    I think my favorite part about your channel is that you talk about books I’ve never heard of, so kudos to you for getting out of the slump and going back to what you gravitate too! (:

    • @BookswithEmilyFox

      It's silly but for whatever reason, I don't read some of the books I'm excited about to keep them for later... as if I'll run out of books to look forward to! Plus seeing everyone excited about certain books makes me want to read them but I have to realize I don't have the same taste as some others :s

      THIS!

    • @GirlKaleidoscopeEyes
      @GirlKaleidoscopeEyes 6 років тому +3

      Same! It’s so refreshing that someone on BookTube reads outside of the YA genre and someone who reads books that aren’t “popular”.

  • @brittanynewbold1378
    @brittanynewbold1378 6 років тому +42

    Emily, you always have the best hauls. I love that you don't always go for the "most popular" books, but instead what you're personally into. I'm curious, how do you search/shop on bookoutlet? I always struggle to figure out the best way to search (aside from searching for a title in particular) because there are so many choices. Love your videos!

    • @BookswithEmilyFox
      @BookswithEmilyFox  6 років тому +13

      Thank you! It can be hard with the pressure on booktube but I want 2018 to really be all about books I'm interested in, not necessarily the hyped ones!
      Bookoutlet - Browse - Fiction - (product type) Bargain Books - (subject) Fantasy, Science-Fiction mostly - Sort by Arrival Desc
      That's pretty much that! I'll search specific books and authors too :)

      Thanks for sharing! I know the whole "pressure of booktube" subject is going around right now, but the way I see it, if everyone read what was interesting to their own tastes and stayed true to themselves then we'd be able to more easily find our true "tribe!" ☺️

  • @AndreaThG
    @AndreaThG 6 років тому +12

    I absolutely love that you're taking a step back from contemporary YA because frankly I'm sick of hearing about the same book over and over again, and that is books I'm not even that interested in! I'm much more into fantasy and sci-fi but there aren't too many booktubers that talks about that genre. I think that is why you are one of my top booktubers to watch!

    • @BookswithEmilyFox
      @BookswithEmilyFox  6 років тому +1

      I do need a break from contemporary YA too! Some are awesome but I've read to many bad ones this year :(

    • @cookies77814

    i'm so excited for you to talk about some of these! Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close is written very interestingly, Ava lavender is interesting as well, particularly the first generations in the book, and the Falling Kingdoms series honestly gets better with each book, i wouldn't go into the first book expecting the most. I know you already plan to but i really recommend continuing the grisha trilogy

    Traitor's blade is hilarious. A little over the top for my taste, but certainly not bad. I am all in for a group of friends being friends and sticking together through perilous adventures. Oh, and a decently good plot twist!
    I also bought the Woman in Cabin 10!!! (Partly for me, mostly for my sister who loves a good thriller/ mind screw). Then I bought Fahrenheit 451, Stalking Jack the Ripper, The Gunslinger, and The Long Way to a Small Angry, Planet. I can't wait to get to all of them!!!

    I also bought the Broken Empire trilogy by Mark Lawrence. I've heard it's pretty dark, but if I like it I want to try the Red Queen's War series too.
    And those Stephen King editions are great. Even though they are mass market paperbacks, they're flexible and floppy. If I buy mass market copies of his books, I want those editions.

      BookswithEmilyFox good call! I’m planning on reading It in January so wish me luck haha! What is your favourite SK book so far?

    I absolutely loved The Queen of the Tearling series, i think it's similar yet so different from the other ya series, since it doesnt have those ya cliches that i've come to hate like love triangles or just the cliche love plot. I also LOVE the falling kingdoms series, BUT i hated the first book, i think i gave it a 2 stars, but i assure u it gets better and better and i love the rest of the books so much

    Just so you know, Em, his name is pronounced, Michael "Cry-ton" for Crichton. ;)

    Timeline by Michael Crichton is really good!!! The movie is good too. I love history and archaeology so it was all up my alley.

      I think I might have seen that... I'll avoid checking it until after I read it though!

      i watched the movie in high school before reading the book in uni and i loved them both, so hopefully you do too!

      I watched the movie years ago and I really liked it, I still haven't read the book and I don't know why! 😆 I was under the impression that M. Crichton's novels were difficult to read (English is not my mother tongue), because of the scientific vocabulary, but now I may give it a try 👍😊

      BookswithEmilyFox thr movie is terrible, esp in comparison to the book. I read the book first and was SO excited for the movie,and it is dire. Such a shame!

      Guess it is better if you watch it first with no expectations!

    Have you read In Cold Blood by Truman Capote? I'm currently reading it now and I'm loving it! So far, I definitely recommend :)

    If you need another Sci-Fi recommendation, I loved the Imperial Radch, by Ann Leckie. The last book Ancillary Mercy is a 5 stars for me. (And I don't give 5 stars too often.)
    I'm also about to pick up the 4th book in the Greatcoats series (Traitor's Blade is the first, Tyrant's Throne is my next read!), and the series is really good.
    A "18 to read in 2018" list might be what I do for goals next year too. For 2017, I set myself some loose goals ("Read 3 series", "Reread 3 books", etc.) and it worked great, but I was looking for something else to do and it might be a great way to go. Can't wait to see what's on your list. (On mine so far: Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia, His Dark Materials and The Cemetery of Forgotten Books)

    I didn't like Ava Lavender at all, but if you want a similar book and concept that I think executed everything so much better you should try Above Us Only Sky by Michele Young-Stone! I also don't tend to like magical realism but it was one of my favorite books of this year! :)

    Challenger Deep was a great one 👍🏻 Though the depression expressed in the book kind of gets on to you if you get too involved 😊

    Yeah I usually stay away from ya books too but I'll read anything by Diana Wynne Jones. Her best know series are probably Howl's Moving Castle and Chrestomanci, she's also got adult books too, all fantasy

      I love the Chrestomanci series! It was one of my favorites as a kid and I found used copies of both volumes a month or so ago. I've never read anything else by the author, but I'll have to look them up at some point.

    Wow Emily. 👍🏻 Good job on the book haul. Also you do own the first book of the “Red queens war” trilogy by Mark Lawrence which is the ‘Prince of fools’. Now you just have to get the second book in that trilogy which is ‘The Liars key’. So yayyyy👏🏻🙌🏻
