I started Gemina as well and literally it’s just been sitting on my coffee table staring at me for months while I spend time reading other things.

Me too! It was my first time to do my Goodreads challenge and I wished I'd increased it😉 btw, thanks for accepting my request on goodreads!
Last year I hit my goal way to early so I upped it this year by 10 books but already hit that goal on October and am now 12 books beyond that.

When you re-read Harry Potter again you should listen to the Jim Dale audiobooks. He's an amazing narrator and his voice amplifies the fuzzies by 1000
I want to read Let it Snow for Christmas this year. I’ve only ever read one christmassy book for Christmas and that was an accident but it was perfect 😂
I have started a lot of books too, but I tend to do that a lot. There are also a lot of series where I'm behind and haven't read the next book.

The Last Town sounds pretty cool! o.O
I like to start the harry potter series at the end of winter
My goodness she's sooo lovely !!
Emily, have you read The Daughter of Smoke and Bone? I am currently reading it and I have a feeling you would love it😻
No not yet! The first one is on my shelf though!
BookswithEmilyFox I can hardly put it down😻
Get well soon! Xx
I set myself a reading goal of 30 books and I'm barely at 10, I just can't seem to read as much as I used to... Hopefully I'll read the 2nd and 3rd books of Harry Potter this month. (first time reading them -shame- 😳)

Middle of summer was the time for me too to read HP but I havent re read them in...9 years I think 😳 I plan to re read them next year
My goal was 25 and I’ve read 50, so I’m pleased!
Warning... Sleeping Beauties is a super long read lol
It really is. I started it in November and had to take a break from it for a while.
My goal for the year was 52 books, and currently I'm at 55. My last "goal" is to finish A Clash of Kings and I'm down to about 450 pages, but it is sloooowwwww depending whose PoV I'm in.
you look so pretty with this makeup look!! (Buuuut of course you always look pretty!!)

Hey Emily, love your videos. :)
I was wondering if you'd be reading The Snowman by Jo Nesbo. I've picked up a bunch of Jo Nesbo books and was thinking I'd read alongwith you. In fact I follow you on Goodreads and saw that you had The Bat on your TBR, and I have the same book as well. Do share when you read that one, would be fun to read along.
Cheers!
Id love to see reading vlogs from you
Would you consider making reading vlogs?
Totally agree with you, I thought the audiobook for Gemina was crap! The acting was so awkward, I basically cringed through the whole thing. I also didn't like Gemina overall as much as Illuminae (and I think both of them are way overhyped).
So happy to hear it! I keep hearing people rave about audiobooks I hated... same with Waking Gods by Sylvain Neuvel.. I don't get how people can like that audiobook 😂

I don't get the hype for that one...it does get a bit better at some point but nothing crazy. I want to read the second book since I have it and hopefully I'll like it more!
did you start reading six of crows duology? its one of my fav series
I always reread HP in summer :D
Caraval, An Ember In The Ashes, Stalking Jack The Ripper, A Shadow Bright And Burning,
Okay, I have been SO CONFUSED why the Illuminae series gets recommended so much as an audiobook... I read the physical copy and really enjoyed it, but I just couldn't understand how all the cheesy stuff that doesn't seem TOO BAD when you see it in next format wouldn't be unbearable when it's read outloud.

I probably would have liked Gemina fine if I had read it but it was very meh as an audiobook :/
I’m on 43.5 out of 50! I hope I can make it T_T
im 6 books "behind schedule" my reading goal is 50 books. dont think ill get there tho!
get well! 🤗😉
I liked Illuminae better than Gemina for sure
I picked up so you've been publicly shamed because of you. Sapiens, amazing! About to start Homodeus.
My goal is 100 books and I’m at 90 😅
I did not like Gemina either as Illiminae
I thought Illuminae
My goal was 30 I think and I'm at 79... Having a boyfriend leave for overseas is great motivation 😂😂
And I totally use bobby pins as bookmarks, too!
I felt the same way about Gemina i found it really boring and i was constantly cringing while listening to it.
So glad I'm not alone!! I have 45mins left and I can't wait to be done :S
As much as I dislike Matt Dillon, I preferred the Wayward Pines tv show over the book. I quit after Pines because I hated his writing style, despite how great the plot was. The sentence fragments and ridiculous misogyny totally turned me off.

How do you have time to read so much?! Aren’t you in school? Do you count your textbooks in your book count?
I'm new to book tube and to be honest when I see people saying they've read 10 books a month I wonder whether they actually really enjoy them? Or take the time for the stories to sink in? Just seems like over consumption, so don't beat yourself up for "only" reading five - I would take your reviews on them much more seriously! x
Jenny Kiffer it's easy to read 10 books a month, as long as there is time. Two and a half books a week is feasible ;)
I'm not saying that it isn't feasible, i'm just saying that reading books
requires a level of concentration, and like everything, I wonder if you don't lose a bit of something when you binge. Quality over quantity! (but again that's just my opinion)
Jenny Kiffer that changes from person to person, just like everything else ;)
Agreed, I just don't think booktubers should feel guilt about not consuming as much - I've seen a few videos about it and thought I should say something as Emily seems quite nice, that's all.
