Very Very nice job as always!! That’s why I watch. Just so you know sir I’m not a DIY guy. I’ve been in the trade for over 20yrs. The test you mentioned on the pressure switch port was not from a diy guy. I agree we need to make the trades great again why I shared and you share!

Hey Mike...I find your videos interesting, I have had 40 + years in this business...I would love to see u guys do a steam boiler , old school, with blk nipples, tees, 90,s and unions like we did back in the day....big difference when your swinging a 3 foot pipe wrench...lol
search for our steam installs pre Mega-Press. I have dozens of them. Guess what, we still did them in record time.

I think you have to use schedule 80 fittings not 40 for steam.

Is it steam hydronic warm air. I've seen all of these units over 100 years old and still working. But I can say this units from 80's won't last 100 years.

I don't know about New York, but in California it is illegal and can come with criminal charges. I have never heard of anyone getting arrested for it but I have heard of several plumbers lose their license for doing it. And of course in California, plenty of people have been sued for doing it... mostly landlords from what I understand.
Why is it illegal…it makes no sense to me…if it still has all the safety devices I don’t see what’s wrong with it
@@tjlovesrachel It is a hugenliability issue if carbon monoxide escapes the repair and someone dies or gets sick because of it.
Either way, any repair to a firebox is illegal and anyone that does it can lose their licence and or be sued.
I see welded fireboxes in slum housing and the owner of the property is criminally liable for it. As a technician, you are required to condemn the appliance and may not make ANY repairs.

Cast iron and malleable
Yeas
Black malleable fittings, are allowed on low pressure steams, in many jurisdictions. Including NYC. Only real benefit of cast iron, is they can be cracked and removed. Not much of an issue these days, with sawzalls and grinders and band saws.
CI is never allowed on gas
I did say they would work, I just said its not correct. Have you read any of Dan's books or attended his class? Anyway: Cast iron threaded fittings are generally used in steam heating and sprinkler applications. They are highly durable and practically indestructible. They also expand at different rates. The cast is less likely to leak on steam, and is
removable when it does leak. On hot water, maleable is fine
@@PipeDoctorI have attended Dan's and studied (not read) his books. To the best of my knowledge, the only place where Mr. Holohan discusses the difference between CI and MI fittings, is on page 118 of "We got steam heat". Mr Holohan clearly articulates that the only benefit of CI fittings, is the ease of removal. CI fittings can be cracked with a hammer. MI fittings can not be cracked with a hammer. That reason is long obsolete. MI can easily be removed, using the proper sawzall with the proper blade. Ditto to band saw or grinder. Make a cut or two in the fitting, hammer and cold chisel and bye bye fitting. There is zero functional or durability difference between CI fittings and MI fittings on low pressure steam.

Why on earth are you using a dolly when you have a powermate stairlift?! I have the same one and the aluminum lighter duty as well. I can move that boiler by myself. You used it going up the stairs why not going down?! No one should be below the load if you were certified by powermate, and the instructions are on the side of the lift. Your installations are almost always perfect to the directions, but you're moving the boiler could be better and considerably safer following powermates instructions. Two people on the top of the lift is appropriate for the really heavy loads.
