I loved the second era Mistborn series way more than I expected! It’s a lot of fun and more fast-paced. It’s also fun to see how these characters hundreds of years later view our favorite characters from the first series.
I usually don't comment in youtube videos, but I'm just too excited that you're going to read Solaris. It's my fav book of all time! To me Lem got a very unique style of writing. A very impressive read! Really hope you enjoy it.
Challenger Deep is confusing to start but as you go you begin to get clarity on what is going on. I read it a few months ago and it's become one of my all time favorites.
Challenger Deep also confused me in the beginning but it's quite amazing how things slowly unravel about halfway through, I think... Hope you end up loving it! 😀
My reading taste is definitely all over the place! 55% Fantasy/sci fi so far... only 25% YA though. That's much lower than last year but like I said in the video... nothing has really been catching my eyes lately :/
Finished the magicians trilogy in the beginning of this year, it gets so much better! And it starts to explore different worlds and what not, it isn't limited to the magic school he attends. At the end of the trilogy he's like... 30 or something so bare with it! It's worth it!
I read The Andromeda Strain in the past and I quite liked it. I don’t read a lot of sci-fi- but, I’m always a big fan of futuristic bio sci-fi when I do. It fit the bill for me.
Andromeda Strain is my favorite Michael Crichton (CRY-TON) book. I really hope you like it. I'm have Children of Blood and Bone in my TBR this month as well. Some reading friends of mine have already finished it and loved it. Love your videos and thanks for sharing. Good luck with your reading this month!
Challenger Deep is a story about a boy with schizophrenia, which might explain why its complicated to understand. I think the author's son was diagnosed with schizophrenia and the book was for him.
BookswithEmilyFox lol! I don’t envy you....I couldn’t handle all the complainers and criticizers. I love both your channels! I think you’re damn near perfect!
Yay Children of Time!!!! I requested this a couple of weeks ago from my library so I hope I get it in time to read along with you. 😁 As far as YAs go I support the recommendations I’ve seen here for Strange the Dreamer. It was one of those books for me where I really got invested in the world ( legitimately had daydreams about it and that doesn’t happen). It almost didn’t feel like YA for me because Laini Tayler’s writing is so beautiful. There is a romance and there was one moment where I cringed, but it’s very sweet and age appropriate for YA.
I just got Children of Blood and Bone from my library as well, I am excited to start reading it. Also I love your channel, I feel like you recommend a lot of different books from other booktubers which I really like!
I just finished the Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle and you were right, it's really hard to put down. The only reason I didn't finish it in one go last night is because I had a meeting at half seven this morning :/ . But it was so good! The plot was so tight. I loved that the journey to solving the mystery was more important than the actual answer which is the main reason was I'm not particularly into mysteries. But yeah, thank you for the rec!
Hello! I wanted to recommend to you a fantastic YA Trilogy called the Generations trilogy by Scott Sigler! Book one- Alive Book two- Alight Book three- Alone These are SciFi novels. I absolutely loved these books! I can’t recommend them enough! Happy reading!
I just bought children of blood and bone! So excited. I also really want to read Renegades. And right now I'm reading Elements of Mind by Walter Hunt. My cousin gave it to me and there really aren't ratings/ reviews but it's actually quite good! I also need to Finish American Gods. Otherwise I'll read what I want to read and I'll see where the month takes me. But apparently it's the month of Extra looooong books.that'll be fun.
I'm currently reading The Magicians, Children of Time, and Children of Blood and Bone. Going to read The 7 deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle next after seeing your recommendation in your last video. I read Challenger Deep last year and loved it. It's really good so I hope you enjoy it.
I enjoyed The Cruel Prince but there are some problematic things that you may not like. You should still give it a chance, though! I'm excited to see what you say about it!
I liked The Magicians because it was what I wanted Harry Potter to be. I was a very intense child and even though I was 13 when HP came out and at a perfect time to read them... My favorite book at the time was The Portrait of Dorian Grey and Dracula so... yeah xD I was an intense kid.
Damn I'm not sure I would have wanted Harry to be this much of a depressed ass but I get it haha I'm trying to find the perfect way of summarizing it and "a muggle born Draco Malfoy who grew up reading Narnia" feels pretty close 😂 I really liked the first 100 pages but I feel like the 4 books were a bit disjointed :/ I'll definitely continue the series though!
I really want you to read outlander lol every month I hope you pick it up cause I want to know your opinion on it! 😂 I love it!! will definitely continue the series! it was a lot of fun to read! also it's a pretty big book...so....👀🤔😊
I need to finish reading “The Phantom of the Opera” by Gaston Leroux. I tried to finish it in March but ran out of time. I’m really liking it and it’s been a while since I read a classic. It’s odd but I have planned out which books I want to read. I tend to be a mood reader but these books are just pulling me to them so I know I will read them and no others.
I was inspired by your idea of reading big books so I started reading for this month Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari. I have to say I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would. Also Michael Crichton is one of my favourite writers, I absolutely love his books and the ideas in the books. I need to pick up the Andromeda Strain, but if you enjoy it, I would highly recommend The Sphere, or Next, or Prey. One of the big books to read this year is one of his called State of Fear and I can't wait to start it.
I watched the first season of the Magician... and it sounds like they've changed the pacing a little bit. If you ever watch it after reading the book I would love a comparison video! I've always wanted to read the series, but now I'm not quite sure (pacing/time is really important for me).
I really enjoyed the wicked deep by shea ernshaw. There isn't a lot of character development, like a b. Sanderson story, but the storyline is really good. The writing is simple and yet really beautiful.
Hi Emily :D I recommend the Daughter of the pirate king duology by Tricia Levenseller, its so good! It's YA and the main character is a badass, I'm halfway through the second book now and its awesome. Some good books in this video!
Bookswith Katie I read the first book yesterday (been a few months since I read a book in a day) and I started the 2nd one yesterday! I lovedddddd the first one so much.
So happy when I hear other people have read and enjoyed these books! I'm about 30 pages from the end of Daughter of the siren queen, I dob't want it to end :(
I started reading Solaris in January and was enjoying it. I ended up putting it down for some reason. Definitely want to read it this month, so I will be joining you there. Buddy read hahaha xx
I felt exactly the same about The Magicians!! I am so glad someone else said it and I’m not the only one. Unfortunately I found The Power not only problematic (some bad rep of Romanians which made me a bit sad) but also annoyingly written. There were way too many perspectives. Can’t wait to see what you think of these books :)
Even if you don't enjoy the magicians book, i'd still say to watch the tv show. It's completely different and it's so amazing i've watched it all the way through three times!
I finished the Children of Blood and Bone a couple of days ago and while I can totally see why it's so hyped, it ended up being a 3.5 read for me, main complaints concerning the characters and a romance. I'm really looking forward to your wrap up!
I heard a sample of Children of Time and everything sounded very technical, I was not sold on it, I'd like to hear your opinion on it though... In fact, you have a very interesting selection for this month, I'm looking forward to your wrap up... I personally loved The Cruel Prince, but I arguably haven't read too many fantasy novels...
Kind of excited you've picked up Alloy of Law. I just read the original Mistborn Trilogy for the first time over the last month or so, and just finished reading Hero of Ages yesterday (*sob*)! Would be interested to hear your thoughts on Alloy of Law. I'm a bit hesitant to dive back in to this world straight away because I feel like the original trilogy was so perfectly complete I'm not sure what to expect.
As a huge Sanderson fan, the Alloy of Law is personally my least favourite out of all the books that I've read of his, but it's still really enjoyable - like you said, it's Brandon Sanderson, so it can't really go wrong ;) bisous de France!
I'd read Solaris couple of years ago and I didn't understand it firstly. It was interesting and intense, but in the end I was needed some time to think about it. It'll be interesting to hear your opinion.
The Good Behavior tv show is really good! Hoping it gets renewed. The show is nothing like the book, the show is loosely based on the first part of the book.
If you're looking for more nonfiction science-y books, I'd recommend Bad Science by Ben Goldacre! I had to read it for a biology course and I loved it! It's about how pharmaceutical companies use "bad science" to sell dummy products and advice for their benefit. It was really interesting to see even myself falling for the quacks these companies use. The author's writing style is often humorous and fairly easy to understand even if it's a complicated topic. 10/10 would recommend!!
I hope you'll enjoy the books!! Literally went straight from here to goodreads, sad you didn't enjoy good behavior (I haven't read it, just disappointing to start the reading month like that...). BTW I really enjoy and appreciate your videos and opinions, glad I discovered this channel & your beauty channel, was surprised by it, cause I found you through booktube!
I think I was extra disappointed because I loved the other books I read from him and the book was 3 short stories and they felt so empty. Like they were just a skeleton of a story that read more like a script but I could see all the twists coming... :(
I'm very curious to know your thoughts about Children of Blood and Bone, since I don't enjoy reading it as much as every one else. I think The Power is kind of nonsense because this book opens the problem without proposing a solution - it just drags on endlessly. I never really plan a monthly TBR, so right now I start reading The Grip of It by Jac Jemc, and my next books will depend on my mood.
I read Children of Time last month and wow, I was not expect that alien life, but it was soooo good! I hope you like it :) And Six Wakes seem really interesting, I'm curious to know what you think of it!
I didn't think I was going to be so excited, but I just started 'East of Eden' yesterday as part of a group read-a-long, and I think it's probably going to be my favorite book I read this month. I'm 30% of the way through it and I'm in love with it. I'm trying to pace myself, but it's not easy to do. Also, with Michael Crichton's name, just pretend the 'ch' isn't even there; the first syllable is pronounced like 'cry'. I bought 'The Andromeda Strain' a few months back, partially because I was interested in reading more from the author, and partially because I remember watching the movie in school either my sophomore or junior year. I haven't actually gotten around to reading it though. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it, if you get to it!
Funny thing is that's what happened in my brain. I said it the first time and then I was like "wait I think you're supposed to pronounce it "cry" but then second guessed myself lol I tried reading East of Eden but got discouraged after a few pages... I need to try it again!
The first chapter is literally just a detailed description of the valley, so I can see how that could be off-putting. The character introductions start in the second chapter, and the characters are the most fascinating part of the book, I think, at least so far. I love all of them, even the twisted ones, and I can't wait to see where the story takes them.
The Magicians t.v. show is much better paced than the books, so definitely watch it soon it's one of my favourite shows right now and don't worry, the characters stop being awful eventually! ^-^
I wanna read The Andromeda Strain this month as well. I'm currently reading Children of Blood and Bone and I read Cruel Prince last month. I think im going to pick up Children of Time as well.
The only “recent” YA I’ve really loved is This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab. The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee is pretty decent if you’re in the mood for a fun, not too serious gossip girl like book.
You should watch The Magicians the show!! I haven't read the book but everyone said the show is better than the books. Also the magic school is treated like grad school in the show so I'm guessing thats why it's not as long as high school
Ohhh I have feelings about Mistborn Era 2 that i'm gonna share with you! So i read Alloy of Law when it first came out, pretty soon after finishing Era 1, and it was very underwhelming. At the time it was supposed to be stand-alone and after the epic scale of Era 1, it was meh. But i just recently read the three current books of Era 2 and they are AMAZING. Book 4 is expected out May 2019, so not too much of a wait.... Speaking of waiting, have you read Oathbringer yet?
Have you ever thought about reading Nevernight by Jay Kristoff? I’m reading it right now and I think it would be really interesting to see what you think about it!
Hi Emily! I am actually a quiet viewer of yours and also huge fan btw! And your channel got me into reading again. Actually you‘re one of my favourite youtubes for suuure hahah! I love your personality and energy and all! Just finished the book „three daughters of eve by elif shafak“ and I thought to myself „this could be a book for emily“. I‘d love for you to maybe have a look at it, i really recommend it. Wishing you all the best in any way possible and looking forward to your next videos! Sending you loads of love from Switzerland❤️😊
I'm so glad you're enjoying "The Magicians"! People comparing "The Magicians" to "Harry Potter" are really doing the series a disservice. The school part is just the setup-I loved that the majority of the series had nothing to do with the school, and to me the story REALLY took off once they graduated and had to deal with adjusting to being adults. I don't really agree that the characters are a-holes though-I think they're very realistic people in their 20s, nobody is perfect at that age, and they are people with special abilities, so of course they're going to do some stupid stuff and feel like they're invincible ))) "Solaris" is AMAZING!
I'm not sure if you realized it yet but Children of Blood and Bone can count towards your goal of reading big books. It's 525 pages! It's on the top of my tbr too, by the way. I really look forward to your reviews of that and The Cruel Prince. 😊
I haven't read the book by Mur Lafferty that's on your TBR this month, but I did read her Shambling Guide series and I love it! It's urban fantasy? Or something? And it's pretty interesting and fun!
I just finished Obsidio and could I have done without the YA romance? Yes. But I still love the format and some of the other deeper elements in the story. This month I really want to read Dark Matter, Waking Gods and maybe Children of Time too! :)
I think you and I have similar taste based on the reviews you had done on books that I had read too. Why don’t you ever read Haruki Murakami’s books? Do think you will enjoy them..
You have to read Leviathan Wakes. It's awesome. You'll love it. Also, I really love your videos, I am always looking forward to them. P.S: I am from Brazil!!
BookswithEmilyFox forgive me for butting in, but just wanted to say that the books in the Expanse series leave only a little bit unresolved. Enough open-ended plotlines to keep you going, but each book still has a satisfying ending. At least the first 4 I read.
Enjoy Alloy of Law, Emily! Definitely different from the original trilogy but still super fun. Also, it's Brandon Sanderson, that's all the reason you need really :D
Please please please put Children of Blood and Bone on the top of your TBR list. I was in a bad reading slump and this book cured it! I'm 200 pages in and I'm devouring it. It's so good for a debut novel. Tomi is only 24!
Can i just say that i find it very refreshing to see another person struggling with english pronunciations on some days? Great video and good luck with your tbr :)
Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton (pronounced CRY-TON but I liked your French twist 😊) is great. That, Jurassic Park and Timeline are his best works IMO.
It was funny when you said you were reading A Brief History of Time and at the end of your comments on that book you said, "it's about time." Yes, literally it is! Lol! ;)
I'm currently in the middle of The Alloy of Law, because I was really missing Sanderson's books. I don't know why they call it a western. Just because they have guns now, doesn't make them cowboys. Its not a western at all, it's the same world, but with new technology, that's it. It reads just as easy as his other books and I'm happy to see older characters being featured in this book (by older I mean 25+).
I'm really glad you said that because I'm not huge on western and I was kinda worried about it! Glad it's just the addition of guns and not really a western 😂
What book are you excited to read this month?
Mistborn and CoBAB as well!
Death by Black Hole by Neil deGrasse Tyson. Definitely into the science based non-fiction this month
I’m going to read An Ember in the Ashes this month, and I’ve heard such good things about it. I’m super excited.
have some Arabic books wanna read ;)
BookswithEmilyFox a tale of two cities 🤗 just started this morning
Just realized there are some issues with the editing... sorry 😂
still loved the video!!
All the bits are there... just not in the right order haha
:P Also I really really enjoyed Children of blood and bone and i hope you do too!!
It happens. Doesn't take away from the video. Always love your videos!
I find you pronouncing things in the French way when you're unsure really cute!
It's a win-win situation for everyone... I get to stop struggling to pronounce something and everyone gets to hear the french accent lol
I love that you are including so many genres and not only YA!
My reading taste is definitely all over the place! 55% Fantasy/sci fi so far... only 25% YA though. That's much lower than last year but like I said in the video... nothing has really been catching my eyes lately :/
Children of Blood and Bone is already a favorite book of the year. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I read Andromeda Strain for summer reading in high school and it's maybe the only assigned book I loved. I stayed up all night reading it.
Finished the magicians trilogy in the beginning of this year, it gets so much better! And it starts to explore different worlds and what not, it isn't limited to the magic school he attends. At the end of the trilogy he's like... 30 or something so bare with it! It's worth it!

Michael Crichton is amazing!! I really liked the Andromeda Strain.. great list 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I can’t wait to see what you think of The Children of Time...it’s definitely on my TBR as well!!
I hope you like the Cruel Prince, I loved reading it so much!
Stalking Jack the Ripper was really good! The main character is quite modern for her time and it's a historical fiction.
Who cares you’re wearing the same shirt?? You did the videos on the same day!
I know it sounds silly but I get comments about everything including people telling i don’t apply mascara correctly lol
Shit gets intense sometimes 😂
BookswithEmilyFox lol! I don’t envy you....I couldn’t handle all the complainers and criticizers. I love both your channels! I think you’re damn near perfect!
Aw thank you! It's usually mostly funny but some days it gets to you a bit 😂
Yay Children of Time!!!! I requested this a couple of weeks ago from my library so I hope I get it in time to read along with you. 😁

It almost didn’t feel like YA for me because Laini Tayler’s writing is so beautiful. There is a romance and there was one moment where I cringed, but it’s very sweet and age appropriate for YA.
I was the type of reading that mostly enjoyed YA, but girl.. you got me addicted to Blake Crouch and thrillers! Thank yooou for that!!
Happy for you!! Skip Good behavior though... it wasn't great but apparently the tv show is!
I just got Children of Blood and Bone from my library as well, I am excited to start reading it. Also I love your channel, I feel like you recommend a lot of different books from other booktubers which I really like!
I read Children of Blood and Bone last month and it was fantastic! Definitely push it up on the list!
I just finished the Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle and you were right, it's really hard to put down. I finished Children of Blood and Bone 2 days ago, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED
Ps so happy you're finally picking up Six Wakes
I read Children of blood and bone right now. It's my "bed book" that I read before I go to sleep :)
its the first time i saw a polish book in a non-polish booktube channel im so emotional and proud omg
I just finished Children of Blood and Bone last night. It was so so good!
Hello! I wanted to recommend to you a fantastic YA Trilogy called the Generations trilogy by Scott Sigler!
Book one- Alive
Book two- Alight
Book three- Alone
These are SciFi novels. I absolutely loved these books! I can’t recommend them enough! Happy reading!

Read the Alloy of Law! I liked the Mistborn Trilogy, but I don't know if the second trilogy wasn't even better. I think you'll love it. :D
Are you planning to read any of the Canada Reads nominated books? I just picked up the Marrow Thieves and American War.

Excited to hear your thoughts on Children of Blood and Bone

I really want you to read outlander lol every month I hope you pick it up cause I want to know your opinion on it! 😂 I love it!! will definitely continue the series! it was a lot of fun to read! also it's a pretty big book...so....👀🤔😊

I loved Children of Blood and Bone. It’s definitely not perfect, some things will probably annoy you. But overall, it was great.

Tyler Johnson Was Here by Jay Coles is seriously so good!
I said it the first time and then I was like "wait I think you're supposed to pronounce it "cry" but then second guessed myself lol
I tried reading East of Eden but got discouraged after a few pages...
I love east of eden. I hope you enjoy it!
The Andromeda Strain isn't bad, however Crichton matured so much as a writer after that, I was expecting more. The Lost World is a masterpiece :)
The Magicians t.v. show is much better paced than the books, so definitely watch it soon it's one of my favourite shows right now and don't worry, the characters stop being awful eventually! ^-^
I'm really in the mood for some fantasy, but also very busy with school
I wanna read The Andromeda Strain this month as well. I'm currently reading Children of Blood and Bone and I read Cruel Prince last month. I think im going to pick up Children of Time as well.
The only “recent” YA I’ve really loved is This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab. The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee is pretty decent if you’re in the mood for a fun, not too serious gossip girl like book.
Both are on my shelves... I'll definitely give them both a shot!
Loved This Savage Song!
Any book by Victoria Schwab is worthy to read
Children of Blood and Bone is fantastic.
Its not super recent but Strange the Dreamer is an amazing YA fantasy if you havent read it!! ☺️
"Michael Crichton" 😂😂 Im also French and snorted so loud because thats also what I would do hahahaha
I'm on the waiting list at my library... I might be able to read it in 2020...
Some days words are so hard 😂
Yeah, its super popular, but deserving of all the hype!! Good luck with everything 😂♥️
The Belles was amazing and a little underrated in the Booktube community❤❤Also Far From the Tree by Robin Benway,it's an amazing contemporary
I need to read Children of Blood and Bone too! I hope you love everything you read this month!!
That's true!! I really hope I'll like them!
Hi, I just wanted to say that a couple of days ago I finished Pines by Blake Crouch after you recommended it so much and I really enjoyed it!
Yay!! Happy you liked it too :)
It's one of the "big books" I might read this year. I'm just always a bit hesitant to start uncompleted series :/
BookswithEmilyFox forgive me for butting in, but just wanted to say that the books in the Expanse series leave only a little bit unresolved. Enough open-ended plotlines to keep you going, but each book still has a satisfying ending. At least the first 4 I read.
That's good to know thanks!
Enjoy Alloy of Law, Emily! Definitely different from the original trilogy but still super fun. Also, it's Brandon Sanderson, that's all the reason you need really :D
Exactly!
I'm also reading The Andromeda Strain this month! Its also my first Michael Crichton book. :]
Adi Elango im reading The Andromeda Strain this month as well
Please please please put Children of Blood and Bone on the top of your TBR list. I was in a bad reading slump and this book cured it! I'm 200 pages in and I'm devouring it. It's so good for a debut novel. Tomi is only 24!
It's definitely high on my pile!
I'm currently reading Children Of Time, and I really don't know how to feel about it!!!
If you like mystery sci-fi have you tried The Expanse series by James Corey? I've listened first two audiobooks and loved it!
Started reading pines by Blake crouch cause of your recommendation p good so far
Either the second book of the Mistborne Series or the third book of The Gentlemen Bastard Series. Also currently reading some Morgan Rice books.
A good YA book is Frozen Charlotte by Alex Bell, it's also a thriller so I think you'll like it!
New favorite YA: truly devious by Maureen Johnson it's a murder mystery in an academy setting 😀
It was funny when you said you were reading A Brief History of Time and at the end of your comments on that book you said, "it's about time." Yes, literally it is! Lol! ;)
Yes haha I realized it when I was editing and was wondering if anyone would notice!!
I read children of blood and bone and it’s really good
I really like Solaris. Stanislaw Lem is one of my favorite author. :)
